Chapter 23

-Lucy's P.O.V-

If there was anyway to cheer a girl up, shopping was definitely it! Me and the girls had been out for hours, we must've gone to every clothing store in town. Our hands were overloaded with bags full of new clothes and shoes. We currently stood in our final shop for the day, a certain dress had caught my eye, a cream square neck line skater dress.

"Don't you have one already like that?" Lauren asked, examining the dress.

"Do I ?"

"I think you do"

"No she doesn't, I know which one you mean but it's nothing like this one" Ella stated. I held the dress up to me and looked in the mirror.

"It is a gorgeous dress"  I admitted.

"You should get it" Lauren smirked. "Make that douchebag realise he made a mistake"

"He's not a douchebag Lauren" I defended Bobby. "It's not his fault"

"Hey I thought we wasn't gonna talk about Bobby, this is to make Lucy feel better" Ella interrupted.

"It is, she'll look sexy in the dress and for a bonus he'll realise he chose wrong" Lauren argued back. I rolled my eyes at her and smiled.

"Look if I'm buying this dress, I'm buying it for me and no one else" I stated.

"I know but she does have a point" Ella added.

I looked at them both before grabbing my size and heading to the counter.  I purchased the dress and we left the store before we ended up spending our life savings in there.

"Don't move" Ella instructed as she applied Lauren's face mask, mine was already on. We had all already changed into our pyjama bottoms and tank top.

"Don't forget the cucumber" Lauren sarcastically said.

"It's right here" Ella quickly held it up and waved it around.

"I was joking" Lauren muttered, glancing in my direction.

Once Ella had finished applying Lauren's, I did hers. Ella cut up little pieces of cucumber for us to put over our eyes, the three of us leant back against Lauren's bed enjoying the music playing on the radio.

We removed the cucumber from our eyes and gave each other a knowing look as soon as Bruce Springsteen's 'Dancing In The Dark' began to play. If we could've screamed we would've, but we couldn't risk damaging the masks. Lauren got up to turn up the volume, the three of us danced around the room like we had never danced before.

- 1 Week Later-

I hadn't spoken to Bobby for the past week. I tried to avoid him when at school, obviously I would sneak a quick glance at him every now and then. I even caught him doing the same. It broke my heart. I missed our conversations or when we'd hang out just because. Anytime I saw him at school, Lisa was there by his side, which didn't help better my emotions. Why couldn't it be me?

He wrote me a note at school explaining that we needed to get on with the project and the joke of it all. He left it in my locker for me to find...again. I knew we couldn't hang out or talk like we use to but that is ridiculous.

Lauren had convinced me to wear the dress I brought on our girls day. I knocked on the front door and his dad answered. I had met his parents a couple of times and they were lovely. It took some time for me to get use to his mom though, she's a little too stuck up for my liking. His dad on the other hand is great.

"Lucy, come in" I thanked him and he led me into their kitchen, pulling out a stool for me.

"Can you let him know I'm here" I asked politely.

"I think he already knows. Give him a minute though, he's just up there with Lisa" He told me. I frowned and looked down at my hands.

"Oh I didn't know"

"Can you keep a secret?" Bobby's' dad asked and I nodded. "Between you and me. I can't stand the girl. She's not right for my boy"

"Why do you think that?"

"She's too full of herself and lately she's been acting strange. My wife loves them together because her family is wealthy like ours. But no. I don't agree. Bobby needs to find someone who's genuine. To be honest, you'd be great for him"

"Oh no Mr Brown. I'm flattered but Bobby's not my type" I lied. This just keeps getting worse.

"Such a shame" He muttered staring directly at me, sipping his coffee. It was like he saw past my lies.

I heard giggling coming from the stairs, my head snapped up, two sets of footsteps coming down. Lisa came first, followed by Bobby. Lisa spotted me and lifted her finger to wipe her bottom lip with a sly grin, I cringed at her actions.

"Oh I'm sorry we didn't know you were down here. You haven't been waiting long have you?" She spoke. This bitch. Bobby stood awkwardly.

"Nope, I just arrived" I told her.

"I see. Well I'll let you too get on with it. You just make sure my Bobby gets a good grade for all this hard work"

"Sure" I muttered. I watched in disgust as they shared a long kiss. Bobby's dad turned away to distract himself with something else.

"I'll see you out" Bobby told her. They both walked away from the kitchen to the door.

"Like I said, I can't stand her" Bobby's dad whispered to me as he passed. I couldn't help but laugh.

"What's so funny?" Bobby asked as he came back.

"Nothing son" His dad grinned over at him before leaving the room.

"Shall we get on with it?" I nodded and grabbed my bag. Following him upstairs without saying a word. His eyes trailing from the top of my body to my legs didn't go unnoticed however.
