Chapter 4~ Puzzling Puzzles
"Well, I'm bored, who wants to explore?" Willow asked her friends. Azia, Rae, and a few others nodded their heads up and down excitedly while Owl, Convela, and the rest frowned and shook their heads.
"You heard what Toriel said," Convela told Willow. "We have to wait here," she emphasized the words like one would to a little kid. Willow scoffed.
"Well I am not just going to sit around and wait for goat mom to come back," she said, determined. "Who's with me?" Half of the girls cheered while the other half sighed.
When they walked into the next room they saw two directions and a monster waiting for them. Angel slowly approached the monster, a froggit. Suddenly it ribbited, and then it started to talk to her.
"Excuse me human. I some advice for you about monsters. If you ACT a certain way or FIGHT until you almost defeat them... They might not want to battle you anymore. If a monster doesn't want to fight you, please... Use some MERCY, human."
Then it ribbited again. Angel looked around and saw no one was around her. She looked around nervously, before they came out of the door in front of her, and she sighed. Azia came out last with two hands full of candy.
"Azia! You don't need that much sweets!" Convela exclaimed, annoyed.
"Well, when you ship someone with multiple people, you need all the fuel you can get," Azia said calmly, putting all the candy in her pockets.
"Well, if you have that much candy, give Angel some," Convela sighs, motioning to Angel, who just looked plain confused.
"Fine, whatever, let's go!" Lissy spoke quickly as they all began to continue on, walking deeper into the RUINS. Almost immediately the girls were faced with a puzzle.
They all walked forward and fell down into a bed of red leaves. "Ow! Why did we fall again!" Rae complained as the girls walked into a doorway on the right. They ended up on the other side of the unstable floor.
Convela took a quick glance back before they continued on. Not even two seconds after one of the girls' phones were ringing. It was Toriel.
"Should I pick it up?" Owl questioned, staring at her phone.
"Sure, why not?" Phebs responded, surveying the next room. Owl gave a small nod before answering it and putting it on speaker phone.
"For no reason in particular, which do you prefer?" Toriel asked before Owl could even say hi. "Cinnamon or Butterscotch?"
There were a chores of mixed answers but Toriel ended up hearing them say butterscotch. "Oh I see, thank you very much." She hung up.
"That's kind of rude...." Pix muttered. "She didn't even say goodbye."
"Whatever," Rose flippantly said. "There's another puzzle up ahead."
The girls all walked forward taking a closer expectation of the new puzzle. It looked pretty simple. All they had to do was push the rock onto the button and the spikes went down. Without looking back they all quickly rushed into the next room.
Suddenly another one of their phones rang again. Toriel was calling. Convela picked it up, putting it one speaker phone so the others could hear.
"Hello? You do not have any allergies do you?" Toriel asked.
"Why are you asking?" Angel questioned into the phone.
"Huh? Why am I asking? No reason...no reason at all." Then, she hung up before they could giver her an answer for her question before.
"Weird," Azia muttered as they all wandered into the next room. Before them was another puzzle with unstable floor.
"How are we going to do this?" Lissy demanded.
"Um..." Owl looked at the floor. "Just go for it." She walked forward falling down.
"Owl!" the others screamed looking down the small hole she fell through.
"Don't worry! I landed on some leaves. I'm fine!" Owl reassured the others. "But I think I know how to get past this puzzle, give me a second to get up!" Owl quickly went through a doorway leading back up to her friends. "Here, make sure you follow my every step."
Without any mess ups, Owl lead the girls past the puzzle. "How did you know what to do?" Phebs asked. Owl grinned triumphantly.
"It was easy, when I fell I noticed a pattern in the walk way. Taking a wild guess I guided you using the same path."
"So in a way it was pure luck?" Willow guessed.
"Sort of, yeah," Owl replied as they walked into the next room. Again, they encountered another puzzle.
