Pizza - Chapter 20
Ross' POV:
I continued my walk into the forest and every now and then I'd find a blue flower on the ground to pick up. At this point I already had five and each time I took one from the ground I could feel my face flush red. The suspense is killing me, what is all this for?
I desperately wanted to know, so I sped up my pace, making sure to look out for any more flowers. Finally, I saw the familiar light beaming through the forest from before, telling me I'm nearly there. My stomach knotted at the light, I don't know what to expect once I'm on the field. I slowly approached it and was immediately met with the smell of.. pizza. Of all things it could've been, it was pizza. Not complaining though.
I finally set foot on the field, except I was confused to see no one or nothing was here. I looked around a bit until I realized the hill from before wasn't covered in snow anymore. There was a huge light coming from it, that must be where he is. How'd he get all of that snow off the hill though? There's snow everywhere else but here.
I approached the hill and was happy to see that Robert was there at the bottom waiting for me. When he saw me he gave that usual big smile that I love and waved.
"You made it! Did you like the lanterns?" he asked.
"Yeah, that was really nice of you. Did you kill the crows too because I didn't hear them at all." I joke.
"Eh, I just bribed them with some food and had them move just for today." he responds.
"You bribed 'crows' with food? They didn't attack you?" I ask.
"Uhh, one of them nipped at my hair but I'm fine," he answers with a chuckle. "Anyways, let's head up, I gotta surprise!"
I chuckle back and nod in agreement.
We made our way up the hill, which was surprisingly dry, while talking about how we'd have a sleep over at his house since his dad is gone. We already had a whole plan set. When we were about to reach the top of the hill Robert stopped me. I turn to look at him.
"Come here real quick." he says, gesturing for me to come closer.
I stand directly in front of him and he grabs the band of my beanie, pulling it down over my eyes.
"Robert you goof, is it really that big of a surprise?" I amusingly ask.
"Yes! Now come on." he answers, grabbing my shoulders to guide me the rest of the way up.
I knew we were at the top of the hill when I felt my feet on a flat surface and the smell of pizza got stronger. Robert helped me to sit on the ground and told me to wait a second before I fix my beanie. I heard a bit of rustling before I heard him sit in front of me.
"You can take it off now!" he says excitedly.
I give him a little smile before moving my hat upwards and off my eyes. I looked around and my smile got even bigger. There were four boxes of pizza, a vase, two blankets, and a huge screen, the ones you'd find at a drive up-theater.
I looked at Robert in shock and awe. "Dude you did all this?!" I ask
"Yeah!" he answers, grabbing the vase and holding it in front of me so I could put the flowers inside.
I put the flowers inside and gave him a playful punch in the shoulder. "You're so random! Why'd you do all this?"
He puts the vase to the side and smirks. "You'll find out later." he answers with a teasing wink. That immediately made my face change color, he did not just wink at me.
I awkwardly laugh and Robert laughs back at my reaction.
"So, do you like the flowers?" he asks, grabbing a bag from behind him.
"Yeah they're really nice. What kind are they?" I ask back.
"They're actually hand-made, so they're not really a specific flower. I just knew dark blue is your favorite color and I wanted them to stand out so uh.. y'know, that's how they came out." he answers.
"Oh Rob, you made them?" I ask in awe, that's so freaking sweet.
"Yeah! I was going to buy you some but thought it'd be better if I just made them so they last forever." he answers with a soft smile.
Aw, that was so thoughtful of him. I feel like my heart is melting just thinking about the time and effort he put into those flowers just for me.
"That's really freaking cool. Thanks Rob!" I say to him.
He gives me a thumbs up before opening the bag he grabbed before and places it in front of me.
"These are our movie options. I rented a bunch I think you'd like-"
"Wait a minute, how'd you get a whole movie theater screen here?!" I ask suddenly.
He laughs. "Money. Lot's of it. Roy helped me too though." he answers.
I made a "hm" sound before looking down at all the movie options. He really did get a bunch; there was Batman, DC, Studio Ghibli, Thriller, Mystery, seventies (70's) and so much more.
"Wow, you know me so well. You're the best." I compliment.
He smiles brightly and rubs the back of his head in embarrassment. "Aw, well what friend would I be if I didn't know your favorite movie genres?"
I give him a smile before looking back down at the movies. I have no idea what to pick, there's so many options.
"You goof you got so much I don't know what to pick," I jokingly complain "You have to help me pick."
He chuckles and looks through the movies with me. We eventually settled on 'Batman Begins'. Robert took the movie from the bag and walked behind me to a projector, speaker, and computer I hadn't noticed before. He takes the movie disc out from its case and places it into the computer. He starts messing around with the projector and computer until the movie projects onto the screen. He sits down next to me and grabs a box of pizza to open.
"I got plain, pepperoni, chicken, and sausage. There's some parmesan, garlic, and red pepper right there.." he points to the condiments "..If you want it. Have as much as you want!" he says, opening the rest of the boxes and placing them in front of us.
"Damn Robert, if I didn't know any better I'd think this is a date." I joke, grabbing a slice of pepperoni pizza.
He starts awkwardly laughing. "A date?! Hah, how funny would that be.." he says back.
I laugh at his awkwardness and pull my doctor pepper out from Robert's bag to drink, looking at the other stuff he got me in the process. "Oh, and thanks for that stuff you got me. I've been wanting another guitar pick. The one my dad got me has a weird design." I say to him as he grabs a slice of plain pizza.
"No prob!" he responds.
We smile at each other and turn our attention to the movie while dogging the pizza.
-
The movie is almost over and we've already finished all the pizza. I've seen the movie before but it's way better on the big screen with company. Especially since that company is Robert. Even though we weren't talking much my heart was racing like crazy. I'm enjoying our time together, I wish we were able to be together like this all the time.
When we finished the pizza, Robert had got up to get the blankets so we could wrap ourselves in them, since it gets cold the later it gets. We kept taking glances at each other now and then and looking away with flustered faces. At the kiss scene we literally couldn't take our eyes off each other though. I couldn't tell if it was because he just didn't want to look at the kiss or something else. But right after he scooted closer to me and subtly touched my finger with his, which made my stomach flutter. But I didn't move my hand away, I let him keep his finger there. And eventually it went from his finger, to his hand on mine. My heart quite literally jumped out of my chest when he did that. The same warmth and comfort from before, it's driving me crazy. Robert noticed how flustered I was and laughed to himself.
Eventually the credits started rolling and we both sat there just holding each other's hand, watching the words on the screen appear then slowly disappear off the screen. Robert grabbed his computer from behind him and muted the music from the movie before setting it down back behind him and looking me in the eyes.
"Got room for one more pizza?" he asks, fiddling with his other hand.
"Of course!" I answer.
He awkwardly smiles and gets up to go through another bag he had brought. He pulled out another box of pizza and sat back down next to me.
He hands it to me but before I could open it he stops me. "Don't open it yet." he says, placing his hand on top of the box. His face looked extremely red.
"Are you okay?" I ask worriedly.
He takes a couple deep breaths. "Yeah, I'm fine. You can open it now." he answers, holding in a smile.
I nod and immediately lift the top of the box of the pizza. But what I saw inside made my face flush. This isn't a regular pizza. And this isn't a regular meetup between friends. It's a confession.
