More Questions Than Answers
J-Fred froze, unsure if he should listen to what they were saying or try and intervene before Matt got shot.
"Where are the drugs?!" Chad demanded, slamming Matt's head against the wall.
"Like I'm afraid of secret agent spies like you." Matt sneered.
"You will be if I tell everyone in the office your secret." Chad growled threateningly.
Matt's confident facade instantly crumbled.
"Look, don't get my family involved in this, I'm just doing this to keep my dreams alive here...I don't wanna let everyone down." Matt pleaded, his ice blue eyes wide with fear.
"You mean this is how you pay for the office?" Chad scoffed.
"Not only the office. I use the money I earn to pay everyone, hire more staff, buy new NERF weapons, and so much more." Matt listed off.
"I also used it to hire bodyguards since I knew you and your friend have been following me." Matt smirked triumphantly.
Chad paused for a moment, looking around them. J-Fred held his breath, praying that he wouldn't be spotted. Chad finally looked back at Matt and jammed the gun harder in between his ribs before speaking again.
"My friend?" Chad repeated quizzically.
"The person in the black leather jacket isn't with you?" Matt frowned in confusion.
"No." Chad shook his head.
"Look, I'm only going to ask you one more time. Where did you hide the drugs?" Chad asked in a dangerously calm tone tinged with impatience.
"Bite me." Matt snapped.
Chad responded by shooting Matt in the shoulder before running around the opposite side of the building back towards the main entrance.
Matt stumbled back slightly before falling to his knees, a dazed expression on his face.
"Matt!" J-Fred exclaimed as he ran over from around the corner and kneeled down next to his brother, helping him lay down on his back.
"I'm guessing you saw all of that?" Matt grimaced in a combination of pain and irritation.
"Yeah." J-Fred admitted.
"I hired you to protect me, not eavesdrop on my conversations." Matt winced as he tried to sit up, pressing his hand against his wound as blood flowed from in between his fingers.
"You know I'm part of the Hermanos?" J-Fred frowned.
So much for keeping Matt out of it, J-Fred thought bitterly.
"First of all, the name kinda gives it away. Second, I saw the cameras you, Kevin, Gunner, and Bryan set up. Third, the four of you have been watching me extra closely." Matt explained, scooting back slightly so he could rest his back and head against the wall.
"What happened? I heard gunshots!" Chad came bursting out of the front doors with the rest of the crew in tow.
J-Fred had to admit that Chad was a convincing actor.
No one seemed to notice the withering look Matt and J-Fred was shooting Chad as they gathered around him, wanting to know what happened.
"I got jumped by a person. They were wearing a mask so I couldn't tell what they looked like." Matt lied, closing his eyes and breathing shallowly as blood soaked through his shirt and dripped onto the black parking lot.
Mike took Matt to the hospital while J-Fred explained everything he heard and learned to Kevin, Bryan, and Gunner.
"Chad's an undercover agent?" Kevin scoffed.
"Yes." J-Fred stated simply with a nod.
"Matt's a drug dealer?" Bryan repeated skeptically.
"Yes." J-Fred repeated.
"That does explain why he would disappear and why he tore down the cameras." Kevin mused.
"He did also move again recently so he was further away from Chad." Gunner added.
"But that still leaves one question," Bryan glanced at all of them.
"Who's the second person?"
Dun dun dun! Another cliffhanger. No this isn't the last chapter, yes I'm an evil human being, I believe we've all established that by now. But, I want to see what you guys think? Who could the second person in the black leather jacket be?
