Chapter Ten~Movies

Sitting next to me on my hospital bed ranting about his life and the "heartless" paparazzi was Sam Evans. He looked pretty scary when he was mad. On the other hand, his eyebrows did this really adorable thing where- I shook my head to empty it of those unnecessary thoughts, focusing on Sam's rant instead.

".... I mean, how did they even get in!? This is a hospital for Christ's sake! People die here, and all they care about is getting a godda-"

I stopped him from going any further by putting a hand over his mouth. I didn't really mind curse words, but the door to my room was open and nurses prowled that hallway like hawks looking for a meal. I was sure they'd kick him out... On the other hand, I bet he could've convinced them to let him stay since he was famous and everything.

"Watch your mouth, Evans," I whispered with a smile.

He tried to say something else, but my hand stopped him, making his words sound like nonsense. I laughed at him, removing my hand, and soon he was laughing as well. A knock at the door brought my attention to a nurse standing there. She wore plan pink scrubs with her red dyed hair in a loose ponytail.

"Need more pain killers, Hun?" She asked, avoiding Sam.

I smiled," Yes, thank you."

She gave me the pills and changed my drip bag while she was at it. I knew it would be a couple minutes before they actually kicked in. The nurse left, leaving the room in silence.

"Sam?"

"Yeah?"

He came back to my bed and sat down, having moved when the nurse came in. He put his back against the pillows and leaned into them, letting out an audible sigh. I put me head on his shoulder, surprising him.

"Will you come see me tomorrow?" I whispered.

"Of course. I'll even bring you jello if you want me too. My dad has an obsession with it, so our pantry is full of the stuff." I couldn't see his face, but I was sure he was smiling.

"And Sam?"

"Yes Poppy?"

"Could you bring The Amazing Spider-Man?"

"You mean... like the movie?" I nodded my head, and he chuckled.

"Sure. I just happen to have the DVD in my bedroom."

"Great..." my eyes were beginning to close. Evans lifted my head off his shoulder and gently laid it on the scratchy hospital pillows. He brushed the curly tendrils of blonde hair out of my face.

"Sweet dreams."
::::::::::::::;::;
I woke up at six the next morning, not my usual time, partly because I fell asleep at about two in the afternoon and partly because a nurse was making a racket with changing my Iv bag. I glared at her, hoping to get her to leave, but she continued her way around my room, making lots of noise as she went.

"Excuse me."

"Hmm?" The nurse looked up at me with disinterest.

"I was trying to sleep, thank you very much."

She just rolled her eyes. I glared at her until she left the room, taking the noise with her. My hospital room was quiet again. Sighing, I got out of the bed and made my way to the bathroom. I really had to pee. Anyways, after I was done I changed into a loose fitting cotton dress and brushed my teeth. I didn't really do dresses, but I was banned from pants and tight fitting shirts because the doctor was worried that I'd "rip my stitches". I didn't see how a nice comfortable pair of yoga pants could hurt, but I wasn't one to ignore the doctor's rules. I pulled my curls into a messy bun and sat back on the bed.

I definitely wasn't going to be able to get back to sleep, so I settled for reading my favorite book until Sam got her with the jello and movie. As I went to pull the book out of the purse, I noticed a dark spot on the fabric. On closer inspection, I realized that it was dried blood. Specifically, my dried blood. I dropped the purse on the floor, clutching The Host to my chest. I was not going to let those memories come back. To put it simply, I was terrified of them and what they meant. I almost died, and I'd never really thought about it till then. Dying was not something I preferred to think about. So, I hurriedly opened the book to a random page and began to read. My heart begun to calm.

I'd just gotten to the part where Wanda and Ian become friends when the door banged open unexpectedly. I let out an involuntary squeal as the book fell out of my hands. Sam stood there, smirking of course. I glared at him.

"Miss me Baker?" Apparently, we were back to our normal taunting selves.

I scoffed. "Miss you? Never."

"One day, I'll make you like me."

"I already like you Evans," I said as I patted the spot next to me. He sat down with a plop.

"What was that? I didn't quite hear it."

I smacked his arm. "Oh shut up! And you're never going to get that out of me again."

He laughed. I like mad it when he laughed. It made me want to laugh to.

"So," he drew out the o," I brought jello and Drum roll...-"

"Spider-Man!?" I shouted, grabbing the bag out of his hand.

Dumping it on the bed, I found that he not only brought jello and Spider-Man but a pile of other movies. The Goonies, Twister, and The Princess Bride were only a few. I grinned at him as he put Spider Man in the DVD player.

"Thanks Sammy, this is great. I've been really bored lately."

"Well," he said in a mock British accent," you shall be bored no more!"
