Chapter Thirty Six
- Yaoyorozu -
With winter break quickly approaching, the Todoroki family wanted to have dinner with me and my parents before U.A. let out. Aizawa was completely frustrated by Endeavor's insistence to take Shoto and I off campus again. In the end, Aizawa caved to the request. The Todoroki family came to pick up Shoto and I from campus and escort us to the restaurant we were going to eat this evening. It was really starting to get chilly outside so Shoto and I were bundled up in our coats and scarves. The car was so warm that we didn't need them on, but I did want to take mine off for such a short trip.
I was surprised when we pulled up to the restaurant. It was definitely one of the nicer restaurants in the area, but not the best. Endeavor passed the keys to the valet and we went inside. The inside was grand, with tall ceilings, elegant wallpaper, and crystal chandeliers. My parents had already arrived and were waiting in the entry area. We took our jackets off and left them at the coat check so we didn't have to fuss with them at the table.
"Hello Momo!" My mom greeted giving me a hug once my coat was off, "And Shoto, good to see you again!"
Shoto just nodded in response. He still wasn't sure what to say to my family. He assured me that he liked them, but he just never knows what to talk about around them. I gave him a small nudge and nodded towards his family.
"Mr. and Mrs. Yaoyorozu, these are my parents, Enji and Rei, and my siblings, Fuyumi and Natsuo." He introduced.
"Very nice to meet you!" Rei smiled shaking my parents' hands, "Momo is absolutely wonderful and we're so happy to get everyone together like this."
"We've been wanting to meet you all as well." My dad agreed.
"Perhaps we should continue at the table?" Endeavor suggested and we all nodded. He walked up to the host stand to check in.
"I had a reservation under the name Todoroki." He told the hostess.
"Yes sir, there are eight of you, correct?"
"Yes, that is correct."
"Follow me." She told us before leading us into the dining room. She led us through the restaurant; and with every table we passed, the people sitting at them stopped talking and stared at Endeavor as he walked by. Whispers about him, Shoto, Rei, my parents, and even myself riddled the air after we passed.
Shoto squeezed my hand to reassure me. As much as I hated all the attention, it was excellent training for when Shoto and I became real heroes.
"Here we are!" The hostess announced standing in front of a large round table set up in a slightly secluded area.
"Thank you, this is perfect." Endeavor nodded as we all took our seats around the table.
The restaurant was fairly nice and I wish I had known we were going somewhere like this. Shoto and I would have dressed a little better if we had. We weren't dressed sloppy or anything, but we certainly weren't quite up to standard.
I picked up the menu and started to look at the different options. Everyone else did the same and we placed our order before long. With the decision out of the way we all started to chat. The beginning of the conversation was pointed towards Shoto and me. Our parents asked us how school was going and other things like that.
Eventually the conversation turned to pro hero work in general. Endeavor took lead of the conversation, for obvious reasons, but the way he discussed the matter made him seem rude. He talked about even the most simple things as though none of us had no idea what they were. Such as the hero ranking. I'm fairly sure that everyone at the table knows how it works, but he was explaining every little detail. I could tell it bothered my parents, but they were being polite.
Luckily, they were able to change the conversation by the time our food arrived. The food smelled divine and looked delicious. It tasted even better than I expected it would. The food became the subject of conversation for a while.
"Have you ever had the swordfish here?" Endeavor asked my parents.
"No, I can't say that we have." My dad told him, "We don't come to restaurants like this often."
"Oh, in that case, tonight's dinner is my treat!"
"No, it's fine, really!" My mother tried to argue.
"Nonsense! There's no need for you all to worry about the cost." Endeavor insisted. My parents finally caved and let him pay for everyone's meal. I don't think he realizes what my parents do and how much money they have. They just tend to eat at home because it's more comfortable to negotiate deals with people in a familiar setting. With the bill paid and our meals finished, we decided it was
"Well, since you paid for dinner tonight, let us host our families for Christmas this year!" My mom decided as we got our coats from the vallet.
"Are you sure?" Rei asked, "There are so many of us. We wouldn't want to be a burden."
"You all wouldn't be a burden at all! It'd be a great way for the families to bond more." My mom reassured, "We'll be staying in a private countryside estate for the week of Christmas. We'll have Momo give Shoto the address for you all."
"Mr. and Mrs. Yaoyorozu, your driver is here." One of the employees said to my parents.
"Oh, yes! Thank you. Tell him we'll be out in a moment." My mom told the worker.
"Private estate? Are you sure it's alright?" Endeavor wondered.
"Of course. We stay there every winter break. It's perfectly fine." My dad confirmed, "We shouldn't keep Mr. Endo waiting any longer. We're going to head on out. It was lovely meeting you again and we'll see you all this Christmas."
"Thank you again for dinner." My mom insisted shaking the Todoroki family's hands again, "Have a wonderful evening! Goodbye sweetheart."
She gave me a hug and a kiss on the forehead and my father did the same.
"It was great to see you. Thank you for coming!" I told them as they exited the restaurant.
"Mr. Todoroki, the vallet is here with your car." The same worker told Endeavor.
"Ah, yes. Let's get going then." He answered ushering his family out of the doors.
"Does your dad know what my parents do?" I whispered to Shoto.
"I don't think so." He answered quietly.
"So he doesn't realize how rich my family is?"
"I don't think so."
"That explains a lot... Christmas ought to be eye opening for him"
"Yeah" Shoto chuckled, "I can't wait."
