IF ONE YEAR AGO,YOU TOLD ADELLA ESPINOSA she would be going down to earth, she would have laughed in your face.
But now here she was, watching Bellamy Blake open the door to the dropship, light beaming in, making her cover her eyes with her arm.
As her eyes adjusted to the light, she took in the green scenery. And, she smiled. She turned and she saw Octavia turn to her. Adella nodded her head as the girl smiled, turning back around.
The brunette took one step out of the dropship, talking a deep breath. She took another step forward before her shoes touched the ground.
"Uh! We're back, bitches!" Octavia threw her hands in the air and Adella chuckled as everyone started to run out of the drop ship. Octavia ushered her to come out and Adella walked out, talking in the environment.
She breathed in the fresh air and grinned as she turned to Octavia. Octavia grabbed the girls hand, making her follow her.
Adella admired her surroundings, looking around at the leaves and trees. The smile never left her face. "It's nice, isn't it?" She quickly turned around, Finn grinning at her.
"Finn!" She breathed out, a smile on her face as she quickly walked towards him, pulling him into a hug. "You idiot, you almost got yourself killed!" She pulled out of the hug and slapped his chest.
"But I didn't." He grinned down at her as she narrowed her eyes, pushing his chest once again as he held her arms.
"You're so careless!" Adella scolded him, her motherly instincts kicking in as she stared up at her best friend. "Imagine, I had to tell Raven you died because of you stupidness!"
"Okay, mom. Calm down, I'm fine." Finn raised his hands, a faint chuckle leaving his lips. Adella raised her brow, moving to hold her hands on her hips.
"Don't you 'mom' me because I am smart." Adella tutted as she shook her head, looking up at Finn, biting back her laughter.
"If you say so." Finn shrugged as he continued to grin. Adella rolled her eyes, letting out a groan at his childishness.
"Shut up and let's go see what everyone is up to, Finny." She sighed as she grabbed his arm. "Let's get you some more friends, god knows you need more. You only have me." Adella grinned up at him as he breathed out a chuckle, following her lead.
Adella sighed as she looked through the ship, everything was dead. The communications system were dead. She tried to fix them but it was useless. She had nothing to fix them with.
Adella rested her head in her hands as she heard someone enter, she turned to see Wells. "Everything's dead, I've looked." She sighed as she leaned back in the seat.
"Great." Well's mumbled as Adella hummed.
"Adella." She held a hand out for him to shake and he shook it. "The pretty Blondie found a way to mount weather?" Adella asked Wells, referring to Clarke. Her and Clarke had spoken a few times on the ark, but not a whole bunch.
Wells hesitated to answer but he shook his head and she nodded. "How come you're talking to me?" He asked her and Adella frowned.
"Why wouldn't I?" She shrugged her shoulders. He pulled a face which made her sigh. "Who cares who your father is? They were his actions not yours. I have no reason not to talk to you. You seem like a good person." Adella offered him a smile to which he sent one back to her, thankful for her words. "Let's go tell blondie the news then."
The pair walked out of the drop ship as Adella spoke to Clarke, kneeling in front of her, due to the fact she was on the ledge.
"We got problems. The communications system is dead. I went to the roof. A dozen panels are missing. Heat fried the wires. I've tried to fix some of it but it's no use, I need proper tools." Adella told her and Clarke hummed, nodding her head as she looked up at Adella. "And I don't think any of these kids are carrying tools with them."
"Well, all that matters right now is getting to Mount Weather. See? Look. This is us. This is where we need to get to if we want to survive." Clarke told the two, pointing to the map that was laid in front of her and adella looked at the map.
"Where'd you learn to do that?" Wells asked but then he realised. "Your father." His face paled as Clarke sent him a small glare.
"Ah, cool, a map. They got a bar in this town? I'll buy you girls a beer." A boy with goggles smiled at the two girls which made Adella laugh, grinning up at his childish antics. It was Jasper. She remembered Jasper from Earth skills and he was always a good laugh. "Oh, it's you." He grinned as he pointed at Adella.
Once, Jasper and another boy, Miller, were fooling around in Earth skills lessons and Jasper got dared to tackle Adella and act like it was an accident. He failed as he tripped over a chair, falling at Adella's feet. Jasper and Adella were laughing for ten minutes straight. They were a laughing mess, on the floor. And they found a friendship because of that.
"Yeah, you owe me a drink for almost attacking me." Adella sarcastically spoke with a grin, Jaspers smile widening. "Who knows, you could be my new drinking buddy."
