Chapter 4: Jane the Killer

[Time Skip, Weeks Later]

I slowly walked down the main staircase, towards the kitchen. It was early in the morning, barely even sunrise. It was still hard to move, evidently, I go through something Jackie calls "Temporary Rigor Mortis" meaning if I sit still too long my joints will stiffen to the point of me not being able to move. Once I reached the bottom of the stairs I went into the kitchen to see it empty.

Me: 'Hm, Slender isn't even awake yet.'

I walked over to the fridge and opened it, seeing the variety of different foods. I opened the last compartment and saw the food Jackie and I keep here, various organs, cuts of human flesh and muscle. I heard my stomach growl loudly and began looking through everything.

[Time Skip, Brought to You by Chibi (Y/N) Munching on a Human Arm]

As I began washing the dishes I heard someone come into the kitchen. I turned to see Slender walking in with a small girl slightly behind her. The girl had brown hair and emerald green eyes. She looked slightly frightened by my presence and held onto Slender's side.

Slender: 'Up early as usual I see.'

Me: "I got hungry."

Slender suddenly looked at the girl behind her, then looked at me again.

Slender: "Oh, I don't believe you've met Sally."

Slender nudged the girl from behind her. The girl, I assumed to be Sally, stepped beside Slender and looked at the ground.

Slender: "She's rather shy around men."

Me: "Nice to meet you, Sally. My name is (Y/N)."

Sally: "N-Nice to meet you..."

She mumbled, still looking at the ground. I turned back to continue washing dishes. I stopped as I heard yelling from upstairs.

Jane: "Shut up!"

Jess: "Make me!"

Jane: "Gladly!"

Slender sighed and looked to me.

Slender: "I see they're at it early today, (Y/N) would you mind taking care of it? I rather not leave Sally, she had a nightmare so I've been comforting her."

From the way she spoke, I could tell she only spoke in my mind, as to not let Sally hear her say that.

Me: "Mhmm."

I dried my hands and began walking up the steps. After eating my body always felt a lot better, and I had a good amount of control over my movements which made climbing up the stairs much easier. Once I got to the top I heard insults and threats being thrown back and forth. I followed the sound and soon saw Jess and Jane slashing at each other with knives, each one dodging or blocking the other's attacks. Both were still in their pajamas. I walked forward and tapped on Jane's shoulder. Out of pure instinct, she turned and stabbed her knife into my head. My head tilted to the side from the force of the attack as Jane looked at me.

Jane: "What do you want, Zombie boy?"

She roughly ripped her knife out of my head then wiped it off.

Me: "Slender can hear you from downstairs, she asked me to come up here and ask you two to stop."

Jane: "Yeah, I'll stop... as soon as she keeps that vulgar mouth of hers shut!"

She yelled back towards Jess.

Jess: "Oh boohoo! Cry me a river you stupid bitch! For the last time, I don't give a fuck about your stupid grudge against me!"

Me: "So I guess I'll just tell Slender that she has to come up here and stop you guys?"

They both stopped glaring at each other and glared at me as I stood there with a bored look. Blood still ran down the side of my head and stained my shirt.

Me: "What?"

Jane scoffed and turned around, shooting Jess a dirty look before walking down the hall.

Jess: "God she's such a bitch."

Me: "I don't understand why you argue with each other."

Jess looked at me.

Jess: "That's because you only care about when you eat, you flesh chewing freak."

She pushed me to the side as she walked past me. I shrugged and walked back down to the kitchen. Slender was cooking at the stove, her back turned to me.

Me: "They stopped fighting."

Slender: "Thank you, (Y/N). Why don't you have a seat I'll take care of-"

Slender turned around and instantly saw the blood pouring from my head.

Slender: "Come here and I'll clean you up."

I nodded and walked over as she grabbed a rag and ran it under warm water.

Slender: "Which one did this?"

She began wiping away as much of the blood as she could.

Me: "Jane. I think she did it out of reflex, I tapped on her shoulder and she turned around and stabbed me."

Slender: "That doesn't surprise me. She's been on edge since it's rather close to the anniversary of her parents' death."

Me: "Oh. But what does that have to do with Jess?"

Slender finished cleaning me up and went to squeeze out the rag.

Slender: "Well... Jess is responsible for the death of Jane's parents. She's also the reason Jane is who she is now. She misses her old life greatly. The only reason she doesn't try to kill Jess is that I make them behave in the mansion."

Me: "I still don't understand."

Slender: "It's... It's okay (Y/N), these things can be complex and hard to understand at times. Jane will be back to her usual self after a while."

Me: "Mhmm."

I stood up and started to walk out of the kitchen.

Me: "I'm going to get a shower then ask Jackie to help me with this."

I pointed to the stab wound on the side of my head. Slender nodded and went back to what she was doing. I walked up the stairs and went towards the bathroom as I passed Jane's room I thought about what Slender said.

