Chapter 29
*James Pov*
I groaned hearing my phone ringing and opened my eyes to see the room is dark. Did I sleep for too long? I thought moving a little and sat up.
Looking at the person sitting on the chair beside the chair made me fist my hand. I can't believe I got fooled in this level.
Actually, it was my mistake to change the plans. Now, there will be no changes at all. Within four months, it will be a goodbye.
She slowly blinked her eyes when my phone started ringing again. I looked away, taking the mobile and lifted it with my good hand.
"What is it?" I asked when one of the team member's voice reached me.
"Mr. Singh is here." He replied and I sighed in relief.
"He is awake?" I asked and can see a slight moment beside me but I ignored it completely.
"The senior Mr. Singh is here." His reply make me sit straight in silence.
"Who informed him?" I asked him in a hard tone.
"We didn't do it, Sir. He has been in Mr. Singh's room for the past five minutes." He replied and I got down from the bed immediately but hissed feeling the right hand moving slightly.
"You stupid! Be careful with that." I immediately got the scoldings but ignored her.
"I will be there." Saying that I hung up and started walking towards the door, but felt my left hand held by her.
"You are not going anywhere." She demanded, making me turn around.
"I am going and you are in no position to demand anything of me." I said to which she closed her eyes.
"James! I was talking about past to my Dad. And..." I shook my head, stopping her from saying anything before turning away.
I just walked off and reached the place where Nakul is being kept like the doctor said. I nodded to my men and reached the door near where they are standing.
"Any shouts?" I asked them and they nodded, making me close my eyes.
"Why are you scared?" I heard her voice, but just walked into the room and she followed as usual.
Why is she behind me now? I thought, shaking my head, but all thoughts left looking at the scene before me.
There Maha and Nakul are kind of lost in each other with her leaning over him while Nakul's Grandpa is looking at the window with folded arms and irritated expression.
"Thank god you are here." He said realizing more presence in the room.
"You could have walked out of the room to not feel embarrassed." Swathi pointed out standing beside me.
"Now, what do you think of yourself, James? I want a reason for him to be here. Why did I tell you?" he asked, ignoring her and I sighed.
"To take care of him with my everything." I replied and he nodded.
"Then what is he doing here? Why didn't you do anything?" he shouted and before I can open my mouth, I was pushed back and Swathi stood before me.
"Excuse me! He didn't do anything? Feel blessed that this man was there for Nakul and protected his head otherwise the scene would have been something else." Swathi shouted and I placed my left hand on her shoulder wishing she would stop right now.
"And who are you to even say anything to James?" she asked ignoring me.
"I am the person who hired James's security company for my grandson." He replied and I glanced at Nakul to see still lost with Maha.
"Nakul! Maha!" I shouted their names and they finally came out of their thoughts with Maha clearing her throat while Nakul had this grin but he is still looking pale.
"So? You can't shout at James." Swathi said, recovering from the shock hearing his words.
"He is shouting at James?" Maha asked, walking near her sister and stood beside her.
"Why are you scolding both of them? Don't you have any other work than scolding these? Don't you have minimum sense that they both are hurt? Who are you anyway to scold them? We both will not allow it." Maha said, holding her sister's hand and I looked away, feeling a smile breaking out of my face.
"Who are you both?" he asked and Maha opened her mouth, but Swathi shook her head.
"He is Nakul's granddad." Swathi said and I laughed seeing Maha's expression, but glanced at Nakul, who is trying to control his laugh wincing in pain.
"Water!" Nakul whispered and forgetting everything she walked away to do as he wished for.
"His wife?" Mr. Bhuvan asked and I nodded at him, to which he glanced at them seeing the way Maha is trying to make him drink the water.
"Didn't we say one person in this room?" we heard a new voice and turned to see a nurse.
"He woke up!" Maha explained and she glanced at Nakul before walking near to him and checked a few things before standing near to us.
"Leave!" she said, looking at us.
"Leave us alone." Mr. Bhuvan said and she frowned at him but then left after Swathi nodded at her.
"Today seems to be her bad luck. You scolded her in the morning and now this person." Swathi said, shaking her head and glanced at Maha who walked near us slowly.
"You were... you were shouting and I was just..." she didn't finish it, but sighed before glancing at her sister.
"What is your name?" he asked with a hard expression.
"Maheshwari!" she replied and glanced at her sister immediately, but Swathi didn't say anything except staring at him.
"You are not Sathish's daughter, right?" he asked and she nodded after which he closed his eyes.
"How is your mother?" he asked, opening his eyes and she nodded before he glanced at Nakul.