Randomly, Wells grabbed jasper which made Adella jump down beside Clarke, pulling Wells away from jasper. "Hey, hey, hey, hands off of him. He's with us." A new voice was heard as they all turned to see John Murphy and gang of boys behind him, making Adella roll her eyes, not being particularly fond of the boy. She had her few run ins with John Murphy. All sarcastic, but she did help him once when Pike was attacking him.
"Relax. We're just trying to figure out where we are." Wells held his hands up as Adella looked unimpressed, starting at the boy and his cocky smile.
"We're on the ground. That not good enough for you?" Bellamy Blake walked towards them, Octavia by his side.
"We need to find Mount Weather. You heard my father's message. That has to be our first priority." Wells told them, looking at everyone, who had now formed a circle around them.
"Screw your father. What, you think you're in charge here, you and your little Princess?" Octavia snapped, which made Adella let out a little chuckle, covering her mouth. Adella took this chance to move to stand next to Fox, who was also a friend of Adella's, who was carefully watching the scene in front of them. Octavia heard Adella's quiet laughter and grinned at her friend, proud that she made her laugh. Her smile widening as she saw Fox.
The three were a trio in Pikes earth classes, Fox and Adella being the only ones to treat Octavia like a person. Not a mistake or something strange.
"Do you think we care who's in charge? We need to get to Mount Weather not because the Chancellor said so, but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get and the harder this'll be. How long do you think we'll last without those supplies? We're looking at a twenty-mile trek, okay? So if we want to get there before dark, we need to leave now." Clarke told them and Adella admired her words, if she was being honest. Clarke knew how to hold herself and Adella admired that.
"I got a better idea. You two go, find it for us. Let the privileged do the hard work for a change." Bellamy sassed which made Adella roll her eyes.
"Wow, big guy. How long do you think we are all going to survive without food? You expect two people to bring back food for a hundred people." Adella scoffed. "Or do you plan to die of starvation?" She raised a brow, crossing her arms over her chest. "Blondie and Well's are right. We need a group." She spoke to the rest of the kids.
"I'm sure there are animals around here somewhere." Murphy, retorted back with a smirk which made Adella roll her eyes at him once more, turning to face him with an unimpressed look.
"And you are going to take down an animal, John? What with?" Adella raised a brow at him, her now being the cocky one. He snarled at her, but straitened up his back, turning back to the others. "Might as well start eating the leaves, guys!" She muttered to the crowd. Fox, who giggled, hid her face in Adella's shoulder, away from Murphy's glare.
"You're not listening. Adella is right! We all need to go." Wells added, looking around at everyone, grateful for Adella's input.
"Look at this, everybody... The Chancellor of Earth." Murphy shoved wells, grin on his face as the crowd gasped.
"Think that's funny? Uh!" Wells asked and Murphy kicked him, making him fall to the ground.
"No, but that was." Murphy grinned as Wells held up his fists. Adella could see Wells had never fought in his life by the way he held his arms.
Adella learned how to defend herself whilst she was locked up. It wasn't difficult in her opinion and she enjoyed it. She wouldn't say she was that good, but she knew how to throw a punch and throw knifes. That was the only thing she was good at, fighting wise.
Before it could get too violent, Finn jumped down from the space ship, doing a little turn, facing Murphy. Adella hid her laugh behind her hand but it was still audible, which made Murphy even more frustrated. Fox and Adella hid their faces, their childishness on show.
"Kid's got one leg. How about you wait until it's a fair fight?" Finn told Murphy, raising a brow as Murphy scoffed, turning to his group and walking away.
"Hey, spacewalker, rescue me next." Octavia flirted as Finn grinned, making Adella roll her eyes, squeezing Fox's arm.
Finn went to walk away and Adella joined his side. "You already have the ladies all over you." She joked as she kicked a rock. "Imagine how heart broken they are going to be when you tell them you have a girlfriend." Adella teased. "Let Tavia down lightly, though. Unlike you, I have a lot of friends—Octavia being one."
Finn chuckled at her statement. Finn then walked towards Clarke and Wells. "So Mount Weather. When do we leave?" Finn asked the blonde.
"Right now. We'll be back tomorrow with food." Clarke told wells, looking down at him.
"Like Adella said, How are the three of you gonna carry enough food for a hundred?" Wells asked, turning to Adella, who hummed.
Finn turned and grabbed Jasper and his friend, monty green, who held a leaf in his hand. Adella smiled at Jasper, who immediately smiled back. "Four of us. Adella is staying. Can we go now?"
