Family is Everything
Soos was flooring the gas of his pick-up, trying to get back to the Mystery Shack before the darkness of the apocalyptic nightmare following them comes crashing like a tidal wave.
"Can't this thing go any faster?!?" Mark-Anthony yelled over the wailing screams of the demons they passed. "Noooo..I just thought we needed to take it slow and watch the destruction of our world." Soos says sarcastically, which mostly surprised Dipper and Mabel, who had never seen Soos this irritated. "SOOS, JUST KEEP DRIVING!" Wendy now yelled at him. "On it!" The handyman says, immediately shutting up afterwards. Demons were one thing, but if he tried going up against an angry Wendy Corduroy...well she knows Gravity Falls the best out of anyone. She knows all the good spots for hiding a body.
"We're running low on the heavens ammo, and these non lethals are just pissing them off!" Giffany said with anxiety in her voice. She alone had the capabilities of locking on a monster in a split second and firing with near anti missile precision thanks to her high grade targeting system, but even she was starting to get overwhelmed with the immense number of demons. "How much further?!?" Dipper asked. "Not much farther, just keep them away for another mile!" Soos said frantically.
They rounded a corner onto a familiar dirt road, the path to the Mystery Shack. "Dipper, how do you know the Mystery Shack will be safe?" Mabel asked, fear evident in her voice. "Don't worry, Ford has to have put up some kind of defense against this...thing." Dipper tried to say with confidence but was drowned out by the wailing. Soon though they did come across the Mystery Shack and crossed into the parking lot, screeching to a halt. They then closed their eyes fearing the worst, but when they opened them the team saw a sort of force field around the perimeter of the shack. "See, I told you." Dipper said with relief, though mostly to himself because he honestly did not expect his plan to work.
"Okay, so now what?" Mystia spoke up, reminding everyone she was still there. "Now we figure out how to stop Bill!" They all heard behind them. They turned around and noticed Ford in the doorway on a crutch and holding his left side. Grunkle Stan was also there and was helping his brother walk. "Grunkle Stan, what happened to Ford?" Dipper asked quickly, concern showing on his face. "He was busy setting up the shield around the shack when a monster came out of nowhere and clawed his left side...it's starting to color." Stan said solemnly, but Ford brushed him off. "I'm perfectly fine Stanley, what worries me is what we're going to do when the shield breaks." Everyone went wide eyed with fear, "Don't you mean IF the shield breaks? Please tell me you mean if." Mabel asked, her voice still trembling.
"No...when!" Ford said as he pointed behind them. They all turned around, only to have their hearts immediately jump to their throats. Just as he said, there where cracks starting to show in the magical barrier, black wisps of smoke were starting to seep in. "They weren't this agitated before you guys showed up, it's almost like you..." but he trailed off once he noticed the clothes and the weapons strapped to their bodies. "I guess there's some things we need to discuss, everyone in the shack." He beckoned the team inside.
Once inside they all recounted the events of the past week; from the mall to the party, making deals with Bill, being trapped, killing the shapeshifter, Preston, and Gideon in that order, and to where they were now. "This certainly is a lot to process, it seems like all of this was meticulously thought out very considerably by Bill once he heard about Dipper's predicament, but what doesn't make sense is why he needed Giffany, Gideon, and the shapeshifter for his plans." Ford rubbed his temples, trying to concentrate. The wound that monster left was messing with his head and Ford had a sinking idea about what it was, but now wasn't the time to worry about himself.
"He never really explained anything, we just went along with whatever he said because he told us we would get what we wanted most if we did." Giffany said sadly, breaking into small sobs. "Bill can't be trusted, no matter how tempting he makes his deals." Ford lamented, remembering when Bill had tricked him so long ago. "We can't possibly go up against him now, we're out of the heavens ammo and last we heard McGucket was hanging in front of town hall by the entrails of his raccoon wife." Wendy said darkly, causing Ford to take on a sad look while everyone else looked for a trash can.
"Poor Fiddlferd, he never deserved the life of madness I forced on him, and now he's dead because of what I've caused!" It was always painful for Ford to think of the past, all the mistakes he made and was now responsible for. "Look, we just have to figure out-" Dipper was saying before being cut off by a loud cracking sound, almost like glass. "No no no no, not now!" Ford exclaimed panicked. He ran to the window and looked outside, his fears being realized.
