Chapter 25 - But It Refused!
"Oh, boo hoo. What a shame. You didn't exactly need him anyway. He was a pathetic excuse for a friend. You have me now, and we'll have so much fun." Chara laughed.
"WHAT'S GOING ON OUT HERE?! FRISK! ARE YOU OKAY?! WHERE'S SANS!?" Papyrus shouted, standing on the inside of the house and staring through the large hole. Gaster could be seen standing beside him.
"SANS????" Papyrus shouted. However, he got no answer. When his eyes had fallen on the pile of dust, Papyrus must have understood just exactly what happened.
"SANS!! NO!! MY BROTHER!! SAAANS!!!" Papyrus cried, looking like he wanted to try and run to him. But Gaster held him back with a sad look upon his face.
"I'm sorry Papyrus. You can't go out there... You'll only get hurt."
"BUT MY BROTHER!!!!"
Frisk frowned, looking at the blood stained knife in her hand. She gritted her teeth, as she tightened her grip on it.
"You made me kill him... Again...." She muttered, standing up. "Why...? Why do you always have to keep doing this...? WHY?!" She screamed, as she turned to face Chara. Chara stood, looking quite amused, as she saw Frisk starting to charge for her, with the knife in her hand.
Bringing her arm forward, Chara took a hold of Frisk's soul and flung her back towards a tree. Crying out in pain, Frisk collided with the tree, hard. She fell to the floor in absolute agony, clenching her teeth. Chara sighed, with her arms crossed.
"Well, that's unlike you... Acting out on your emotions, are we? I thought Sans was more the one who did that." Chara laughed. "You would want to kill me, for him? I'm guessing you and me are not so different, if you're willing to try and kill me without remorse."
"Shut up..." Frisk whispered, as tears spilled down her face. "Sans isn't like that... He's smart thinking and he knows what he's doing... He's not like you... I'M not like you..."
Chara continued to cackle, as snow started to fall from the grey sky above. Frisk felt herself shiver, as a tiny snowflake landed on the upside of her fist. Shaking, she felt her tears start to stream down her face.
I need you... More then ever right now... Sans...
.........
you're not alone kiddo...
........
Huh?!
Frisk suddenly found herself, surrounded by nothing but darkness. She wasn't where she just was anymore. She looked around in confusion.
"Where... Where am I?"
"inside your mind." A voice replied. Frisk's eyes widened, as the person who belonged to that voice, came into view before her.
"S-Sans...? What..?"
"listen, don't beat yourself up about what you did. it couldn't be helped." He said, with his hands shoved in his pockets. Frisk opened her mouth to protest.
"But--"
He put his hand up to interrupt her. "let me finish." He said. Putting his hand in his pocket, he grinned. "i'm not leavin' you on your own kiddo. we'll do this, together. i'm not dying like this so easily... like i said, i wouldn't let chara win."
Frisk rose her eyebrows in surprise. "So...?"
He nodded. "let's win this, together." He grinned.
****
The air was dead silent, as Frisk sat on the floor, with her fringe over her eyes. Chara was stepping towards her, starting to look bored.
"Anyway, I'm getting quite sick of this. I only came here to take Sans, but he had to be so difficult. So it looks like I'm just sticking with you again, Frisk. Now get up."
Frisk stayed quiet for a moment, not even looking up towards Chara. Chara narrowed her eyes in annoyance.
"I said, get up!"
"But it refused..." Frisk whispered. Chara rose a brow at her.
"Huh?"
All of a sudden, Frisk looked up in anger. Bringing her arm forward, she managed to grip Chara's soul and send her flying. Chara gasped in surprise. Gritting her teeth in concentration, she managed to stop herself from hitting anything behind her and she softly landed with her feet on the ground. Frisk slowly got off the ground, her fringe back over her eyes.
"Did you really think..." Frisk murmured. "it would be that easy to win, brat?!" Sans' voice boomed, as Frisk looked up looking utterly fierce. Her once green left eye, was now a bright glowing blue. Frisk and Sans' souls were somehow resonating with one another. They were working together as one, within Frisk's body.
