My New School (Part 2)
I started to walk down the hallway, not really knowing where I was going. It was a lot more cleaner than most other schools I've been to. It felt nice and I felt comfortable. Many students smiled kindly, while some other ignored my presence. I finally realized that I was supposed to actually be somewhere, not roaming the halls, taking the chance of getting lost.
I wasn't sure where I was supposed to be, though, so I walked around until I found the principal's office. Her office was beautiful. She had a picture of her children, her husband, and herself hanging on the wall. She had posters of inspirational quotes around the room. Her bookshelves were very organised and her desk was neat. She gave a kind smile and put down her pen to give me her full attention.
"Hello, sweetie. What do you need?" She asked.
"Hi, uh, my name is Jennifer King. I'm the, uh, new student." I replied. Her face brightened and she stood up. She walked forward me and held out her hand for me to shake. I stared at her for a second, then shook her hand.
"Hi Jennifer. My name is Mrs. Collins. I'm the principal for the Webb City High School. Trust me, you're going to love it here!" She said with a smile on her face.
"Thank you Mrs. Collins," I said quietly.
"No problem. Do you need help finding what class you're in?"
"Yes please."
She opened a journal and scrolled down the list with her finger.
"Okay. You are in... Mrs. Hawkins class! She is the chemistry teacher. Don't worry, you'll love her! I'll call down one of my loyal students to help you navigate you're classes and will help you for your first day."
She walks over over to the intercom and says I to the microphone, " Josh Lancaster, may you please report to the office? Thanks."
Oh great, I think to myself. A boy. I'm going to turn into a mess!
Suddenly, a tall skinny boy walked into the office, looked at me, then smiled.
"Hey," he says.
"Josh this is our new student, Jennifer. I trust that you will show her around and help her today," Mrs. Collins says. I stared at him. I could feel myself blush a little.
"I sure will."
"Thank you. Here is her schedule. Good luck, Jennifer."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome! Have a great day, guys!"
And that said he led me out of the office. We walked down the hall together.
"Let's see..." He whispered to himself as he scanned the lockers. "There. Here is your locker, Jennifer."
I walked to it, looked at Josh as he smiled at me, then opened it. As I started to stuff the things that I thought I didn't need in it, he leaned against the lockers.
"So, where did you move from?" I looked at him with my eyes open and, being the stupid person I am, replied with," I, uh, well, just,um..."
I felt like a fool. My face turned red and I looked down and bit my lip. Instead of making fun of me, he laughed and said, " this actually may be really fun!"
I looked up at him and we exchanged smiles. I continued putting stuff in my locker. I definitely felt the same way. He had a great personality, as far as I could tell. I felt like I liked him, but I had to remind myself that I had just met him and that he probably already had a girlfriend. Still, I couldn't fight the fact that I wanted to get to know him more.
"So, who's class did you get?" He asked me.
"Mrs. Hawkins," I reply.
"Really?" I nod.
"Me too! She is a very nice teacher. You'll love her."
I smiled, but I didn't look at him. I slammed my locker shut. He led the way as we walked down the hallway. I actually really excited that we were in the same class.
This is going to be a fun year, I thought to myself.
