Frenemy [Ink x Error]

Requested by @PumaKittyCat
Sorry if this is bad, I don't know jack shit about either of these two
Error also stutters to represent his glitching because I'm lazy
I am actually guilty of shipping this though

Error sat by himself, gazing out upon the multiverse. He was in sort of a trance. So many different universes out there, all with their own stories, their own characters, their own relationships... but there were too many. He needed to get rid of the unnecessary ones. Of course, there were a few he could visit, but he just literally couldn't destroy — it seemed impossible even if he tried, so he let them be, deciding not to dwell on it.

But any mistakes, or universes/timelines where nothing but suffering existed, they all had to go. He sort of forgot where he has, and started fiddling with his magic, making shapes and silhouettes and all sorts of cool things. He only realized where he was when he heard a voice behind him say "Wow, that looks really cool!" He whipped around to see Ink!Sans standing behind him — his artist-souled "enemy" who wanted to protect all the AUs he was trying to destroy, even the ones that had no purpose to exist in the first place. He rolled his eyes and turned around again. "Hello, I-Ink." he said unenthusiastically.

Ignoring his annoyance, Ink sat down beside the glitchy skeleton and looked out at the multiverse with him, spacing out after a while. Error got used to his company after a few seconds, and they both sat in silence for about a minute, just gazing out upon the AUs and timelines together. There were so many... After a while, Ink got tired of the silence and spoke. "So, what're you doin' out here?" he asked. Error shrugged. "I g-guess I just n-needed a break. Why do you c-care, anyway? I thought we were s-supposed to be e-enemies."

Ink smiled cheerfully. "That's only in battle, dude. Sure, we might... disagree on a lot of things—" Error gave him "the look", and Ink smiled nervously. "...okay, maybe that's an understatement. But my point is, just because we're enemies when we're fighting doesn't mean we can't be friends off the court. Have you ever thought of that before, Error? What it would be like if we were friends?" Error looked down. He had thought of that before, during one of their recent battles, actually.

Ink was really nice to him all the time — even when they were fighting, he didn't trash-talk as much as Error himself did. What would it be like if they just... stopped? And who would win their lifelong disagreement? Would they let AUs be AUs, or unite to destroy every universe in the multiverse? He looked back up, not changing his flat expression. "Actually, I h-have. Mostly about what we would d-do if we just s-stopped fighting completely. I'm n-not giving in, and I d-doubt you are, e-either, but it always c-comes to my mind at the w-weirdest t-times. Who would w-win in the e-end...?"

Ink shrugged. "I don't know, but let's not worry about that. I doubt we're going to stop fighting completely anytime soon. How about, for now, when we're not fighting that is, we try... teaching each other why we do what we do?" Error looked up, a little smile on his face. "That s-sounds c-cool. I'm w-willing to learn if y-you are. Got n-nothing better to d-do. Y-you first." Ink smiled too.

"Well, the reason I fight with such dedication to protect all these universes is because I believe that there's always a chance, even if it takes a long time, for everyone in that universe to be happy. There's always a solution, even if we have to step in. Example, look at Geno Sans from Aftertale. He may be depressed and alone, but if we introduced him to Disbelief Papyrus, maybe they could bond over their losses, and even become like brothers to each other." Error had never thought of that. "M-Maybe. Or m-maybe they would s-shun each other and say y-you're not my b-brother or s-something like that. I g-get that they're s-suffering, but they m-might be a b-bit rude."

Ink sighed. "Yeah. But hey! There are a ton of nearly perfect universes. For example... look at that one." He pointed to an AU in the distance, represented by a sparkling yellow star that looked like a SAVE point. "Siblingt-tale? What about it?" Error asked. Ink smiled brightly. "Haven't you ever been there? Everyone's happy there. They're all on the surface, Chara and Asriel are alive, Toriel and Asgore are together, and they even have another child. You could never want to get rid of that one." Error looked down. "N-No, I wouldn't. B-But look at that one." He pointed to another. "D-Dusttale. E-Everyone is d-dead. It's just nothing but s-suffering. W-Why shouldn't I destroy it?"

Ink looked down this time. He had no counter-argument. "...Dust was just doing what he thought was right... he only wanted to stop the human from killing everything..." Error shook him by the shoulders. "Open your eyesockets, Ink! He's i-insane! He k-killed his own b-brother, n-now he just has a ph-phantom following him that keeps t-telling him to k-kill more. He's a m-madman. The m-multiverse will be b-better off w-without Dusttale." Ink sighed. "I don't know, Error! You have good reasoning and all, but I just don't like seeing AUs destroyed, even the dark or unnecessary ones..." Error looked right into his eyes.

"Maybe th-this will c-convince you."

Ink was about to ask what the glitched skeleton meant before Error tugged him forward by the shoulders and kissed him on the mouth. He seemed content, but Ink's eyes shot open in surprise. After a second, he smiled and kissed back, wrapping his arms around Error's waist. He had no idea kissing his enemy would be so nice. When they let go, Error looked all business, but couldn't mask the blush on his face and the "WHY DID I DO THAT HE'S GOING TO HATE ME" look in his eyesockets. Ink was blushing too. "W-well, I... didn't expect that, to say the least..." Ink stammered. Error smirked. "I b-betcha didn't. So, we g-gonna hang out again later or what?"

Ink smiled. "I'd love that. But... still enemies on-court, right?" Error nodded, a little smile on his face. "G-Gotta stay in character." He winked at no one in particular as Ink smiled again. "I'm gonna go paint something. Catch ya later, Glitch!" he called, running away with his paintbrush on his back. Error smiled brightly as he ran off. "L-Later, Art Boy."
