Part 1
Unconventional party nights (Part 1)
Apart from a twenty second video made for a certain man who was neither a friend nor an enemy out of a sheer impulse she could neither fathom nor explain, the rest of her day was pretty normal and was gonna go as per routine. Or so she thought.
At 6pm, Shilpa got a call from one of her oldest friends. 'Hey Shil.. Sheetal bol rahi hu..sun na, aaj raat ko free hai kya tu? ' Shilpa thought about it and said albeit a bit sadly 'Han hu to.. Par kyu? ' 'Wo ek surprise party rakhi hai humne.. Ujjwal aur bhabhi ke liye.. Unki 12th wedding anniversary hai na so.. Raat ke 12 baje celebrations start honge! Tu aaegi na? ' Sheetal rattled off. Shilpa liked to avoid parties as far as possible, but this involved her closest friends. So she smiled and said 'Of course mai aaungi. Kitne baje aur address message kar. ' Sheetal excitedly chirped and thanks and told her to be ready by 11:20. The address she messaged was at Andheri East. Andheri east. A place where another birthday party was being held...
This party was going to be an intimate affair with family, friends, food and fun. A night of laughter, a night of dance and unwinding. Giving up all pretence and enjoying with those closest to u.
She started getting ready and chose a light green figure hugging dress which was sleeveless and thin strapped, ending a few inches above her knees. It clung to her curves, highlighting her features and the effect was glamorous and sensual. She then gingerly looked around for the proper footwear to go with this outfit. Unfortunately, the only appropriate one was a pair of silver heels which were ridiculously high and pointed. She stood with them in her hands, looking at them aghast. 'How do people wear such stuff daily? How do I even own this? Oh right.. It was a gift from didi.. But how do I wear.. ' she was still grumbling to herself but finally finding nothing else put them on reluctantly, constantly muttering 'I don't like heels' Not bothering with her driver as usual, she drove to the party venue herself.
The venue was a huge, beautiful sea facing bungalow in Andheri which belonged to one of their friends. The party had been organised in the bungalow's garden and lawns. Lush green grass provided a beautiful, soft velvet carpet for the guests. Fairy lights had been draped over trees and at various other places to decorate the venue. Small food stalls had been put up at a corner. These included a chaat stall, a kulfi stall, starters stall and then a buffet area where the main course was being served by expert chefs. Infront of the lawn was the sea, at the moment floating around in gentle waves. In the middle of the lawn was a lotus like structure made entirely of multi color flowers. Inside the structure were pictures of Ujjwal and his wife, depicting their entire journey from their dating days. There was no DJ. An old music player had been put up which played retro songs as well as Govinda songs from the 90s. It looked beautiful. So beautiful that it almost brought tears to her eyes. This was her place, her version of what a party should look like. With a delighted smile she let herself be swept into the party.
She hugged and congratulated the celebrating couple, greeted old friends, sampled all the food without bothering with her diet, laughed her loudest, clicked crazy pictures and danced with glorious abandon to old Bollywood chartbusters, including Govinda songs like 'Mai to Raste se ja raha tha ' Around an hour later, a new guest entered the venue and his presence shocked her to the core. 'Rahil? ' she whispered. Dapper and suave in a black suit, Rahil Azam looked as charming as ever as he greeted the people present. 'Hey Shilpa' he said as he hugged her. 'Hey.. Good to see you..its been a long time.. How come u are here? ' she asked curiously. He chuckled and said 'Ujjwal is my friend too! So I got an invitation. ' with a grin. She grinned back and chatted with him for a while, catching up. After some time, a slow Hindi romantic song came on and when Rahil offered her a hand for a dance she didn't decline. Several other couples were twirling around on the grass. She kicked off the heels and danced, putting her arms around him while his settled on her waist. The event photographer clicked this moment and a few friends took a video of the party to put up on their instagram profiles later on. So the moment was captured and not in danger of being lost. When the party finally drew to a close at 3 am, she was deliciously spent and tired for the nicest reason possible. She finally got in her car after bidding her friends goodbye.
After she had driven away from the venue however, the car started to give weird noises. Nervous, she parked it in a corner and tried to determine what was wrong. It wouldn't drive no matter what she tried. After a while she gave up. The car had broke down in the middle of a lonely lane at 3:30 am. She took out her cell phone but clearly her luck was bad as the battery was dead. Great. Just great Now I can't even call for help she thought exasperatedly. She got out of the car and walked a small distance to look for help but kept tripping in her ridiculous heels. Finally irritated beyond measure, she took off the heels and held them in her hands and continued looking around for help.
