Chapter 3~ A Hero

"Guys... If we don't live through this... please know... that I don't mind being shipped with Travis." Angel said as the pellets quickly advanced, and everyone turned to stare at her. Azia then whispered, "#Clovis!" before shutting her eyes once again.

Everyone's attention came back to the pellets that were less than a few inches from the girls. Then a ball of fire was thrown at Flowy the insane flower, sending him flying not the darkness. The girls all gasped as a weird goat like creature walked were the flower once sat.

"What a terrible creature," the goat lady said to the confused girls, "torturing such a poor, and innocent youth..." she then glanced over at the girls, studying their expressions. "Ah do not be afraid my children," she said in a comforting tone.

"I'm not afraid of some goat lady," Willow muttered under her breath.

"I am TORIEL," Toriel said, "Caretaker of the RUINS." The girls looked at each other, suspicion lurking in their eyes. Could this weird goat women be trusted? "I pass through this place everyday," Toriel continued, not noticing the glares of some of the girls, "to see if anyone had fallen down. You are the first human to come here in a long time."

"What does she mean by that..?" Convela murmured to herself. "And we're not 'human'. We're 'humans', plural. Get your grammar correct, weird old goat lady...." This comment earned her a jab in the ribs from Angel.

"Come!" Toriel said. "I will guide you through the catacombs. This way."

"Should we trust her?" Owl asked her friends as Toriel walked further into the darkness, away from the one patch of light.

"We have no other choice," Phebs said.

"Yeah and she saved us from that demon flower," Fairy added. "So she can't be all bad!" Lissy nodded as Rae started to walk to were Toriel went, the others coming to join her. The walked past a purple door way and entered a room made of purple stones, red flowers were put up for decoration.

Toriel was standing, waiting patiently for the girls to come. Then she continued to advance down the hall to a small staircase with another doorway on top.

Just as the girls were about to follow her they all heard something, a voice ringing through out their heads.

*(The shadow of the ruins looms above, filling you with DETERMINATION.)

They all looked at each other, before shaking it off and continued following Toriel into the ruins.

"Welcome to your new home, innocent ones," Toriel said, as she stood by some buttons on the floor, opening up the doorway behind her.

"I don't like the sound of that," Pix whispered to Lissy, who nodded in response, her eyes fixed on the goat creature in front of her.

"Allow me to educate you in the operation of the RUINS," Toriel said, not hearing what Pix had said. She then walked over some of the buttons in a certain order, one the girls quickly forgot.

"The RUINS are filled with puzzles," Toriel said earing a few small groans from the girls. "Ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys," Toriel continued explaining. "One must solve them to move from room to room, please adjust yourselves to the sight of them." Toriel then went through the doorway she had opened up a few moments ago.

Once again the girls followed her, the feeling of being watched was unsettling. Azia looked behind herself as if to see no one else was there.

"To make progress here, you will need to trigger several switches," Toriel said as the girls tuned back to her. "Do not worry, I have labelled the ones you need to flip," Toriel then continued walked, passing a switch which Angel flipped. Then there were two more switches. One with arrows pointing to it and the other with no arrows.

Willow went up and flipped the one with the arrows. A small thud caused the floor to shake, making some of the girls lose balance and topple over. As they got up they saw Toriel with a delighted look on her face.

"Splendid!" she exclaimed. "I am proud of you little ones!"

"Ok, look lady!" Rae said, "I'm not some 'little one'!" but Toriel was already advancing to the next room, ignoring Rae's protest.

"Let us move onto the next room," Toriel called out to the girls. They all sighed and followed her into the next room.

"As a human in the Underground," Toriel said, "monsters may attack you. You will need to be prepared for this situation." The girls glanced over at one another, with worried expression on their countenances. Last time they fought a monster they almost died to it's 'friendliness pellets'. "However, worry not!" Toriel said, seeing the worried faces. "The process in simple. When you encounter a monster, you will enter a FIGHT."

Willow nudged Rae and grinned at the mention of fighting. Rose the glared at the two, their grins faded away, seeing how mad she was at the thought of fighting.

