Chapter 20. Two hearts at sunrise

{Location: The Cursed Realm}(Lloyd's POV)

I am not use to bringing up the rear, but I am also not use to Morro leading either. All my gut instincts are shouting, hey noodle brain. Baddie twelve O'clock. What are you waiting for? But if this is the only way to get back to Willow, so be it.

"Welcome to Forethought Forest." Morro states as I notice dark trees and dark grass. Unlike the rest of the realm, there is no hint of green, it was just dark.

"Is there a less ominous Forest of Forethought we could try?" Jay asks as he fiddles with his hands.

"Sorry, this is the only one." Zane looks as the map. No one wants to go in first, so we all ended up staring at Morro.

"Why are you staring at me?" Morro asks in a deadpan voice. Hmm..bad choice of words.

Kai burns a hole into his spirit, "How do we know this isn't a trick for you to possess Lloyd again?"

Morro runs his temples like we're a headache, "Yeah. You got me. It's a total trap. Not at all like I wouldn't have possessed him as soon as I saw you? Because why take the easier road when I can let you all eat my food and use my weapons."

Again, Morro's doing the unexpected. Maybe he isn't a monster. Wait a second, why didn't he possess me as soon as he saw me? Why isn't he trying to now?

Zane looks at the forest, even our robot is unurved, "Perhaps we can argue later. We have an objective to meet."

Kai moves to the forest with his hands on fire. "You got a point, the sooner we start, the sooner we finish...and then we can keep arguing."

I know that we are in the Cursed Realm, which is basically the creepiest place ever. But something about this forest sends shivers up my spine and makes goosebumps on my skin. Little whispers from the leaves chatter like bats. No sign of life is apparent other than Kai's fire.

"Anyone remembering anything?" Nya asks as she scoots over to Jay.

"Just useless things. Like where my fifth-grade projects were, or how many mayors Ninjago city has had." I huff in frustration.

"Oh, so that's where I left my Storm Glider keys. I should have known that." Jay giggles a little, in attempts to lighten the mood.

"Ya know that you don't have to win me something Greenie." I feel my heart race as Willow's voice appears and echoes in the forest.

"Willow?" Cole calls but nothing answers.

"Check that out." Kai points behind me and snuffs out his fire. I turn to see a large T.V. like screen. Except it was through my eyes instead of seeing everyone.

"A memory." Zane strokes his chin.

"Lloyd, keep thinking of Willow, maybe it'll play or something." Jay smiles as we finally catch a break.

I've got to focus. I block out all outside noise and the memory plays on.

"Ugg. Stupid game." Past me tosses a ring on a fat-necked bottle. Around us, the noises of a street fair were loud but I could only see my Rosie.

"These games are rigged Greenie. And we're about to run out of money." Willow looks down to hide her face as I try again.

"Nonsense, I'm the Ultimate spinjitzu master, I can beat a silly carnival game." I toss my last ring and miss. "Shoot."

Willow shakes her head a little and pulls out a wallet, "I guess it's a good thing I swiped this off of Kai." She pulled out a twenty and paid the attendant. After looking over her shoulder, she places her hand over mine and sends me strength. My next toss is a winner and the attendant pulls out a green heart necklace with a rose on it.

"No fair, Rosie. It doesn't count if you help me." I shake my head as I collect my prize.

"What? No one saw me and I would like money to try funeral cake. That's what's it's called right?" Willow frowns at her mistake, I don't like it when she frowns, she should be happy even in her outfit. Today she is wearing a grey blouse, denim jeans, and my green hoodie.

"Funnel cake, Rosie, and that sounds great." I hold up the necklace. "May I?"

Rosie turns and pulls her loses hair aside. My hands feel her cold neck as the clamps clip together.

"Thanks, Greenie." Rosie sounds happier than normal.

"No problem. Now let's get that cake before Cole dose." I let my hand fall into her's as we weave out way in and out of the crowd. We actually manage to get some funnel cake and ice cream when I notice a photo booth. "Come with me." I drag her in and activate the camera.

