Chapter 17: The Loneliness
Coco was lying down on her bed looking at the ceiling with her mind completely blank. She did not want to think about anything anymore. Her appearance as a beautiful and lovely princess of a magical kingdom has changed with the dark circles under her eyes and the gloomy feeling constantly looming in her heart. She did not want to think about her home and life she lost, she did not want to plan and learn new things about the wonders and miracles of this world, she did not want to think about her family in this world or a certain duke. Most importantly she did not want to think about Lady Clara and what happened to her.
For the first time since she woke up in this world, Coco just wanted to rest. But sleep had become a luxury. Every night since the attack on the Ballet Theater that day all Coco could see was death and blood. Each nights filled with nightmares of the grotesque transformation of a person she once knew. Coco only saw memories of Lady Clara attacked, Lady Clara transformed into a monster, Lady Clara trying to kill her and then Lady Clara's family crying and screaming over her dead body looping in front of her over and over and over and over and over again.
Everything that happened was a blur. She could not move a single muscle as she was checked for injuries and dragged and locked inside her room. She could not even tell what day it was.
After that incident, the news of the White Kingdom had spread around the entire world like wildfire. The people were terrified and panicking all around the kingdom. Everyone was afraid to go outside. The Royal family and the esteemed visitors had been placed under strict quarantine as the once magical kingdom slowly descends to ruins.
As the princess of the White Kingdom and one of the witness of the incident, Coco has been locked up in her room. The Queen and the crown prince took the opportunity to spread rumors that Princess Alyssa was also afflicted by the monsters. Since then Coco was not allowed to leave her room. No one would talk to her as she spent rest of her days locked up in her room, no one would listen to her as she begged to meet the Duke and her father the King.
Slowly she dragged herself out of the bed and walked towards the window. She looked outside and sighs as she sees the sky red with the sun setting far away. She turns to her door suddenly after hearing a bolting sound from the door. King Ethan was standing in front of her with his face just as pale.
Coco did not know what to say nor what to do, she just knows that she is too tired to maintain proper manners and conversation with a King who had always been an absent father to the poor princess.
"I'm here to apologize", said the King unexpectedly. "I'm sorry I was so late." Coco just stared at him without any emotions. Then the King started to blabber, "At first I was too busy trying to handle the situation of this kingdom.......all those riots and protests..... I thought it would be safer for you to be here..... But as soon as I heard those terrible rumors I knew you were suffering. I couldn't believe they trapped you here over their mindless imaginations...... I can't imagine how stressful the last three weeks have been for you." Then he added, "But you are free to leave this room now, Duke Wisteria has worked tirelessly in making sure the palace is safe."
Coco was shocked. It took this man three weeks to find out that his daughter has been abused and imprisoned by his wife and oldest son for rumors that they made up, solely for the purpose of mentally torturing her, and now he just casually wipes everything under the rug. Coco only knew those people for few months at most but all those years the princess has been alone and by herself, all those years she suffered.
At this point she had enough and she found herself saying, "No, you can't imagine. You were never able to imagine how scared a young child would be to be all alone in a young age, you don't know the sufferings of being hated and ignored by people who were supposed to be your family. And you can never comprehend the pain of being the outcast throw away in contempt. And you will never know the agony of being Princess Alyssa."
Coco took a deep breath and saw the King staring at her with his eyes wide open with horror and pain. She did not say anything else as she walked out of the room and looking at the servants staring at her in shock.
She knows what she have to do. She needs to find a way to save the White Kingdom properly, no one deserves to lose their life the way Lady Clara did. She needs to find Duke Wisteria.