"Why am I staying?" Adella immediately frowned at Finn's words. She did not want to be left with a bunch of criminals. She'd have to sleep with one eye open.
"To keep everyone under control." Finn told her, making her turn to see everyone running around like children.
"Sounds like a party. Make it five." Octavia grinned as she stood beside Adella, looping an arm around her neck. Adella chuckled as she leaned into Octavia, holding onto her arm.
"Hey, what the hell are you doing?" Bellamy asked Octavia, quickly joining his sister's side with a raised brow.
"Going for a walk." She smiled, turning to Adella with a grin, who immediately sent her one back.
"Hey, were you trying to take this off?" Clarke held Finns arm, examining his wrist and the bracelet around his wrist.
"Yeah. So?" Finn shrugged her off, looking down at his wrist.
"So this wristband transmits your vital signs to The Ark. Take it off, and they'll think you're dead." Clarke told him and Adella caught the way Bellamy was looking at it.
"Should I care?" He scoffed, rolling his eyes with a shrug. Adella rolled her eyes at his stupidness, turning to Octavia, who quietly chuckled.
"Well, I don't know. Do you want the people you love to think you're dead? Do you want them to follow you down here in two months? Because they won't if they think we're dying. Okay! Now let's go." Clarke nodded her head.
Octavia quickly pulled Adella into a hug, before following Clarke. Adella turned to Finn, a smile on her face.
"Keep safe, you better come back in one piece, don't know how I'd be able to explain it to Reyes." Adella nudged him.
"I need you to keep things under wrap. What if another fight breaks out?" Finn asked, ignoring her comment as he looked at her with a serious look.
"Just go. I'll have to body guard Wells with my life it looks like." She sighed as she looked at Wells, who was on the floor. Finn smile pulling her hat down to cover her eyes before leaving.
She turned around with a huff, sorting her pigtails and pulling her hat up-right. "This is going to be fun." Adella turned to Wells and sat beside him. "How's your leg?" She asked him. "I am no doctor, so don't say I need to stitch something."
"It's okay, I'll live." Wells shook it off, sending her a small smile. Adella sent him a smile back, patting his shoulder.
"Well, don't die, or start any fights or get involved. I want to go explore." She told him as she got up. "Shout me if you need me, I'll hear." and with that, Adella wandered into the forest.
She had to admit, earth was beautiful. She crouched down and picked a purple flower. She examined the flower, pulling the petals off of it.
There was a snap behind her and out of instinct, she threw her knife, the knife hitting again the tree.
She turned to see Murphy behind her which made her sigh, grabbing her knife. "Where did you get that?" He asked her, pointing to the knife in her hands.
"I obviously found it on the floor right here." Adella's sarcasm came out naturally, putting the knife back in her jacket. "Did you follow me?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. Her and Murphy had spoken before, well, argued, in Pike's earth class. Both of them didn't like the other. They were both fuelled with fire.
He had started an argument with her after one of her paper balls had hit him instead of Fox and Octavia. So he kicked her chair, making her tumble forward, but not completely. So, she had sat for 15 minutes arguing with him, calling him every curse word she could think of in English and Spanish until Pike came in and every earth class, she would just glare at him every chance she got. She was next level petty and held a massive grudge.
He scoffed. "No, I was just looking around, y'know, getting use to this ground thing." Murphy told her and she nodded her head. "I didn't catch your name." He leaned against a tree as she looked up at him as she sat on a log.
"We spent all off earth class bickering and you don't even remember my name, John?" She retorted right back. She then pulled a face and held her hand to her heart. "Hurtful."
Murphy stared down at the girl with interest. He also remembered the time in Pike's class where he would just sit and glare at the girls head, fighting the instinct to kick her chair again.
He did remember her name, but he didn't want to give her the victory of rubbing it in his face. "Must of not been a rememberable name." He replied to which she rolled her eyes.
"Adella." She told him as she picked up a stick, twirling it in her hands, paying little-to-no attention to him.
"Well, you already know my name, so need to introduce myself, well, properly." He replied as she hummed. "How come you didn't go on the little mission?"
"Someone has to keep everyone in check. Can't have you starting another fight, right John?" She sarcastically asked, grin on her face.
He tilted his head to the side, watching as she twirled a stick in her hand. "Is sarcasm all you know?"
"Well, it's what I do when people like you speak to me." Adella hummed, nodding her head. "So take that as a hint that I don't want to speak to you." She sent him a sarcastic smile, quickly dropping it.