"Didn't want to invite me to the wedding?" he asked glancing at Nakul.
"No time!" Nakul replied and glanced at me, to which I smiled.
"Even James didn't invite you." When he said that my smile slipped and glare settled to which he smiled more.
"What? Why did all this happen? Your Grandma was behind you for marriage for the past two years and you got married without any persuasion and that too so soon?" he asked looking at me.
"It is a long story." I said shrugging.
"I have time." He said checking his watch before giving me a pointed glance.
"And Nakul needs to take a rest." Maha said making both of us glance at her while Swathi smiled at her.
"You just keep on calling me that and I will not need any rest." Nakul commented making her blush but she shook her head.
"Sit down!" she mumbled gesturing the couch and we both sat down while Swathi walked away to lean on the wall with Maha beside her.
I calmly explained to him everything from the start with Swathi's plan and Maha's intervention. Then the plan of Maha and me before ending it up with the marriage.
"I shouldn't have given you this job based on your Grandmom. How can you all be this stupid? I mean, brides exchange because of a cloth?" he asked, shaking his head in disappointment.
"I got what I want and knew who am I getting married to." Nakul replied making Mr. Bhuvan glance at him.
"So, you wanted Maheshwari from the beginning?" to this question Nakul nodded.
"And you both know what was happening as it was your plan." Mr. Bhuvan said gesturing Maha and me.
"So, you became the fool in all this." He added, shaking his head, looking at Swathi and she fisted her hands before moving to say something but Maha held her hand.
"Your Grandma knows?" he asked and I shook my head in negative.
"I don't want her to know because the marriage will end within four months." I replied staring at him and met with silence.
"Not mine!" Nakul whispered, making me shake my head.
"Then it is better if she doesn't know. But at least give her a call because I told her about the accident." He said and I groaned.
"She will not rush here because I told her that you are fine." He added making me frown.
"I lied!" he explained my confusion and I nodded.
"Why didn't you come here when I called you?" Nakul asked him, but I can see his eyes drooping.
"I was busy with their work and didn't get your message." He replied before glancing at Maha.
"I am glad it is not a Sathish's daughter you got married to." He commented and we all frowned.
"Because Mr. Sathish was the reason for Dad's death?" Nakul asked, to which he shook his head.
"What? What rubbish!" Swathi said, glaring at Nakul.
"How does it feel when someone is being blamed for something they have not done?" I asked her and she turned her glare to me.
"James!" Mr. Bhuvan warned me before glancing at her.
"I know I think like that, but only because he was stressed to his core because of the pressure from your Dad. I was in grief, but now I know some things just happen." He said looking at her.
"I am glad that it was not you who got married to Nakul because I know how vengeful your Dad is unlike her Mom. I would have still doubted her intentions, but her reaction hearing my shouts and care for him shows that she is not here for any bad intention." He explained looking at Maha.
"I shouted because you were disturbing him, Mr. Singh." She said frowning and suddenly Nakul chuckled but closed his eyes controlling it.
"Call me Grandpa." He said and she nodded slowly.
"You know I was being blamed?" Nakul asked not opening his eyes.
"Yes! Don't worry about your wife because your Dad liked her." This statement caused a hell lot of silence.
"What?" Swathi and Nakul screamed, but Nakul's voice was weak of course.
"He talked to you about me?" Maha asked him and he nodded.
"You talked to Dad's rival?" Swathi asked her frowning.
"I didn't know who was he. He was chief guest when I was studying my final year for my college. I was in hospitality team and we chatted a little. I didn't know why he talked a lot continuously after some time. The function was for two days and we talked those two days. He even blessed me before going saying that he is happy to meet me." Maha explained looking at her sister.
"He felt happy talking to you too." Mr. Bhuvan said to which she smiled.
"I liked him too, and felt sad when he died, but then realized he was Father's rival." She said and he nodded before glancing at Swathi.
"Still want to take revenge on my grandson?" he asked making me stare at Swathi who in turn stared at me.
"No! I left it way back." She replied, staring at me, to which I snorted.
"What is it, James?" he asked and I glanced at Nakul to see slowly drifting off into sleep with a frown.
"Nurse said he will be sleeping in between." Maha said to us and I nodded before glancing at the person who is waiting for my answer.
"Mr. Sathish and Swathi could be behind the accident." I replied and heard a gasp.
"No!" Maha said, shaking her head.
"They are not, James." Mr. Bhuvan said, surprising me and he gave a small smile before I frowned at him.
"How did you know there was an accident? I made sure our names don't come across the news." I asked and he nodded.
