Spending Time - Chapter 12
Ross' POV:
"Ross, wake up! It's about to be one!"
"Get the hell up!"
I feel someone start to harshly shake me, which makes me open my eyes to look at who it was. Roy of course. He let's go when he sees my eyes open and smirks.
"Morning sleeping beauty." Roy teases.
I frown and turn to look at him but feel a sudden pain in my neck, making me wince. Robert notices and crawls closer to me. He helps me sit up and presses a bag of ice on my neck.
"I woke up in the middle of the night and saw your head positioned in a bad way so I helped you lay down. But your head was still like that for a while so I knew your neck would hurt once you woke up, so I brought some ice to try and relieve the pain!" Robert explains.
"Oh, thanks Rob." I say with a light smile, replacing Robert's hand with my hand on the bag of ice.
My thoughts went back to when Robert fell asleep on me. He woke up in the middle of the night so he probably realized what he did and knew it was a mistake. So I shouldn't dwell on it too much.
We all crawl out the fort and begin to take it apart. Robert took the chairs and pillows downstairs to put away while me and Roy folded the blankets. He was awfully quiet for some reason, usually he would've brought something up to talk about but he's just.. quiet.
Robert comes back upstairs and tells us breakfast is ready. So we head downstairs and sit at the table, plates already served and my mom sitting there with a cup of coffee.
"Hi boys, how'd you sleep?" she asks.
"Good, Ross slept really well though." Roy jokes.
Mom chuckles and gets more comfortable in her seat. "So, I have an update for you Robert." she says.
Robert, who was dogging his food, immediately stopped and looked up at her. "Really?!" he asks.
Mom hums. "Mhm, those errands I was running yesterday were for your mom. I invited her to coffee and we talked about how I could help her. Let's just say we got a plan figured out and you and your siblings are gonna get out of there safely."
Robert smiles and gets up to give her a hug. "Thank you thank you thank you!" he repeats happily.
Mom hugs him back. "Of course hon."
Robert breaks the hug and sits back down in his seat. I smile to myself, I'm glad Robert and his family are getting the help they need.
We all began eating our food and while we did Robert continued to read his astronomy book. He'd mumble to himself when he found something cool and I would try and look over at what he read. Eventually he noticed and he put the book in the middle of us so we could read together.
We ended up getting so caught up into the book Roy and my mom had already finished eating and left the table. And when we realized we still kept on reading. Spending time with Roy one on one is fun but with Robert it's just more chill. I feel more relaxed and calm. I mean, me and him do have fun as well but sometimes it's nice to just do something chill. I don't see myself sitting down in silence and reading a book with Roy.
"Hey Ross?" Robert suddenly says.
"Yeah?" I answer.
"I was thinking, since we're both kinda into this book, maybe we could find a spot in town to look at the stars? Maybe start a star-gazing notebook?" he asks. "It could just be a 'me and you' thing."
The words 'me and you' echoed through my head. It excited me, it shouldn't have but it did. A place only me and him would know about to just hang out. Just me and him. As friends.
"That sounds cool! I have an empty notebook in my closet we could use." I suggest.
"Nice! We could look for a spot after we drop Roy off at his." he beams out.
"Sounds like a plan!"
I give him a smile then get up from my seat and take both me and Robert's plates to put them in the dishwasher. I ended up just loading everything in the sink snd starting the washer cause I know that'd make mom happy later when she comes to cook dinner. She always gets frustrated when she has to cook and there's dishes everywhere.
After that I walked back upstairs to my room and saw Roy and Robert giggling on my bed. Except when they noticed me they completely stopped.
"What's so funny?" I ask suspiciously.
They look at each other awkwardly then back at me.
"Uhh, Robert was just telling me about how dirty your hair was yesterday. Oh- and speaking of, Robert styled it pretty nice. Looks good?" Roy rambles.
Robert gave him a look that said 'Really?' which made me chuckle. Roy sucks at hiding stuff but I'll let it go just this once. I did appreciate the compliment on my hair though.
"Thanks, has anyone seen my beanie though?" I ask.
Robert points to a spot on the floor and there my beanie was. I picked it up and placed it on my head, it feels strange having it back on after having it off for a while.
I sat down next to Robert and took the bag of ice off my neck while opening it. I was letting it melt this whole time so the ice would turn small and be able to chew without damaging my teeth too much. I don't know something about the crunch of ice is just really satisfying to me.
"I should start heading home now, my parents probably noticed I'm gone so don't wanna make it worse." Roy says.
"Alright, me and Robert will change real quick then we'll head out." I say, chewing on a piece of ice right after.
Roy nods then me and Robert get up to get our clothes from our drawers. We took turns changing in the closet like yesterday, me first then Robert.
While Robert was changing I heard him gasp which made me and Roy jump.
"What happened?!" We yell in sync.
"Ross, you have a guitar?!" he shouts from inside the closet.
Oh god damn it. I frown and head-butt myself as Roy laughs his ass off next to me.
"Aw, you play guitar Ross?" he teases.
I glare at him and give him a shove. "Sometimes. My dad gave me that guitar so I learned to play." I admit.
I didn't tell them I play guitar cause I felt like it'd be embarrassing for someone as quiet as me to play guitar. You wouldn't really expect it.
"You should show us a song sometime!" Robert suggests, exiting the closet as he says so.
"... Maybe." I respond.
Robert gives me a smile then grabs his bag from the floor.
"I'll meet you guys downstairs, just gonna grab some things." Robert says.
Me and Roy nod and begin to leave. Before I could Robert tapped my shoulder.
"Where's the empty book again?" he asks.
"Top of the closet." I answer.
"Alright. Also could we maybe um- bring the guitar?" he hesitantly asks.
It kinda flattered me that we wanted to hear me play. I wouldn't mind bringing it but I've never actually played in front of anyone, which is throwing me off a bit. But I know Robert won't judge so it should be fine. Maybe fun.
"Sure! You go down with Roy instead and I'll pack." I answer.
He smiles widely and hands me his bag before heading downstairs with Roy.
I quickly start packing the things we'd need into Robert's bag; the empty notebook, blankets, and leftover snacks from yesterday. Lastly I go into my closet and pull my guitar down from the top of my closet, along with its case. I put the guitar in its case and strap it onto my shoulder.
I start heading downstairs and notice Roy and Robert giggling again. What could possibly be so funny? I try and stay quiet so I could listen in on them, which I know I probably shouldn't do, but Robert notices. He's always able to catch little noises and feel someone's presence.
I play it off and start to walk towards them before Robert gets to me as if I wasn't trying to listen in on their convo and greet them.
"Hey, done packing." I say.
"Nice! Alright let's go!" Robert beams out with a smile.
We all start to make our way outside and say bye to my mom on the way out. Once we're outside we start the walk to Roy's house and on the way I start thinking of places me and Robert could look at the stars.
