Chapter 2: The beginning of the ruin
Flowey looks at Frisk and laughs.
"Why so zoned out? Surprised by how huge this place is?"
"This is just the beginning!"
Frisk could hardly believe her eyes. The scenery was breathtaking—the rocks, entwined with vines and dotted with red flowers, created a classical atmosphere unlike anything she had ever experienced on the surface. The warmth of the magical torches seeped into her, comforting both her body and soul, while casting the only light in the cave.
As she took in the sight, Flowey's voice yanked her back to reality.
"Hey, hey, don't ignore me!"
"First things first, let's see that soul of yours, buddy."
[The player now sees a GUI of soul types pop up on the screen.]
"Time to pick the soul that suits you!"
[Determination, Kindness, Integrity, Perseverance, Patience, Justice, Bravery.]
"The choice is yours."
[Once the player chooses a soul, the unchosen ones fly off to the other side of the Underground.]
"Such a wise selection, partner!"
"Great job, new friend!" Flowey chirped.
"Now, why don't you take a look around and explore a bit? This place is pretty big, but don't worry—I'll be with you the whole time!"
Flowey winked. "If you need help in a fight, just remember: you've got me!"
With that, Flowey sank back into the ground, disappearing from sight.
Flowey is now part of your team.
[Frisk, controlled by the player, begins exploring the first area of the ruins.]
In the distance, a light catches Frisk's attention. A star... and it's shining.
Flowey suddenly reappears next to the glowing star.
"Curious about this? This is a SAVE STAR, and trust me, you're gonna want to use it."
"It holds the absolute power to [SAVE] and [LOAD] your life. Sounds crazy, right? Like some video game mechanic, but nope—it's real."
[A GUI pops up on the screen.]
{Do you want to save? [Yes] [Cancel]}
Frisk, overwhelmed by the surreal events unfolding, hesitates, her mind buzzing with questions.
"Oh, come on, don't look so freaked out. You're acting like you've seen a... "skeleton"."
. . .
"Ugh, that joke sounded way funnier in my head."
"Anyway, go ahead and save the 'game,' would ya?"
Frisk saves the game.
"Great! You're catching on fast."
"The SAVE STAR does more than just save your progress. You can fast-travel between stars too."
"If things go south, don't worry—I've got your back."
With another cheeky grin, Flowey vanishes, leaving Frisk "alone" once again.
Frisk continues her exploration, eventually spotting a door at a higher level. Stairs on either side lead up to it, and as she ascends, she realizes the door has the same ancient design as the one she saw earlier.
Well, looks like all the doors here are made the same way... she thinks.
As she approaches, the door pulls her into the next area. Despite the change in location, the surroundings still feel familiar—ruins, rocks, vines, and flowers.
Flowey pops back up, floating behind Frisk as she ventures further. Her exploration is soon interrupted by an odd sound.
"Ribbit, ribbit."
A... frog?
"Ribbit."
Before she can react, the frog leaps toward her, and the battle begins.
"Ugh, Froggits—these guys are more annoying than I remember," Flowey mutters.
Annoying? You're the one who's been bugging me this whole time, Frisk thinks.
"Well, this is a perfect opportunity to practice dealing with monsters, isn't it?"
[Skip to the end of the battle.]
[Two options appear on the screen.]
{[Spare] or [Capture]}
Flowey grins.
"Well, well, what do we have here? You can choose to either spare this 'poor, innocent monster' or capture it to make it part of your team."
"But capture isn't guaranteed, you know. Sometimes they might escape."
"So, what's your decision, partner?" Flowey waits eagerly.
Frisk chooses to capture.
"Ah, capture, huh? Nice. Looks like Froggit's now a part of your team."
[The battle ends, and Froggit joins the player's collection.]
[A new UI pops up on the screen.]
"Oh! A new feature! Why don't you click it?"
"It's called 'Warp,' where you can recruit more monsters to join your team."
"Go on, try it out!"
[Player summons Froggit.]
[Details about in-game mechanics omitted for now.]
Frisk continues her journey, crossing a bridge that spans a small lake covered with lily pads and floating flowers. As she steps onto the bridge, she notices a sign.
'The Bridge.'
"Wow, what a super helpful sign," Flowey says sarcastically.
Frisk keeps walking until she reaches a fork in the path. One way leads onward, while the other is broken.
But... there's a faint light coming from the broken path.
A chest?
It looks like a group of monsters is guarding it. Frisk hesitates, unsure if she should approach.
Flowey breaks the silence.
"Hey, you idiot monsters! Come fight us!"
Wait, why would he do that?! Frisk thinks, shocked.
"Ribbit, ribbit!"
"Eat your greens!"
"Please don't pick on me!"
The monsters' strange words swirl around Frisk, but there's no time to think—she has no choice but to fight.
[The battle ends.]
"That was easy, huh?" Flowey smirks.
Frisk, frustrated by Flowey's reckless behavior, just sighs.
"Why don't we check out that chest now?" Flowey suggests.
Frisk opens the chest. Inside... are some gold coins and a few broken weapons, and some artifacts.
"Well, it's better than a stick, right?" Flowey says with a wink.
Frisk sighs again, picking up the items before continuing on her journey.