Adella knew what kind of person Murphy was. He wanted a fight whenever he could. And Adella hated people like that—who caused distress to anyone.
He was about to say something until Adella heard her name being called. She saluted him as she walked past him and to the person who called her name and it appeared to be Fox.
"You called?" Adella sighed and she saw Fox brushing through her hair with her fingers, a soft sigh leaving the girls lips.
"Can you braid my hair, it keeps getting in my face." Fox sighed as Adella chuckled. Adella always use to braid Fox's hair on the ark. Even in Earth skills class, even when Pike told them to stop. It was their little thing.
Adella had taught herself how to braid her hair, due to her father not having a single clue how to wrap a bobble around three strands of hair.
Adella always had hair ties on her wrists, which was something useful. She sat behind Fox as she started to braid her hair.
"Why do you think they sent us down here?" Fox asked a concentrating Adella, fidgeting with her hands.
Adella bit her lip, she knew exactly why they were sent down, she still hadn't had time to read the letter her dad gave her. "I don't know, Fox."
"But why now?" Fox asked, her curiosity getting the better of her as she looked over her shoulder.
Adella shrugged as she finished braiding her hair. "I have no clue." She said as she tied the hair tie at the bottom.
Adella heard chuckling nearby after a couple of minutes and she turned to see Murphy and his gang of friends writing something on the drop ship.
"What are they doing?" Fox questioned, frown on her face as she stared at the group.
"Being fools." Adella shrugged as she looked at what they were writing. 'First son to dye'
Adella turned to Fox then back to the proud Murphy. Fox was about to laugh but Adella covered her mouth, knowing it woudnt get a good reaction out of him, the boy seemed to get irritated easily.
"John, you spelt die wrong. It's D, I, E, not dye. What is he doing, dying his hair? Leave the poor kid alone." Adella turned to him before standing up with Fox and walking towards everyone else. She didn't miss the irritated look he gave her.
Fox and Adella shared a high-five as they walked away, their laughter loud, which only ticked Murphy off even more.
Adella was in the dropship, trying to fix things as she heard cheers from outside. She went to go look to see wells and Bellamy talking, the kids surrounding a fire.
"It looks like you're trying to get us all killed. The communication system is dead. These wristbands are all we got. Take them off, and the Ark will think we're dying, that it's not safe for them to follow." Wells shouted at Bellamy and Adella looked in the fire to see many wristbands in it.
"That's the point, Chancellor. We can take care of ourselves, can't we?" Bellamy shrugged his shoulders.
"You think this is a game? Those aren't just our friends and our parents up there. They're our farmers, our doctors, our engineers. I don't care what he tells you. We won't survive here on our own, and besides, if it really is safe, how could you not want the rest of our people to come down?" Wells asked and Adella agreed with every word.
"My people already are down. Those people locked my people up. Those people killed my mother for the crime of having a second child. Your father did that." Bellamy pointed at Wells.
"My father didn't write the laws." Wells told him, a scoff leaving his lips as he shook his head.
"No. He enforced them, but not anymore, not here. Here, there are no laws." Bellamy said as people started to cheer. "Here, we do whatever the hell we want whenever the hell we want. Now, you don't have to like it, Wells. You can even try to stop it or change it, kill me. You know why? Whatever the hell we want."
People started to cheer and Adella clenched her jaw as she shook her head. Just as everyone cheered, thunder was heard and rain pored down on them.
Adella looked up, a slight smile on her face. The rain droplets dropped on her, which made her laugh to herself. She looked back down to see everyone also laughing. They had never felt rain on their skin. She watched as they cheered and laughed with each other.
Wells and Bellamy argued and Wells walked towards the dropship where Adella was stood. She walked in the dropship and grabbed a bucket that was found and put it outside.
"We need to collect this, right?" She grinned at Wells as he pulled out a bucket. She pulled off her hat and put it on a chair inside.
He nodded his head at her, a grateful smile on his face.
Adella looked down at the sleeping Fox with a smile before leaving the tent. Adella had found a tent and claimed it as hers, Fox's and Octavias, ignoring Murphys protests that the 'privileged don't deserve them.' She couldn't get to sleep and she wanted to stay outside for a while, finding the silence peaceful.
She silently left the area until she came across a glowing scenery. It was light blue, Adella's favourite colour. She smiled as she came across a blue butterfly which made her stare in awe as it landed on her finger.
"Hello there little guy." She smiled as she stroked the butterfly. "Aren't you gorgeous."
She was in awe. She wanted to see what the earth had in stall for them. Little did she know, it wasn't good.