"What the heck is this thing?" Rosie taps the walls.

"It's kinda like a camera, except you get more than one picture. Hold still." I pose as the camera flashes. "At least get into the spirit of it."

"Make me." Rosie her frown sharpens but she did just dare me and I can't back down from a dare.

I pull her in and kiss her cheek as the second flash goes off.

"Like that?" I smirk as Rosie fights off twenty shades of blush.

"It's on, Greenie." Rosie grabs the inside of my shirt collar and the back of my head and pulls in for a full on lip on lip kiss as the camera goes off again.

A small ruffle hit the curation, "Found you!" Kai shouts as he and my brothers, Nya and Kit charge into the booth. I was a statue as the last camera flash happens.

Nya, not from my memory, gasps as we realize we have met Willow before but her movement distracts me. "Trippy!"

"Wait a sec, you all saw that?" I turn back to face my siblings. Smug smirks litter their faces.

"Oh yeah. And it's going to be over your head for a looooong time." Kai smirks the hardest.

"As soon as we get out of here at least. Right Morro? Morro?" Zane looks at Morro as he watches a similar T.V. of his memories.

"Can I have more of it?" A cute little angel voice asks a mean looking shopkeep.

"Get lost you, beggar." The shopkeep slams the door. Little Morro walks away, asking the same question to a couple of other people.

"Hey, it's the more of it kid." Two men begin taunting.

"What's the matter? Little baby don't have a family? Go the monastery, maybe one of the masters will put you out of your misery." The men laugh and walk away. Surprisingly little Morro did just that and starts digging through a trash can.

"More of it," Morro grumble as his hand got covered in slime. I hear trash cans tip and fall over. Morro comes out of the trash can and young Wu places a small plate on the floor. Morro grabs it and quickly eats it on a nearby rock. He finishes and comes back to the monastery door, "Can I have more of it?" Morro licks his lips and holds the plate up.

"You can have much more. What's your name child?" Wu take the plate and guides Morro into the monastery. Little Morro shrugs his shoulders. "Everyone should have a name. Can I call you Morro?" Wu smiles and opens a door with a small meal on the table.

"Why?"

"Because you just added more of you to my life." Wu smiles as little Morro digs in. The memory faded back into blackness.

Ghost Morro then stands stiff as he realizes that we've been watching. "What are you looking at?" Morro snaps and folds his arms.

"I didn't know you were a street rat," I speak first, without fear but pity in my voice.

"Somethings are better forgotten. Come on, let's not dwell on the past." Morro frowns and airjitzus above the tree line.

{Location: Ninjago}(Willow's POV)

"We're here." Misako's voice carries over the Bounty's intercom. The cold night air blows against my skin despite being in a desert now.

"Wonderful, now let's get started." Kit jumps over the ship's side onto a cliff top.

"What's it with you and always hanging around little kids who have too much energy?" Katara rolls her eyes as she walks off the ship onto a plank.

"Same could be said of you when we were younger," I smirk and follow her off.

"Whatever." Katara crosses her arms and looks down.

"I'm well aware of what time of year it is. And I'm still sorry about Roberto."

"He was my one. And now he is gone." Katara finally shows any emotion other than boredom, hate or anger.

"Sorry to disappoint but he isn't." Kit pipes up. Her eyes are white as her feet drew in the sand.

"What are you talking about? I don't tend to make a mistake."

"And I haven't had a wrong vision. Besides," Kit points down at her drawing, a scary accurate picture of Roberto in front of a portal stands there, smiling. But a small line leads into the portal behind Roberto. "I think you were looking in the wrong place."

"I didn't even...I.." Katara is at a loss for words as a breeze sweeps the picture away.

"Don't worry, your one is coming. I can't see much but I'm seeing a glowing heart at sunrise."

"Kit. Maybe this isn't the time." My boots land in the dirt. We didn't have time for true love now.

"Willow's right, we have a deal to do." Katara tries to regain her confidence as Wu and Misako walk off the Bounty.

"Then let us began." Wu brings out his baby blue tea pot and pours a little out. Katara begins her enchantment and a small speck appears in the air.

