Chapter 23 - Don't Think About HER

"i think they're making progress." Sans said proudly, as he Frisk and Papyrus were sitting at the bar, inside Grillby's. It had been a couple of days since Asgore and Toriel's night out, and it seemed the two were already starting to get on a little better.

Frisk smiled over her shoulder, seeing Toriel and Asgore, sitting at one of the tables with Flowey sitting on top of the table. All three of them looked pretty cheerful, almost as if they were a real happy family again.

Of course, Toriel and Asgore had no idea that Flowey was really their dead son, Asriel. But Flowey thought it was probably best not to drop the bombshell on them about it. At least, not yet. After all, they had already gone through a lot.

"I just want them to be okay for now." Flowey had told her.

Frisk beamed to herself happily. When she had first went to find Flowey, she was hoping to somehow help make him a better person. It seemed that it was slightly working, even though he still had him moments of just being downright rude and threatening. But that was just the way he was. Even Sans seemed to come to that realization now, and whenever Flowey spat insults at him, or threatened him with anything, Sans was just able to laugh along and drop it.

She was so happy people were starting to get better around here. Though, it always came back to her, she always wished she could have did the same for Chara. But it just seemed with Chara, that there was no hope for her. No matter what they did, she was always out to get them. She showed no signs of stopping her plan on trying to erase everything from existence. Frisk felt like she and Chara could have been friends, if Chara wasn't so downright insane.

"It's good to hear the king and queen getting on better now." Grillby said, placing a ketchup bottle on the counter for Sans. Sans gave him a thankful smile and nodded.

"IT MAKES ME HAPPY TO SEE THEM NOT RIPPING INTO EACH OTHER ANYMORE. I'M SURE WHEN THEY HAVE FINALLY WORKED EVERY LITTLE THING OUT, THEY'LL BE BACK TOGETHER. HEY, MAYBE WE SHOULD THROW A LITTLE SURPRISE PARTY FOR THEM. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?"

"a surprise party huh?" Sans repeated, as he took the ketchup bottle away from his mouth. "sounds like a cool idea. i haven't had a party in a long time. what about you frisk, what 'cha think? you up for a little celebration party?"

Frisk rose her eyebrows in surprise. Relaxing her face, she nodded and smiled. "Yeah! Sounds good to me!" Frisk agreed.

Later that same day, during sometime in the evening, Frisk was leading her mother, Toriel and her father, Asgore across the front yard of Sans' and Papyrus' house. The two of them were blindfolded and were extremely confused.

"Okay, we're there! You can take off the blindfolds when I say." Frisk grinned, taking both their hands and leading them inside.

"Okay well what's the occasion because I--" Toriel was saying. At that moment, the room that they were standing in, was erupted with voices.

"SURPRISEEEEEE" They all called out, with caused Toriel and Asgore to jump in shock. Frisk giggled.

"You can take them off now!" Frisk chimed. Doing as she said, they both removed the blindfolds from their eyes, to be met with many monster eyes staring back at them. All their good friends were there, like Sans, Papyrus, Mettaton, Alphys, Undyne... And many other monsters that they had come to know when they were living in the underground. Flowey was even happily sitting on the window sill, obviously having a part in this thing too.

"W-What's going on???" Toriel wondered, clearly confused. Sans chuckled.

"well, the kid here, thought of a great plan to try and get you two to sort things out." Sans started to explain, as Frisk came to stand in front of him. He placed his hands on her shoulders as he continued to speak. "she couldn't stand all your arguing. and well, when we thought you two were startin' to get along again, we wanted to throw a little party for you two to hope everything gets better."

"W-Well... This certainly is a surprise..." Asgore stuttered, feeling gobsmacked. His face lit up with a smile, as did Toriel's.

"Oh... I see... This is so nice...! I haven't been to a party in donkeys years!"

"Yeah... I agree, it's been awhile since I've been to any sort of party either." Asgore agreed. Frisk smiled.

"WELL, COME ON! LET'S NOT ALL JUST STAND HERE! LET'S HAVE SOME FUN! WHO WANTS TO PLAY TWISTER?" Papyrus exclaimed, getting into the mood of things. Everyone chuckled, even Papyrus. Frisk felt this was going to be a good night...

****

The party had already gone on for about half an hour. Frisk was starting to get a little thirsty, so just after she finished conversing from one of her monster friends from school, she went to the kitchen to grab a drink.

Jumping in surprise, she saw Sans standing by the fridge, drinking a bottle of ketchup. She hadn't expected him to be in there.

