Chapter 4

Three Days Later...

It was a bright morning, that which the punctual rooster had announced the commence of what the day would be.

Temi who had a sleepless night woke up like a baby to the noise she heard. It wasn't the rooster's but that of Honorable Samuel's jeep.

She and grandma ran out as they met his driver awaiting them at their doorstep.

He was a very dark and a huge, tall man that was in his late thirties. He wore a gigantic kind of sunglasses even if the sun hasn't risen from the sky yet.

Honorable Samuel asked me to fetch you." He mumbled with his thick musculine voice. He didn't even bothering to greet... Temi eyed him disgustingly because she thought he it was mannerless for him not to greet Maami at least.

Tell him you didn't meet me at home. I'm not interested in collecting anything from your boss.

"Te-mi-la-de! Hey! God help me with this girl o!!" Maami raised her tiny hands up, facing the almost bright sky.
How many times would I warn you never to speak I'll of such a person. At least, not in front of his driver.

"Sorry, my son." Maami apologized. "Don't leave yet, She would join you as soon as possible."

Ranti held her grandma daughter's hands and pulled her back into the house.
Get ready my dear. Go and come back. I'm sure he would help us. Finally, God has accepted my prayers.

I've not gone yet and you're thanking God? Maami, listen. I'm going no where... Perhaps, isn't it rather too early for visits? Can't you see this man is a golddigger? It isn't proper, I mean. How can I face someone I despise so much?"

It's not as if you're going to a war, temi. Nothing is wrong in visiting a close relationship for financial support. The earlier the better, my child. God is with you my dear... You'll go and come back with good news, I promise.

"Okay, if you say so."

Temi walked into her room to prepare for the unexpected visit. Temi was reluctant to visit Honorable Samuel that morning but all because of her Grandmother. Temi put on her usual flowery-gown and packed her long dark hair onto a bun with a rubber-band.

Ranti watched how charming her Granddaughter looked that morning, she prayed, blessed and waved temi goodbye, hoping God Almighty would gradually change Honorable Samuel's heart and mind to help them without being greedy.

***

About a thousand butterflies was pitching in her stomach when she entered his pacific-like compound. In it was a sky-blue, titanic building that stood like it touched the sky. Only the Honorable lives there with his guards and coworkers. Temi heard that they were about twenty of them.

Well, that wasn't the reason she was here today. She quietly followed the body guard that lead her from the jeep into the mansion... Temi didn't turn to look around the compound. Even though she was awed and moved by the construction and the improvement of his house so far, she didn't utter any word or turn to anyone because He was a very greedy man to her. Someone she hated so much passion. Temi used to visit him along with her dad, but that was twelve years ago.

The body guards that were walking behind her were about to or three. It is crystal clearly that, Honorable Samuel was the richest man in their village. Not only that, he is very well connected both in and out of the town and he has been single since the death of his wife. Her name was Grace, she died with her unborn child in labour. It was pitiable yet, a lot of gossipers carried around town that he used both of them for retail to get wealthier.

After claimbing couple of stairs, They got to where the Honorable was. He was on a call with one of the most recognized politicians in Lagos when they walked in. A beam of smile flashed across his lips as he sighted them.

Immediately, he signalled the bodyguards to leave them alone. They all returned downstairs, leaving Temi alone with Honorable Samuel.

She waited patiently and after a while, he ended the call.

"Temi-temi! Fine girl..." He blushed lovingly at her, his old eyes, twinkling at the beauty standing before him.

"Good morning sir?" She greeted as Maami would have expected her to. "You ordered me here, why?"

"There you go again temi. You haven't visited me for a very long time now and you're asking me this? It isn't fair temi, and please, seat down."

She was baffled by the contradictions and omissions of his words and actions. She had no option than to take a sit. Of cause, it was his house wasn't it?

"I'm seated sir. I had to wash my cloths this morning, sieve the pap and prepare breakfast as well but I left all of those to come here. What is it you want, sir?" She asked.