"The person who did this sent me the news about it." His replied made me freeze.
"You are definitely Nakul's Grandpa giving us one shock after the other." Maha whispered before reaching near us.
"Who did this? I thought it was a normal accident." She said staring at him, but he shook his head.
"I am not sure completely and that's what I was searching for all these days." He said leaning back.
"Okay! I will just go and take some rest. I tried to reach here as soon as possible. I am glad he is fine." He added, looking at Nakul's sleeping frame.
"I failed you." I said to which he laughed.
"I blamed Nakul and even you. That doesn't mean you both went ahead to have this accident. I am just an old man taking his anger out on others to cover the helplessness." He said staring at Nakul.
"He will be fine." Maha said, holding his hand and he smiled at her.
"Kamal would have been too happy to have you as his daughter-in-law." Saying that he walked away while she stared back at him.
I glanced at Swathi to see her leaning on the wall with closed eyes. I turned to stare at Maha only to meet her stare, which is completely throwing disappointment.
"We will talk later." I said not wishing to give any reasons for my assumption of reason behind the accident.
"Just call me if you need anything." I told her and walked off to meet the guards I placed near the door.
"No one except a doctor and the nurse should enter. Make sure they are genuine ones too." I ordered them and they nodded.
I entered my room and stared at my phone for a few seconds before calling her. I sat on the bed, frowning at everything that happened today.
"James! You are fine, right? Or did that old man lie to me?" she asked making me smile.
"He didn't lie old woman." I replied, making her sigh in relief.
"Show some respect for your grandma." She said scolding me.
"Like you are showing for Mr. Bhuvan." I retorted smiling more feeling the need to talk to her.
It shouldn't hurt, but it is. I shouldn't be this lost in this marriage, but I know I was with too many plans and everything.
"Do you know, Tina was crying when she heard about your accident." She commented making me roll my eyes.
"Grandma!" I said in a tired voice.
"What? She is perfect for you and you were mad for her all those years back. Now, she realized her mistake for leaving you and is taking such good care of me. Will you marry her? If you say no then tell me the reason." She demanded and I wish my other hand is fine so that I could rub my forehead.
"I will tell you my answer after four months." I stated and she stayed silent for a second before sighing.
"Fine! Should I come there now? I want to meet Nakul. Poor boy! How is he?" she asked and I know that I can't allow her to come here.
"You can't come here. I have enough work of looking after Nakul. If you come then I had to look after you and spend time with you. It would be bad for my company name. My employees will feel to do the same bringing their families to the work place and everything. Do you want someone to question our family name?" I asked her, hoping it does the trick.
"No! No! Your Grandfather and Dad will turn in their graves if that happens. I will not come now but will when it will be fine to." She replied and I closed my eyes.
We talked for a few minutes and hung up. I sighed in relief before laying on the bed with closed eyes feeling tired.
"Nurse said you will feel weak because of medicines." I opened my eyes, hearing the voice to see her walking into the room.
"Just leave me alone." I said, shaking my head.
"What company is his grandpa talking about?" she asked, sitting on the chair.
"Fine! I have my own security company from where people can hire their own security team and bodyguards. That's what he was talking about." I replied and she stared at me with shock.
"What? Turned out I was not the pauper you were thinking, right." I said snorting and she immediately frowned.
"James! Don't talk like that." She said, pleading with me.
"Why not? And that day talking about, you being fine with me just being a bodyguard and my pay. All that was also fake, right? Just to make me a bigger fool." I said, but she shook her head.
"What can I do to prove that only one thing I lied about and that to just for a single day?" she asked frowning.
"How can I believe anything else to be true when that is a lie?" I asked back and she covered her face looking down and I closed my eyes looking away.
"You need to leave from here." I said and didn't hear any voice.
"No, James! I will not go anywhere. I am not the person who will go away because I was being misunderstood. And also I know this was my mistake somewhere. I know, you wouldn't have thought like this if I hadn't lied in the first place. I know all this, but I also know I will not back off." Her speech made me close my eyes tightly.
"So, I will be taking care of you will not be able to say anything to me." She boldly said and I frowned opening my eyes.
"How can you be so sure?" I asked, staring at her to which she smiled.
"Just like how you couldn't ignore me anymore and talk to me right now." She replied and I shook my head feeling shock but didn't show.
"Take some rest, James. I am right here." She stated and closed her eyes, leaning back while I continued to stare at her.
I closed my eyes, feeling more tired revising everything along with the hurt that entered my life from yesterday. No! I will not feel that and make sure to push it away along with this person.