"This might take some time." I sigh as the speck blinks in and out of existence.

"But there is something else on your mind isn't there?" Wu strokes his beard.

"Yes. I spent my life hiding who I am. And now that I've reunited with Lloyd...well, how do you tell someone you met them. Fought with them. Loved them. Without scaring them?"

"Perhaps by just telling them the truth." Wu has a wise tone in his voice.

Great, the one thing I suck at. I let the quiet hum over us as Katara keeps trying.

{Location: The Cursed Realm}(Morro's POV)

The Green Ninja is right there. Take him now. The darker corners of my mind howl at me. No. I'm not the Green Ninja. And I can't even possess a rock if I wanted to. The Preepmiere took that power and I'm glad she did. I start a mental argument with myself as I glide through the trees. It takes the ninja a few more seconds as they get caught in the branches. They had some kind of argument as I could barely hear their voices through the thick trees.

"Finally, we're out of the woods." Jay smiles as we carefully walk on the tree tops.

"And into more trouble. Move." Cole points to the east and a mixed matched army of Ghosts, Snakes and few random people charge at us.

"Relax, we're on the high ground." Nya shrugs. Just then the army fires on us with bows.

"You had to jinx it." I bite back a stronger word as I dodge incoming fire.

"Argue later, we need to get out of here." Zane blasts two incoming arrows with ice.

"Agreed." Lloyd blasts them with an energy beam, "But where?"

"He's right. We're pinned down." Kai somehow opens up his left forearm and presses something.

Kai's a robot? No, that's just Zane. Right? I blow away arrows as Kai's arm start playing the Weekend Whip.

"Wrong button." Kai snickers and presses another button. A column of fire blasts out and the trees catch fire.

"And that makes our situation so much better." Jay jumps back from the flames.

"Look." Zane points to a portal opening up on the far side of the grove. "We can get out of here."

"First ninja there wins," Cole shouts. Some kind of competition started between the six of them. They all race, kick, spinjitzu, and punch their way to be the first. I actually have a little trouble keeping up with them.

"FIRST!" Lloyd snickers and stubs Gultar.

"Does that matter?" I flip off the last tree before it caught fire and land in front of Jay and Nya. "Just go. I'll hold 'em off." I pull out my weapon and swing it around. I hope my voice doesn't give away that I may actually be heading back to the...no. I hate thinking about that.

"What's going to happen to you?" Kai asked as he keeps blasting fire. Apparently, the idea of getting to safety escapes him.

"Me? I'm your enemy remember? There's no use of you looking out for me." I jump and wind slams on the ground, pushing baddies away.

"About that. I don't think Wu ever got you to this lesson," Cole grabs my shoulder with some kind of lava on his hand, "Ninja never leave another ninja behind."

"Ladies first." Zane courtesies to Nya, who jumps through the portal with Jay.

"Next time, age before beauty." Cole tosses me through the portal.

"WHOA!" I scream as Kai, Lloyd, Zane and Cole jumped in after me.

{Location: Ninjago}(Willow's POV)

"She did it." Misako wakes me up while screaming. My bleary eyes open up to see window size portal with green trimming. Jay and Nya land on their chests, I think a ghost fell in and through them as the sun comes up. After that, Kai, Lloyd, Zane and Cole all falling into a pile of limbs and grunts as they attempt disentanglement.

"You're alive. I was so worried." I feel myself step to Lloyd as he crawls out of the human disaster. Then I stop myself, He still doesn't know me. Hugging him would be weird.

"I never had a doubt about it." Kit smirk.

"Wait a sec, where's Morro?" Jay looks around him.

Underground a youngish voice with a salty attitude snaps, "You're sitting on me, Zap-Trap."

Jay moves and the spirit of a young man with a green stripe in his hair floats up. As Morro did so the sun rose and broke through the night. I look at Katara only to see her locked eyes with Morro. I follow her line of sight and end up looking at where Morro's heart would be. A faint red glow just disappears as the sun pops up.

