Chapter 5: The Portrait

20 days.

 480 hours.

28800 minutes.

1728000 seconds.

That was the amount of time Coco Meadows has been stuck in this world as the illegitimate princess of the great White Kingdom.

Coco spent all her time in this world learning more and more about this brand new place and the reserved and timid princess. Every day she would learn something new about this kingdom and this world and every night she would learn more and more about the princess. But every moment there was a part of Coco that always feels sad and lonely. Coco could not help but miss her own world where everything was familiar and she always had an end goal in her life. Coco figured she would get a comfortable job after her graduation or apply for higher studies in some renowned university .

In her entire life, everything was clear and there was always one clear straight road up ahead. But now she was stuck inside the body of a neglected princess with no idea how to go home. She did not even know how she ended up in this world in the first place. She never felt so alone, so isolated and unconnected from everyone else as the days dragged on.

But one of the most defining qualities of Coco Meadows is that she never gives up. Even when the challenge is high Coco always moves forward. All her life it has always been essential for her to know what to do and always have a plan. For this reason, this night was very important for Coco.

Finally, after twenty days Coco will step outside the palace grounds. The last ten days in this world was spent gathering information about what might be outside the palace walls and also discovering the locations and conditions of all the hidden routes and passageways inside the palace. For all this Coco could only trust her personal maid Mary. Coco even managed to get a regular peasant dress and a long black cloak that will cover her hair and most of her face. Coco was slightly surprised at how easily Mary was able to collect the clothes and even the locations of some of the hidden pathways. Mary did not show any protest either when Coco first said that she wishes to sneak outside the palace wall. She suspected that Mary might have thought that getting some air and watching some new sceneries outside the palace would be good for the princess, which was probably the reason why Mary did not protest or said anything to anyone else.

Coco was completely ready to step outside. She put on the cloak and went outside her room. Coco was slowly but confidently walking towards her destination. Coco spent most of the last few days exploring the palace and memorizing the location of everything and everyone. Princess Alyssa's room and her favorite garden was located in the east wing of the palace. The royal family lived in the west wing of the palace. It would seem that princess Alyssa has been isolated and deprived even in something as trivial as having her room in the same location as the rest of the royal family. The servant's quarters and kitchens were in the northern side of the palace while the training grounds were on the southern sides.

From the memories that Coco has seen so far, Princess Alyssa always stays in the east wing of the palace, never daring to go to the west wing where the queen and her half-sister stays most of the time and the southern sides of the palace where the crown prince always trains. Coco also avoided those places as well, not because she was scared of the royal family like Princess Alyssa but because she did not want to see any of the members of the royal family. Yet.

After lots of turn Coco reached her destination. It was a small statue room located at the north-eastern side of the palace. According to Coco's estimation, the safest places for Princess Alyssa to roam was in the eastern and northern side of the palace. She was very lucky indeed to find a small passageway in this room that leads directly outside the palace and into a small trader's village short distance from the palace.

All around the room there were multiple statues of various Greek gods and goddesses. The walls were covered by magnificent tapestries. This room mainly served as a small storeroom for those grand statues and embroideries for grand ceremonies and festivals. Only the right wall adjacent to the door did not have any wall-hangings or tapestries. Instead, there was a majestic and glorious portrait of the entire royal family, excluding Princess Alyssa of course. In two splendid thrones sat White King Ethan and White Queen Nora. Next to queen Nora was Princess Adelia and next to king Ethan was the crown prince Augustus. All of them in looked fine and regal with their glittering diamonds and jewelries, wearing the most finest clothes imaginable with their platinum blonde hair and cold sky blue eyes.

Every time Coco looked at this picture she could not help but feel sorry for the poor Princess Alyssa. Even in the short period of time Coco was stuck inside this world, she was starting to feel lonely and deserted in a secluded palace where there was no one to talk to. But Princess Alyssa had to spend her entire life in a place like this.

However, this was not the time to feel sorry. Coco slowly pulled the portrait and quickly went inside the passage hidden behind the portrait.