"oh, hey kiddo. you lookin' for somethin'?"

"Y-Yeah... I was just getting a drink.." Frisk smiled, as she went to grab a glass out of one of the cabinets. She placed it under the cold tap to fill her empty glass with water.

"I'm so glad about what we've done... Can you see the way they look at each other now?" Frisk smiled, talking to the tap. Sans grinned.

"i think it's always been there, to be honest. she just wouldn't admit that she still cared, because she was still mad with him."

"Yeah... Hey, Sans.. Can I ask you a question?" Frisk wondered taking a sip of her drink. Sans rose his eyebrows and nodded.

"sure. sup?"

"Do you ever think... Now, this might be a stupid question but... Do you ever think me and you might break up?" Frisk asked. Sans looked at her surprised. Slowly taking the ketchup bottle out of his mouth, he pulled a face.

"i'd like to think not. why?"

"Well, it's just, we've had a really amazing friendship. And I wouldn't like to screw that up... Like with what happened with Toriel and Asgore. Also, I'm still super worried about having to deal with resets and... I'm worried Chara might come back one day and screw everything up."

Frowning, Sans slowly shook his head and walked over to her. He extended his arms out to her and pulled her into a hug.

"listen... i'm sure everythin' is gonna be fine... stop worrying... you and me, are gonna be fine too. i'm sure of it."

"Yeah... I know... I'm sorry... I don't know what I'm thinking..." She sighed. Sans shook his head and smiled down at her.

"don't worry about it kid, it's fine. don't beat yourself up about it." He lightly replied. Smiling, Frisk slightly stood on her tippy-toes to give Sans a kiss.

Just as she was mid-way to reaching Sans mouth, someone let out a small squeak of surprise in the doorway, as they dropped their glass on the floor, which landed with a loud smash. Frisk and Sans' eyes widened. It was Alphys.

"S-Sorry... I-I didn't... I didn't know y-you would be i-in here..." Alphys stammered, obviously shocked by what she had seen. Toriel and Asgore looked over her shoulder in confusion, as did many of the others. Frisk and Sans quickly stood apart. Frisk was utterly blushing like crazy, as Sans was trying to contain his composure. But it was obvious that he was truly uncomfortable.

"What's going on?" Toriel wondered.

"Y-You two...? Are you two...?" Alphys muttered, pointing at the two. Sans and Frisk both shared a look. Turning their heads back towards Alphys and the others, they slowly nodded. Alphys' face lightened up in a huge smile, as she put her hands on both of her cheeks.

"SERIOUSLY?! O-M-G! T-THAT IS SO CUUUUTE!!" Alphys exclaimed. Toriel still stood confused, beside Alphys.

"I don't understand! What's cute?! What's going on?!"

Frisk sighed. She knew there was no way in hiding it. They were all going to find out one way or another, so what was the point in hiding it anymore...

"Mother... What Alphys is talking about... Uhm... Basically... For awhile now, me and Sans have sort of been.... Together..."

"What...?" Toriel looked shocked.

"Y-Yeah! L-Listen, mum... I would have told you earlier but we kind of wanted to keep it a secret for awhile until we were ready to tell ever--" Before Frisk could finish her sentence, Toriel put her hand up to interrupt her. Narrowing her eyes, Toriel walked right across the kitchen and right up to Sans, who gave her a nervous smile.

For a moment, Toriel looked down at him like she did not approve, at all. However, her face slowly broke into a smile.

"Sans, I can't believe you would feel the need to hide this beautiful fact that you are dating my daughter from me. I am perfectly accepting of Frisk's relationships, you know. Especially when they're with a protective... Sans-ational person like yourself." She chuckled. Sans rose his eyebrows at her in surprise.

"r-really?! so.. you're not mad?"

"I have to say, I'm a little frustrated that you could have not told me sooner... But I am willing to drop it, as I know how much you two care about each other. To tell you the truth, I'm not as mad as I could have been, because we all had a small feeling SOMETHING was going on."

"R-Really?!" Frisk stammered. She saw Alphys and Undyne nod behind Toriel. Even Flowey was in the doorway, staring at the two, as he had used his stem to grow super long so he could reach the doorway.

"Of course! They're not idiots!" Flowey cried at Frisk. "It was SO obvious. You didn't even need me to keep it a secret."

Again, Frisk and Sans shared a glance towards each other. Both starting to giggle, the two of the burst into small chuckles of laughter. Even Toriel and Asgore cracked up a little bit, looking at the two together. Frisk sighed.