"Look out Jezzie, we're back." Nya smiles as a round of high fives happen.

"We should get some food in you six. But first, we should thank the person responsible for your safe return." Wu point his staff at Katara.

"Everyone, this is my twin sister. Katara." I smile as the sentences leave my mouth. The first time I've done that in a long time.

We manage to cook breakfast and exchanged stories. Morro apologized to Wu about several things. Morro barely got through before Wu kneels down and hugs him. Lloyd keeps looking at me with a face that says, I may or my not remember something. Rosie.

"How long were we away?" Zane grabs a glass of water as we settle in the mission room.

"About a night. But we do have more pressing matters to discuss." Misako answers as the video feed comes up. On the screen was Phouka rearranging New Ninjago City.

"The Phoka have taken New Ninjago City but for some reason, they haven't spread to other near by cities and towns." Kit yawns. Poor thing has been up all almost night. "We have small signs of random activity near the Wailing Alps through."

"That doesn't make sense. I thought they wanted all of Ninjago." Cole stuffs waffles in his mouth as he said so.

"Jezzie did say something about preparing for the final battle. Maybe this has something to do with that?" I keep stoic, trying at the tactic of acting like I first did when we met.

"Oh wonderful, the Overlord's back. If we see Smookai, I'm gonna lose it." Jay rolls his eyes.

"I don't think we'll be worrying about him. But you Ninja do need at full strength for us to even possibly succeed. How about we start with sunrise exercise?" Wu presses a button as everyone moans.

"Seriously, that's still happening?" Morro leans back a little too far in his chair and falls through the floor.

"No complaining. We also have to bring up the spinjitzu cores for Willow, Kit, and Morro. Come, come." Wu double taps his staff.

[Ruffle around Noon.]

"Found it." I grab a dusty teapot.

"Finally." Katara closes the door behind her as I climbed down from the latter. "I've been here for six hours and all six of them are driving me nuts."

"Yeah, I've found that humans tend to do that." I pour water into the pot, "You know, you don't have to leave."

"Ninjago isn't my home. And home is where the heart is. And besides, I'd rather be in Trylle." Katara looks down for a brief second. Her tell.

"Whatever you say. I'm sure that Morro would be disappointed that you left." I smirk as I stir the travelers' tea. Katara blushes like a cherry tomato. "I've seen the way you look at him."

"No. I um...Fine. I may have a small crush on him. And if Kit didn't mention that stupid glowy heart thing, I wouldn't be feeling like this." Katara rubs her hands.

"You and I both know that's not how feelings work." I tap the spoon as I finish. "Maybe you should let your heart guide you instead of your vengeance."

"I do want to go home, but.." Katara looks at the door. "It's not a normal relationship even if he's my one. Even if I were to stay, he's a ghost, can't exactly do it." Katara sighs, "Then again, Trylle isn't much better."

"Oopsies." I spill the tea. "You better hurry before the portal disappeared." I talk in a false voice as a portal with rainbow trimming appears.

"You're right, sister. Must hurry." Katara replies in the same tone of voice. The portal disappears and she says no in the most overly dramatic way possible. "I guess I'll have to stay here. Oh well."

"I'm sure you'll fit right in." I pat Katara's shoulder. For once in my life, I may have two sisters instead of one.

{Location: Training deck}(Morro's POV)

"Focus Morro," Wu yells as I get hit in the face with an ax. Apparently, the spinjitzu course is made with deep stone.

"Sorry." I get up. I could tell I am distracted, and all my thoughts are about Katara. Holy hot, she seemed amazing. If I had a sole word to describe her, only striking could hold a candle to her.

"That's all for today. I'm going to check with Kit's progress with Nya." Wu gets up and I hear laughter behind me.

"Dasa vu anybody?" Kai snickers.

"Totally. But I didn't even wipe out like that." Jay cracks up as I roll my eyes.

"Mind telling the closest ghost what the secret is then?" I shake my head as the course disappears.

"Sorry Windy, but you're close." Lloyd snickers as he wipes his brow.

