The Cafe

"Dexteria, I expect you to behave," Daniella reminded.

"Yes, ma'am," Dexteria, Dex, sighed to the adult who played at being her mother. "I will," she mumbled to the ground.

"Have a good first day," Daniella reminded as the car door opened. Dex sighed and stepped out, her short red bangs dropping in her face.

"Right," she mumbled. She examined the gross looking private school, which her 'mother' had insisted she go to. Her brow raised disapprovingly.

The private school, Autumn High School, wasn't actually gross looking, quite appealing really to an outsider but this was Dex's first private school experience, though, she had every chance to. The walls were painted in fall colors but none too bright or dark, just matching. The trees that we're shifting in season matched the theme well. Dex grinned amusedly at a joke she thought of, I guess it can't be 'Autumn High' in winter? She snickered as she examined the rest of the outer building  A garden was well kept outside. An American Flag was hung proudly on a poll just outside the school. It was perfect, too perfect from the public school she had gone to. She liked those better.

"I heard we're getting a new kid in our class," a girl's voice spoke. Dex glanced at a group of kids.

"I heard it's a girl and her daddy's Kraig Soul and her mommy's Daniella Michelle," another girl mocked. Dex's face flushed.

"You mean the new sophomore is the Dexteria Soul? Wait, doesn't she have a really hot older brother?" Another girl squealed. Dex turned and walked into the school quickly. A pit was grinding her stomach, she couldn't wait for the day to be over.

Homeroom was the easiest class, except that everyone wanted to talk to her and she just wanted to work. She was polite, though, holding conversations and being sweet as always. She did what she had been taught, politics. Her teacher was a lot more poise than her classmates, all of them were.

Lunch was the best time of the day, she escaped then, to the roof. Up there it was clear and calm. She sat on the ground furthest from the door, by the gate of the roof. It was most comforting there. The kids down below didn't see her but she could see them, it was better that way. Dex fumbled with her phone while she laid back. She covered the sun with her phone as she taped her phone. A cheesy smile was sprawled across her face.

"Ello love," a voice hummed through her phone. "Why are you calling me so late?"

"Sorry, Diz, I forgot," Dex smiled sympathetically.

"Why is it so bright?" Diz whined. His brown-ish red-ish eyes winced.

"I'm on my school's roof, what time is it?" She asked.

"Uh... 9:30..." He mumbled.

"How is that late Mr. French?" Dex mocked.

"I went to bed at eight," Diz laughed awkwardly as he rubbed his neck. Dex gave him an unimpressed look. "I have exams tomorrow!" He whined. Dex smiled amusedly.

"Then I'll let you sleep, I'm sorry I woke you," she smiled amusedly. "Be safe cuz, don't get too Frenchy." She mocked. Diz smiled amusedly.

"Au revoir," he waved. He winked teasingly. "Later love," he ended the call. Dex sighed softly.

She turned off her screen and rested her phone on her chest. The blinding sun irritated her sensitive eyes. She rested her hand on her face to block it out. Her phone buzzed. She checked it. She beamed as she answered her phone.

"Hi, Bella!" Dex cheered into the phone.

"Hey, Dex, how's Autumn?" Bella asked.

"Kinda slow... really boring. How's Jefferson, kids missing me?" She grinned slyly.

"The art department sure is, especially theater," Bella whimpered. "Are you still gonna help us with the set?" She pleaded.

"Definitely! I just can't in my uniform, I forgot my change of clothes so I can't today. Wanna meet up for food today?" Dex offered. "I'll pay!" She beamed with hope.

"Sure, D," Bella giggled. The lunch bell rang.

"Hey, I have to go, I'll text you later." Dex stood and hung up her phone. She shook off her class jacket and headed to class.

The day was slow, the classes blended together. The walls and rooms seemed to as well. Dex wasn't impressed. She was glad when the day was done, she headed straight to the cafe she, Bella, and Maria were meeting for food and snacks. Her friends were waiting outside the cafe for her.

"Dex!" Maria cheered.

"Sorry I'm late, the walk is way longer than I thought!" Dex laughed and waved. She walked up to them, and excited look in her eyes. Her expression changed to a confused one. Her head tilted. "What?"

