Sisters

Kayley placed a couple more outfits that she owned into the suitcase along with some of her favorite medical books getting ready to leave. She didn't know how she felt about going to this unknown school but she did know she was ready.

The school started October first and today was September twenty ninth. She would be leaving tomorrow on an endless airplane ride that the school was thankfully paying for. Apparently there were other people who lived in the same area and would be joining her at the school on the endless plane ride.

Kayley stretched walking around her hospital room making sure she had grabbed everything she needed. When she had tripled checked she took a deep breath and got ready for bed. She slowly fell asleep readying herself for the days to come.

Kayley sat in Alex's cars as she drove her to the airport. She fiddled with her fingers watching the scenery flash by. Kayley could fill all of the doubt swarming throughout her head. "Alex," Kayley asked glancing at her. Alex hummed in response so Kayley continued, "What if this isn't a real place? What if it's just some big prank? What if I don't actually have a power and they got the wrong person? What if I'm not what they are looking fir? What if I don't make any friends?"

Alex chuckled rolling her eyes. "You will be fine. The only thing you should worry about is the amount of enemies you will make," she teased shifting lanes.

"WHAT!!!!" Kayley screeched slinging forward eye wide. Alex laughed at Kayley's reaction. Calming down a little Kayley shot Alex a death glare.

"I'm teasing Kaz," she said, shaking her head smiling.

Kayley folded her arms angrily. "Sure," she said rolling her eyes.

"But on a more serious note, how many enemies do you think you will have by the end of the school year," Alex joked noticing the airport was now in site.

Kayley glared at her again before thinking about it. "I won't have any enemies because everyone will love me," Kayley said confidently smirking a little.

"That's the exact attitude," Alex said patting her on the back keeping on arm on the steering wheel. They fell into silence watching as the airport became more and more into view.

Few minutes later Kayley muttered, "One."

"Huh," Alex asked unsure what she said.

Kayley cleared her throat speaking louder, "One. I will make at least one enemy." Alex couldn't stop herself she was thrown into a fit of laughter. She clutched her side with one arm gasping for air. Kayley smiled knowing she would miss her best friend.

Alex parked close to the bus stop that would take them to the airport. They each pulled a bag waiting at the bus stop. Neither said a word not wanting the goodbyes to come anytime soon. The car ride was silent with Kayley looking out the window not daring to look at the friend she would soon be leaving.

Kayley and Alex stared at each other neither brave enough to say goodbye. Kayley could sense her throat began to tighten as she tried to stop the tears that she knew would began to flow.

She took a shaky breath before stepping forward bracing herself in Alex's arm. She hugged tightly not wanting to ever let go. Alex was doing to same thing. They both clung onto each other like their lives depended on it. They both glazed watching a little video of some of their best memories.

"I've got you Kaz," Alex said running her hands through her hair on the third day since her mother hadn't shown up. Kayley laid there peacefully letting her breath fall into a calm pattern.

"I've come to a decision Kayley!" Alex shouted coming into Kayley's room excited. Kayley looked at her, Alex's energy becoming Kayley's. "I headed to court on Friday and now I am your legal guardian!" Kayley's jaw dropped and tears filled her eyes as she gave her a tight hug.

Kayley placed her head on Alex's shoulders as the tears began to flow. Kayley's body shook as she finally let the tears fall freely. "I-I don't want to go," she cried into Alex's shirt pulling her even tighter into the hug.

Alex rubbed her back in circles trying to calm her. "I know you don't, but this is good fir you," Alex said softly, Kayley hiccuped nodding into her shoulder, "You need to let go it's time fir you to leave and I need to go to work."

Slowly and caringly she peeled Kayley's arms off of her giving her a weak smile. Kayley attempted to smile but she only ended up crying even more. "I'm gonna miss you," she sniffled out wiping her tears away and taking in a deep breath.

"And I'll miss you to," Alex whispered patting her on the shoulder. Before turning Kayley so they no longer were facing each other. "Now go show the world what you're made of."

Kayley nodded taking another deep breath before pulling her face into a big confident grin. She took a few steps before Alex called out to her. "Be sure you write to me every once and awhile."

"Okay," she said, glancing back and waving her grin grew bigger. "See you soon sis." Kayley took two more steps before running back and giving her a last minute hug. Off Kayley headed ready to explore the unknown world.

Alex watched as Kayley walked with her head held high with a smirk on her face showing the world she was ready. Alex wanted to give another hug but she couldn't.

Alex frowned as she saw Kayley stop and turn around waving drastically at Alex the making the 'I love you' sign.

Alex smiled brightly raising her own hand in the same sign. She loved Kayley, she was like the younger sister she always wanted. Kayley had grown so much in the past few months it was incredible. She still remembered the first time she had met her.

It was her first day of work and Alex was asked to make sure patient number fifteen was doing okay. She knocked on the door before letting herself in. She walked into a tiny girl with bright red orange hair coloring on the wall.

"What are you doing!" Alex yelled panicked. She stormed towards the girl yanking the markers out of her hand and glaring at her.

"Well before you stopped me I was making a pretty picture." the redhead said rolling her eyes.

"What are you three," She shrieked placing the cap back on the markers that has been thrown carelessly around the floor.

She sat back down on the bed, her bright apple green eyes staring at Alex. "No I'm ten. How old are you," she asked grinning stretching out her arms.

"I'm twenty," She said rolling her eyes getting out the blood pressure reader out. The redhead extended her hand out ready for it. Alex proceeded to do other normal test and the girl didn't ask any questions simply got in the position she would need to be in. "Thank you fir cooperating," Alex said sweetly and she simply shrugged.

"What's your name nurse lady," she asked as Alex packed up to leave.

"I'm Alex Torres. What's your name," Alex asked genuinely.

"I'm Kayley, Kayley Anderson, nice to meet you. Could you do me a favor," Kayley asked sitting crisscross even though she was in a hospital dress. Alex shrugged not seeing the harm in doing a favor for the girl. "Could you let me call my mom," Not see the harm Alex shrugged grabbing the telephone and bring it towards Kayley. "Thanks," Kayley said smiling at her before typing a number in. "Hello?... Oh hi this is your daughter Kayley....Just wondering when you will be visiting again....oh okay, well they said I'm doing well so I could leave the upcoming time you come isn't that exciting...mom-mom...Bye." She placed the phone down frowning.

Unable to stop herself Alex asked, "What wrong Kayley? When will she be visiting,"

Kayley sighed looking at Alex smiling softly. "She will be visiting after she gets married again and after her honeymoon and after she moves to who knows where and finally remembers me," Kayley said smiling flinging her arms around crazily. Alex found herself frowning herself.

Alex said goodbye closing the door. She continued throughout the rest of the day doing what she was told but she couldn't get her mind off the poor ten year old sitting around in room fifteen. When they had nothing for her to do. She found some kids books and decided to bring it to Kayley so that she could have something to do.

Alex sighed at the memory before shouldering her purse and leaving the building knowing everyday wouldn't be the same without Kayley around. Kayley had gone through so much school should be the easiest challenge.

Kayley enter the private plane, meaning only the people who would be going to the school would be there. Not looking at the others inside she took a seat in the back and pulled out The Heart And How It Works By: Rickey Sue Ross.
