We Started a Rebellion

Kayley and Chris enter the mines heading to their personal work area. It was the deepest part of the mines it was off to the side away from everyone else working. Everyone there was in such terrible conditions it was depressing and sickening. Kayley had asked one of them some questions to see how they might have tried to escape in hopes to not make the same mistakes. As they talked all the only thing Kayley could remember was something she hoped to never see again. Their eyes were empty there wasn't a fire burning inside them that normally should be there. The flame of ambition to succeed, the flame of desire, the flame of interest, the flame that brings inspiration and creativity, and the most important flame of all; the flame of hope. It was gone and showed signs of being lost forever.

When they didn't look at their eyes they could see why the flame was gone. Similar to the olden times when people were in terrible conditions from working in the mines, it was the same here. If you were a doctor or doctor in training you could easily realizes the people there were dying. The mines were deafening, everyone was either banging on rocks or taking a break having a coughing fit instead. It doesn't help that at least one person dies while they are at work everyday. The worst was watching a body drop to the ground morning over the dead friends. There was no positivity in the mines.

Kayley and Chris were losing enthusiasm and hope. They only had each other to hold on to, otherwise they were looking more and more like the other people in the mines."Chris...Chris how-how are we going to get out of here?.........Chris, you listening," Kayley asked resting from chopping away at the rocks.

Chris stopped looking at her. He was grateful he could still the flame of determination in her eyes. He smiled at her causing her face to reddened. "Kayley I think today was the day of the dance," he stated not responding to her questions. Her eyes filled with worry, softening as she walked towards him.

"I-I think you right, but we can't go until we get out of here."

He sighed. "I know that, but umm maybe when we get back to our 'room' could we maybe pretend were at the dance fir a little bit," He asked watching carefully. Her eyes widened and a grin appeared on her face as she nodded eagerly.

"Let's do it," Kayley was desperate for a distraction.

They worked quietly and quickly to get the work done. Both smiling to themselves excited for what was to come. Sadly all good things come to an end. A scream of fear echoed through the mines making Chris and Kayley's head snapped towards the noise curiosity surging through them. This scream was striking from any of the other screams they had heard down here this one was pure terror and fear. This wasn't the cry of a loss of a son of daughter, this was something much worse

They edge towards the entrance of the mines to take a peek to see what was going on. A guard was holding a girl by the hair, she looked to be around ten years old. A guy who looked like he could be her dad was being held back by the other miners. The second guard was giving a lecturer to everyone about something, Kayley and Chris couldn't make out. It was in that moment Kayley realizes there was something everyone in the Anguis Vassalage held on to and it was the person in the same cell with them. She could us this to get them to fight back, find hope, and get out of here. However, the guards seemed to know that too. This was how a fight against hope.

Finishing the speech the guard pulled out his sword walking slowly towards the girl. Fear and terror was radiating off of the miners. Chris and Kayley glanced at each other coming to a quick silent agreement. They raced towards the guard. Chris stopping the guard from swinging the sword and killing the girl. They began fighting for control over the blade. Chis held onto his pit axe using it to deflect each swing of the sword.

Kayley reached the other guard punching him in the face. He yelped releasing the girl holding his nose. Quickly the guard got over the pain glaring he drew his sword and swinging it at Kayley. She ducked barely missing the blade. She sprung back up flinging an upper cut towards the guard stumbling backwards his sword skimming Kayley's arm. Her arm burst in pain but she ignored it grinning at the guard. He had the advantage with his sword but Kayley had gotten in plenty of street fights in her lifetime to be able to handle this. They swung at each other, the guard moving expertly and Kayley swug with a goal in mind but still recklessly. The guard always having the upperhand, but Kayley had her fire flaring brightly.

Getting a good swing in she got the guard away from her raising it highly for all the miners to see. "Miners, I know all may seem lost and there might seem to be no point in fighting," Kayley shouted staring feriously at them. She glanced behind her the guard racing towards her. She jumped off her rock racing away from him. Keeping her voice loud she continued to yell to them. "However, We're not asking you to fight for just yourself. Look around you: these people are going to die whether that's now or later. If we join together right now we can stop this life death and misery and rise to the light and hope. Take up your axes and show them their mistake for giving us weapons and making us use them everyday."

The miners cheered raising their axes turning and attacking the incoming guards that had come to check out what was going on. Kayley flipped around attacking her buddy the guard once again.

Chris kick the guy in the shins getting hold of the sword. Having no real experience with a blade he swung randomly at him hoping to lay a hit that wouldn't kill him, but unlucky for him the guy dodge each strike expertly. He kicked Chris's hand sending the sword flying and landing near Kayley. She picked it up and began fighting the guard back with her own sword. This left Chris and the guard to fight hand to hand combat, something Chris knew a bit more about.

Hearing the commotion more guards came to help out but the miners were ready and attacked using the pit axes as a weapon. Soon a whole fight broke out. Miners against the guards and it was hard to tell who was winning. A guard sneaked around the action and towards Kayley raising the sword over his head.