"Hey look, it's super easy!" Rae said pushing two of the rocks onto a button. "It's just like the other one from before. Quick, one of you guys push that rock on the button so we can get past those spikes." She motioned to a row of dangerously sharp spikes in their way. Angel nodded reaching out to push the rock. It wouldn't budge.
"WHOA there, pardner!" the rock exclaimed, gaining a few confused glances from the girls. "Who said you could push me around?"
"Sorry, mister rock," Convela apologized. "Can you please move over so we can get by?"
"HMM? So you're ASKIN' me to move over? Okay, just for you, pumpkin," The rock said to Convela. Convela turned to her friends with an expression that read, 'The rock just flirted with me.' The other girls chuckled as the rock moved one step forward.
"Um, excuse me mister rock," Convela tried again. "Could you please move some more?"
"HMM?" the rock demanded. "You want me to move some more? Alrighty, how's this?" The rock moves to the side.
"Can you please move back over?" Convela's voice was laced with annoyance. She was quickly growing tired of this rocks antics while the other girls stood behind her giggling away.
"Hmm? So that was the wrong direction? Okay, I think I got it," the rock moved onto the button and Convela let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank you," she muttered walking to lowered spikes. Just as she was about to step on by where they once stood, the spikes rose again. Convela let out a yelp, glaring at the rock who had moved one step off the button.
"HMM? You wanted me to STAY there? Your giving me a real workout," the rock said moving back on the button. "Aren't things easier when you just ask?" Convela carefully walked over to the lowered spikes, running over there in case the rock moved again. Doubling over with laughter, her friends caught up to her.
"I now ship Convela and that rock!" Fairy announced causing her friends, besides Convela, to laugh again.
"That rock was about the most irritating and moronic thing I have ever come across," Convela mutters, ignoring the other girls completely.
In the next room there was no puzzle, but a mouse hole and a table with cheese on it. But the same soft spoken voice form before spoke in their heads once again.
*(Knowing the mouse might one day leave its hole and get the cheese...It fills out with Determination)
They girls all exchanged some looks, wondering if they all heard the voice to. "Let's just leave this room," Willow said. Everyone nodded scurrying out of the small room like a mouse.
They next room had to puzzle like the one they just exited. Inside a ghost laid in there path. He seemed to be sleeping.
"zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..." he mumbled in his sleep. "zzzzzzzz...are they gone yet...zzzzzzzzzzz..."
The girls frown seeing him say 'z' loudly obviously pretending to sleeping at this point.
"Should we just move him out of the way?" Willow whispered to her sister. Owl shook her head.
"No let's take a kinder route-" she was cut off by Willow yelling at the ghost to wake up. The world faded to black and the girls Souls appeared in front of them.
"Oh, come on!" Rose silently whined.
"What should we do?" Rae demanded. "Kill it?!"
"No!" Convela, Owl, and Angel spoke at the same time.
"One of us should try um, flirting with him!" Owl suggested. Lissy sighed taking a step forward telling the ghost some really cheesy pick up line.
".....I'd just weigh you down," he replied in a depressed tone. He started crying and the tears came falling down at the girls Souls. Knowing they would hurt them they all dodged moving out of the crying ghost's way. The ghost just continued to stare into the distance not even bothered by the fact his attack failed.
"We should try sparing him," Angel said, remembering the words of the Froggit she encountered earlier. Phebs nodded and tried to spare the monster. He just sighed and sent out his next attack....a sign that read, 'Really not feeling up to it right now. Sorry.'
"Let's try cheering him up!" Convela suggested. Rose nodded stepping up.
"Hey, it's okay," she said. "I bet your attacks are pretty neat!" Nabstablook looked just a little bit better and he cried again.
"Try it again!" Convela shouted, dodging the tears. Pix told him a joke. He gave her a small smile, chuckling softly. During his next attack he started crying less.
"...Let me try..." Nabstablook murmured as he began crying again. Except this time his tears flew up created a hat. "I call it 'dapper blook'," he told them. "Do you like it?"
"Cool!" Owl said as they others gave him some mummers in agreement.