"I'm sorry we didn't tell you sooner, mum!" Frisk called, bouncing over to her goat mum and giving her a hug. Toriel smiled, looking down at her.

"It's no problem, Frisk. Sans will take good care of you, I'm sure of it. He'll be good to you." Toriel replied softly. Sans nodded.

"you got that right, tori. i'm keepin' an eye socket out for her. i'll protect her, i promise. with my life if i had to."

Frisk rose her eyebrows and turned towards Sans. She heard a few people behind her say "awhhh" as Frisk started to blush. Walking back over to Sans, she hugged him.

"Thanks Sans..." Frisk whispered. Sans nodded.

"heh, no problem kiddo..."

"WELL, I HAVE TO SAY THIS IS QUITE A TURN OF EVENTS! I MEAN, I THOUGHT YOU TWO WERE ACTING SO WEIRD AROUND EACH OTHER! I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED THIS!" Papyrus cried, coming into the kitchen. As Frisk stepped away from Sans, and was no longer hugging him, Papyrus suddenly bounded forward and lifted his brother into the air. "I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU, SANS! I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU AND THE HUMAN SHARED A SPECIAL BOND!" Papyrus said happily, as Sans gave him a smile.

"heh. thanks bro. i can always count on you to be grateful for me." He said, which made Papyrus beam with happiness. Sans continued to laugh, as Frisk happily watched the two of them talking and laughing. However, suddenly she started to frown. She didn't know why, but she felt really weird all of a sudden... What is that...? Something feels wrong...

"alright, this wasn't really about me and frisk anyway" Sans laughed. "so let's continue the party." Sans said, as Papyrus put him down.

"It shouldn't just be about us! You should celebrate with us! After all, nothing makes me more happy to see that you are the one who is with our daughter, and of 'course, we gladly trust you. So come! This won't just be a party for us, but for you two as well!" Asgore exclaimed cheerily. A few people seemed to nod in agreement, as they all started to walk back towards the next room. Sans laughed and looked towards Frisk. Raising his eyebrows, he noticed she was staring into space. She had a really strange look on her face.

"frisk?" Sans questioned, putting his hand on her shoulder. She jumped.

"H-Huh...? O-Oh.. Sorry... I was just.... Thinking..." Frisk mumbled, coming back to earth. Sans gave her a look.

"about...? you look kinda tense."

Frisk shook her head and smiled. "Nothing. Nothing, it's fine. Now come on, let's enjoy the rest of the party, shall we?" Frisk beamed, taking Sans' hands in hers.

"u-uh... yeah, of course." He nodded.

****

As the party continued, Frisk decided she wanted some time to herself for a bit. She sat on the couch in the living room as all the others conversed around her. She turned her attention towards Sans and Papyrus, who seemed like they were having quite a pleasant conversation together. Biting her lip in thought, she continued to stare at the two.

I don't know what that feeling was earlier.... I just... Can't explain it... Hm.... It was probably... It was probably nothing...

However, Frisk felt in a way that she was just being in denial, because she didn't want to face what she felt like was coming. Everything had been going so well so far...

Frisk exhaled and got off of the couch. Making her way across the living room, Frisk came to Sans and gave him a hug.

"Hey... I think I'm gonna go to bed... I'm quite tired to be honest..."

"huh? are you sure, kiddo? it's only been an hour." Sans replied. She nodded, but didn't say anything.

"well... alright, i guess... sleep well, frisk." He said, nuzzling his mouth against her forehead. She managed a small smile.

"T-Thanks..." She muttered, slightly blushing. Departing from Sans, she also saw Toriel and Asgore and decided to go over to them to tell them she was going to bed.

"Thanks so much for this party, young human. We are very grateful." Asgore happily said. Toriel nodded in agreement.

"No, I think you should really be thanking Sans... It was his idea to throw a party for you guys... Well, I suppose I better go... Night!" She waved. Both smiling from ear to ear, they waved back to her, as she put one foot in front of the other to get out of the living room and to Sans' room.

She wasn't exactly a big fan of sleeping in her own room anymore, after everything that had happened during the.last timeline. So she usually ended up staying with Sans. It made her feel a lot safer having him close by...

Sighing and climbing into Sans' bed, she led on her pillow. Seeing Sans' pillow next to her, she took a grasp of it and hugged it close. Because it had a scent of Sans, it made Frisk relax a little. She managed a small smile, as she slowly drifted off to sleep....
