Dust x Reader

Second Person POV

When you fell down, it was terrifying. Bone-chilling almost. It was barren when you went through the Ruins, or that's what the sign on the wall said.

The Ruins were completely quiet, but it wasn't a calming quiet, it was a empty, eerie silence. There were piles of what looked like gray sand, or ashes. They scattered in drafts that blew up through the corridor, which was very chilly.

Up ahead you see a little frog looking monster. You weren't afraid of it, it was somewhat cute.

"Hello." Yeah, you were talking to it, but it seemed to be scared of you, or something.

"What are you scared of?" You ask it softly.

The frog just ribbits and hops away frantically, like it saw something. You turn around, half expecting something there to kill you. You walk away, continuing your path. The feeling of being watched was still lingering.
•••

You come to a small house and walk in, I mean there wasn't a door so you couldn't knock. The house vaguely smelled like cinnamon and butterscotch, which was sort of pleasant.

"Hello?!" You call. No answer. You call again, "Is anyone here?!"

You heard a quick shriek and you turn to see what it was. It was coming from a stairway down into a basement. You run down to see what it was. The adrenaline rushes through your head as you realize that this could be dangerous, but someone else was in danger and you had to save.

You dart past a corner to see a goat monster and a skeleton holding a knife.

"Y-you said there was a...t-threat..." The goat monster said in a sad, pained way.

"The threat was...actually...you..." She takes her last breath and she falls apart into dust. Your eyes widen in shock, that was what all the dust piles were—bodies of these creatures.

The skeleton spots you and his eye sockets widen as well, if that was possible. You couldn't move, you were so terrified. He just killed a person in front of you! He starts coming towards you and that's when you start running. You turn the corner you were hiding behind and dash for the house.

You ran for your life, you look back to see if he was following you and he wasn't there. Oh good, I thought—

You run into a object in your way, "Heya." It said. It was the skeleton.

"No..." How'd he get there? "Please don't kill me, please don't kill me, please don't kill me." You mutter over and over as you back up.

He was clearly taller, and you only had fists while he had a knife. You back up to fast and fall backwards, you yelp at the sudden fall. The skeleton looms over you.

"Get up." He twirled the knife in his hand. You get up cautiously. He might as well just kill me now. Why isn't he? "Have you've ever fallen down here before?" He asks, pointing the knife towards you. What does he mean?

"N-no."

"So you're new, huh." He dark expression fades, and the pinprick in his left eye stop glowing. He puts the knife away. You both stare at each other, but you just intensely glare at him.

"Anyways, I'm Sans, but you can call me Dust." He holds out a hand to shake like nothing happened but you back away. "I don't bite." He said. You cautiously shook his hand, quickly pulling back, still afraid. Why was he so chill about the whole thing?

"So, what you doing wandering down here?" He starts walking towards the big door that lead to the outside of this place. You follow the serial killer, for some reason.

"My name is (Y/N). I-I fell down here." You decided to just gather up your courage.

"Now if I remember, in every timeline Tori makes a pie, I went for Snowdin first this time so the area is empty." What was he talking about?

"Timeline?" You ask.

"Oh, yeah you're new to the whole reset thing. But the other human was the one who triggered resets. Now the question is..." He looks at you eerily. "Do you have a reset button now?"

You were so confused.

"Eh, we'll talk about it over pie. Y'know, that's the best way to get pie."

"Killing people?" You asked with sarcasm.

"Exactly."

•••

"So, you're telling me that there's a time loop here in the Underground," You take the last bite of cinnamon butterscotch pie. "And I'm the key to stopping it? Cuz' I fell down here?" You ask, your mouth full of pie.

"Pretty much, I've been stuck in this loop for a year I know what happens, what's gonna happen. Either the human breaks the barrier and sets everyone free, or kills everyone in a genocidal killing. At the end, I wake up on Monday, waiting for the human to come out of the Ruins, waiting for whichever path it took next." Dust sums up.

Wow, that does sound depressing. "What happened to the other human?" You ask.

Dust shrugs.

"Wait, so why did you start killing the monsters here?"

"I just wanted a change, I tried changing it with small words, but that didn't do anything. This, is a much better plan for revenge, I mean do you know how many time the human killed my brother?"

"I guess it would be depressing to be in the same day—every day. But you killed your own brother?"

"Well, he's still here,"

"Like in spirit?"

"No, can't you see him?" Dust points to the air. You tilt your head in confusion.

"U-uh, Dust he's not there."

"Everyone always says that Papyrus, it's no big deal. I'm just special or somethin'."

Was he hallucinating Papyrus? You felt inclined to get out of there. "Well, it's good knowing you won't kill me and all but I gotta go." You sit up getting ready to GTFO.

"Wait!"

You turn around.

"I need to keep you alive so there aren't any more resets."

"Ok... I won't die...?"

"You're coming with me." He said it like it was a final decision.

"What? No I'm not." You we're not going with him anywhere. It was good knowing he wants to keep you safe, but he was a serial killer. Do you think that you would? No!

"Yes, you are and I you don't I'll-"

"You'll what?" You were surprised you said that, and then gave him a smug grin. He won't hurt you if he wants to get out of the loop. He opens his mouth to say something but nothing comes out.

