Chapter Thirty-Three

***ZAC'S POV***

My mind often felt like it was in another universe, it felt like I was floating around going in to a space of nothingness.

Before it happened here and there, but now I found myself constantly pondering, thinking about Hannah. She was like a parasite that infected my brain.

Every time I pushed hard to think about Melissa the same way, my mind boomeranged back to her. I didn't want it to be this way, but it was.

All the close moments we spent together, felt normal, like I was meant to be with her. Her innocent yet fiery demeanour always captured my attention.

My brain was truly scrambled.

"Are you going to have a shot or what?" A voice boomed into my ear and suddenly I was slammed back into a room full of people.

The high thumping of the music woke me up from my deep thoughts. I turned to follow the voice that snapped me out.

Harry stood there with his bright wide eyes, offering me a shot. Josh stood behind him, all pumped up with energy getting ready to down the burning drink. Just as I was about to take the drink, Ruby caught my eye. Something seemed off, it then dawned to me that Hannah wasn't by her side.

I brushed the offer away and after hearing endless protests from Harry and Josh, I walked away ignoring their booming voices over the music.

"Hey!" I called out, grabbing Ruby's attention.

She lifted her head slightly as a way of greeting me. I didn't want to straight ask her about Hannah, but something in me was itching and burning to know where she was.

"Did Hannah not come with you?" I bravely let out, not caring about what she would think.

Ruby pressed her brows together, looking at me in a quizzical manner. "I thought she was with you?"

"What? Me? I haven't seen her." I shrugged my shoulders, titling my head in a confusing manner.

"She was with me, but then she left. I assumed she left me to find you, I didn't really question her, but she's been gone a while now." Ruby inched her head around the busy room, trying to locate Hannah.

I felt my senses heightened, as if I was undercover to find her. After patting my pockets, I was unable to locate my phone.

"Shit," I muttered. "I can't find my phone. Have you tried ringing her?"

Automatically, it was like Ruby and I formed a tag-team in a bid to try and find Hannah. Whilst Ruby dialled on her phone, Melissa made an appearance, snaking her arm around my waist and leaning close to me.

"Hey babe," she chimed. "Look what I found."

My eyes fixated on her hand, where my phone was peacefully placed. I quickly grabbed it making a quick dial to see if I could get through to Hannah. All I heard was the dull beep. Grunting in frustration, I turned to look at Ruby but she shook her head, indicating that she was getting the same beep.

"What are you doing?" Melissa inquired, inching her head between us.

"Not that you give a shit, but we're trying to find Hannah." Ruby quickly answered, informing Melissa of the situation.

"Oh Hannah? She's gone home," Melissa revealed. "I saw her leaving a while ago."

Both Ruby and I jerked our head back. Something about Hannah unexpectedly leaving didn't sit right with me. I felt like I knew her well enough to not do something like that.

"No, that can't be right." Ruby shook her head. "We came together and we had a plan to leave together. I know she wouldn't just leave."

"But she did." Melissa shrugged her shoulders.

The rhythmic base of the music vibrated my brain, as I tried to think straight. I couldn't regulate my thoughts as I tried to make sense of the situation. I pushed myself out of Melissa's grasp, needing the space to think clearly.

In an instant Ruby's face flashed as if she had a lightbulb flick in her eyes. "I can track her phone through Snapchat."

She quickly tapped away on her phone and I nervously waited for her to come up with an answer. I started to bite the inside of my lips and cheek, feeling restless.

"She's still here." Ruby looked up, wide eyed and then turning her head to Melissa.

"If she's still here, why would you say she left?" I sternly asked Melissa.

She seemed lost for words as she started stuttering, trying to form words. After brushing Melissa off I turned back to Ruby.

"Let's look for her. You check downstairs and I'll check upstairs." I gave clear instructions as if I was ordering someone ready to go to war.

Not waiting a second further, Ruby marched away. I proceeded to slam my feet against the ground, acting as if it was my mission to find Hannah. Melissa called out my name from behind, trying to get me to stop, but I blocked it all out whilst pushing past the partygoers who socialised around.

I studied all the faces, making sure I didn't miss Hannah. The more I looked, the more I was frustrated at myself for not being able to find her. There was a strange sensation swirling around me, like I was lost in the woods and I needed her.

Why did I need her?

