Six Resets
Seneca knew exactly what she was doing, up here on Mt. Ebbot. The place of many disappearances. One of horror stories, of the creatures that exist underneath it. Creatures and monsters that could tear you apart, eat you, bring you back to life, and repeat. So many terrible stories.
Seneca, though, just didn't care enough. She was going down there to prove them wrong, that nothing existed down there, and their ancestors were lying. No monsters, no danger, nothing. She also aimed to seek out the valuable jewels, as they were also rumoured to exist. That was not something she was very sure about, but may as well do two things at once.
She tied a rope tightly around her waist, then the end to a strong tree. Slowly, she descended to the patch of flowers. Unfortunately, Seneca misjudged that her rope would be able to hold her weight, regardless of how light it was. So, it snapped, and she had less than a second to respond before she fell down. Surprisingly. . .she was not hurt or injured in the slightest. The golden flowers, in a form of a miracle, saved her.
"O. . .k. .that's not what I expected. . ."
She stood up, a little wobbly, as she was still quite confused, then looked around. Her hand went to her hip while the other shielded her eyes, looking up above her with her head tilted. No way of getting back up. Great. She was stuck down there now. Returning to looking back down around her, she noticed a hallway. A little suspicious, but sure, most caverns had such things. She'd been in a few.
So she went through the hallway, then stopped halfway into it, noticing both her eyes and her glasses needed to adjust. So, the girl waited a few minutes to be able to see, them continued the rest of the way, finally coming to what looked like an old door. Oh. .fun. Great. So this place was quite obviously inhabited.
She stepped through the door and took about 5 more steps, before she was caught off guard by something. Something odd and weird, but also quite fascinating. Talking animal, complete with anatomy and everything. Peculiar.
"Howdy! I'm TEMMIE! Temmie, the Tem!"
A voice, too? Well, it seemed he had something to say, so Seneca kept quiet and let her speak. She needed to find out whatever she could.
"Hm. . .You're new to the Underground, aren'tcha? Golly, you must be so confused. Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do! Ready? Here we go!"
After she said that, her vision went dark, and she was unable to see much. Then it came back with only Temmie, and a small black heart seemingly floating in thin air. Her, what she assumed were stats, shown her name, level, and hp. Growing up with video games certainly helped determine acronyms.
"See that heart? That is your SOUL. The very culmination of your being! Your SOUL starts off weak, but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV. What's LV? Why, LOVE, of course! You want some LOVE, don't you? Don't worry, I'll share some with you! Down here, LOVE is shared through. . ."
While she was still processing everything she said before, she took out five pellets of white. .stuff. Maybe some kind of dog or cat related thing? The girl wasn't sure what species Temmie was, but it didn't seem like either. Seneca moved her SOUL around some with a little bit of trouble, considering she'd never done it before.
"Little white. . .'friendliness pellets'."
Ah. She didn't believe her. But sure.
"Are you ready? Move around! Get as many as you can!"
The 'pellets' started to move toward her SOUL. Seneca didn't know enough of how to control her soul to have much of a say in it hitting her or not. So, it did, and she got severely damaged. Even falling to the ground while holding her chest. A quick glance to her stats shown that she was at 1 HP instead of 7. Oh fuck.
Temmie got a malicious smirk and began laughing.
"You idiot. . ."
"In this world, it's kill or BE killed. Why would ANYONE pass up an opportunity like this?"
She then created a circle of the objects around her, since she knew she was too wounded to fight back or run. Seneca was resigned to her fate. She wasn't too hopeful of being rescued.
"DIE."
She laughed again. The circle became smaller and smaller.
Then, it stopped. Temmie gave a scream and presumably ran off, she didn't see, as next thing she knew she was gazing upwards at a half-dude half-goat thing. Her health was also back up to full. Not that it would do her much good.
"What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth."
Seneca didn't know how to respond to that.
When the man reached down to help her, Seneca shrunk back, untrusting of her now. Temmie was nice and screwed her over, so why wouldn't he? The man noticed this and gave a soft smile.
"Ah, do not be afraid, my child. I am ASGORE, caretaker of the Ruins. I pass through this place every day to see if anyone has fallen down. You are the first human to come down here in a long time. Come! I will guide you through the catacombs."
Still untrusting, but even more untrusting of being unable to see Temmie, Seneca agreed and quickly stood up to follow Asgore. Better than waiting for her death warrant.
"This way."
Asgore headed towards a door adjacent to the one she went through before, to exit the hallway, with the girl following close behind. It lead to a room of purple walls, ceiling, floor. . Everything was purple except the red flowers, or leaves, scattered on a strange pattern on the floor. She also saw a bright yellow four-pointed star near the parted staircase. Getting near it made it open a dialogue box which read:
'The shadow of the Ruins looms above, filling you with determination.'
She then had the chance to save game (weird) or exit (also weird). She chose to just exit and continue on.
