Dust x Reader

Dust's POV

We walk through the fog and a warmer weather begins to emerge. And we step on the dark green, almost black, grass. My old stand sits next to a patch of Echo Flowers. (Y/N) spots them and crouches down to their level.

"Whoa! They're glowing and stuff! Are these only in the Underground?!" They exclaim. They haven't even heard the best part yet.

"Whoa! They're glowing and stuff! Are these only in the Underground?!" The flower imitates (Y/N)'s voice back to them. They were astonished and confused at the same time.

"Yep, they imitate voices they pick up for a short time, like a natural voice recorder." I chuckle at their amazed expression. They still wear my jacket over their shoulders, they still looks small. Cute.

"Can I take one?!" She asks hopefully.

"I don't know, can you?" I joke. Papyrus mouths 'No, no, no' to me but (Y/N) continues it,

"I don't know, can I?" They ask, grinning. Papyrus cringed.

She picks a flower from the bottom of the stem, and looks at me with a silly grin, then Papyrus. Papyrus is giving us a cross look.

"Are you two done?" He said annoyed.

"I don't know, are we?"

Papyrus throws his gloves in the air in defeat, "Sans! What have you done to them?! I thought that we would have found a human with a better sense of humor than your silly japes!"

(Y/N) burst out laughing, and the Echo Flower laughs with them, their melodic laughter echoes through it. Papyrus smiles, and turns around to not show his grinning. I think (Y/N)'s laughter was contagious, because I start laughing with them. In a long time, I've never laughed at something for real in a year. It makes it seem funnier than it was supposed to be.

We calm down and make our way forwards, listening to the echo of the water dripping down from the rocky sky. (Y/N) whispers something to their Echo Flower, and I give them a questioning look. They hold it up after they're finished talking, "What is your favorite part about this place?"

Hmmm," I think.

"Christmas!" Papyrus says excitedly.

"Probably the atmosphere." I answer. I take a flower as we go, through a small field with them. I whisper a question into the Echo Flower, and it repeats back, "Do you miss anyone from the surface?"

"My parents died when I was little and I have no siblings. I just live alone in the outskirts of the city." They said it longingly. "But it's nice to be by yourself sometimes, you don't have to share anything!" They said looked at the bright side quickly.

They whisper into the flower, "What will you do one you get to the surface?"

Oh, that's a good question. What will I do? What would I do? I would be free then.

"Where would you go?" The flower asks me.

"Well, I don't actually know. After all this time, I thought I would know."

"You could stay with me for a bit, you don't seem so bad." They smiled at me, and I smile back, liking the idea.

"What about 'don't have to share'?" I joke.

"As long as you're not eating all my ice cream," They whisper into the Echo Flower. "Then we're good." I pick one more flower, and mumbled something into it. They grow curious. "What'd you say?" They asked curiously.

"Something I should save for later." I tuck the flower into my pocket. (Y/N) gives me a look of confusion and I just smirk at them, leaving them with the mystery to themselves.

We'll save this flower.
•••

We stop at a river for a moment to eat one of the cinnabuns, Papyrus declines eating one, he said he probably couldn't eat them anyways. (Y/N) peels parts of it off, then eats those until it's gone.

"Dude, you freaking analyzed it." I joke.

"Dude, you freaking inhaled it." They imitate me. I look at the smirk on (Y/N)'s lips, the mischievous glint in their eyes, the perfect mixture for a 'I'm totally right' look. I sighed defeated. They giggle and look down at the water passing in the river, a light blue glow radiates from it and onto their face.

I suddenly remembered the first time that Frisk looked through the telescope with paint on it, they never had the same reaction after the resets. I think it's still there, "Hey c'mere. I wanna show you something." We walk a little ways before we find it.

"A telescope? Aren't we in a really big cave?" They wonder.

I shrug, "You never know what you'll find." This makes them excited.

(Y/N) looks through and their expression changes to a confused one, they look up at me and Papyrus with a bright red circle around their eye, "Did you prank me or is the lens cap on?"

I try so hard not to smile, "Nope, not a prank. You just gotta face it towards the 'sky'". Papyrus caught on to the joke, but ignored the pun. "Yes, he did prank you (Y/N), it's on your face."

"What?" They brushes their face with their hand, trying to find it. "What's on my-" (Y/N) pulls their hand back to see the red paint. "Dust! I swear!"

I laugh at (Y/N) when they try to get it off, only smearing the bright red across their cheeks. "Darn it, if it's permanent, I will end you." They said angrily, but they were smiling.

(Y/N) walks off, probably going to wash it off with water. "You love her." Papyrus whispers near me.

"Papyrus, do you realize how impossible that is?"

