Burying Jennith

Alison's P.O.V

I was running as fast as my feet could carry me. My purse in one hand and the awful pencil heels in the other. I used my arm to block my face from every branch that came in my way. I halted in my steps as soon as I heard my phone ring.

"Where the hell are you?" I heard the caller scream from the other side.

"I'm running as fast as I can, Tris." I said through my uncontrollable pants.

"I'm sorry just please hurry up. We are freaking out." I nodded, even though she couldn't see me.

Now, for those of you wondering where I am and why I'm running. I'm running to our special spot in Meadow Valley. Why? For that you need to know what happened half an hour ago.

***Flashback***

"Another video. A video of Dad." Eric said, shocking me. I arched my eyebrow, questioning what he just said.

"Dad killed someone and the guy has a video proving it." I shook my head. "No, have you seen the video. It could be someone else." Eric nodded. "I've seen it. Dad pushed a man off the roof of a building. I don't know who the man is but I saw dad push him to his death."

I took a minute to process everything. So perhaps this was what dad was talking about in the kitchen. I thought he did something illegal but not this.

"No, that can't be. I mean...he's our dad. No." Eric comforted me. All of a sudden, my phone rang, breaking me from my thoughts.

I saw the name of the caller and that was the last thing I needed. A call from dad. I put on a poker face and attended the call.

"Hi." I heard my uncle ask from behind my dad if I was okay.

"Are you okay? It's 8:30 and you still haven't called." I bit my gums to refrain myself from a snarky comeback.

"I'm fine and I'm kind of busy." I told my dad that I had to go. After a lot of stay safe and goodbyes I ended the call.

"I miss home." Eric said. I nodded. Another call disturbed me, making me groan. It was from Kennedy.

"Hey. I'm kind of- " I was cut off by Kennedy as she screamed.

"We know, you're at the Gala. Now, your busy is nothing compared to the huge problem we have." I frowned.

"What happened?" What Kennedy replied made me shudder.

"Jennith. She's dead. For real this time." I think Eric heard what she said because he got up instantly screaming, "WHAT?"

"Is that Eric? Oh my God, that was Eric." I got her to shut up.

"That's not the real issue here. Tell me what happened."

Walter snatched the phone from Kennedy. "GEEZ ALLIE!. We CAN'T explain. Get to our usual spot in Meadow Valley, ASAP!" I looked over to Eric when he nodded.

"Okay. I'll be there." Eric spoke up as soon as Walter cut the call. "You should go." He said, much to my dismay.

"No, there are so many things I have to ask. For instance, why did you faked your own death? How is mom involved in all of this? Who is-" Eric interrupted me. "That's not important right now. Your friends need you." I groaned. WHy did everything have to go wrong right when I was getting closer to answers that I need.

"But, when can I see you again?" Eric was getting up to leave. "Soon sis, soon." He replied and ran out the door. I yelled after him, "YOU CAN'T JUST LEAV--", but Eric was long gone by then.

***Flashback ended***

So, now you know why I was in such a hurry to get to Walter and the girls. I had a few blocks left to cover before I got to them. My mind floating with a million questions. What the hell is happening?

For once in my life, I actually felt sympathy for Jennith. All she was trying to do was to help herself. I thought about the last thing she said to me.

"Sometimes, you are your own hero." What did she mean by that? I slowed down when I saw Walter and the girls huddled around a body bag.

"Hey guys." I looked at the girls and they were all in tears. Walter was the one to speak up.

"We found her in the tub, dead." I nodded. "So, what are we supposed to do with her?" I asked the question everyone was thinking of.

"We bury her." Walter said. I'm glad he wasn't crying or looking worried. Maybe he wasn't worried or maybe he was just good at hiding it. But, I know that in situations like these, Walter is the one who acts mature, takes charge and makes most of the decisions.

I saw two pairs of shovels leaning against our tree. Kennedy and Tris walked over to them and grabbed them.

"Let's go deeper into the woods where no one could find her." Callie said. It was a good thing that everyone already thought she was already dead. At least we didn't have to answer the questions of the police anymore.

The girls and I followed Walter deeper into the woods. Kennedy, Tris and Walter were carrying Jennith's body while Callie and I made sure no one was following us. We each had a pair of gloves on so that we didn't leave any fingerprints.

Right when we thought that we had gone far enough, we dropped the body and started digging. It felt like hours before we had dug deep enough. We gave Jennith one last look before gently laying the body in the hole we had dug. It looked like she died very painfully. She had cuts all over her body and she had lost a lot of blood. Whoever killed her has no shred of humanity. Jennith didn't even do anything wrong. She didn't even reveal his identity then why would the person go to such an extent?