The shear force of the demonic energy was overpowering the shield, the small hairline fractures not even ten minutes ago were now much larger and starting to chip away. "EVERYBODY GET DOWN!" Stan yelled out. Everyone braced for the worst.
BOOOOOM!
The sound of a thousand cannons going off all at once was what could closely be a similarity, not even destroying the doors of the Northwest manor was this loud. But strangely enough, when Dipper and the rest of the team opened their eyes, nothing was attacking the shack and nothing was making any sort of noise outside...sunlight was even streaming in. "W...what the hell is-...is that daylight?" Mystia asked bewildered, knowing for sure there we at least a couple hundred monsters out there just a second ago, not to mention it being the dead of night. "Is it over, did it even happen?" Rosie asked tentatively.
Soon they heard a knock at the front door and they all stiffened up. Stan tentatively arose from his chair and answered the door, not expecting a mailman to be standing there. "Stanley Pines?" the mailman asks impatiently. "Y...yes?" He answers in a mix of fear and confusion. "I have a package to Dipper and Mabel Pines. Please sign here." He says, holding up a clipboard and pen. Stanley signs and was handed a small, rectangular package as the mailman went about his business.
"Was...that a-" "Don't question it Dipper, I'm already confused enough already." Stan said while looking at the mystery package. It was flat and felt solid inside of the package, but still made Stan reluctant to open it. "Well, what is it Stanley?" Ford asked, a look of curiosity playing in his eyes. Stan was still hesitant but ripped open the package to find a tablet device along with a note that said "turn on". "I don't like this." Stan said, "But do we have a choice in the matter, let's play it and see what happens." Dipper said, trying to make it look like he wasn't scared.
Stan turns on the tablet, and was immediately greeted with the smarmy, smug gaze of Bill Cipher.
"Hello worthless meat sacks, I bet you're wondering what the new master of reality is doing by calling you all up. Well as you've noticed I've taken complete control of your world all thanks to that little kissing incident by the lovely Candicine Shiu," this comment made Candy go red with anger as she gripped the handle of the foil so hard her knuckles turned white. "But, I've decided to be fair sport about all of this and have set up a little contest to let you...attempt to reclaim your little world." Everyone was paying close attention at this point, they leaned in closer to the screen.
"Enclosed in this package is a special key that gives you access to what I call my 'Castle of Madness', where you can finally fight for your right to die!" He said before laughing maniacally. "What key?" Wendy said as she picked up the package and looked inside. "This key miss Corduroy." The Bill on the screen said. Suddenly his hand reached through the screen of the tablet and produced a very simple key that could go to an ordinary house. Everyone then quickly backed up from the screen in fear, Stan even dropped the tablet which began to shake. "AHAHAHAHAHAAAA!" Bill laughed as the once considered tablet grew legs and a mouth, hissed at them, and jumped through the window.
"Well...that happened." Mystia states aloud. She was immensely creeped out, but after all she's seen on just the car ride over here it was safe to say that she had become rather numb. She then looked down and picked up the key, "So I'm guessing, and I'm only spit-balling here, that we have to go fight the evil triangle now?" "You'd be right," Dipper said sternly, he began counting the remaining ammo, "We have to go after Bill if Gravity Falls, no, the world, is even going to have a chance to survive." He explained. "But he's too powerful, what if..." Rosie had trouble getting the next few lines out, "What if he kills you, or Pacifica for that matter?!?" She said, tears were starting to prick her eyes. "Rosie," Pacifica said, making Rosie turn towards her, "I promise you that I'll come back, I won't let that freaky triangle lay a finger on me." She tried to reassure the distraught maid, "None of us will let him harm Pacifica, not now or ever." Candy stated firmly, a determined smile on her lips.
Everyone started nodding their heads in agreement. All except Ford, who kept wincing in pain. "Dipper," Ford whispered at his great nephew trying to get his attention. "What's up Gruncle Ford?" Dipper asked, "I need your help with something." Ford said vaguely as he led his nephew away from the group and down to his secret study. Once there Dipper started to get nervous, "Uh, Gruncle Ford, can you tell me why you brought me down here?" Dipper asked, his voice started to waver. Then Ford went into a drawer and pulled out a sleek black pistol and aimed it towards Dipper. "Wait, Gruncle Ford, what are you doing?!?" Dipper yells in surprise, raising his hands in surrender. But Ford flips the gun after a moment of silence suspense and hands it to Dipper. "Gotcha didn't I?" He says amused, but Dipper's heart was still beating a rapidly. "Yes you did, but please don't do that to me again!" Dipper said as he took the gun.
