Chapter 43
*Maheshwari Pov*
"Mom! Dad!" Di said, looking at both of them and I too stared at them feeling worried.
"What did we do?" Mom asked us and I wanted to tell her that it is not what they had done but how they are behaving.
"We both are divorcees here and you are acting as if we are going to a date for the first time in our lives." Di stated.
"It is mine!" I whispered which she tactfully ignored, but stiffened hearing that.
"With Dad giving away rules and regulations while you are giving away your worry. We both will be fine." Saying that she held my hand and dragged me out of the house.
"You never went on a date?" she asked the moment she started driving.
"No!" I replied and waited for her to laugh.
"I don't believe you! I saw how crazy Nakul was for you and you guys must have gone somewhere for sure." She said and I turned to stare at her.
"With James coming with us every time?" I asked and she stiffened hearing his name but cleared her throat before giving a nod of understanding.
"So, all our dates were at home only. We never went out somewhere specifically for date." I added and we both fell into silence.
Did he leave for her home already? I thought, looking out at the passing vehicles repeating the question that started from the moment I started getting ready.
After how many days, was he ready to move on? And why am I not able to believe him to do anything as such. If it was told by someone or anyone, I would have brushed it off, but now hearing her voice and words, I am unable to at least I am trying not to brush off.
If I leave the matter, then what else can I think about with him not having a normal conversation with me during these weeks of time.
"Here we are! Don't show much emotion with the date, okay? I already told them we are divorcees and they don't expect us to be completely in flow with this." Di advised and I glanced at her to see that her knuckles turned white holding the steering wheel tightly.
"Were you thinking about what to talk to them and what to look in them to continue this dating when you were getting ready?" I asked and she gave me a confused look.
"No!" she finally replied, matching my answer.
"What were you thinking then?" I asked and she shook her head.
"Something which I shouldn't be thinking of." She replied and I smiled before removing my seat belt while her hands shook while removing hers.
I stopped her from getting out of the car and turned to sit with my back to the door. She gave me another confused look, but didn't move to get out.
"I feel like we are cheating going on these dates." I stated and she chuckled.
"We are divorced!" she mumbled with a bitter tone and I nodded.
"Are we in our heart?" I asked and after a few minutes she shook her head.
"Then isn't it cheating, loving someone in the heart and then going out with someone else? Will it not be cheating ourselves and also a wonderful feeling?" I continued with my words and she leaned back closing her eyes.
"When did you become elder to me?" she mumbled and I gave her a small smile when she opened her eyes.
"Fine! But don't forget that James already stated his plans of involving with a girl soon after the divorce and Nakul is already involved. So, think again before deciding against this." She said and I nodded.
"Let them do what they wish to and we will do what we actually wish to." I said smiling and she sighed.
"Yeah! Just because they are killing someone, doesn't mean we have to do the same." She said nodding and I gave her a look.
"Just because they are jumping in a well, doesn't mean we have to do the same." I corrected and made it less violent even though it is still violent.
"We will go back home?" she asked, starting the car and I turned to put the seat belt.
"No! Let's both of us go on a date and enjoy it. After all, we got properly ready for an outing." I replied, making her give me a surprised glance.
She called someone and let him know that we are not going to be there for this. She even apologized, maybe not in direct words, but gave the impression before hanging up.
"Where shall we go?" she asked driving out of the restaurant parking.
"Anyplace, where we can have our peace and no one to mind what we are doing or talking or anything. In simple words, they have to ignore us." I replied and she nodded like she knows the place and drive off but there was a smirk on her face which I ignored thinking nothing of it.
"This?" I asked, staring around me with wide eyes.
"Yeah!" she replied from beside me.
"This?" I repeated and felt myself being pushed forward.
I turned to see the guy who pushed me already walking away with some people and I can see he is drunk. I turned back to stare at Di only to see her triumph look.
"See? Everyone practically, ignore our presence like they didn't know you were even standing here. We are not some beauties to attract any attention towards us also." She said shrugging.
