Your Best Friend

Ugh... my head is pounding... I feel like I've fallen a hundred blocks...

I squint open my eyes, seeing a dark surrounding. I push myself to my feet, gazing around me. I look down, to see a small bed of yellow flowers. Dandelions, they look like. Somewhat.

Looking above me, I see a light. Well, an opening. About a hundred blocks up.

Hold on.

There are no blocks around me. This isn't my world. This is somewhere different. I wonder, where exactly?

Looking to my right, I see a dark corridor. With nothing else around me, I allow my legs to carry me forward.

About halfway through the darkness, I have a thought. Do I still have my powers? I jump, in attempts to fly, however when my feet return quickly to the ground, I understand that my powers don't work.

Well. Hopefully I won't need them.

I continue my trek, coming upon a small archway on the left. I pass through, to see a yellow flower, large than the ones from earlier, slowly swaying in the small patch of grass it rests in.

As I approach, I realise it has a face, and that it's dancing. Dancing to music I can't hear.

"Howdy!" The flower says in a cheery voice, when it notices me. "I'm Flowey! Flowey the Flower!"

"Uh," I start, taken aback from the talking fauna. "Hi, Flowey," He looks up at me, a curious expression on his face.

"Golly, you look confused. Are you new to the Underground?" He tilts his head in support of his question.

The Underground? What is that?

"The Underground?" I question the flower.

"Why, the Underground is where we are, where we all live!" He answers. "Right now, we are at the entrance of the Ruins," I give a nod of understanding, even though I still don't fully understand.

"I guess someone should teach you how things work around here," Flowey looks around, and in reaction as do I. "No one else around, so I guess little old me will have to do. Ready?"

I look back at Flowey, and say, "Alright, sure,"

"Let's go then!"

Suddenly, the room is illuminated by a faint orange light, and I quickly take to mind that my eyes haven't been glowing.

"See that?" Flowey questions, and I glance down to see a small, orange heart.

"Yeah,"

"That is your soul! The very culmination of your being!"

"What, this tiny heart?"

"Yep!" Flowey smiles. "Your soul starts off weak, but can get stronger if you gain lots of LV!"

"What's LV?"

"Why love of course!" Of course. "Do you want some love?"

"Feels weird being asked that by a flower," I reply. "But sure," five small, white dots appear above Flowey's head.

"Down here," he explains. "Love is shared through little... white..." Flowey glances off into the darkness, a slight smirk forming. "Friendliness Pellets," He looks back at me with his initial cheery face, and suddenly I get a feeling.

Something is not right with this flower.

"Go on!" Flowey says, as the 'pellets' begin to slowly move towards me. "Move around! Catch as many as you can!"

I barely move an inch, not taking my eyes off the pellets, until they're almost touching, at which point I quickly duck out of the way. Flowey gives me a puzzled look, and chuckles awkwardly.

"Hey buddy," he says, as I straighten my stance. "You uh, you missed 'em," I give him no response. "That's okay! We'll try again!"

More white pellets appear, flying gently towards me. Again, at the last second, I duck out of the way. Flowey grows slightly agitated.

"Is this a joke?" He questions. "Are you braindead? Run. Into. The. Bullets- the, friendliness pellets!" Flowey catches himself, changing what I now believe to be the true meaning of these dots, back to the nicer name.

Because of that, he has lost any and all trust of mine. As his bullets fly toward me, I take no hesitation in avoiding them.

That's when Flowey snaps.

"Y o u     k n o w     w h a t ' s     g o i n g     o n     h e r e ,  d o n ' t    y o u ?" His voice changes to sound, somewhat corrupted, and his expression now displays one of a crazy person. Or, crazy flower. Whatever. "Y o u     j u s t     w a n t e d     t o     s e e     m e    s u f f e r ."

"I barely met you, and you're already trying to kill me!" I argue, suddenly having an epiphany that killing me was what he was planning all along. "What is the matter with you?" Flowey twitches, and his mouth smiles too largely for his face.

Suddenly bullets completely circle around me, and with my inability to fly and most likely teleport, I have no escape.

"D I E !!!!!!" Flowey screams, before laughing maniacally. The bullets begin to close in, and I begin to freak out. I have no escape, no way of defending myself. Am I going to die here?!?!

I can't help it, I cover my eyes with my hands, and lower myself so I'm crouching. I'm going to die to a flower!!

Moments before I feel like the end has come, Flowey stops laughing, before giving a short shout.

I open my eyes, to see that he's gone. Nowhere in sight. Seconds later, a creature emerges from the shadows, and I scramble to my feet, defences up.

"What a terrible creature," the creature mumbles in a soft, anxious voice. "Torturing such a poor, innocent child," It looks at me, and I can't help but but on a stern face, and position myself in a fighting stance.

"Do not be afraid, my child," it says, kneeling down. "I am Toriel, caretaker of the Ruins," Toriel smiles warmly. "I keep watch over this place, to see if any humans have fallen down,"

I drop my defence slightly. This... creature, whatever she may be, is a lot more caring than Flowey. Although, Flowey did pretend to be a friend. Who knows what tricks Toriel has up those white sleeves of hers.

"You won't try and hurt me, will you?" I question, knowing full well she could just as easily lie.

"Oh, of course not!" She instantly replies, voice as caring as a mothers'. "I would never even dream of such things!"

I decide; Toriel is kind. I can trust her not to fight or harm me.

"Very well then," I tell her, which genuinely pleases her.

"Allow me to guide you through the catacombs, my child," she stands, and holds out a hand. Er, paw? I reach up and grab it, confirming that it is in fact, a paw.

Toriel leads me out of the dark room, and into a brighter one. Two staircases conjoin to one platform at the other end of the room, and a pile of red leaves lay in front. As Toriel approaches the stairs on the right, a strange, glowing star catches my eye.

I walk towards it and feel... I feel like this star is important. I don't know why, but I reach out as if to touch it. Not having expected anything to happen, I'm startled when the light speaks. Not, speaks like me, or Toriel, or Flowey, but almost as if a voice in my head.

'The shadows of the Ruins looms above, filling you with Bravery.' The voice says, and I suddenly do feel braver than I did. Then, two words appear in front of me: Save, and Return. As if I know what they do, I reach out and press Save, before looking up at Toriel.

She looks down at me, head tilted in concern and confusion. I head up the stairs, as she asks,

"Are you alright, my child?"

"Yeah," I reply as I reach her. "I was just curious about that light," Toriel lances down at where the star sits.

"Which light?" She questions. "I... I don't see any light,"

I look down, at the gleaming light, before back up, to Toriel's concerned expression.

"You know what?" I question lightly, smiling. "Nevermind."
