Chapter 17 - Bein' All Nostalgic

"i don't know... i don't really know if anime is really my thing." Sans admitted as he stretched his arms above his head. He and Frisk were standing outside of Alphys' front door, saying their goodbyes after spending two hours watching anime together.

"Y-Yeah... Well, t-that's fair enough. T-Though, if you ever w-want to give it a-another go, let me k-know. There are s-some good animes out t-there that you m-might like." Alphys replied. Sans slowly nodded.

"alright, will do alphys. now, it was nice seeing you. me and the kid better head back now as i think frisk is probably getting tired. as am i. so we'll see you some other time, alright?"

"C-Course! I'd like to s-see you guys again s-soon." Alphys said.

"See you Alphys!" Frisk replied, giving her a hug. Alphys smiled and gave one final wave goodbye, as she shut the lab door. Sans and Frisk turned to each other.

"So, suppose we better go home, huh?" Frisk questioned. Sans nodded, still yawning and stretching.

"yeah... but, i think we'll have to walk to tell you the truth, as i can't really use my powers right now... i never would have thought watching anime would take so much out of you. i'm exhausted."

"Haha. Yeah, well, I guess sitting in front of a TV for two straight hours can make you pretty drowsy... Anyway, walking it is. We should get back before it gets dark."

"yeah..." Sans agreed.

Several minutes later, Frisk and Sans were spending their time walking through the underground. They were just passing by Sans' telescope, when he came to a stop.

"Hm?" Frisk looked at him confused. "What is it?" She wondered.

"huh? oh, nothing. was just bein' all nostalgic... you remember this telescope kiddo? when you looked in it, you had red all around your eye." He chuckled.

"What?!" Frisk cried, a grin across her face. She playfully punched him in the arm. "So that's why you were laughing at me!!"

"whoops, i never told you?" He grinned. "my bad."

"Oh har har." She rolled her eyes, with a smile still across her face. She looked around the room, and stared at the ceiling. Sans looked over to her, and noticed she was admiring the ceiling.

"these stars in the ceiling are pretty cool, ain't they? but these are nothing... i think i prefer ones across from asgore's castle. they're pretty amazing compared to these small ones..." Sans said. Frisk slowly nodded, as a frown formed on her face. She tried to continue smiling, however, she couldn't help but think about what was on her mind. Her feelings. It was bugging her so much, but Sans had no idea.

He must have noticed the strange look on her face, because he turned to her, and started to speak.

"hey, frisk, sup?" He asked. Frisk smiled.

"N-Nothing... I was just thinking... I wonder if I'll manage to be able to help you guys get up to the surface... Stars look great up there too, believe me. I think you'd enjoy it." She grinned. Sans stared at her in surprise. Slowly, he started to shake his head.

"kiddo, i remember when i used to always think about going up to the surface, and what a great idea it seemed like" He frowned. "however, i feel like monsters and humans aren't ever going to get along. look at how people treat you, 'cause you're a human. even me, if i hadn't been told about you beforehand," His tone darkened, as a shadow cast over his eyes. "i would've killed you right where you stood."

Frisk flinched. She knew, when Sans spoke like that, with that dark tone and that empty look in his eyes, he really MEANT what he said... Which, in a way, kind of hurt her feelings... She knew that Sans wouldn't completely trust her in the beginning... But after everything they had went through in the past, she hated that it had to go back to THIS. Gulping, she nodded.

"Y-Yeah... I know..." She muttered. "But I think you're wrong. I mean, sure. There will be some humans that will be fussy about it... But we'll get it to work. I just know it."
Sans stared at her, with his brows raised. His face slowly relaxed and he continued to talk.

"i admire your determination, kid. you may be right about that. but then again, you could also be very, very wrong." He said, as the two of them started to continue walking again.

"I guess but..." She frowned slightly. Once again, the two of them took several more steps, until Sans came to another stop. Frisk sighed and turned to face him. "What is it no-- Oh." Frisk stood, frozen. She noticed that Sans seemed to be staring at something... It was the door... The door that just randomly appeared from time to time in the wall... Behind that door, was Gaster...

Frisk had a feeling that Sans' past was exactly the same, so Sans probably knew what was behind that door... But she didn't want him to have any flashbacks, or remember anything from the past timeline.

"Sans... Come on, can we just get back already?"

"huh? oh... yeah, 'course... i was just... i don't remember this door being here, that's all." Sans muttered, taking his eyes away from the wooden door. Frisk gave him a look of sympathy. She knew Sans was thinking about Gaster.

"Well, okay.. Let's get back. Truthfully, I'm starving. I could do with some food in me to be honest when we get back."

"agreed... alright kiddo. sorry for holding you up. let's go."

Later that night, Frisk was lying in her bed, staring up at her ceiling. She couldn't help but think about THAT door in the underground... Gaster must have been there...

Frisk honestly wondered if Sans would ever tell her about his father again. She wondered if he would ever trust her the way he did again... It was still pretty hard to comprehend how he really felt for her...

Well, how he USED to feel for her. Now, he still had no idea, which made Frisk feel really down. She cared about Sans, and she wanted nothing more than to tell him that. But she was worried if she reminded him anything about the past timeline, he'll remember what he did... What he did to Papyrus, Mettaton... He tried to kill Frisk... If he had ever found out, he probably wouldn't ever be able to forgive himself. And that's not what Frisk wanted. She didn't want him to be mad at himself...

She still had fun with Sans in this timeline... But it just wasn't the same anymore... Before she had never really thought about her feelings for Sans. But now it was all that was on her mind...

She sighed and closed her eyes. She just wanted to go to sleep so she could stop her thoughts bugging her. It annoyed her that she was always thinking before she went to sleep. She wondered if Chara would ever be back during this timeline... Or Flowey...

Flowey... Frisk opened her eyes in wonder. She wondered if it would have been at all possible to befriend Flowey. He could be pretty impossible, and cold. But she understood why. It wasn't entirely his fault... After all, he has to spend his life without a soul. But maybe if he didn't have a soul, she could help him feel again...

Having Flowey around would be a nice company to have around, if he behaved. Since Sans no longer had his memory from the past, she at least wanted to have another familiar face by her side, to help her feel less lonely... She managed a small smile to herself.

I'll go look for him tomorrow.. She thought. I'll convince him...
