"What is it?" Cassie asked as she came over but she just froze as well when she looked over at what Luke was referring to. There stood at the door were two young toddlers that looked almost like little mini versions of her.
One of them was standing on her tippy toes as she kept hitting the doorbell over and over again while giggling clearly enjoying it. The other was just covering her ears while the man from earlier was on the phone clearly not paying attention to either of them.
The one toddler that had been having fun ringing the doorbell just stopped as she looked over at them and smiled. "Hi!" The young girl exclaimed excitedly as she just ran over to them. The other one uncovered her ears when she realized the ringing had finally stopped.
"Um, what is happening right now?" Cassie asked as she was so confused by everything going on right now. First her dad that she had never even met before shows up out of the blue and now two toddlers that look kinda similar to her too.
"I don't know. Do you think those are his kids?" Luke asked Cassie who looked over confused before her eyes widened in realization. They had come with him and they did look almost identical to how she looked when she was that age. Luke was right, they most likely were his kids. Cassie couldn't believe this.
There was a strong possibility right now that Cassie had two half sisters. She didn't even know how to feel about that. Sure when she was growing up she had always wanted to meet her father, but what young child didn't. Over time Cassie had learned the truth and saw that she was better off without him.
Now here he was at her doorstep with her two most likely half sisters. Cassie sighed as she knew that this situation just got more complicated. "Oh I see you came out," the man told them, causing Cassie to turn her attention back over to him instead of the toddlers.
"What are you doing here? And who are those kids!" Cassie replied back as she wasn't in the mood to be small talking with him. She wanted to know why the heck he was at her doorstep and why he had the two toddlers with him.
"I wanted to see my daughter," the man told Cassie as he tried to get close to her. Cassie immediately backed away as she leaned in closer to Luke not wanting to be anywhere near him.
"No you don't get to say that! You're not my father! I don't have one! And you need to leave now before I call the cops for you trespassing!" Cassie cried out as she just wanted him to leave her alone.
It made her sick that he would even think about referring to her as his daughter. Cassie didn't have a father. Her mother raised her all alone from the day she was born. He was not her father, he was a sperm donor and that was it. Nothing he did was ever going to change that.
"Cassie, I know I messed up. I was young and immature. I just wasn't ready and your mom and I just weren't right for each other. I know it was stupid but..." Cassie's father began but Cassie wasn't having any of it. Cassie wasn't stupid she can spot an act when she sees one.
He didn't care about her and he had an ulterior motive. She wasn't sure what that was yet, but she could tell. You don't just leave, never once having contact or anything for 23 years and then just randomly decide you want to be involved again.
There was something else this man wanted.
"Don't even try that bull sh*t! If you actually cared about me you would have been back way before now! Why are you really here? Is it because you heard about my band and now you want some of that money and fame?" Cassie coldly told her father.
"Cassie, I understand that you're upset. You have every right to be. I know that I messed up, but I want to fix things. The girls deserve to have a family. I want them to have their big sister in their lives. Can't you at least do that for them?"
The man told Cassie making her want to throw up again at the way he was talking to her. He was using the toddlers to manipulate her. He knew that Cassie would be less likely to shove the door in his face if he brought up the innocent toddlers.
Cassie just closed her eyes as she tried to think about what to do. This situation was definitely a tricky one. Cassie knew that he was just using the young toddlers to manipulate and guilt her, but at the same time they were just babies. It wasn't fair for Cassie to shut them out just because she wanted absolutely nothing to do with her sperm donor.
If Cassie slammed the door in their face she would be abandoning them as well and Cassie couldn't do that. She knew what it was like to be abandoned by a family member. It was horrible and Cassie didn't want them to grow up feeling as though their big sister didn't want anything to do with them.
Cassie knew she was going to regret this, but she didn't really have any other choice. It was either suck it up and let them inside or have the young girls feel as though their sister wanted nothing to do with them. Cassie couldn't do that to them. They were just babies.
"Fine but I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing this for them only. Unlike you I don't want to make them feel abandoned or unwanted," Cassie told the man as she just opened the door allowing them inside. "Cassie, are you sure about this?" Luke asked his wife as he could feel her tense up; he knew that she didn't like this.
Cassie just slowly nodded as she leaned into him more. "I have to do this Luke," Cassie told him, causing him to look up at her. "You don't have to do anything you don't want to do Cassie," Luke told her as he didn't like seeing her doing something she didn't like.
Cassie just shook her head again as she got up. As much as she knew she was going to regret this she had to do this. "They're just babies," Cassie told the former marine who slowly nodded as he just followed her back inside.