"And what if they are a human?" Papyrus crosses his gloves.

"No it's not that. It's the fact that I've killed everyone here, multiple times. Would you think they would love me? I sure as hell wouldn't even be friends." I mutter.

"Hey, I'm back!" (Y/N)'s voice chimes.

"Oh, good. Let's keep going." I catch a worried glance from Papyrus, but I just pretend I don't see it. We continue on our way towards Hotland.

"So, what is Hotland?" They ask.

"It's an area with lava and narrow walkways, you need to be careful when you go through it." Papyrus warns.  They looked uncomfortable at the sound of lava. Great going Papyrus, you made them scared.

"Don't worry, I can't let you die, remember? I would never let you die," I promise, "Cross my heart—hope to die." (Y/N) rolled eyes at me, smiling.

"Hold on." I stop them with my arm. The area we were going through was pitch black.

"Here," I hold out my hand. "I've been through here a thousand times."

They take my hand and Papyrus goes forward, leaving us alone. I take in the warmth of their hand, and I hold on tight, not wanting to let go.

"Ok, lead the way." (Y/N) says, squeezing my hand in response.

We step into the darkness, "Hey Dust?" (Y/N) asked.

"Yeah?"

"Are you keeping me alive only because I can get you out of here? What's keeping you from not killing me?"

"What? No, that was my reason at first. But you're my friend. I wouldn't just get out of here myself."

That was my reason at first, so I could get the hell out of here, but now I'm going to keep them alive until we get out alive. Both of us. Now, I need to keep them alive, not because they can get me out of here, but because I do actually love them.

Yeah, I said it.

"Ok, I don't know why I didn't trust you before. I'm sorry." They said softly, almost a whisper.

"No, no. You saw me kill Toriel in front of you. You know I've killed others,"

Second Person POV

"I could kill you right now."

The thought makes your heart skip a beat, and what Dust does next makes your heart jump. As you pass a glowing mushroom. He spins you around so you face him, and pulls you closer. You could see his face serious as it's illuminated by the glow. The red and blue circles of his pupils glow in the darkness.

You two were mere inches apart.

"But do you think I will or would ever hurt you?" He asks in a serious whisper.

Of course you thought that he would've before, but now he was so close to you, and it would never even cross your mind.

"No." You said firmly, but your voice softens. "I would never, you know."

"Good." He lets out a relieved sigh. He is still holding on to your hand, so you squeeze it lightly—reassuring him that that's what you felt.

"Ok," He gives you a smile. "Let's get out of here." You two walk the rest of the darkness, hands not wanting to let go.
•••

You two reach the end of the darkness, but you two still keep your hands enclosed together. Papyrus noticed this and gasped, then giggling like a child, "So what happened in there Sans?"

"Shut up Papyrus!" Dust says, a blue blush spreads across his face.

"Do tell Sans!"

"Let's just keep going." He grumbled, pulling his hoodie more over his head—he was blushing bright blue. You had to admit that you were red-faced as well, so close to him and—

"Hey, this is where Undyne usually is. Where is she?" Papyrus says cautiously. You turn around and a fish woman is about to skewer Dust.

"Dust!-" You were already away from the fish, Dust had teleported you away. He was still there, but he was trying to block the glowing blue spear attack with a sharp bone. Was that his attack?

Dust jumps back, his right eye was flaming purple. "Why did you kill them Sans?! Why are you protecting that human?!" The fish that was probably Undyne growled.

Dust said nothing and continued to attack, bones flew towards Undyne, but she dodged it just barely. She growled at Dust's silence and dashes towards him, spear in hand. Dust summons another sharp bone to his hand.

They clash weapons as they twirl in a battle for who's going to live. Dust attacks, Undyne backs up, viceversa and so on.

Undyne seemed to get bored of this, and she threw Dust off with a kick to his knee. Before Dust or you could react she got to you and pulled you close to her, a sharp spear pushed to your neck.

"Stop!" She yelled. Dust gets up and his eyes widen when he realizes what situation you were in.

He clutches his weapon in his fist, stepping forward. "Let go!" He yelled angrily.

"No! Either you cooperate or they die!" Undyne pushes the point of the spear closer to you. Tears stream down your face as you were stuck there.

Sans looks at you, then Undyne. "Fine." He spat.

Undyne grinned sounding like a police officer, "Hands where I can see them."

Dust drops his weapon and Undyne drops you on the ground suddenly. She did is approaches Dust slowly, "You've been acting so strange. It's almost like you're DETERMINED! But that's impossible. Why'd you kill everyone? Hmm?" She waited for an answer but Dust didn't reply back. "Well, doesn't matter." She raises her spear ready to stab Dust in the chest, killing him.