"You are not?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.
"We are not!" she stated and I chuckled before walking towards a couch corner to it which is not occupied by a single person.
"What do you want to have?" she asked looking at me.
"You are the one who brought me here today." I replied shrugging and she frowned.
"Want to have hard drink?" she suddenly asked and I frowned at her.
I never had one even though at house parties, Mom has a little and even Di but I never had thinking I will do something stupid if I do.
"Okay! I will apologize now only if I do something stupid." I said nodding.
"You are not going to get drunk, Maha. It will just be a single glass." Saying that she ordered for both of us.
I stared at the liquid and took a sip, waiting for some bad taste, but it was tasting good than I expected too, which she explained it is not direct alcohol so I can calm down.
And I did by having one more and then another and then lost count along with ignoring Di's protest. Finally, I leaned back and glanced at the dance floor only to grin.
"Is... is it Nakul?" I asked and blinked my eyes.
"He is not!" she replied, but I shook my head before moving to stand up holding the table.
"Maha!" she called, but I took a step towards the dancing happening before us.
"I will be with Nakul." I mumbled over to my shoulder and grinned walking towards Nakul.
"You are not going to do anything like that." I heard the words and I was immediately dragged somewhere making me feel the dizziness.
"We are leaving, Maha. Mom will kill me seeing your state for sure." Di complained and put me in the car.
"I want to meet Nakul." I complained and she started the car before I can step out.
"He is not Nakul." She commented, but I shook my head.
"I want to meet him now." I demanded and she groaned.
"God! Did I do those many crimes that I am being tortured like this?" she asked and I giggled before pulling her cheek.
"Please! I want to meet Nakul, Di. I want to tell him I finally tasted the alcohol and he can do it too. He never tasted it you know." I replied and there was a pause while I yawned.
"I want Nakul!" I suddenly screamed.
"Err... she is talking about our puppy." I heard her voice and turned to see her looking at the window where the people from another car looking at us with confused expressions.
"Is the puppy dead?" someone asked and I glanced straightly to see the red signal.
"He is not dead and he is not a puppy." I said in a sulking tone.
"Not dead, but he ran away from home and she is sad." Di explained.
"He didn't run away. He just threw me out of the house." I said and suddenly wailed feeling to let out the tears.
"Poor girl! Give her a new puppy." I heard someone else saying it.
"I tried today but she felt it was cheating." Di said and I giggled when I repeated the words from that car and from Di together.
"Why are you laughing now? I was scared that you will cry right now completely." Di questioned after starting the car.
"I really want to see Nakul, Di." I said, holding the car door lock and unlocked it before moving my hand to open it.
"Stop! I will take you to him. I thought so many things, but not blackmail in your personality." She commented.
"I was just... just trying to not give you much work to take me near him. I could have gone by myself." I mumbled.
"Right!" she whispered and there was complete silence while I smiled thinking about Nakul.
"Maam?" I heard the voice and glanced to my side to see the security man staring at me with a frown.
And Di was fighting with another member from the voice. I waved at the security man and got out from the car before walking straight only to stop.
"Couldn't he have stayed at the house? You know that it is difficult to enter a office that too after closing of it." Di mumbled and I just stared at the door.
"Look, she wants to surprise him. Are you going to spoil it?" Di asked and immediately we were allowed.
"Looks like no one knows that you are divorced." She commented when we both got into the elevator.
"We both know and that is more than enough." I mumbled and pressed the floor where our office is there.
"He lives on this floor?" she asked and I shook my head.
"No! But our memories do." Whispering that I walked out of the elevator and moved towards my cabin.
I opened my purse, but with my hands shaking I couldn't find the key. She immediately took it from me and searched for it before finding it.
"Maha! We can still leave." She said, unlocking the door.
I walked into the cabin and touched the curtains. I leaned on them and closed my eyes before opening them to see her staring at me.
