Last Chance Taken [Grillby x Sans]

"Come on, e-everyone, we need to get s-somewhere safe!" Dr. Alphys called. She ushered monsters through the Capital. Grillby was one of them, wanting to check up on his daughter, Fuku, and her roommate and best friend, Olivia. The genocidal human was killing everyone, and Alphys was determined to not let anyone else get hurt. "K-king Asgore has got this under control," she told the concerned citizens as she led them away.
Grillby hugged Fuku. "When I'm not there, I don't want you leaving Olivia's side, okay? You have to stay together," he told her. Fuku hugged him back tightly, sniffling a bit out of fear. "Okay Dad," she said quietly. Olivia hugged her too. Grillby knew he had to check something, and squeezed her a bit before letting her go. "I have to check something. I'll meet you up ahead, okay?" he said. Fuku nodded, and Olivia shook his hand. "Take all the time you need, Mr. Grillby," he said. Grillby smiled. "Take good care of her for me until I get back, Olivia."
He broke away from the group and made his way back towards the castle. He knew this was a dangerous path, as it had been where the human was last seen. Grillby knew Sans had broken away from the group as well to fight the human in one last-ditch attempt to get his serving of revenge for the coldhearted murder of his dear little brother, Papyrus, who only wanted to be nice... he only wanted to help... he only... only wanted... to...
Grillby's heart stopped when he saw Sans lying on the ground ahead in the hall, clutching his bleeding stomach. Bloody footprints walked past him and around the corner towards the Throne Room — Sans had failed. Grillby ran forwards and picked him up. "Sans! Sans, please! Are you okay?!" The skeleton looked up at him, that tragic smile still plastered on his face like a depressed clown. "I'm... okay... Grillbz... d-don't... worry... bout me..." His brother's red scarf was tied around his neck, and he put a hand up to it.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry I failed you... I'm sorry I failed the kingdom, I'm sorry I failed Papyrus, I failed everyone... I'm no hero... I'm just... I'm just a smiling trashbag..." Grillby hugged him close, ignoring the blood leaking onto his clothes. He was crying now. "D-don't say that, Sans! You are anything but a f-failure! You are not trash! You are amazing, to m-me and to everyone! You tried your b-best, and that's what m-matters!" Sans put his head on his friend's chest. "Thanks... G-Grillbz..." he mumbled. He was fading fast. Grillby decided to spit out what had always needed to be said.
"L-listen Sans... Before you leave me, I... I j-just wanted to let you know one th-thing..." Sans looked up weakly. "Mm...?" Grillby put his head to the skeleton's skull. "I l-love you, Sans," he said quietly. "I love you so much, I always h-have, and I never g-got to say it until now... I just—I just wanted to tell you... before I lost my chance... you are the l-light in my w-world, you're the o-only one I've ever felt like this ab-bout. P-please, I d-don't want to lose you..." Sans smiled and put a shaky hand up to Grillby's cheek, kissing him on the mouth. It surprised him, but Grillby kissed back.
What felt like hours to the two was really only a few minutes, and the fire elemental wished it would never end. Eventually, they pulled away. "I... I l-love you... too... Grillby..." he said. "You... r-really lit my heart on fire... when we met..." Grillby chuckled through his tears. "Sans, really?" he said. The skeleton's body was slowly turning to dust, but he looked happy. "K-keep my hoodie... and the scarf... safe for me... ok-kay...?" Grillby nodded. "I will, S-Sans. I l-love you so much..." Sans put his head to Grillby's. "I... l-love... you t-too... Grillbz..." He completely turned to dust, leaving his sobbing lover holding his hoodie and Papyrus' scarf, with one final note.
"...t-thanks...f-for...e-every...t-thing..."
