Chapter 13 - Let's Save Him, Together
Limping her way to the house, she pounded her fist on the door. "Papyrus!! Papyus! Open up! Please!"
To her shock, the door flung open to reveal Mettaton. At that moment, Mettaton picked her up and brought her inside, a huge smile on his face.
"Darling~! I have returned! I have been wanting to tell you ALL about my trip!"
"There's no time for that!" Frisk cried at him, as he put her down on the ground. "Where is Papyrus?! We need to get out of here, now!" She continued.
"W-What?" Mettaton stuttered confused.
"WHAT IS GOING ON? HUMAN, ARE YOU OKAY? WHERE'S SANS?"
"P-Papyrus... I don't know how to explain this to you but... Your brother... He..."
Before Frisk could explain, a loud explosion erupted throughout the house. The front door had been blown off by a huge blast. All three of them stood horrified, as Sans came in through the hole in the wall which he had created with one of his gaster blasters.
"Sans... Please... If you're in there, you have to listen to me! You have to! This isn't you! Fight against Chara! Please!" She screamed.
Her heart sank, when the look in Sans' eye didn't change at all. He wasn't fazed at all. It was like how Frisk used to be. Chara had complete control.
"YOU TWO, GET OUT OF HERE, NOW!" Frisk screamed at her two friends. They stood, wondering what to do.
"WHAT? SANS? ARE YOU OKAY? WHY DID YOU BREAK THE DOOR DOWN?" Papyrus asked, taking a step around Frisk and standing in front of her. Her eyes widened.
"Papyrus, no!" She shouted, trying to pull him back. Before she could do anything, Sans was already aiming his gaster blaster at the group. She gritted her teeth in horror.
"SANS?" Papyrus' voice shook. All of a sudden, Sans formed several bones in midair, just over his head. Papyrus' eyes widened.
Seeing the bones fly towards Papyrus, Frisk couldn't believe what had happened next. She fell to her knees in dismay.
Mettaton had jumped before Papyrus to try and save him from the bones that could cause fatal injuries. But it didn't matter. Mettaton's mechanical body wasn't enough to stop them from getting through to Papyrus. Papyrus fell back in shock, as he looked hurt and betrayed by his own brother. He fell to the floor, staring up at Sans.
"S-SANS...? THIS ISN'T LIKE... YOU... SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG... I KNOW THIS ISN'T YOU... SANS..." His voice soon faded to nothingness, just like his body, which ended up falling to dust.
Frisk stared in utter disbelief at what had just happened. She failed at protecting her two friends. Sans turned his attention towards her. For a moment, Frisk could have sworn she saw a strange look cross his face. She knew he was trying to fight against her.
"you know where to find me. i'll be waiting for you there" Their voices said in sync."we'll end all of this there... there won't be any stupid 'resets'."
Sans casually left, as if this was just some walk in the park. Frisk wasn't mad at him though.. She was mad at the very monster that took his place. Chara... To think that she even thought of giving her any mercy... Chara wasn't capable of mercy... She had no feelings... It was just as Sans had said.
Frisk knew exactly where Chara wanted her to go. The judgement hall. The very place where the last timeline had ended and all of this had begun. Frisk had to fix this... She didn't want to just reset in the middle of it, without having the chance to say goodbye to Sans first... She was hoping Sans wouldn't remember any of this. Otherwise he'd never forgive himself.
****
Frisk honestly didn't know how she was going to be able to take on Sans AND Chara at once... And that's when it hit her.
Not only that, but Sans and Chara are headed towards the one place where the human souls have always been kept to remain safe, so no one could use them for selfish deeds and evil. How was she expecting to take on THAT?
Sure, she took on Flowey all by herself but then she had the help of the human souls... She rose her eyebrows in thought. Flowey!
Frisk looked around frantically, as she noticed she was in an area in the underground she remembered, very well. Spurting from the ground, big long vines suddenly came for her and wrapped around her ankles. Her eyes widened, as she felt herself get lifted off the ground and dangled upside down.
"Well, well, well! What do we have here?!" She heard Flowey's voice screech. She rose her eyebrows, seeing his head pop out from the leaves below. "What brings you back here, Frisk? You looking to get killed by me?!"
"N-No!" Frisk cried. "I... I actually need your help!" She replied. Flowey looked surprised, but then went back to looking smug.
"MY help?! Pssh! Why would I help a pathetic little brat like you?" He wondered. Frisk thought for a moment.
"Because... If you don't, anything you've ever known is over... It's Chara.. She's taken Sans..."
"Sans? You mean smiley trashbag? Him? Smh..." He tried to continue to look as if he was uninterested, but then continued to talk. "What exactly do you expect me to do?"
"Well... Can you put me down first?" She wondered. He narrowed his eyes for a moment, but then sighed.
"Fine. Whatever." He replied, carefully turning her back around and putting her down. She smiled.
"Thanks."
"Can you just shut up and get to the point already?!" He snapped.
"O-Oh, right! Well, I need to somehow be able to get Chara's soul away from Sans' soul."
"So?"
"Well, I know a way to do that. But I'm gonna need your help too. Follow me."
"Alright... Fine..." He mumbled.