"Maybe Morro's a little distracted by a certain Fay." Cole wiggles his eyebrows.

"Let me think, does she has red highlights and a fiery personality?" Zane plays along as I feel my cheeks getting hotter.

"Am I that obvious?" I bite my ghostly lip. One second, the Ninja are looking at me funny, then they start cracking up. Stupid move. They were teasing.

"Oh my gosh, you do like Katara." Lloyd taunts in childish laughter.

"Maybe a little." I rub the back of my head.

"A little, you're blushing deeply as Kai's gi," Jay smirks.

"Ok, ok." I sigh heavily. "I like Katara a lot." My lips have to twitch up as we keep talking about her. What do I say? What do I do? The last major lady in my life was Bansha and she insisted on a platonic relationship.

"Don't worry, I can help you get any girl. You just need to know how to flirt." Kai smirks.

"Last time you tried flirting, Skylor hung up by your feet for twelve minutes," Zane argues as the five of them set their weapons away.

"And I tried some of your pick-up lines on Nya, I ended up tied to the Bounty's ruitor." Jay raises his hand and sparks fly.

"My advice, don't listen to Kai." Lloyd smiles at the silly situation.

"Hey." Kai protests.

"Alrealty following that advice." I smile, joining in on the fun.

"I'm right here!" Kai poutes.

"Kai, did you say something?" Cole giggles as we keep pushing Kai's buttons.

"Very funny. But just wait until the initiation." Kai smirks.

"Initiation?" I tilt my head.

"Something we started back at the Monastery. And now it's tradition to us to prank the newest person on board. It is actually quiet fun." Zane smiles mischievously. On a side note, never look at a Nindroid as he smiles like that. It only means trouble.

"And now we've got three targets. Oh, this will be a fun week." Lloyd rubs his hands like he is plotting.

"Oh no, how scary. I should run and seek cover." I say in a deadpan voice as Jay's stomach growls.

"That sounds like a demand for lunch. I'll be right back." Cole runs to the kitchen and worried faces cover the Ninja.

"Ok, initiate plan stuffed." Lloyd looks at the door as Zane opens his stomach flap. A half a dozen protein bars and snacks are cramped in there. Everyone grabs something.

"I thought Cole was making food, why are you eating?" I shake my head as Jay offers me some peanuts.

"And that's why," Kai pops some popcorn on his hand, "Cole's the worst cook in Ninjago."

"So we've planned small yet filling snacks so we wouldn't have to eat all of his food." Lloyd misses his mouth and gets a bar to the chin.

"It can't be that bad." I roll my eyes. This was probably the prank they were talking about.

Kai chews quickly as Cole comes back with a tray of plates. "If you had a choice between a plate of Cole's chili and a vile of Venomari venom, I'd pick the venom."

"Lunch is served." Cole smiles as everyone hid their wrappers. "It's not much but I think you'll like it."

"Don't smell it or look at it and chew quickly and you'll be fine." Lloyd whispers to me as Cole hands him a sandwich. I do what Lloyd said and a tingling sensation prickles around my nose and a scratches the inside of my neck as I swallow.

"Yum. Thanks, Cole." Jay looks ready to throw up.

"No problem. How's it is to the ghostly taste buds?" Cole looks at me like I am some kind of food critic.

"It's good. Only question, is there paprika in it?" I feel my face twitch.

"Yup, sprinkled a little on the bread and pinch in the middle, why?"

"Nothing bad, I just have a small allergy to paprika." I feel a sneeze crawl it's way to my nose.

"Any side effects?" Zane asks as he throws his food over board.

"Just one, I get into a...a......ACHOO!" I sneeze and the wind picks up and pushes the Bounty forward. Cole's tray flies in the air and all the hidden wrappers come out. "A sneezing fit."

"Hey, did you eat before I fed you?" Cole holds up a peanut wrapper.

"How ironic, the master of wind has a sneezing allergy." Lloyd starts laughing. I'll admit, it was actually pretty funny. The only one not laughing is Cole, who complains about not knowing good food if it were to bite us on the backside.
