The only way I could ship this more was if Alphyne wasn't a thing.

Papyrus does, in canon, appear to look up to Undyne as a mentor and a friend, so him developing a crush on her isn't that far-fetched. Undyne clearly trusts and cares about him a lot, as she says "What did you do to him? What did you DO to him?!" in the neutral run if Papyrus is killed. This shows that she is very caring and protective of the skeleton. And when her house burns down, where does she go? To stay with Alphys, her canon love interest? No! She goes to stay with Papyrus and Sans in Snowdin, which is a lot farther away. While some people might think this is because she hates Hotland, I'm like 99.9% sure Alphys' lab has air conditioning, because how the hell else would Alphys, a presumably cold-blooded monster judging by her lizard-like appearance, not have died of heatstroke by now?

While poor Alphys may be heartbroken, it is shown in canon that she is bisexual as she had a crush on Asgore, so who's to say she couldn't fall for someone else? She and Sans do know each other well and have presumably worked together, so if Alphyne was ever somehow replaced with Undyrus, why not nudge some Salphys in here too, so the lovable otaku lizard isn't left to be forever alone?