"Well, well..." Chara chuckled. "I got to say, this is another huge surprise... Man... Sans... Can't you even die right?!" She raged.
"i told you that i wouldn't just let you get away after everything. and i'm stickin' by my promise. this is one i have to keep!"
"Hmpf..."
"You're not going to win this time, Chara!" Frisk shouted. "you never will win against us. so you might as well stop tryin'!" Sans taunted.
"ENOUGH!!" Chara raged. "FINE! YOU WANT TO PLAY IT THE HARD WAY!? THEN LET'S PLAY!!" She screamed, managing to form several gaster blasters.
"just let me take the lead, kid. i got this."
"I know... I trust you... I love you, Sans." She replied. Chuckling, he replied.
"i love you too, kiddo."
"DIE!!!!!!" Chara screeched, shooting them all at once. Narrowing her eyes, Frisk manage to dodge all the shots, with the help of Sans controlling her body. Chara gritted her teeth in anger, as she formed and shot ten bones at them at once, all different shapes and sizes.
Dodging all of them but a couple, Frisk brought her hands forward and took a hold of the last three. Grinning, she sent them straight back towards Chara.
Seeing the bones coming straight for her, she formed a gaster shield right before her. Luckily for her, none of the bones manage to penetrate the shield.
"hmpf... she is a toughy... but that's not gonna stop me from trying!"
"Looks like you two may require my help." Gaster grinned, appearing besides Frisk. Frisk rose her eyebrows at him.
"G? what about papyrus? are you still keeping him protected?"
"I used one of my powers to put a bubble like shield around the house. He won't be able to get out. Only way of breaking that shield is if I get hurt enough."
"Are you even strong enough to fight?" Frisk's voice spoke. He grinned at her with confidence.
"I'm sure I'll be fine. As you guys have been fighting, I've had quite a lot of time to recover. So I'll be at least of some use to you."
"Don't forget about me!" Flowey screeched, as his head popped up through the floor.
"so, you wanna help us too?"
"I still don't like you!" Flowey told him. "This doesn't mean ANYTHING!"
Sans chuckled.
"yeah, i know" He replied, his voice coming from Frisk's mouth. "now then... let's finish this... once and for all..."
****
"Duck!!" Flowey's voice shouted, as he shot several flower pellets towards Chara. Quickly jumping down, Frisk and Sans had just barely been missed by the pellets as they passed over Frisk's head.
"it's good using your body for this, kiddo. you have a lot more energy than i do."
"Well, I guess NOT being lazy finally pays off, huh?" She giggled back.
Narrowing her eyes, Chara quickly pulled out a knife and deflected each of them as they came at her. Flowey pouted in annoyance.
"You really think that's gonna hurt me!? Ha! Pathetic! Try dodging THIS!" Chara screamed.
Extending her arms out to her sides, she revealed several more blades in each hand. Frisk's eyes widened in shock. Seeing the blades fly towards her, she managed to dodge each one as they came at her, thanks to the help of Sans.
"You can't keep dodging forever!!" Chara shouted. Sans chuckled.
"try me." He taunted. Chara's eye twitched in frustration. Sans laughed again, seeing he was getting to her. "i mean, come on. you have to try harder than that. do you really expect me to just stand here and take it?"
Seeing Frisk dodge the last knife she had thrown, Chara gritted her teeth in annoyance.
"Alright! That's it! Enough messing around!" Chara roared.
Bringing her arm forward, she formed two gaster blasters, right for Frisk. Frisk's eyes widened seeing the shot coming right for her. Appearing right in front of her, Gaster was luckily able to form a gaster shield to protect her.
"It's not going... to hold!" Gaster shouted, seeing that the blast was already starting to crack the shield into pieces.
At that moment, the blast managed to shatter the shield to bits as it went right through it, hit Gaster, and hit Gaster flying into Frisk.