Things didn't add up. I had a feeling that whoever stalked Eric was the same person who killed Jennith or perhaps had something do with the murder. We all quietly covered the body with mud and dirt. As soon as we were done, Tris and I grabbed some twigs and branches and covered the place where we just buried her.

"Let's go to my place." The girls and I said nothing rather went back to where we met and went into Walter's car. The ride back home was quiet. An unspeakable and uncomfortable aroma surrounded us. No one dared to break the silence. I already knew what was going to happen when we got home. They were obviously going to ask me about Eric.

I could always just say that it wasn't Eric they heard. I could just say that it was someone else but I knew that they were going to ask me why I went to the Gala.

Walter pulled into the driveway and we all got out. It was almost ten o'clock so I called my uncle and told him that I was going to be back in an hour.

Walter threw his house keys over to Callie who caught it and unlocked the house while Walter parked the car. I saw drops of blood in the living room and a few drops of blood on the couch. As soon as Walter entered, he told Kennedy where to find the mop and cleaning products. We got to work.

After a whole lot of scrubbing the blood from the living room and basement, Walter and the girls cleaned up. No words were exchanged between any of us. It's like we were scared to talk. Of course that was going to be our reaction to all this. I mean, we had just buried a body with our own bare hands.

Almost an hour had passed so I told everyone that I had to go. Tris stopped me.

"I need to know something first. Was that Eric?" The thought of lying zoomed past me but I didn't.

"Yes." I said, looking down. I had a feeling they were going to pissed about the fact that I went to meet him alone. Walter was the first one to react to this.

"You went to meet him without even caring to tell us." I didn't say anything.

"I thought we were in this together. You may be his sister but we are his friends. Our lives are at risk right now and you decided to go meet Eric all by yourself." Kennedy stopped him.

"It's okay, Walter. Eric is her blood. She has every right to meet him. It's not like she has to tell us everything that's going on in her life."

"No, she doesn't have to tell us what's going on in her life but the Eric situation is our business too. If we mean nothing to her then why the hell are we risking our lives just by being next to her."

As soon as Walter said that, I froze. "What do you mean?" I asked.

"Remember what Jennith said. Your dad did something to piss off whoever is after us." I frowned. "But you're the one who said that wasn't tru.." I stopped when I remembered what Eric had said about dad killing someone. What if these two are related?

"What? Why did you stop?" Callie asked. I shook my head.

"It was just something that Eric told me." Tris motioned me to go on. So I ended up telling them everything Eric had said to me. From our trip to Canada 'till the part when dad pushed someone off the roof of a building.

Walter kept sending me glares whenever our eyes met. Knowing Walter that long, I knew what was going through his brain. I was just waiting for him to say it to me, right to my face.

"Wait, so your dad killed someone and the stalker was blackmailing Eric through the video proof that he had." I nodded.

"Oh wow. So, the stalker blackmailed Eric and after Eric faked his death, he came after you. He stole your laptop the day after you were received the video. He tried to kill Jennith for almost revealing his identity and killed her for real when he found out that Jennith was actually alive."

"What are you trying to say, Callie." Kennedy asked.

"You know for being the daughter of a police officer, you sure are the most stupid of us all." Kennedy chose to ignore that comment. "What I'm trying to say is that the guy who was after Eric and the one who is after us is the exact same person."

Callie coughed then continued, "Jennith told us that your dad did something to piss him off and now he's returning the favour. Also Eric told you that the stalker has a video of your dad killing someone. And now I have a hypothesis. Perhaps, the person your dad killed was someone close to the stalker. That's why he's after you two siblings. To get revenge."

That made so much sense. There were still many questions that needed to be asked.

"If Mr. Fitzgerald hurt the stalker then why are we involved in his mission to get revenge?" Tris asked. "I mean, he should be messing around with Eric and Alison only. Then, why are we getting notes and threats from that psychotic person?"

Walter answered that question while shooting daggers my way. "Because....because we are friends with Alison Fitzgerald."

"I have to get home. My dad must be waiting." Walter got up and opened the door for me. I felt so unwelcomed. I didn't look back when I left the house. I kept walking and walking. A part of me wanted the stalker to jump out and catch me. At least that way, I wouldn't have to go home to my father who had murdered someone and I wouldn't have to face my friends who probably hate me.

I kept walking until I reached home. Unfortunately, my dad was up, waiting for me. He asked me to have dinner but I refused, just wanting to my room and sleep. Sleep was the only way I could escape from this harsh reality. So, that's exactly what I did. I went to my room, changed into comfortable clothes and threw my dirty dress into the laundry. Then, I put my phone on charge and crashed into my bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I drowned all my worries and sorrows and let the darkness take over me.