"No!" You scream.

If though hope was lost, a vine shoots out of the ground and stabs Undyne in the chest, shattering through her soul. She gives out a pained yelp before falling to dust in front of you, only a small flower sits in front of her remains.

Dust rushes over, "Are you alright?!" He asked worriedly. You nod and smile at him even though there are tears still going down your face from the shock. "I'm so sorry, I should've stayed closer to you." He apologized.

"It ok, I'm alive. I didn't reset." You manage to get out, you were so shook up you could barely speak. He holds you at arms length, scanning you to make sure you were ok. He surprisingly pulls you in a hug, his arms wrapped around you. You hug back, it's comforting to know that he really cares about you.

"This is a really nice scene, truly. Should get an Oscar or something." A voice said sarcastically. You turn to see the flower next to you two "But we have better things to do, like break the barrier!" He frantically waved his leaf arms.

"Hey Weed." Dust's eye flared purple.

"Hey Trash Bag." The flower said in a fake happy voice, a creepy expression on his face.

"Who are you?" You ask.

"Ohhhhh howdy! I'm—"

"No one important, let's go." Dust growled and stood up starting to walk away.

"That's very rude considering I just saved your bony ass." The flower said angrily.

"Watch your tone with me, I can rip you to pieces." Dust had an insane grin on his face.

"Can someone tell me what's going on?!" You ask angrily, you hated not knowing what was going on.

"Yeah, Sans." Flower sneered.
•••

You all sat down to talk, the flower, which called himself Flowey—was really Asriel, the dead prince of the Underground. Though he was just a flower now, which he hated. But he did know about the resets, which would be useful to your team.

"So, do I call you Asriel or Flowey?" You ask, fiddling with the hoodie strings on Dust's coat. I should probably give it back. You think.

"Flowey's fine."

"So, why'd you help us? Last time I checked, you only cared about yourself." Dust glared at Flowey.

"Well, Sans. I'm not the only one sick of this time loop hell." Flowey shot back.

"He could come with us." You suggest.

"No. Nope. Not happening." Dust shook his head.

"Why?" You whined.

"Yeah, Sans. Why?" He said imitating you but mocking Dust.

Dust pulls you away from Flowey so that he could not hear the conversation.

"Whatever differences you two have, it's not worth fighting for now." You cross your arms.

"Do you know what he's done? How many people he killed for fun? Just to reset again?" Dust whispers.

"I gave you a chance," You look straight up at his eyes, but he looks away—he knows it's true. "And he's probably feeling the same thing you are, he wants just as bad as you do to get out of this loop." Dust's eyes meet yours.

"This last timeline, we can all leave. And we can all change, and it doesn't have to be the same anymore."

"But—!" He starts.

You take his hand, That shut him up. "It's ok. Trust me."

He looks at you, back at Flowey, then at you again. "Fine." His voice wasn't a whisper anymore. He turns to Flowey, "If you try to do anything to (Y/N), I will rip your petals. O n e. B y. O n e. And enjoy it." His voice is dark and scary to you, but barely even phases Flowey.

*Flowey joins your team!*

"Alrighty! So let's go." Flowey then looks as though he realized something. "I can't go through the rock."

"Well then, we'll just put you in a flowerpot." You say final.

No one argues—just Flowey mumbles something.
•••

You didn't find any flowerpot, but you did find an abandoned mug. It was light blue with white polka dots. It had a chip in the cup and the handle was broken off, but it was good enough.

"That thing? Seriously?" Flowey scoffed.

"Sorry, I couldn't find anything else. But when we get to the surface then I'll get a bigger flower pot, or you can roam around. Whatever." You smiled.

Flowey gets in, his roots just sorta shimmy up the side and dig into the dirt. "Ok let's go." He mumbles.

"Yeah, get comfy." Dust smirked. You glare at Dust, and he looks away.

"Hey, where's Papyrus?" You notice. He's been missing since the Undyne battle.

"Right here!"

Papyrus floats down to you all Flowey stares in horror, "Holy shit! What happened to you?!" Flowey looks at Papyrus up and down, "Or what's left of you...?"

Seems like Flowey could see him too.

"Oh, I died...But!—there are some benefits to being dead, so it's alright!" Papyrus's gloved fingers are now thumbs up, a happy expression sets on his face.

You smile at the cheerfulness of the skeleton. "Oh, well. Let's get a move on, finally." Sans says as he takes the lead, you hold the mug with Flowey in your arms and follow him, and Papyrus floats around you guys in figure eights.

You continue on your way, you and your little team. A big sign saying 'WELCOME TO HOTLAND' in big letters went by, signaling that the place was about to get dangerously hot.

(End of part 2 out of 3)