Temilade looked so serious but Honorable Samuel laughed at her words instead. She looked so cute and admirable to him every time he saw her frown.  He loves her attitude for specifically no reason.

Samuel stood up from the executive chair where her was sitting and walked to where she was. Have sat very close to her with a generous smile. Instead, she moved away a bit, not wanting his body to touch hers.

"Tell me what the matter is and stop torturing me." She said but it sounded as if she mumbled.

"Please try not to mumble so I can hear you better. At least, I wouldn't bit you would I?" Honorable Samuel smiled at her innocence again and moved even closer.

She quickly stood up as she was tired of exercising the nonchalant attitude of his.

"What is it, Honorable. You ordered me into your house 7:00 a.m this morning... What do you want from me sir?!" Her sharp voice echoed within the room. Samuel dropped his smile since she wasn't calm. He decided to go straight into the point,, why he invited her into his house.

"Okay, the thing is... I've been longing to tell you this for years now but I thought... I had to give you time to be matured enough so it wouldn't be like I'm forcing, or rushing you into taking hard decisionsThe thing is... I love you Temi, I love you so much that I can't hide it from you any longer." Lost in his words, Honorable Samuel ended up staring into temi's chocolate-brown eyes that still sparked in his.

To him, they were like the sparkling night sky but the poor girl was already shivering in fear already. It was the first time in her entire life any one told her those three words... I love you. Temi stared at the glassy floor as if it would open up and swallow her up but nothing happened. The only sound heard was the sound of silence that reigned within the room. It looked so weird and awkward. Why would Honorable Samuel be interested in her of all people. Her mind imagined a hundred pictures pee minutes, of how she was by his side... Impossible.

"And how do you expect me to accept that sir?" She finally gathered courage to give him a reply.

Come on, I'm ready to help you, temi. I know things would become difficult for you, specially at this point in time when you got admission into University. In fact, you're so lucky. Do you know how many girls your age are dying to get an admission? Now, don't lose your opportunity of becoming successful in life my dear. As they say, opportunity comes but once." He moved to were she was standing and grabbed her arm but she flinched away. He swallowed and continued."If you accept to be mine, I promise to take care of you and your grandmother, forget about the past debts that you owe and provide the needful. He tried another move again but she scorned his romantic advances.

Samuel laughed for a while, temi blamed herself for coming to his house in the first place. If not for Maami?

Honorable Samuel then continued again.

"What I mean is, you're old enough to be in a relationship aand I'm sure you don't even have a boyfriend yet."

"Excuse me sir but I think it's rude to invade into my private life as if you're my father!" She stood up as she felt the bitterness in her mouth.

"I need to leave now." Her voice was surprise and eager.

"I need to hear from you soon. Else? There wouldn't even be enough time for you to think about it." Samuel said casually. He took her and and squeezed it. Temi held her breath for a while, her shaky eyes gazed at him but with a winkle.

"That is why I didn't remarry. I waited for you temi, I love you so much... Only of you'll understand." He muttered with a seriousness and sincerity in his eyes.

"That doesn't necessarily mean you should marry me. I'm old enough to be your granddaughter. Perhaps, I would never accept this, I can't believe you could be this shameless..."

Honorable Samuel moved closer and she took a step backward. As her heart stared burning. About a thousand butterflies was pitching in her stomach.

"Errrmmm... I need to go now." She swallowed, almost in tears.

"Let my driver drop you off."

"No, I have legs and I'm better alone..." She rolled her eyes at him and angrily left.

"I'll give you time to think of it..." He expanciated as she walked out without giving amy reply.

It was as if she was already in tears. Samuel smiled as she walked away, signalling his guards to let her go. He knew she understood his message already. What he needs now is feedback, to make a good communication.

"What an idiot!" He muttered to himself angrily and sipped alcohol from the tiny, glass cup before him.
and left.

Just then, he smiled again, and the smile grew into an evil laughter. It was as if her had a plan. A better plan to make her say yes to him without even thinking about it. A plan that would make her crave for his love....
