Here's just some tidbits of info everyone should be familiar with.

The Kingdom of Derion has stood strong for almost 200 years by today's date. However what was once a mighty power has fallen and broken in on itself. Due to constant conflict with Sindrin to the east, as well as internal conflicts Derion has slowly but surely been losing parts of it's territory and now that King Phoslorum II. has died of illness the kingdom is essentially in a civil cold war, although there have already been skirmishes in and around cities. From the two eligible heirs the older prince has been recognized by most as the next ruler, however a few powerful nobles want to bring his sickly younger sister on the throne as they think controlling her would be easy. The siblings themselves don't seem to want a conflict with the other but if they truly think that no one knows.

The Lionhearts are the royal knight order. That said however even their opinions aren't uniform when it comes to the throne's succession. Their main task is protecting the royal family and they do so with devotion. Their other tasks are generally just keeping public order and being ready for war should the need arise.

Another important player in this kingdom is the Paladin Order Iuderis. They are devout followers of Iudix, the god of law, and keep the law by arresting or killing criminals. They are separate from the Lionhearts and have no affiliation with them. They are deemed necessary but because they will bring down the law on anyone they sometimes come into conflict with each other.

The third and final important faction is the Serpent Guild. They're essentially an organization of criminals which banded together in response to Iuderis. Because the small groups that make up the Serpents would've easily been crushed one after another they had to combine their strength in order to oppose the paladins. Their goal is to gather as much power as possible during this chaotic time, to eventually crush Iuderis.

Magic certainly is a thing in this world however it is a very rare gift. Only about 100 people in the entire kingdom can make use of it. Those lucky few who can however are almost guaranteed to live a good life.
