Chapter 16: Past talks
When we got to Anne's place last night, Lottie went upstairs and never came back down. Not even for dinner.
I only saw Anne, Gemma and Geoff at the table. Afterwards, Adam and I dismissed ourselves to bed. He was really tired and fell asleep quickly. I on the other hand, only got three hours of sleep.
The thought of Liam and Lottie being a thing once, is shocking to me.
Now, here I sit inside Adam's car, driving to I-Hop. Lottie fixes up the last touches of her makeup as she sits beside me.
It feels so long after I finally enter the parking lot to the restaurant.
"Here we are." I take off my seatbelt.
"I see. Thank God because I'm starving!" Lottie laughs as she gets off of the car.
"Me too." I follow and walk next to her.
A nice gentleman opens the door for us and we step into I-Hop.
"Thank you." Lottie thanks him and a lady at the cash register welcomes us with her thick, British accent.
"Only two?" She adds.
"Yes." Lottie replies. The register lady grabs a hold of two menus and asks us to follow her into the restaurant.
We get seated on a booth, facing each other. A waiter comes asking us for what we'd like to drink, then leaves.
As Lottie looks through her menu, I watch her carefully.
"You're just gonna stare at me this whole time?" She smirks without looking at me.
"I'm sorry. I know it's none of my business....but I can't help but wonder and be so anxious of the situation Lottie." I admit to her. She places the menu down and locks eyes with mine.
"Okay...let me first tell you something." She takes a sip of her chocolate milk when the waiter leaves us our drinks.
"What is it?" I take a sip of my orange juice.
"You can't talk about this with Adam or Louis. They don't know." She seems so serious, it kind of makes me wonder how she can put her trust in me. But then again, I forced her to tell me.
"You got it Lottie." I smile at her sincerely.
"So....when I met Matt, Liam was sent by his dad down to my aunt Anne's place to spend the summer and get to know Harry and Gemma...his half brothers." Lottie pushes her hair back and meets my eyes as she begins.
I nod my head as I wait for her to continue.
"At the time....I had been sent to Anne's place as well because my mom couldn't deal with my rebellious attitude." Lottie looks around her, then back at me.
"Liam was very kind and treated me better than Harry and Gemma, but I understood them since I did have quite the bitchy attitude." She giggles under her breath.
"One night, Harry invited us to a party. I saw Matt at the party and we started talking." She sighs.
"Things started to get serious with Matt....but everywhere I went out with Matt, Liam would always tag along." She continues, taking another sip of her drink.
"Then by the middle of summer...Liam would be mad at the fact that I would go out so much with Matt. He stopped talking to me and would ignore me...one day I asked him what his problem was, and well..he kissed me." Lottie stops as she sees the waiter coming with our plates.
"Thank you." Both Lottie and I answer at the same time.
"After that day, something in me grew for him." She begins again once the waiter leaves.
"Wow..this is so hard for me to process." I admit to her.
"I know." She takes a deep breath.
So what happened with Matt?" I frown as I take a bite of my food.
"Well Liam and I kept it a secret for the rest of the summer and I kept going out with Matt so no one would get suspicious." Lottie eats her own food as she speaks.
My whole attention is on her, while I myself eat.
"The next summer...we reunited back in Anne's place, but by the beginning of the summer...Matt caught Liam and I. Matt had proposed to me by winter and I was forced to say yes by my mother." She doesn't seem so comfortable talking about this anymore.
"Lottie it's okay if you don't want to talk about it anymore." I smile at her.
"I'm sorry, it's just....I hate Matt so much." Her eyes grow glassy.
"I bet you do." I try to comfort her.
"Can I ask something else though?" I add.
"Sure." She cleans away the tears that were about to slip down her cheeks.
"How do you do it see him everyday now?" That was really killing my curiosity.
"Liam?" She asks a bit confused.
"Yes."
"We don't talk at all." She looks down at her food.
"Oh...I'm so sorry Lottie." I feel so bad for her. I know that they're somewhat cousins, but that really sucks.
"Don't worry...we're not even supposed to date or anything. We are family." She looks back up to me.
"It's still sad." I smile at her.
"I know!" She rolls her eyes, causing me to laugh.
"Let's finish eating!" Lottie stuffs her mouth with a piece of sausage.
"Wait, one more question?" I ask unsure.
"What is it?"
"Did Anne, Gemma, Harry and everyone else found out about you and Liam?" My eyes stare intently into hers.
"Everyone...but Louis and Adam." She assures me.
--
I re-enter the laundry room with another bag full of dirty clothes. Anne asked if I could help her do laundry, and of course I said yes.
Lottie went to pick up more grocery with Gemma. Anne took her mom to get a pedicure, which I thought was so cute. Louis and Zayn were outside the backyard smoking a cigarette.
I haven't seen Liam or Harry. Geoff and Adam are at work so I'm sure Louis, Zayn and I are the only ones here.
Pulling out all the jeans from the big, black bag first, I then throw them into the washer. Out of a dark pair of skinny jeans falls out a wallet.
I bend down and pick it up. Out of curiosity, I open the wallet instead of just placing it aside.
It happens to be Harry's. He carries his ID and some other cards.
I decide to put it aside before my curiosity decides to check through it all.
I notice that most of the dark, tight jeans hold most things inside the pockets.
Suddenly, my fingers pull out a note.
Carefully, I look out out to the hallway before reading the note. I swear I'm so nosy!
Harry, I'm sorry for getting mad at you last time. I didn't mean to..let me make it up to you Saturday night? (:
Camely :*
For some reason, I begin to heat up. Wait? Saturday. That's tomorrow!
No calm down Emma! He doesn't even care about you.
I try to control myself.
Trying to push it all to the back of my mind, I continue to do the laundry.
Once I finish, I hang out in the kitchen and make myself a peanut butter sandwich when I notice no one seems to be showing up for lunch time.
The front door sounds to open, then shut.
Gulping down my saliva, I pray in my head that if it's Harry I hope he doesn't come into the kitchen.
To my surprise, I see as Zayn and Camely come across towards the living room in a full make out session.
Zayn notices me in the kitchen and quickly disconnects himself from their steamy make out.
"Hey....Emms.." I walk out of the kitchen and into the living room. Once Camely notices me as well, her cheeks redden.
"Hey, don't worry I'm just going to my room." I pass by awkwardly.
"Emma, what you just saw.." Zayn begins but I shake my head.
"I didn't see anything Zayn...you can trust me." I smile at him and continue my jog up the stairs.
