Epilogue;
4 years later~
You had finished whirring the tiny ornate spoon around in the two teacups as you ventured into the living room, smiling all the way as you were greeted by the low light and the warmth from the hearth.
It was an image you had seen countless times before; but still held dear.
Jacob and your son, perched in that high back arm chair by the flames.
Your son, Harry, had been yours and Jacob's mutual decision to adopt- seeing as conceiving a child at the age after you were married seemed slightly unfair.
Harry was a bright and kind boy; despite the abusive family he had escaped his own personality had been unscathed by the anguish, and yours and Jacob's love had only succeeded in making him an even kinder little boy.
"This porridge is too hot!" Jacob exclaimed in the voice of a squeaky girl, "and this is too cold! But this one... Is just right!" He said, his arms wrapped around his son and the book propped slightly on Harry's knees, as you watched him giggle away at his father's narrative.
"Your tea, Goldilocks." You smiled playfully as you set the cup down on the table before Jacob, and he looked at you with that smile.
A smile that told you he knew he'd found happiness, found the future he had always wanted with you. And it was beautiful to see that the sincerity in the curve of his grin and the glimmer in his eyes never faded- over all this time, he had always been so happy. And so were you.
"Read the next bit father!" Harry exclaimed, "I do like the part where the Bears come home!"
"Alright then," Jacob chuckled, "stop shifting young man, otherwise I'll gobble you up like father bear." He sniggered.
Jacob continued on with the story as you watched the animated expressions on his face, and the pure loving delight in Harry's eyes. It warmed you so to see them so close.
"And Goldilocks ran all the way home..." Jacob said slowly as he closed the book, "the end."
"Oh, I don't want it to be the end." Harry sulked, as you went to the chair and picked the boy of four up into your arms and held him at your hip, kissing his cheek.
"Even bears like you have to get some sleep." You smiled loving, blowing a raspberry on his cheek as he laughed. "Come along, time to get ready for bed."
Harry jumped out of your grasp with a smile and ran up the stairs towards his bedroom, as you went to follow him to double check he was washing his face correctly and cleaning his teeth.
When suddenly Jacob grasped your wrist and made you stop, and you spun on your heels and turned to face him.
"What is it?" You asked with a growing smile as Jacob got up from the chair and pulled you into his arms. Sometimes he would do it a lot, and you knew what he was thinking when he did.
He'd most likely be running over the events four years ago, and he would tell himself again how close he had been to losing you.
And so he would just envelope his arms around you and hold you close for a while, like he never wanted to let you go.
Smiling warmly, you too wound your arms around him and rested your head against his shoulder, breathing in his unique masculine scent that warmed your senses and brought you great comfort.
"I love you, Mrs Frye." He said in a gentle whisper, and your (eye colour) eyes cast down to the ring on your finger from all those years ago. All of the years of suffering and being apart and just wishing for something as beautiful as what you had now.
"And I love you."
There the pair of you stood, revelling in one another for a good few minutes.
That was one measure of how you knew you would last forever, because no matter how often you displayed your love for Jacob, each time felt like the same nervous butterfly feeling you had felt in the year of 1868 as a 19 year old girl.
And this time you knew there would be no heartbreak and no sadness to intervene.
Just love, a love that would last you an eternity.
