Chapter Thirty

- Yaoyorozu -

I started down Endeavor, daring him to do something. The entire Todoroki family seemed surprised. The unspoken question hung in the air.

"Eh?" Endeavor said, "What do you think you're doing, girl?"

Looks like Endeavor was brave enough to be the first one to ask. Fuyumi and Natsuo could only watch, gaping at the three of us.

"I'm doing what you've convinced everyone else they can't do: stand up to you." I told him.

"What?" Endeavor growled clenching his fists.

"Momo, just sit down. This doesn't have anything to do with you." Shoto whispered tugging on my harm while Fuyumi and Natsuo looked terrified.

"No, this have everything to do with me because it has to do with you." I told him shaking his hand away. I turned back to Endeavor,  "You've gone too long without someone telling you that you can't treat people like this.

"These are your children. They need to rely on you, but instead they fear you. Heck, even I feared you and I've never met you! That's not how the number one hero is supposed to behave. Until you've changed your ways, you won't see me again. No matter how long it takes. When Shoto and I get married, you won't be there. When Shoto and I have children, you won't be there. I refuse to be in the same room as a rude, manipulative man who considers himself a hero. Let's go Shoto." I finished grabbing my boyfriend's hand. I could feel everyone's eyes on me as we left the dining room.

I led him back to the front door and slipped on my shoes. Shoto did the same. We both threw on a jacket and went outside. We wandered to the garden behind the house and sat down under one of the trees.

Shoto and I sat there in silence for what seemed like forever just listening to the noise of the city around us. I was too nervous to say anything. I lost all my confidence and found myself on the verge of tears.

"Momo..." Shoto finally spoke up.

"I know, I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me." I broke down crying. I just made an enemy of the number one hero. What was I thinking?

He pulled me onto his lap and tired to comfort me. He held me close and switched between rubbing my back and stroking my hair while whispering comforting words.

"No no no, don't apologize. That was amazing. Thank you."

My sobs soon subsided, but he continued to comfort me. I can't even begin to explain how lucky I am to have Shoto in my life. He was so sweet.

"Thank you Shoto. I'm sorry again for ruining dinner." I apologized.

"You didn't ruin dinner, he did. We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." He told me and I nodded.

We sat in a comfortable silence while listening to the noise of the city around us. The night was peaceful and I was completely content relaxing with Shoto.

"Hey Momo."

"Yes Shoto?"

"I know we've talked about marriage, but have you started to think about what kind of wedding you want?"

"Oh, no, not really anyway. Have you?" I admitted

"No, I haven't."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"It might be nice." He shrugged. I smiled at him. He was precious. I found it absolutely amazing that he actually thought about our future together even though it was so far away.

"Alright! Is there a certain time of the year you'd want it?" I asked. He sat quiet for a while pondering the different seasons. I knew I didn't want a summer wedding or a spring wedding.

"I think a winter wedding would be nice."

"That does sound nice. I'd like to have red as one of the colors and I'm sure you'd like some blue?"

He nodded. We kept talk about different aspects of our wedding for a while. It was nice talking about our future together. We talked about what age we wanted to get married, what kind of house we wanted, when we wanted to have kids, the names for the kids, etc. It was nice laying everything out on the table. We agreed on most things and compromised on the things we didn't. We fell into another comfortable silence while watching the stars appear in the sky.

"Yaoyorozu." A gruff voice called out. We looked over to see Endeavor, now in civilian clothes. "Can I talk to you?"

"Um, yeah. I guess that's fine." I said glancing at Shoto, whose arms tightened around my waist.

"Alone." Endeavor added.

"No. Absolutely not." Shoto growled.

"It's alright Shoto, I'll be fine." I assured him before turning to Endeavor, "You have five minutes."

Shoto and I stood up. He gave me a kiss on my temple before leaving me to talk with his father. I was nervous, but five minutes isn't that long and I can handle it.

"It has come to my attention how I treat people." He struggled with the words.

"Go on." I encouraged. He growled before sighing and apologizing.

"I never really realized how bad my behavior had gotten until you brought it up. But you're completely right, my family is terrified of me and I'm slowly losing them all.

"I know it'll take some work, but as long as you and Shoto are happy and keep coming around, I will make an effort to change my ways. Is that a deal?" He asked holding his hand out. I stared at his hand. It seemed to sudden. I wonder if Fuyumi and Natsuo said something after Shoto and I left. Maybe not really being in Shoto's life once we're married really shocked Endeavor. I'm not sure what drove him to this, but he seemed genuine about his offer. I shook his hand.

"As long as you make an effort to improve, Shoto and I will continue to visit you."

"Five minutes are up." Shoto called out coming back over to us and Endeavor nodded.

"Thank you Yaoyorozu. I'll see you the next time you decide to visit us. I hope that dinner goes better." Endeavor told me before heading back inside the house.

"What was that about?" Shoto asked me, "You're ok being in the same room as him now?"

"Yeah, I am." I admitted softly

"Did he threaten you?" Shoto questioned clenched his fists

"No no, nothing like that. He actually said he was going to try to change his behavior as long as we still came around."

"I don't believe that bullshit." Shoto said. I can't blame him. Endeavor's been awful to him his entire life. Why on earth would Shoto believe him? He didn't see the look in Endeavor's eyes. I know he's being truthful about this deal. The thought of losing his son was too much, even for the calloused number one hero.