"..Oh gee..." he said as the world faded back to it's original colors. "..I usually come to the Ruins because there' nobody around...but today I meet some nice people..." he went quiet for a second. "...oh, I'm rambling again..... I'll get out of your way...." And with that he disappeared, clearing the path for the girls to continue on.
"He was pretty nice," Angel said as they walked by a sign. "Hey check it out. There's a spider bake sale. Made by spiders, for spiders, of spiders!" she read.
"S-spiders!" Fairy exclaimed, terrified. "Can we please just skip that?!"
"Come on, let's just go check it out!" Lissy said, already heading over to it. There were two spider webs.
"So do we just leave some money or what...?" Rose trialed off. Convela shrugged, putting some of her money into the web. The other girls did the same. They all got a dounut.
"Okay, now let's continue!" Rae cheered. They walked down a path, careful to avoid the Froggits lurking there. Suddenly one of their phones rang again. Just like before it was Toriel.
"Hello? I just realized that it has been awhile since I have cleaned up. I was not expecting to have company so soon...." Toriel told them. "There are probably a lot of thing lying about here and there. You can pick them up, but do not carry more than you need. Someday you might see something you really like. You will want to leave room in all of our pockets for that." Then she hung up.
"Well that was random," Willow said. Pix nodded.
"Hey look, another puzzle!" Azia said.
"What do we have to do for this one?" Convela wondered, her grey eyes drifting around the room. There were spikes blocking there path and six unstable spots on the ground.
"How about six of us drop down from the ground." Rose suggested. Everyone nodded as Pix, Rose, Lissy, Fairy, Willow, and Rae dropped down.
"I found Nabstablook!" Rae called out.
"....I fell down and a hole...now I can't get up...go on without me...wait, ghosts can fly, can't they...oh well...." he says loud enough for all the others to hear. Then he disappeared into thin air right before Rae's eye.
"Hey look, a lever!" Fairy exclaimed forgetting, about Nabstablook. She pulled it down hearing a small clicking noise. The all walked through a doorway ending back up in the room to see the seeing the door open.
In the next room they came across another sign. It read: 'The far door is not an exit. It simply marks a rotation of perspective.'
"Wonder what that means...." Convela said under her breath as they walked through the door. They ended up in the same room as before, just turned a different way. "Whoa, that's trippy."
"Hey look, a red switch!" Willow said. "I'm going to press it!" Before anyone could get a word out she pressed it with a satisfying clicking noise. The girls looked to see the next door was opened. "Huh, would you look at that."
There was another sign. "If you can read this, press the red switch," Rose read. Angel shrugged walking over to the switch pressing it. Once again the pathway was cleared of any dangers.
"It's the same flipping room!" Owl grunted as they walked through the door only to be greeted with yet again, the same room as before.
"Well this sign is different....." Phebs pointed out. "It says to press the green button."
"Ohh...kay then," Willow said pressing the switch. The spikes blocking the door lowered and the girls progressed.
"Thank Irene!" Pix cried out, gratefully seeing a different room. "We're free from that never ending cycle of rooms!" The room had nothing special, just a few blushes and leaves.
"Yo, look!" Angel exclaimed from a different room. Immediately all the girls ran to her side, their eyes widening at the sight of Angel's discovery. A toy knife. Not too sharp, but definitely able to kill someone if you put your mind to it.
"Let's just ignore that...." Owl gulped nervously. "Come on guys!" Everyone followed her out of the room, Willow being the last. "Well there's another door way, let's go there."
"That sounds good," Convela agreed, following Owl as she leads to the doorway.
As soon as they walk through they hear a familiar voice. "Oh dear that took longer than I thought it would...." Toriel walked into view with another human, around the same age of the girls, holding onto her purple robs. Her brown hair was laying flat on her back as normal, her chocolate eyes weary. Instead of the normal green vest and pink shirt she wore most of the time, it was replaced with a blue and pink stripped sweater.
All in unison the 11 other girls shouted her name, "SG!"
Edit:
Irene, so. Many. Mistakes. *shudders*