After many, many puzzles, fights, and unnecessary annoyance, she made it to the door. Asgore blocked the way. Only way out of it was, of course, to fight. Fun. But Asgore seemed to see a hint of something in her eyes that made him hesitant to fight. She wasn't entirely sure as to why. But it made for an easy win, and a more heartbreaking goodbye, as the goat dude knew exactly what was going to happen to her. This was not the first time this has happened.
Seneca walked down a long, long hallway, to then reach Temmie again. She didn't seem very happy, or angry, or surprised. The girl didn't know what to think of it until Temmie spoke up.
"Every single time. Every single time you do the same things. And every time you neglect the most important one. Why do you never stop?"
Seneca, confused but not wanting to ask, simply stayed quiet. And when that didn't work, she sidestepped around Temmie, wanting to move on and forget it ever happened. While she walked away, the animal. . .thing, gave a glare to her.
"And each time, you never give an answer."
Seneca excited the Ruins, then was immediately hit with a cold chill, as the door shut behind her and left her in the freezing cold. Snow everywhere, trees covering everything but a path. She had no choice but to follow it. And it took a few minutes for her to hear the footsteps of someone, or something, else, along with the breaking of a stick.
And a minute later she came to a standstill at a bridge. It was wide enough for her to fit, she knew it was wide enough to fit, and she was about to go through, but footsteps caught her off guard and made her freeze in place. Oh for the love of everything, she couldn't catch a goddamn break.
"Human. . ."
A somewhat high pitched, yet still soft and gravely voice, whispered to her from behind. She was confused. Very, very confused.
"Don't you know how to greet a new pal? Turn around, and shake my hand."
Seneca was not in the mood for this. She turned around, about ready to stab whoever was behind her, but stopped when she noticed how absolutely massive the veiled person was. That diminished any threats she was about to make. So, instead, she did the thing and shook their hand, earning a sound akin to a whoopee cushion.
"Nyeheheh. . .the old whoopee cushion in the hand trick. It's ALWAYS funny."
True, she did snicker a little, but fart jokes weren't her thing. They weren't as funny as most people claimed. But whatever. What she saw appear was some sort of skeleton dude with an orange jacket, slippers, and a smoke. God she hated smoking. So Seneca was automatically not a fan of him, but she didn't show it too much.
"Anyways, you're a human, right? That's hilarious. I'm Papyrus, Papyrus the skeleton. I'm actually supposed to be on watch for humans right now, but. . .y'know. . .I don't really care about capturing anybody. Now, my brother, Sans. . .he's a human-hunting FANATIC. Hey, actually, I think that's him over there. I have an idea. Go through this gate thingy."
She nodded and did so, even before he got to finish his dialogue. That tipped him off, since he too knew she had done this before. And never changed what she did.
This time, though, she felt no need to hide away. Everything seemed fine to her. Nothing's hurt her since Temmie, so it should be fine. Right? Well, Papyrus wasn't lying about his brother being close-by. She was soon face-to-face with another skeleton. This one just barely taller than her, wearing blue armor and neckerchief, and having wide blue pupils for eyes.
Papyrus, who was in the background, was at a loss for what to do. He'd not seen her do this before, had no way of knowing what would happen now, and was uncertain how Sans would handle it. But he knew his brother. And was confident he'd react in the standard way he usually did.
"A HUMAN!!"
Fast forward, again, to later, her and Sans were meeting up in the pathway leading to Waterfall. Papyrus watched from a tree, wary and confused, and hoping this wouldn't end the way it always did.
Instead of fighting Sans, like he expected to, she. . .flirted?? Sans began to blush furiously and deny everything, like the tsundere he was, despite his reactions saying otherwise. How annoying. The battle was soon ended, with him turning to head home, but Seneca stopped him and kissed his cheek. Which only made his embarrassed, flustered state so much worse. He left, running home while hiding his face, with an expression Papyrus couldn't decipher. He couldn't read what was on her mind.
He went to her and tried to knock her out of her funk, which caused her to look at him with wide eyes.
"I. . .remember. .I remember. . . .everything."
. . .shit.
"Every single time I died. . . .and reset. .and forgot. I'm so stupid. . ."
He patted her back to try and help her feel better. Even if it couldn't. He remembered his first time of realizing this himself. It was traumatic. He hated it. So to figure now, after already making mistakes, was not a good thing. Well, it was good that she remembered. But at the worst time.
"Well. .I should probably get going. . .your brother is expecting me. ."
He nodded, letting her walk off to do whatever. He trusted her enough to not hurt Sans. Even if it was a stupid idea. He had no other choice.
So they met up at his house, and had their date. She knew that with her changing so much, his dialogue and pattern of behaviour would be different. And indeed it was. Instead of turning her away, he accepted her feelings and quietly confessed his own, which made Seneca blush herself. How embarrassing.

(This is long. I know it's long. But I wanted to both make sure stuff was accurate, and build up story. Deal with it. I get creative and descriptive.)