****
"So what exactly do you expect to do?" Flowey asked, as they were outside a weird looking door in the underground. Frisk stood, hesitant.
"Well, I always remembered this door being here, but I never wanted to go in there... I always got this weird vibe off of it."
"That still doesn't answer my question!" He fumed, clearly frustrated.
"I'm going to see if I can bring Sans' father back. Aka, W.D Gaster. Apparently he might know how to bring Sans back. And we could do with the extra muscle. It's the best I've got." She replied, putting her hand on the door. Sighing, she mumbled to herself. "Here goes nothing..." And pushed it open.
Suddenly feeling overwhelmed with negative energy, she clenched her fists and carefully stood her ground. Holding her breath, she started to take several steps inside, as Flowey stayed outside of the dark room.
"Yeah, I'll just be out here!" She heard him call after her.
Frisk managed a small crooked smile over her shoulder at her flowery... Er... Frienemy...? She looked back in front of her, trying to see through the dark room. As she took a couple more of hesitant steps inwards, the room started to lighten up a little.
Standing in the middle of the room, she could see a distorted figure.
"🕈☟⚐ ✋💧 ❄☟✌❄✍ 🕈☟✌❄ 👎⚐ ✡⚐🕆 🕈✌☠❄✍"
Frisk frowned, hearing the figure in front of her talk. But they sounded like they were talking in some made up language. Frisk had absolutely NO idea what they were saying.
"Uh, excuse me! Is your name W.D Gaster?" She attempted to ask. However, the figure just stared back at her as if she had three heads. Did he not understand her? She tried again.
"Are you W.D Gaster?" She asked. Again, the figure tilted his head to the side, as if he was trying to decipher what she said.
"✌💣 ✋📬📬📬✍ ✌💣 ✋ 👎📬🕈 ☝✌💧❄☜☼📬📬📬✍ ✌💣📬📬📬✌💣 ✋📬📬📬✍... Am... ✋... ☝as⧫♏❒...?" The figure seemed confused and seemed as if it didn't know how to speak properly. He kept switching between trying to talk in English to talking in... Whatever he was speaking.
"Listen, I need your help! Please! Tell me you can at least understand what I'm saying!"
"I don't know what good it'll do!" Flowey called from outside. "He's been in this dark room for as long as anyone could remember. He probably won't even be willing to help us."
Frisk frowned. She was determined to try and get him on their side. They needed him, Sans' father, Gaster, to help. Otherwise all hope was lost.
"Please!" She cried, stepping forward. The figure flinched and narrowed his dark eyes. Bringing his dark cloaked arm forward, he took a hold of Frisk's soul and her eyes widened as she felt slightly startled. "Listen to me!" She shouted at him. "I need your help. WE need your help! It's your son!" She screamed.
The person standing before her faltered. He stared at her with a look of disbelief. Slowly, he lowered his arm, and Frisk felt herself being put to the ground. She gave him a small smile of gratitude, but he continued to stare at her. It was evident enough that she had understood what he said.
"Can you speak?" She wondered with a frown. Gaster made a face as if it would take a lot of concentration. There was a short pause, until the silence was finally broken.
"Y-Yes... Yes... I... I can... I can talk... What... What did you just.. say?" Gaster tried. He kept taking a lot of pauses. It was either that he was so shocked by what she said, or he hadn't spoken to anyone in a long, LONG time. Maybe it was a bit of both.
"I said it's about your son. Sans. I heard you two weren't on really... great... terms..." Frisk bit her lip. "And I can kind of understand why..." She sighed. "But I'm willing to put the past behind me for now to save Sans and everyone. Well, everyone who is left, anyway...."
"What... What has happened to my son?" Gaster questioned. Truthfully, Gaster's voice had a bit of an eerie sound to it. But Frisk couldn't tell if it was because of the atmosphere of the room, or if he truly was just... Spooky... However, she was willing to try and ignore it and be brave. For the sake of Sans. She crossed her arms, looking deadly serious.
"He's been taken over by a girl known as Chara. She has possessed his body and has gained control. And I heard that when you were a scientist along my friend Alphys, you were trying to find out things to do with monster and human souls. I guess your.... Experiments on Sans was to try and find more useful information...." She grimaced. "But anyway, Sans can probably see everything that is going on in there. And I feel terrible for him... You need to help get Chara's soul out of Sans' body, if you can. Please. I'm begging you. Not just for his sake. Not just for mine. But for everyone's. Overwise anything anyone has ever known is over." Frisk looked over her shoulder once again, to see Flowey waiting outside through the open doorway. "I'm not saying we'll always have to like each other. Or even be on the same side but... For now we have to. So, what do you say?" She said, turning back towards Gaster. Gaster nodded, as if he didn't even need to think about it.
"I've spent many years... Trapped here in the dark... After everything I had done... I was sent into this dark void alone... All alone... I have to make it up to my son, Sans... And Papyrus... I will help you, child."
Frisk beamed with joy. "Thank you so much! Uh, it's Frisk, by the way." She smiled. Gaster actually manage to give her a small smile back. She turned on her heel to face back towards Flowey.
"Looks like we're good to go!" She cheered. "Let's do this!" She chimed enthusiastically, pumping her fist into the air.