"AGHHH!" Frisk cried, flying backwards and hitting into the tree once again. She saw Gaster fall a few feet away from her and she shuddered in horror. "Gaster! Are you okay?!"
She saw him trying to pick himself off the ground, but every time he tried, he just fell back onto the ground again. She could see Chara slowly advancing on him, with a gaster blaster either side of her.
"STAY AWAY FROM MY DAD!" Sans' voice boomed, as Frisk pointed her hands towards Chara. Forming a gaster blaster in front of her, Sans fired the shot straight for Chara. With minimum effort, Chara fired a shot back towards them.
The blasts collided, fighting against one another to try and destroy the opposition. Sans pushed on hard with his hands, trying to use all the power he could to make his blast get further to Chara. Chara was hardly even trying and the blast was already starting to advance on Frisk.
"This is your chance to surrender you two! Don't make me destroy you!!" Chara screeched. Sans narrowed his eyes in anger.
"i won't let you get away with everything!! i'm not going to let you try and spare us like we're some pawn! i won't ever forgive you for what you made me do!! anyone who comes between me and my brother D E S E R V E S T O B U R N I N H E L L !!!!"Sans roared, pushing his power on even further, to limits he didn't even know he could manage. Chara's eyes widened a little, noticing the blast was now advancing on her once again, getting closer and closer by the second.
"NOW FLOWEY!"
Flowey rose his eyebrows in surprise. Narrowing his eyes, he quickly shot a vine out of the ground towards Chara. Wrapping it around her wrist, he pulled on her arm as hard as he could.
Chara's eyes widened in shock, as her attack was weakened since she was being put off by Flowey. The blast came at her faster than ever and she screamed in horror.
"NOO!!!" Chara's voice sounded like nails scratching on a chalk board, as the blast came right for her and blasted into her. Gasping, Chara felt the wind get knocked right out of her body, as she went flying backwards by a few feet and landing hard on the snowy ground with a thud.
Feeling dazed, Chara stared up at the sky as the snow continued to fall around her. Appearing beside her, Flowey frowned looking down at her. Slowly turning her head, Chara gazed at Flowey.
"A-Asriel....?" She muttered, seeing her old friend's face in the place of Flowey. Flowey didn't reply to her. Instead, he just continued to frown.
Chara led, opening her mouth like she was going to say one final thing. However, before she got the chance, her body suddenly went limp and disappeared into the air. Her soul going through the air, and cracking in half, was the final nail in the coffin. They had finally defeated Chara, once again...
"Ugh... I'm..." Frisk started. "exhausted..." Sans finished, as Frisk collapsed hard onto the ground. She closed her eyes tightly, trying to concentrate on her breathing. Noticing a shadow had overcast her, she opened her eyes to see Gaster standing over her.
"Frisk, listen, you're going to need to get to Alphys' as soon as possible."
"Huh...?"
"Sans' soul... Eventually it won't be able to take being inside your body anymore. The only reason he's still around is because he's clinging onto your body and your soul for dear life." Gaster explained. "Go to Alphys'. Hopefully she should still have it."
"Have what...?" Frisk questioned.
"During this timeline, before I had to go into the void, I successfully created a machine which can actually revive, monster souls. Like, bring their bodies back and successfully restore them. You'll just need some of the dust from his old body." Gaster said, eyeing the dust on the floor beside Frisk. Suddenly Frisk quickly perked up as she nodded.
"Right!"
"You'll need this to put it in." Gaster said, handing her a small flask he just so happened to conveniently have. "Good luck." He smiled.
"T-Thank you!" Frisk quickly said, picking up some of the dust from the floor and scooping it into the flask.
When she was ready, she started running as fast as her legs would take her to get to Alphys' without looking back. She rose her eyebrows in shock, when she noticed that Sans' soul had actually emerged from her chest and started floating in the air.
Narrowing her eyes, she quickly grasped it and held it close. "Not today Sans! We'll make it!" She cried, seeing Alphys' house in the distance. "I'll bring you back! I promise! I won't let you die on me! I won't reset again! I can't deal with all of this again!!"