Me: 'Is family that important to people? I don't feel anything besides hunger. Although I feel happy when I get to eat something fresh. I don't feel pain, I don't feel sadness, nor do I feel... well any emotion. I wonder what it feels like to be sad.'

I heard a door behind me open, but paid no mind to it and kept walking.

Jane: "Hey, (Y/N). Come here a second."

I turned around to see Jane standing in her doorway, looking at me. I walked over to her and she motioned for me to follow her as she went into her room. We entered her room and she shut the door. Her room was very neat and organized, the color scheme was grey and black. There was a desk against the back wall with a rolling chair pushed in, on the desk was a laptop. Next to the desk was a bookcase. Jane took a seat at the desk and sighed.

Jane: "Look, I wanted to apologize. I didn't mean to stab you, I've just been... irritated lately."

I tilted my head to the side.

Me: "There isn't a reason to apologize. It's not like I'll die or anything. Besides Slender told me why you've been irritated lately."

Jane: "She... She did?"

I nodded.

Me: "I don't really understand the family part. As Jess said, I only care about my next meal."

Jane: "Don't you have anyone you care about? Anyone you did care about?"

I thought for a moment but found nothing.

Me: "I can't remember. When I woke up I couldn't remember anything. All I know is I was starving. What does it feel like to be sad?"

Jane thought for a moment.

Jane: "Imagine hunting down a victim, then going to eat it."

I nodded showing I was listening. My mouth began to water at the thought.

Jane: "But then the corpse suddenly disappears and you don't even get a single bite."

I blinked a few times.

Me: "That... That's not fair... That's horrible."

Jane: "Exactly, it's not a good feeling."

My stomach suddenly growled loudly.

Me: "Now I want a fresh meal. I'm hungry again."

Jane; "Didn't you just eat or something?"

I nodded as my vision fixated on her pale flesh. Her mouth moved as if she were speaking, but I didn't hear anything.

Me: 'The soft flesh wrapped around the tough muscle, the warm blood that makes the meat slide down my throat so smoothly. The chewy tendons that feel so good between my teeth. The tast-'

Jane: "Earth to zombie boy, did your brain die too?"

I snapped out of my thoughts as Jane snapped her fingers in front of my face.

Me: "Hmm?"

Jane: "Did you hear what I just said?"

I shook my head. She sighed.

Jane: "I said, you could always tag along with me tomorrow night. I'm going to visit my parents, the cemetery is at the edge of town so we could pick someone off pretty easily. Do you want to?"

I nodded quickly then headed for the door.

Jane: "You okay?"

Me: "Just... Hungry."

I quickly left the room and moved quickly to the kitchen.

[Time Skip, Brought to You by Chibi Jane the Killer Listening to Music]

Jane and I walked down the sidewalk of the small town towards the cemetery. I wore my usual gloves, long sleeve, scarf, jeans, and jacket. I always had to make sure all of my stitches are covered up to draw less suspicion. Jane wore her usual outfit, a black dress, heels, only adding a jacket to hide her face with the hood. We neared the cemetery, the gates coming into view. Once we entered the cemetery I followed Jane, seeing as it was obvious that she knew the way by heart. We soon reached two gravestones, both holding a single wilted black rose. One said Isabelle Arkensaw, the other said Gregory Arkensaw. Jane picked up the two roses then replaced them with two fresh ones. I stood behind Jane as she kneeled down in front of the graves.

Jane: "You know... I miss my old life. I actually miss being the girl who never stood out. I miss my boring old life... There are so many things I still wanted to do."

Her voice was shaking slightly, she spoke without looking up.

Me: "Why can't you still do those things?"

Jane chuckled weakly.

Jane; "Look at me. I have to hide my face when I go out. I have to worry about living my life without being seen. Because of Jess, I'll never get to know what its like to fall in love like a normal girl. Get married. something like that. I'll be like this for the rest of my life."

Jane's face suddenly showed anger.

Jane: "Its because of her that I'm like this. Its because of her that I will live like this forever. Because of her, I lost everything!"

I stayed quiet a moment.

Me; "I don't think that's right."

Jane looked back at me.

Jane: "What?"

Me; "I don't think that's right. For some reason, it doesn't sound right. A parent is someone who cares about you right? Who loves you, and wishes you the best no matter what, right?"

Jane: "Yeah, good parents are like that."

Me; "Then I don't think they'd want you to live the rest of your life in misery. The only one stopping you from being happy is yourself. Your appearance doesn't matter, you're the same on the inside as any human out there."

Jane: "You don't know what its like to lose someone you care about. I know they wouldn't want me to be doing this to myself. But its hard to just move on."

