cruel clocks
Sounds reverberate, smash through air and space
Full of fragments bathed in black and white
Gears from up above rain down to the ground,
I tread on them; they seem to laugh at me
Ebbot clocktower was the base to the greatest lab and home to you and the amazing scientist you loved. Now you can only watch as it falls apart because the citizens did not submit their loyalty to a tyrant from the neighboring country.
Ebbot was home to the last colony of freelance magic users. Your leader refused to let the king take away their freedom.
The clocktower was the pinnacle of magic in all the land. When it was destroyed, everything changed. This was the day 'monsters' were born. The lead scientist G. Sans was the first to receive the repercussions of the king's actions.
The king held you captive as his men took to killing the monsters they had created. You were the only non-magic user in the colony. War ensued, and G was the commander for Ebbot.
For months you fought your way out of the dungeons. It cost you your right arm which you made a suitable replacement for. No one you knew before, recognized you as anything but a traitor.
My attached right arm usually creaks
but somehow now, the sound has disappeared into silence
A stream of light is blocking the symbol of the world,
and so, it starts to break and crumble away
The loud creaking of the unoiled metal joints was silent compared to the cries ahead. The painfully blinding light was disgracefully shielding you from the sight of the tower in the center of town.
I have no tears left to shed, as much as I cry out
So, I scream, with the voice I thought I'd... lost.
In the brief moment that the sunshine let up and cleared your vision, you let out a sharp cry through your scarred throat. G was at the door fending off the soldiers that came for his head.
He glanced over at the sound of your voice. Although you were battle-worn and scarred, you were still the most beautiful creature on the battlefield.
Stupidly enough you were also the only person to come to his aid as you wielded a heavy long sword.
Hey,
I remember, in the past, your everlasting smile
As you patiently taught me everything I would need in life
Like the happy things, and all the things that would bring me sorrow,
And... The fact that I can't die.
Your backs were pressed together keeping the true monsters at bay. Memories from not long ago rung fresh in your minds. You taught him the basics of dueling while he taught you about magic.
For a quick moment, G felt a spark of magic he didn't recognize. It was strong and growing stronger by the minute.
Please, just tell me why
Why has my time halted in its tracks, before I'm ready?
I cannot comprehend this; this strange and agonizing
pain I feel piercing into my heart.
Your hands burned from a flame you could not see, and your chest was warm.
A mirage, fantasy, is all that it would ever be
But I still let myself believe...
Taking a deep breath, you screamed with all the fury inside you as you swung the sword. Everything around you and G faded to grey as a brilliant plume of fire curled around the blade and hilt.
G watched in awe as your soul burned passionately with the magic that was hidden away so long.
Hey,
I remember in the past, that day you smiled at me,
And held me in a close embrace between your arms, so tenderly.
Even in my cold, unfeeling body, with no blood flowing through,
I somehow felt the warmth exuding from you
Just as quickly as the tables turned in your favor, the previous warmth chilled your body like ice.
You didn't see the other soldier sneak in to flank you, but G did and used his body to shield you from the blow.
A furious ball of flames wiped the soldiers off the field in a cloud of ash and cinders.
You dropped to the ground, arms clutching his body tightly.
His face held a tearful smile. His boney hand cupped your cheek as he placed his ring in your shaky palm.
"I'm so proud of you. You were always meant to do great things, and even when I'm gone you can keep doing great things"
"No, G don't talk like that! I can take you to Toriel, she can heal you"
"Y/n, darling-"
"No! I need you! I won't let you die! I-I can't"
G pulled you in for a kiss to silence you.
But by the time I came to realize what happened next,
You were already magnetized, like a clock, inside your head
So, in my frustration, I decided to make a wish instead
For the whole world to stop
His breath stopped and body stilled as his hand fell to his side. You closed his eyes and pressed one last kiss to his forehead before laying him to rest in his bed in the clocktower.
But the truth, that I knew deep down; painfully clear to see
That the world could never stop turning
You stared at the handmade silver band in your hand, the mate to the set already on your finger. Tears burned your already hot face as you looked at what was left of your home. The bodies of your friends and family all scattered across the bloody ground of the once peaceful village.
There was nothing left here. There was nothing to be great for, no one to be great for.
Hey,
I remember, in the past, your everlasting smile
I'll keep that smile for days to come, and remember all those times
All the happy times, and all the times that had brought me sorrow, and...
Somehow, I'm still alive myself, in your place
You ignored the angry shouts as you walked back into the crumbling tower.
Slipping the ring back onto his finger, you climbed into bed beside him. Your memories playing vividly in your mind as you looked upon his still smiling face.
I can't contain the happiness I feel, but not sure why
These drops trickling down from my eyes are they 'tears' I'm meant to cry?
Then I feel, on the other side of this vast, eternal sky,
In time, we'll meet again.
You smiled back as your last tears fell. Lacing your fingers together, you took a deep beath and released all the energy you had left.
A roaring inferno engulfed the tower, trapping you inside.
"I love you G" you whispered to him as the last of the roof caved in.