"Until last time, every time I opened these, it used to be a joy for me." I whispered and she closed her eyes.
I moved towards the door and turned the knob only to feel it open. I frowned, thinking that is not what I expected, but entered the cabin.
"Maha! It will be taken into wrong meaning if we enter his cabin." She warned, but I had already walked into it completely with her following me.
"It is so dark." I complained.
"We can switch on the lights, but I don't know where they could be." She mumbled and I placed my hand on the wall before walking along with it remembering the switch board.
However, I screamed when I switched the light as I saw him standing right before me. I gulped and stared at him with wide eyes while he stared back.
"Am I imagining?" I asked in a whisper before glancing at Di and seeing her expression I can see I am not.
"We are not here to steal anything." I said, making him frown.
"Maha! That sure will start something which we haven't even thought of." Di said and I realized he must have got his thoughts confirmed by my words.
"Sorry!" saying that I moved away, but it was too fast that I slipped.
However, I was pulled into an embrace and I latched to him with all my remaining strength. It finally felt like something is alive inside.
"Look, we are really not here to do anything wrong. She had a drink or shall I say too many and wished to see you. We will leave right now." I heard Di and the pressure of his hands holding me increased.
"I don't want to go." I whispered, snuggling in his hold.
"Maha!" Di warned.
"She will not go with you." Nakul finally talked and I grinned holding him tightly.
"Are you mad? Do you think I will let you hurt her more?" Di asked and I frowned.
"I will take care of her. Trust me!" I heard his voice and I smiled, ignoring all other words passed between them.
"If I see a single tear in her eyes when I see her tomorrow, you are dead." I heard them and then it was complete silence.
"Are you okay?" he whispered and I nodded, moving to be comfortable, but he moved back, releasing me and that made me release him.
However, the next moment he lifted me in his arms and was walking out through my cabin. I laid my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes.
"I thought you would be with her today." I whispered and felt the movement stop, but then it continued after a few seconds.
"Who?" he asked and I replied with her name.
"Is she your girlfriend?" I asked and he replied negatively.
"Then lover?" I asked, feeling sick in my stomach.
"No! I can't even call her a friend, but I can say acquaintance." He replied and I felt something soft over me.
I opened my eyes to see that I am lying on a bed and was covered with a blanket. I frowned, thinking he will leave, but in the next moment he slid down beside me before pulling me in his arms.
"How was the date?" he asked when I was moving to be comfortable in his hold.
"It felt like cheating because of which we didn't go." I replied closing my eyes.
"I should have at least seen the guy? Why didn't I?" I asked myself, but the reaction was his hold tightening.
"Because you are my wife and it would have been cheating." He replied making me frown.
"I am a divorcee and I can date anyone I want to." I mumbled but moved closer to hold him.
"You are still my wife, Maheshwari." I dozed off giving him a sound and felt the peace like I wished to Di in the evening.
*Swathi Pov*
Did I do the right thing leaving her like that near him? But they both were clinging to each other and it felt like I need to use some heavy machinery to separate them.
And they looked so perfect together. This thought in my head makes it a fact that they indeed are. Maybe then can get married again if they solve everything this night.
Oh god! Mom and Dad are going to kill me when they realize I just left my drunken sister near her ex-husband. I still remember the reaction he gave yesterday when I informed him about the date Maha is going to.
While my ex-husband just stared at me like really just stared and what do I even expect him to do. He is not mine anymore to even demand something.
I parked the car at my garage and sat there for a few minutes before glancing at the watch to see it is past midnight. I shook my head and got out of the car feeling tired while thinking how to escape my funeral.
I started humming a song deciding whether to skip the drunken part for tonight and tell them tomorrow about everything. However, all my thoughts left when I was suddenly pulled into the space between the house and the garage before being pressed to the wall.
Before I can punch the person or scream, I heard a voice asking, "Where were you?"
"James?" I asked frowning and adjusted to the darkness finally seeing him properly.
