Chapter Five - Iris
When I awoke Apple had placed a cup of steaming hot cocoa on the nightstand, the same colour of orange wood as the bed and the panalling on the wall of little indent of the room that my bed was tucked away in. I could tell my the amount of light coming in that it was around noon. Lifting my head slowly, I tossed the blanket off my legs. The same pale skin as Apples'. Now that I knew we were sisters, I couldn't stop seeing all the thing we had in common. The same skin colour, we had the same necklace on, the same height, and dark eyebrows. But there still was differences, like her hair colour, eye colour, and her voice was so much higher than mine was. I sat up taking full view of of the room around me. The front had two large windows, the walls were painted black and a small round olive green rug was in the center. Weapons lined the walls. There were swords, pistols, knives, axes, and a large punching bag in the middle. I sighed, breathing in the cool air, settling my stomach. Reaching down along the bed frame for my boots, I noticed that a circular red rug was laying flat against the hardwood floor. I slipped on my boots, noticing the rumbles of hunger in my stomach. Trusting myself to stand, I made my way to the door, turning the knob, and exiting. The walk back to mess hall wasn't an especially long one. But it felt long because of the constant rumble of hunger in my stomach.
The moment I burst through the large mess hall doors, I could smell Apple's perfume.
"Over here," called Apple, who changed back into her light pink dress, with a darker pink apron, her short hair down. She waved her hand widely, standing up slightly. Liam looked at me worried and curious. I made my way over to the wooden table, plopping myself down across from the pair.
"Where did you go last night? You just disappeared," asked Liam hurriedly, clearly worried. I had no idea what to say. Apple took me back to her place in a very creepy and sketchy way to tell me that I am her sister and that I have another one named Elouise. And we are now striving to find our mother, father and our long lost little sister. While being chased by an evil uncle named Net from my dads' side. Luckily I didn't have to say anything. Apple spoke up for the both of us.
"Tess reassigned us, to lifting the crates of food into the diner. They were so heavy. It was exhausting! Practically child labor! Isn't that right, Iris?" Liam raised his eyebrow, studying my face.
"Yeah," I mumbled looking down into my palms.
"Why didn't come back to the apartment afterward?" questioned Liam.
"Apple and I had a sleepover, I was just so exhausted. Her house was closer, and we figured why not just spend the night. She woke up early and I wanted to sleep in and not rush to get ready," I lied again, this time looking at Liam's face.
"Oh, okay," said Liam joyously bouncing back into his lunch time grove. "By the way, last night Cara was assigned a little girl named, Elouise. But I offered to take over the duty, because you could tell that she would be mentally scarred after her stay with Cara." Apples eyes bulged out of the socket, and my heart skipped a beat. Elouise! My breathing became rushed, and the world started to spin, but I pulled myself together, and smiled.
"Great, she can sleep in the guest bedroom. Where is she?" I asked, hoping that Apple would keep the same calm approach. Liam nodded the pointed at a small girl in the food line. Her hair was blonde, curly like mine and Apple's. She was wearing a light blue apron and white dress that floated outwards, landing at just above knees. The same pale skin and bony structure like Apple and I's could be seen easily. I could spot the little silver clasp of a necklace sticking out of her hair, longer than mine. The same necklaces Apple and I were wearing. Apple and I gasped together.
"How long is she staying with you," inquired Apple breathlessly.
"I don't know. About a two weeks, but she could potentially be drafted for the army," answered Liam robotically. Elouise took two tacos, sprinkling cheese on top, then turn around tip toeing back to our table. Her face looked like mine, without a dent in her chin. Her eyes were brown like mine and had the same dark eyebrows as Apple and I. Her nose was something of a mystery, Apple and I had the same noses but Elouise had the opposite of ours. Apples' and I's nose was quite pointy, but hers was stubby, small and round. Her face was warm with rosy cheeks, unlike Apple's and mine. Her thin lips matched Apple's perfectly.
"If you guys ever need a babysitter, just come talk to me. She looks like an angel," offered Apple sweetly. Liam nodded along, but was focusing most of his attention on me. I sucked in a breath twisting back round to face Liam.
"Apple is right. She looks like an angel," I said softly.