"You're wearing makeup," Bella whimpered. She smiled proudly. Dex gave her an awkward look. She had forgotten the makeup. The only reason she had put it on was to cover the red mark on her cheek from being slapped and because Daniella had insisted.

"I guess I am, I totally forgot!" Dex laughed awkwardly as she rubbed her neck. Bella smiled in thought.

"Personally, I think you're way prettier without makeup," she informed. Dex grinned amusedly.

"Me too," Maria agreed.

"Thanks, guys," Dex giggled proudly. "I like me better without make-up too, Daniella wanted me too..." She informed quietly. Maria and Bella exchanged a disapproving look but smiled to Dex. "Let's eat!" She grinned. They went inside.

"Hello Dex, Bella, Maria, the usual today?" One of the waitresses, Aroma, asked.

"Yes please!" The trio beamed. aroma smiled and nodded.

"Your food will be ready shortly," she assured. She walked off and the group went to chat.

"So, how's Autumn really?" Bella questioned, leaning forward. she leaned on her hands and grinned slyly. "Anyone cute?" She grinned slyly.

"No, not really," Dex sighed. She smiled right after. "I mean, if you count me," she winked.

"Then there really is no one attractive," Bella teased. Dex sent her a smirk.

"Is that so?" She mocked Bella. "I'm sure you don't mean that?" She gave Bella a sly look.

"I did," Bella shrugged. Dex pouted, her pride was officially hurt. Bella smirked as the food arrived. They beamed and thanked the waiter then went to eat.

"Nah dude, the new kid in my class, Dexteria," Dex's ears perked at the mention of her name. "Totally hot, I'd smash," a boy beamed to his group of friends. Two were wearing the boy's uniform from Dex's school the other was in casual attire, assumingly from a public school. "And get this, her dad's the CEO of Soul Inc., cool right?" He smirked slyly. Bella and Maria gave Dex a concerned look. Dex was trying to ignore the chatter behind her as she wiped off her face with a napkin. She had already finished her sandwich. Her friends gave her an irritated look.

"Her brother's Rain, right? He went to our school a couple of years ago, he was in my brother's class." The other Autumn boy commented.

"Is her sister River then? Man, her sister is hot!" The public schoolboy added. That was about the point Dex got irritated.

"Hey, so, are you volunteering today, D?" Maria asked. Dex focused her attention on her friends. Her head shook.

"I can't because of my uniform, I don't wanna ruin it and by the time I get home, I'll need to study," Dex shrugged. She sipped her Rasberry Risk (totally not a ripoff name), tea.

"So you're free?" Bella grinned. Dex leaned on her closed fist.

"I just said I was going to study?" She huffed.

"There's no way Dexteria is hotter that River," the group behind her was arguing.

"Wanna go to the arcade?" Bella tried to drown them out. Dex studied her expression.

"Why?" She responded.

"To play games, duh?" Maria responded.

"There's always a catch with you two when we go to the arcade, what is it?" Dex responded coldly as she pointed at them. Bella and Maria exchanged an excited look.

"I got us really hot dates!" Maria beamed. Dex gave her an unimpressed look. "Please? Just for Bella and I? Please D?" Maria clapped her hands and begged from across the table. Bella joined her. Dex sighed.

"Yeah, okay," she agreed. Both girls paused to stare at her with surprise. "Just 'cause you both look pathetic doing that, though," Dex added. "What time is it at?" She sighed.

"Five!" Maria grinned excitedly. Dex glanced at the clock.

"I don't have to wear anything formal, yeah?" She asked harshly.

"It's an arcade, why would you?" Maria asked. Dex shrugged.

"Fair point," she agreed. "Well," she stood. "We better head out," she decided. Maria and Bella agreed. Dex left a tip on the table and followed Maria and Bella. They walked past the group of now embarrassed boys to greet the frigid air. Dex had smiled and waved to the trio as she and her friends left, mostly to mock the boys for talking behind her back. When she got outside she stretched and sighed with satisfaction. "Fall is the best!" Dex grinned childishly at her friends.

"Tyler's, five sharp, got it?" Maria asked Dex, who was about to part ways with Bella and Maria.

"I'll be there like I promised," she agreed. "Get home safe," she waved Maria and Bella waved and they parted ways.