Pushing through each door and scanning the room, she still wasn't located. I was mere seconds away from giving up, until my eyes caught onto the second flight of stairs. It didn't make sense for her to be up there, but I needed a peace of mind.

"Why are you going up to the attic?" Melissa called out, barging in front of me, causing me to abruptly stop in my tracks.

"I just need to check-"

"Well she's not going to be up there, it's just a storage room," Melissa rapidly responded.

My hands landed onto Melissa's shoulders, pushing her to the side. I proceeded to stride up the stairs, but was cut short as I was stopped by a locked door. After rattling, pushing and kicking it a few times, I let out a frustrated grunt.

"Open this door," I ordered Melissa, but she stood frozen, not bothering to respond.

"Did you not hear what I said? Open the door." I was slowly starting to lose my patience.

There was something off in the atmosphere around me, like something was waiting to attack me. I felt myself teetering on the edge of something, hoping I would find Hannah. I couldn't comprehend why I was so adamant in finding her.

"This is just a storage room, she won't be in here," Melissa let out in a persistent tone.

She was close to convincing me to leave this room, but something was calling me to check it out. Like a hunch was floating around me.

"Alright fine," I sighed. "I'll just break the door down."

I took one step back, prepping myself to charge like a enraged bull. My eyes narrowed onto the door as if it was my target.

"Wait!" Melissa called out.

I came down from my high and noticed her descending the stairs. A few seconds later she came back, with a key. I didn't give her a chance to unlock the door, as I snatched it from her. By then, Ruby reunited, hope waved through me in the bid of finding out she was downstairs the whole time. The hope evaporated from me as she shook her head.

The attic room was the last hope. Sucking in a sharp breath and slowly exhaling out, the key was inserted and wearingly I turned it to open the door.

At first I was welcomed to a dark and dingy room, with the smell of damp attacking my nose. Particles of dust flooded into my mouth, causing short coughs to burst from within me. The door was pushed further enabling light to flood the room.

When I was finally able to make sense of what I was looking at, my body froze in terror. Slowly my mouth gaped open and my eyes widened. My skin was tingling to the point where I was starting to feel numb. A sudden coldness hit me in my core as everything around me started to move in slow motion.

I was overwhelmed with so many feelings. Confusion. Disbelieve. Disorientation. Dizziness. Shock.

There right in front of me was Hannah's lifeless body. I couldn't bring myself to move my feet. It felt like my whole world was crumbing, I couldn't even shake myself out of this. I was paralysed with terror.

A shriek escaped from Ruby as she pushed past me, kneeling besides Hannah. Audible screams where shouted my way, but my ears were not able to pick one word.

I forced myself to snap out of it and then it all came crashing into me like a bulldozer. After falling down beside Hannah, my hands automatically wrapped around her limp body, pulling her into my grasp.

In that moment I didn't care about anything. I just wanted to protect Hannah. My shaking hands felt for a pulse and relief washed over me as I felt a heartbeat.

"Call an ambulance," I commanded.

Ruby was in complete and utter shock, muttering to Hannah, hoping she would wake. My head turned to face Melissa who stood like a statue near the door.

"Did you not hear what I fucking said," I thundered.
"Call the fucking ambulance now!"

Melissa jumped at my sudden command, but proceeded to dial and call for help. My head was snapped back to Hannah. I clutched onto her like myself depended on it. My shaky hands caressed her smooth, yet cold, face.

"The ambulance is on its way." The hushed voice of Melissa called out, but I didn't even bother to acknowledge her. I couldn't draw my attention away from Hannah.

Just towards the left of me, I noticed her phone and inhaler sprawled out. Internally, I kicked myself at the thought of her being alone up here, struggling to breath. The thought of her having an asthma attack and panicking to get a simple breath, terrified me, it shook me with fear. How I wished I had been here. It felt like I had the responsibility to protect her.

Studying her face, the glow she always had, faded. There was no brightness and I cursed at myself, wondering how long she had been up here.

Not bothering to be aware of my surroundings, I pulled her closer to me. Keeping her within my grasp till help arrived, was all I could do.

"Come on Hannah Montana." A shaky whisper escaped from my mouth. "Stay with me."

Now it was a waiting game. The sand was slowly starting to fall as the timer had begun. I prayed for the ambulance to get here, before the timer ran out...

Decided to do this chapter different in Zac's POV.

You kinda get an idea as to what he's thinking and feeling about Hannah.

They've found Hannah do you think she'll be okay? Let's hope so!