Ford had a look of humor before instantly going back to serious. "Dipper, the reason I asked you to come down here is that you're the only one who can see a situation and determine the best course of action, even if it's a dark course, that will benefit the people around you...just like me." He stated calmly but his voice was taking on a raspy tone. "Yeah I guess so, but-" "Dipper, will you do whatever it takes to protect the ones you love?" Ford asked impatiently. "Yes, I will." Dipper said which made his great uncle smile. "Good, then I want you to kill me." He said like it was something perfectly natural, like a typical Sunday conversation you would have when going out for coffee, but Dipper in that split second looked horrified, his stomach rolling in disgust. "Y-you want me to do what?!?" He asked incredulously. Ford looked sad as he lifted his shirt, revealing a blackened wound. "I don't think I need to tell you what this came from." Dipper went wide eyed with disbelief, he didn't want to believe what he was seeing. "The toxin of the Spriggan-wraith; no identifiable cure, administered either by bite or scratch, will deteriorate my mind until I'm an empty servant of darkness." Ford explains solemnly, looking at his distraught but defiant nephew, "It will work faster than any cure can be developed, I'll be gone within the next hour."
"The only way to properly kill me and effectively the spread of the toxin is to sever the connections between my brain and the rest of my functioning systems. The problem being that you must hit a specific spot on the cranial cord that will permanently destroy any chances of the toxin actually reaching my brain, but it's a very narrow target and the metal plate inside my head only makes it that much harder to hit." Ford kept explaining, but Dipper was still shaking from the task given to him. "Why can't you have Grunkle Stan do it, he's your brother after all!" Dipper asks, not knowing what else to say to get out of committing murder.
"While Stanley likes to act with an unusual about of bravado, deep down he's got too soft of a heart and would never do anything to harm his brother. That is why I'm entrusting this to you, Dipper." Ford looked at his great nephew/protege, how much had this kid been through just in one summer that he had to go a lifetime learning just to find the author of the journals, find out it was his uncle, and then have to kill him? Ford truly felt sorry for him, though he couldn't say he felt quite the same level of emotion Dipper was feeling due to the creeping effect of the toxin and his own professionalism towards these kinds of situations.
Dipper was starting to tear up but he brushed them away. "Wh...where do I aim it at?" Dipper tried to ask confidently. "Just below the nose, it wouldn't be a pretty sight to see in a coffin but at least you'll know you're safe...er." Ford said, implying the conditions of the world as of now. Dipper and Ford nodded in agreement as Dipper raised the gun and cocked it back. "See you on the other side Dipper." Ford said, doing a full six-fingered salute to his nephew, knowing that the world was in good hands now.
BANG!
Once back upstairs, Dipper looked at Stan with a solemn gaze. Stan nodded in begrudging acceptance, already guessing the events that took place. "I'm going after Bill, hopefully to end this once and for all." Dipper spoke loudly to get everyone's attention, "I'm not forcing anyone to go, to fight a demon, to risk their lives, or to know that your friends may die. What I am forcing you all to do is think about what might happen if we don't go out there, what will happen to the people of Gravity Falls and the world if we don't stop Bill. I know all of you are scared but so am I and look at what I'm doing, spending what's left of my summer vacation to fight a dream demon straight out of a geometric nightmare! I'm not forcing anyone to go, but I'm asking for one final adventure before summer ends."
Dipper looked around, not knowing if his cheesy hero speech did any good or not. Then Giffany got up, "I've got business with Bill and you just so happen to be going up to kill him. Might be the perfect time to ask some much needed questions." She said firmly. "If ever there was a time to kick some demonic ass now is the place and time, I'm in." Wendy said in a confident fashion. Soon everyone began getting up except Stan, even Rosie agreed to go. "I can't exactly stop Pacifica from following you but I'm sure as hell not leaving her alone with you! Besides, I'm the only one here with nursing practice and I don't expect fighting a demon to go that smoothly." She said matter of factly. "I'm afraid this old body will just slow you all down; I'll attempt to figure out how to put up some kind of defense on the shack so you two have a house to come back to." Stan said with determination.
Once everyone was situated, Rosie with more manageable clothes and given a gun to protect herself with, they all got back in Soos's truck and headed off to find Bill in the once peaceful town of Gravity Falls.