"Huh. Well," He walks closer to you, so close, that he's looking straight down at you.

"What are yo-" You shriek as Dust lifts you easily off the ground, carrying you bridal style. "Let go of me!" You yelled angrily, trying to pry him away.

Dust just laughed at your expression, "Nope." You cross your arms in denial. "Y'know, you are very light. Either you're light or I'm strong." He said.

"Oh you...strong...idiot..." You mumbled.

He chuckled softly at what you said. He start going down the stairs and turns through the corridor. You never really noticed, but the pinpricks in his eyes are one red and one red and blue. "Oh, shut up Papyrus." His face turn a slight blue tint. You wondered what they were talking about—or what he was talking about.

"What're you guys talking about?" You ask as Dust steps into the snow, and a chilly breeze makes you shiver.

"Nothing!" He says hastily. Hmmm...suspicious...

You close your eyes for a split second and you start to fall asleep, you know you shouldn't when you're in this guy's hands, but he said he would protect you, and you believed him.

He was going to, right?
•••

Dust's POV

"Aww...Sans do you have a crush on little (Y/N)? Papyrus snickers.

"Oh, shut up Papyrus!" I feel my face heat up.

We get through the door to the Ruins and I hear (Y/N), "What're you guys talking about?"

"Nothing." I say quickly.

Their eyelids fall, indicating they are asleep. (Y/N) looks so peaceful when she sleeps.

"You two sound like the perfect couple." Papyrus giggles.

"You sound like a bonehead." I mumbled mockingly.

Papyrus just hums, satisfied with my reaction—and floats in front of me, his gloves following his scarfed skull.

He glances back every now and then to make sure we're still following him in the snow. I look down at sleeping (Y/N). I notice they're shivering and I let go of them, letting my magic hold them. I slip off my jacket and wrap it around (Y/N), and then slowly taking them back in my arms to not wake them.

They look smaller in my jacket. I think. I catch Papyrus looking back at us and smiling. He turns away quickly but I can tell he's just fanboying over it.

(Y/N) snuggles into my jacket, probably feeling warmer. I don't mind, I don't really care about cold weather as much. Soon we'll be in Snowdin, and I can steal some cinnabuns from the store. They are very steal-able.

I believe we just have to get through the Underground without resetting to "win" the game. I've killed everyone that poses as a threat to them, except Undyne and a few escapees that ran away, but they don't matter right now. I just need (Y/N) safe in this moment.

The sign for Snowdin appears through the heavily falling snow. Probably best to get a human out of the snow. I walked past the store, I can do that afterwards. Stopping at me and Papyrus's house, I open the door and Papyrus floats in, happy to get out of the cold.

I set (Y/N) down on the couch and pull a blanket over them, giving them one last glance before I got get some cinnabuns for the road. Papyrus looked like he was staying with (Y/N) so I just let him. They'll probably wake up before I come back.
•••

Second Person POV

You wake up to a face hovering over you, which makes you jump. But you hit your head on the other person's head, hurting yourself. "Owww... Who are you?" You look at a confusing monster. He was a skeleton but he only had hands and a skull. Where his scarf sat—you don't know.

"Me?" He rubs his skull. "Ow, Human, next time I will be more careful."

"My name is (Y/N)."

"I know! I've been following you!" What kind of low class stalker was this? "I'm Papyrus!"

Wait, Papyrus? Didn't Sans kill his brother?

"I thought you were dead though—Dust was just hallucinating you." Are you hallucinating him too?

"Well, I sort of just haunt Sans—or Dust as he gave himself a nickname—I am dead but alive at the same time if that makes sense?" He continues, "I like to make myself invisible to everyone except Dust. But you're an exception I guess! You'll get us out of here forever!" He laughs.

"O-oh. Well thank you, I feel honored." You says calmly.

"Nyeh-heh-heh!"

Awkward silence lingers.

"So, let's talk, before Dust comes back." Papyrus says.

"About what?" You ask.

Papyrus taps his chin like he's thinking, a grin emerges from his scarf, "What do you think about Dust?"

You blushed. You've read too much fanfic to not, not know where this was going. "I-uh-I don't know, I thought he would just kill me right there at the Ruins, but he didn't and hasn't. But I know it's just because I'm the reason he's going to get out of the time loop, but he's been probably trapped and trying to get out forever, I'm just glad I'm gonna help him. You know?"

Papyrus nods as the door opens from the outside, "Heya, they awake?" He spots you faced toward Papyrus. "Can you see him now?" You nod. "Good, I got snacks and we can leave, forever." His mismatched eyes seemed to be happy and excited.

"Ok! Let's go." You get up and you three leave the final time. You start to walk away but Dust still looks at the house.

"Y'know, I thought that I would gladly leave this place if I could—for good, but now I think I'm gonna miss the place."

"You don't ever have to say goodbye to things that we have in our mind, they're there forever." You say.

"Exactly!" Papyrus chimes.

Dust hums in agreement, smiling, he turns to the house, "See ya'." He turns away, not looking back, as he's mesmerized everything about it. He didn't need to look at it to remember or enjoy it. He saw everything in the little slideshow in his mind, when he left there would be more memories trying replacing them, but he'll always remember.

You don't speak as they made their way through the fog to Waterfall in comfortable silence.