"Who else?" he asked and pressed himself to me making it impossible for me to move.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him, finally coming out of my shock.
"Where were you until now, Swathi?" he asked his own question.
"Why should I tell you? You are not my husband if you remember." I pointed out and he stiffened.
"Yes! I remember very well how you didn't want me as a husband." He mumbled and I frowned, but before I can say anything he moved his hands from my shoulder to hold my face.
"Do you know how hard it was to find out where you were going on a date and finally reaching the place not knowing the time but prayed it is not too late. And then only to find out you were not there and not even the people you both were meeting to go on a date. Do you know how many thoughts entered my head? What if you all changed the plate? And what if it was cozy one? And hell, what if you liked him?" he screamed and I trembled not with fear, but with the intensity he is talking.
"James!" I whispered to tell him that there was no date.
"Then, I came here to your house so that I can meet and talk to you even though you went to meet some guy. I thought, it is the first one and you would return soon, but now it is so late. I felt I was walking on some hot coals while waiting for you, Swathi. What did you do to me? Whatever it is, remove it." He said, ignoring me and then pressed his head to my shoulder with all the strength leaving him.
"You said you will go and be with some woman after the divorce." I whispered the first words that came into my head.
"I said too many stupid things and you didn't believe them all." He whispered back and I moved my hands to hold him but very lightly.
"Maha didn't want to go along with it. So, we went to a disco and she got drunk. She wanted to meet Nakul and I left her there against my judgement." I explained and immediately wished I didn't.
What are we both trying to do? I thought, but didn't remove my arms. However, he moved back to stare at me.
"Is she had wanted to then you would have gone along with it?" he asked, frowning and I nodded because I would have and liking it or not would have been secondary for me.
"You shouldn't! You shouldn't go." He repeated and I frowned, but before I can bash him, he dropped his head to press his lips to mine and kissed me.
"James! No!" I whispered over his lips.
"Is it really no?" he asked pesturing the kisses to the corner of my lips and started trailing them, but I held his head before moving to press my lips to his.
"The last time." I whispered and he tugged me.
"Yeah! For now it will be." He whispered back and there were no words exchanged anymore with both of lost to it.
However, when he left after some time, I stood there thinking how could I had let all this happened. This is so not good for both of us.
Another shock was both Mom and Dad already asleep when I entered the house and no questions even in the morning. It's as if Maha is at a place where they expect to or it could be they got to know. But why are they not minding it?
"Hello?" I heard Nakul's voice when I called Maha while leaving the house.
"I am coming there to get her." I said and heard a sigh.
"Don't! It will be a waste of the journey for you. I will bring her to her parents myself." He mumbled.
"No need for that. I already started." I explained.
"No! She is still sleeping." He explained back.
"Fine! Just... just take care of her." I said, frowning at my decision again.
"How could I not?" that was his reply before he hung up and I wish I can kill him to show that what he is doing is nothing but stupidity.
You either want to be with someone or you don't want to be. And if you want to be then do everything to get it fulfilled. Like you are doing? Came a mocking voice in my head.
Seems like the shocks will never end because when I left for work and sat in my office room, my assistant brought the mails important to be checked.
I opened one letter seeing the Nakul's company address and then raised my eyebrow's reading the contents. He wants to hire my boutique to get a dozen suits stitched and wants my personal interference.
Is it his way to make me help him with Maha? But then ire ad the contents again to realize that he said it is for his employee.
Is he mad? Does he think I don't know who is this particular employee and why would an employer would do such thing for an employee?
I could just say no, right? But why am I still holding the letter and playing with it. As per my assistant we got it yesterday evening just before she was closing the shop.
What should I do then? I thought and narrowed my eyes finally deciding to go along with it and find out what they want to accomplish with this. And hey, I will get my profit too by designing those dozen suits and I can do anything I wish over the design.
Suddenly all this feels too nice to pass the chance. I smirked and decided to make an appointment on Monday knowing well today and tomorrow are holidays for his company.
