Chapter 6: Wendy

Hey guys, so I was able to write between my online classes, short little bit, but I will probably be able to push the next part out later tonight! Comment and Enjoy!! :))

Chapter 6: Wendy

"This semester's project is partner work. You are free to pick your own partners but choose wisely. This will be an out of school project, therefore you have to choose your own work sessions accordingly. It is based off of our current unit of cloud development. Today is planning day, the whole assignment is in the syllabus handing to you a few weeks back." Mr. Brady announces to the class.

Weston looks at me, "do you have the syllabus?" "Yeah," I said, handing it to him. He stares at the paper with analytical eyes trying to decipher the words. His eyes scatter the page before turning to me. "I'm sure your guy friends are gonna work together, and we already have to work together for an extra hour after practice starting today. So how about you just be my partner. You don't have to, it's completely up to you, I know you barely know me and all but-" Weston starts to ramble but I put my hand on his arms to stop the frantic curly haired boy next to me. The muscles under my hand tense at my touch.

"Weston, it's no biggie. Sure, we can work together." I have noticed that with each conversation we have throughout the past few days and few practices he has become less and less reactive to me saying his name. Almost as if we are slowly becoming friends as well.

He nods. For the next half hour of the class, Weston and I work through our plan for the assignment and how it will fit into our already rigorous volleyball schedule. I think about the conversations about this guy that I have been having with my friends and how they seem completely opposite to what he acts like with me. So I did the only thing I knew. I asked him about it.

"How come you seem so quiet all the time? You only really talk to a few people, yet I feel like you could have a lot of friends." I ask looking at him genuinely. His face morphs to a blank one.

"I don't know. I guess I just don't trust easy." I'm still curious.

"Why's that?"

"I don't know." He has clearly ended the conversation with his response. I don't want to pressure an answer out of him though so I let it go, changing the subject. I will come back to it later.

"So, were you named after Mr.Westons, from Jane Austen? Or is it just a coincidence?" His face is still stoic but he manages to plaster on a small grin.

"Haha, yeah. My mom loved that book from when she was younger. I grew up to her reading it to me. She said that she wanted to always reminisce on the book and it's meaning every time she would speak to me." He said, the gleam in his eyes dimming the more he spoke about the subject. My heart went out to him so I tried to bring happiness to the conversation.

"I have observed...in the course of my life, that if things are going outwardly one month, there are sure to mend the next." I told Weston, my favorite quote by the character, with all sincerity. With hopes to give a hidden message in the saying. He peered back at me with the his hazel eyes strewn with an unknown emotion. I give him a curt smile which he returns.

The bell rings overhead signaling the end of the day.

"So After practice I can give you a ride to my house and we can practice. Unless you want to go to yours." I say quickly as I pack my things.

"No that's okay, I'd much rather not be at my house. And I'll meet you there just text me the address." I nod my head remembering the contact he gave me for us to stay in contact for the project.

"So what's it like in Ontario?" I ask the boy who has consumed the last week of my life. I kind of miss my besties. I will have to call them later to meet up, I think to myself.

He strikes the ball at me, I practically fall to the hard ground of my driveway, "It's not much different from here, weather wise. But, it was home, with my team, my childhood friends, hell even the lady at the mini mart around the corner that would throw herself at me." He chuckles to himself before his face dims, "but there are bad memories there too that I am happy to forget." Damn this guy always finds a way to dim my conversations.

"What's one thing that you always love about that place."

"There was this little ice cream parlor that me and my mom would go to all the time together. The owners knew us by heart and adored my mom. That was her first job so she passed on her love for the place to me." This time when he spoke about her he was much more happy sounding even with his dimmed hazel eyes. God his eyes are beautiful.

"What about you," he asked.

"Oh that's an easy one. The diner. It's only a few miles down the road, but Levi's parents own the place. My two best friends and I go there all the time. That's our place. The vibe and all of it just brings me joy, ya know?"

"Yeah I do." A silence drifts between us listening to the ball as we pass back and forth. But the silence isn't awkward or tense. It's comforting.

I look behind him, still in awe over his car. "I still can't believe the corvette is your car. You said you loved your car, now I see why." That's the car I saw a few days ago, whatta beut.

"Yeah it's even better when she is on the road."

"You keep saying she, does she have a name?"

"Yep," he gleams, "Wendy."

"Like, as in the fast food place?"

"Yess!! Their frosties are sooo good." He exaggerates.

"Only when you dip the fries in them." I say in a duh tone.

His jaw drops, "You do that too!?"

"Of course, that's the only way to eat them."

"Ugh, your making me hungry now."

"Me too, I wanna go to the diner. I wanted to call Levi and Kennedy to meet up with them later." I said with a pouty face, wanting the time to pass so I can go now.

"Oh that's nice, I'll have to try their food sometime."

"You know you could come with me. I'm sure they wouldn't mind anyway. But it's up to you."

He catches the ball stopping the routine we had going, " I would love that."

"You can not be serious, Calvin Klein actually begged you to model for them?" Kennedy asked nearly having the milkshake she was drinking splur out her nose.

Weston nodded his head, a laugh escaping his pink lips. "Yeah, they were completely desperate. But volleyball was making me busy all the time so I had to turn them down."

"I mean not to be weird, but I can see why, haha." Levi adds but I can tell it wasn't in a flirty tone.

"I mean I guess, I know I am good looking but they were over the top." Wow. I like that he is self aware but not cocky. It looks good on him.

"God this milkshake is so good," I practically yell, taking a sip of Kennedy's.

"Do you want one of your own?" Weston asks, turning to me. I give him puppy dog eyes not wanting to turn down an offer of food. He laughs a little at me getting up and walking to the counter. I watch his retreating figure, his band tee hugging his muscular back. The black vans on his feet and his black jeans complement his outfit. A hand waves in front of my face.

"Ror, stop checking the guy out," Levi laughs.

"I wasn't checking him out," I scoff, crossing my arms.

"Mk" is all he says in return, which an eyebrow raised.

"He is chill, I like that, and he isn't quiet around us the way he is in school." Kennedy points out.

"See, I don't know where you guys got all being quiet stuff, he acts nice around me."

"Wait he is coming back." Kennedy says in a hushed tone.

"There you go." Weston says.

I shoot him the biggest smile just before taking a sip. But he stops me. "Uh uh ah, I bought it so I get the cherry." He says with a big smile before snatching the cherry off of my shake. He laughs loudly before eating the cherry off the stem. I give him a pouty look before drinking up. "Meanie." I mumble under my breath.

Levi and Kennedy snicker at us across the table. I give them a quizzical look.

Levi says, "Girl, you already drank half the shake already." I look down at my cup. Well shit.

Kennedy looks out the window beside us before getting excited in her seat.

"I've got our boards in my trunk and the sunset is perfect. Can we go for a ride."

"A ride?" Weston asks, confused.

"Ohh shitt." Me and my friends say in unison.

"We have to make him do it."

"Do what?" He asks, still confused.