Something started to happen with the way I was feeling. I didn't feel my normal constant indifference towards everything. Something about this topic was starting to eat at me, but I couldn't figure out why. I suddenly spoke without thinking. Even my voice was different, instead of my monotone voice, I spoke with compassion and a slight hint of sadness.

Me: "Jane, the loss of someone you care for is devastating. You feel like you lost a part of yourself, like you've lost a very piece of your soul. It hurts down to your core, and there isn't a day that goes by where you don't think about them. You even start remembering every interaction with them, the good and bad, that's when you realize, they probably cheered you up at some point. And you could tell without a doubt that they loved you by the look in their eyes, it was almost as if you being sad was painful for them to see. I'm not saying its easy, it takes time and effort, and there will be days where you can't stay strong, where you break down and cry for them. I want you to know that if you need someone to lean on, I'll be there. And just think, I'm not gonna die anytime soon... since.. you know.. I'm already dead."

I chuckled and smiled at the end. Jane looked up at me, clearly unable to think of what to say.

Jane: "(Y/N)... I-"

Male1: "Well, well, well. Look what we have here guys."

I turned around towards the voice to see four males walking towards us. Each one wore a smug smirk. The new feeling I was having suddenly disappeared and my indifference returned, along with the hunger. They looked from me, to Jane.

Male2; "Aw looks like a couple on a late night stroll."

Male3: "Nah man, I think the little miss over there is mourning, no wonder she's in all black."

Something told me to block their path to Jane, and not let them passed me. I made it apparent I didn't want them to walk passed me by stepping forward and standing in the path of one of the males.

Male4: "Oh shit, look at this. I think we got a tough guy right here."

I didn't move an inch as they neared me and stopped just in front of me. The smell of alcohol was apparent on all four of them.

Male2: "What's the matter, huh? We just wanted to talk to the little lady over there."

Me: "I don't believe she is in the mood to talk."

Male1: "So, you think for her huh?"

The male got in my face, trying to provoke me.

Jane; "Just piss off. You drunken bastards need to learn when not to interrupt."

She sighed as if disappointed by something.

Male1: "What'd you just say to me bitch!?"

The male tried to get passed me, only for me to move in front of him again. This visibly irritated the man. He slammed his fist into the right side of my face making me stumble slightly to the side. I was about to move towards the man, ready to tear into his flesh, however, I was stopped as someone put me in a chokehold. Two of the men went towards Jane as one held me and the last one stood in front of me. I kept a straight face as the man in front of me began punching me. I noticed every time the man punched me the man behind me loosened his grip on my neck slightly. As soon as the male loosened his grip just enough I opened my mouth and quickly bit into his forearm, tearing through the flesh and muscle with ease. The man screamed and tried to get away, which only allowed me to rip the chunk of meat from his arm. He held onto his arm and screamed in pain. I did something odd, normally I would've gulped down the flesh in an instant, but this time I spit it out and looked over to Jane. One of the males was trying to hold Jane as the other approached her, however, Jane kicked him away and struggled against the man holding her. I began to move towards them only to feel an object stab into my back. I looked over to see the male who was punching me stabbing me with a small pocket knife. The man backed up slowly as he saw it had no effect on me. I turned and ripped the knife out then threw it to the ground. I then lunged for the man, quickly grabbing a hold of him and tearing into the left side of his neck. I violently ripped the mass of tendons I had in my mouth away then dug my fingers into the gaping hole in his neck. I pulled from both sides. The sound of flesh being torn echoed through the night as I pulled until there was a large tear from the wound on his neck to the beginning of his right collarbone. I dropped the man carelessly and began to walk towards Jane, only to hear a loud bang and feel a strong impact to the back of my right shoulder. I looked at the man that was missing a chunk in his arm to see he was holding a gun with his good arm. His aim was shaky and he looked very close to passing out. I moved over to him and dug into his stomach with my bare hands, then pulled out anything I got a grip on, organs, bones, or just bits of flesh. With no more interruptions, I looked to Jane who had killed one of the men and was holding the last male back. Her knife was on the ground, but she wasn't able to hold him at bay and grab her knife at the same time. I moved behind the man and used my middle and ring finger to stab into his eyes, then pulled his head back as hard as I could. The upper part of his skull tore from the rest of his body, leaving only his lower jaw and spinal cord attached to his body. I let the body drop to the ground then threw the head on top of it. I looked to Jane as she looked at my work.

Me: "Are you okay?"

Jane: "Y-Yeah. You just surprised me, I've never seen you hunt before."

Me; "We should go."

Jane nodded.

Jane: "I'm sure someone heard all that. Do you want to grab something from one of them?"

I shook my head.

Me: "They aren't appetizing, in fact, they made my stomach turn sour. I'll hunt another night. Let's just head home."

Jane; "Well said, I need sleep."

As we walked back, Jane would glance in my direction from time to time. Whether she really was or I was just seeing things, I didn't really mind.