"While you are in a fight," Toriel said, "strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time. I will come to resolve the conflict. Practice talking to the dummy," Toriel said as she pointed to a dummy in the corner of the room.

The girls looked at each other then back at Toriel to see if she was kidding. The look on her face had no trance of humor. The girls walked up to the dummy. The world went black and white again, as it did when they had tangled with the demon flower, Flowey.

They then all heard the same strange voice from before whisper in their minds.

*You encountered the Dummy.

The girls look at the dummy dumbfounded. What were they supposed to do?! Strike up a conversation. Well that's exactly what they did.

Fairy took a deep breath before stepping closer to the dummy.

"Um, hi..." she said to it. "How's your day going?"

The voice then said.

*You talk to the Dummy.

*...

*It doesn't seem much for conversation.

Fairy's face flushed red as giggled could be heard from behind her.

The voice then whispers to the girls again.

*Toriel seems very happy with you.

Then the world fades back into color, freeing the girls from the fight. Toriel stood in the same place as before, her face happy.

"Ah, very good!" she exclaimed. "You are very good." Then she exited the room, leaving the girls standing there confused.

They all sigh before, once again, following the crazy goat lady into a different room. Toriel stood by once again waiting for the elven girls.

"There is another puzzle in this room..." Toriel said. "I wonder if you can solve it?" she then continued walking, the girls trailing behind her. They walked over to an inside river, with a bridge of intimidating spikes. Toriel stopped in front of them and turned back to the girls.

"This is the puzzle," she said. "Here, take my hand for a moment." Azia made a face while Rose held out her hand to the goat monster. The other girls sighed before linking hands, turning into a giant chain of girls, lead by a weird goat lady. The spikes disappeared were Toriel stepped, making a path way for the girls.

When they got to the end Toriel turned to them, "Puzzles like that are to dangerous for now," then she turned back around and continued walking.

Then once again Toriel stood waiting for the girls.

"I'm starting to see a pattern here," Owl muttered as she waited for Toriel to speak.

"You have done excellently thus far, my children!" Toriel praised the girls. "However I have a difficult request to ask of you. I would like you to walk to the end of the room by yourself. Forgive me for this," and with that ominous note Toriel walked away.

"Guys I'm not so sure about this," Willow said crossing her arms.

"Yeah, this is pretty fishy," Lissy agreed with Willow.

"Ok how about we think about what's going on here" Angel suggested. "So first we fell into a hold on the mountain."

"Then we met up with a crazy flower named Flowey," Pix added.

"Flowy told us some interesting things," Owl said. "Such as our SOUL, and we're in the UNDERGROUND."

Rose nodded. "After Flowey almost killed us Toriel shot him with fire and saved us," she said.

"And now we're here," Phebs summed up. Lissy sighed.

"Well I guess we should just walk to the end of this room like Toriel asked," she said as she started to make her way down the hall. Azia sighed before following her, the other girls then trailed behind her. The walked down the hall, looking around just in case they had been lured into a trap. At the end of the hall there was a white pillar. Fairy walked up to take a closer look at it, seeing at is was the only thing out of place in the hall. Toriel walked out behind the pillar making Fairy jump in surprise.

"Greetings, my children. Do not worry, I did not leave you," Toriel assured the girls, who just looked at her with a 'really' face. Toriel did not seem to take notice of this as she continued talking. "I was merely behind this pillar the whole time. Thank you for trusting me. However there was an important reason for this exersize...to test your independence. I must tend to some business, and you must stay here alone for a while. Please remain here. It's dangerous to eplore by yourself."

The girls all looked at each other, still confused on what this goat lady was talking about.

"I have an idea. I will give you a CELL PHONE!" Toriel said, a bright smile on her face. "If you have a need for anything just call," she said as she handed each other the girls a CELL PHONE.

"This is the most outdated thing I've ever seen," Phebs muttered to Angel, who laughed quietly.

"Be good, alright?" Toriel said as she walked away, heading deeper into the RUINS.

"Well what now?" Owl asked out loud. All the girls shrugged, unsure of what to do now.

But the thought of haveing made a new friend filled them with, DETERMINATION.
