Suzzanah's POV
My eyes shot away from the dark hooded man just in time to catch Master Cole disappear from his spot on the ring and appear a mere foot away from Zuerien. With his feet apart, his right hand pulled back and his fist clenched, he swung it forward aiming right at Zuerien's face.
I didn't even have time to gasp as his fist flew forward at a rate so alarming that I nearly didn't see it. His hand was a mere inch away from Zuerien's jaw, when in the blink of an eye Zuerien bent his head and body underneath Master Cole's arm avoiding collision.
Before Master Cole could even withdraw his arm, Zuerien swung his leg off the ground and his right knee crashed hard into Master Cole's abdomen sending him reeling backwards to the other side of the ring emitting a cacophony of excitement from the crowd. Master Cole dug his feet into the ground stopping his fall before immediately propelling his body forward, throwing yet another punch at the speed of light at Zuerien chest.
Zuerien spun away from his attack and ducked under yet another punch before sidestepping a kick thrown his way. Master Cole threw punch after punch, never directed at the same place twice. Zuerien dodged them all but didn't attack even once.
"What's wrong Alpha?" I heard Master Cole shout through another attack, "Not even gonna try to take a shot at me?"
His arm spun around, elbow barely missing Zuerien's jaw, "You think you'll win against me with only defense?" he asked.
Zuerien blocked Master Cole's kick with his forearm just before it collided with his abdomen, "Well, think again", Master Cole shouted smiling victoriously, "I'm your Beta for a reason"
I didn't have time to ponder that word as Master Cole spun in the air aiming a roundhouse kick into Zuerien's side. Zuerien bent under it, his head avoiding the violent contact by mere centimeters only to be caught off guard by Master Cole's punch which landed hard in his shoulder. The right side of Zuerien's body was pushed back by the impact of the hit, emitting a symphony of shocked gasps from the spellbound crowd. A bout of loud thunder rumbled throughout the grounds and all eyes went wide in disbelief.
I shot off my seat, just in time to catch the scowl on Zuerien's face being illuminated by a burst of lightening. And before the light had even disappeared from the suddenly stormy sky, Master Cole was thrown across the ring and he crashed into the steel pole at its edge after Zuerien's hard fist collided violently with his chest. Shocked cries erupted from the crowd as the steel pole bent backwards, nearly breaking at the impact of Master Cole's body.
I cringed as Master Cole jumped to his feet immediately, facing Zuerien who now wore a dark expression. Master Cole snorted before rolling his shoulders in anticipation. A gust of wild wind descended from the dark thundering sky and crashed onto the grounds raising a huge cloud of dust and sand which was splayed all around the field like waves in a tumultuous sea. A slow stream of water started to fall from the sky, making it harder to see the two men in the ring.
I ran to the tinted window and rubbed my hand across it trying to get a better view through the rain pattered glass. Unable to make out much, I pushed open the cabin door and ran outside and stood under the sunshade. Cold winds assaulted my body and a few cool droplets of rain started to seep into my T-shirt, chilling my skin, but I couldn't care less. My eyes were transfixed on the fighting ring, where two tall muscular men stood less than a foot away from each other.
I gasped as Zuerien's fist flew towards Master Cole's jaw missing it by a sliver as Master Cole bent backwards thrusting his knee into Zuerien's stomach. Blocking it with his wrist, Zuerien was hunched on the ground in a split second before his leg swiped swiftly across Master Cole's feet, colliding hard with his ankles, catching him off balance and making him stumble to the ground. Master Cole's palm immediately dug into the ground preventing his fall, and he spun his body on his hand aiming a brutal kick into the side of Zuerien's head.
Zuerien's hands came up in the blink of an eye and caught his leg mid-motion before twisting it around forcefully making Master Cole's entire body spin in the air. Zuerien pulled him down and I clutched my chest hard, all breath leaving me, as Master Cole's body crashed onto the wet ground with a loud thud raising a wave of sand and dust obscuring all visibility.
And then there was nothing.
The entire crowd sat completely still, a deathly silence permeating the air. The only sounds that could be heard were the harsh patter of the rain on the ground and the wild hammering of my heart inside my chest. I held my breath, too shocked to even blink. Slowly the dust and sand started to clear and I squinted to get a better view through the rain. Through the haze, I saw two figures on the ground, both unmoving. And when my vision cleared completely a soft gasp escaped my lips.
Master Cole lay sprawled on the ground, his arms by his side, one leg bent and the other straight, his eyes trained unblinking at the face just a foot away from his, the Alpha's face. Zuerien squatted with one knee pressed into Master Cole's abdomen. One of his hands was around Master Cole's neck pinning him to the wet ground and his other hand was clenched in a fist, a few inches away from his face.
Both men stared at each other with sharp unrelenting eyes, water matting their hair to their foreheads, then running down their gleaming muscles. A loud bout of thunder erupted from the skies as a bolt of lightening lit up the deathly still stadium. I caught a look of Zuerien's face as a slow smirk spread across his lips.
"And I", he breathed looking into Master Cole's eyes, "am your Alpha for a reason"
And then the whistle blew.
The entire crowd shot off the seats in a standing ovation and a thunderous applause boomed through the outdoor stadium, overpowering the sound of the heavy rain. I released the breath I had been holding, panting softly while rubbing my hand over my chest trying to calm my wild heart.
The crowd went on and on in their cheering as Alpha Zuerien lifted himself off Master Cole and then gave him a hand. Smiling widely Master Cole accepted his hand and stood up. Both men faced each other again and Master Cole exhaled heavily.
"I know", he replied before bending low in respect, "Alpha"
The cheering rose by many octaves and Alpha Zuerien placed a hand on Master Cole's shoulder making him rise, before patting it once as a sign of appreciation for the fight.
"The winner of the semi-final round is", the referee bellowed into his microphone, "MASTER ZUERIEN KAI ROYALE!"
Another ear-splitting applause burst forth from the stands and I joined in this time, clapping and cheering with the crowd at the unbelievable display of heart-stopping power and militant perfection. A few drops of water slid down the sunshade and landed on my head making me some of my locks stick to my forehead.
Sighing, I pushed the locks of wet hair out of my face and looked up to find Zuerien looking right at me. My heart skipped a beat as my gaze met his and a handsome smirk spread across his face making my breath catch in my throat. And then I remembered his words.
"If I win and manage to not injure my opponents too badly, then I get a prize from you, and it can be anything I want"
Gulping I recalled all his fights and in almost every single one, he had knocked out his opponent in a single attack, not really causing them any physical damage and hopefully no mental damage either. The others too had just been pinned down for 10 seconds which guaranteed his win. Master Cole, who was the only real competition he had had all evening looked fine as well. So what did that mean for me...
I'm a goner
I felt my cheeks heat up at the sight of Zuerien's intense gaze raking over my body. When his eyes returned to mine, his smirk widened before he turned away to face the crowd once again.
The final round of the Combat events for both men and women were to be held on a later date. When both Alpha Zuerien and Beta Cole, as he had called himself, got off the fighting ring, the entire crowd bowed deeply once again as a sign of utmost respect to their two most Elite leaders.
I too bowed low, regardless of whether or not anyone could see me. I did it out of admiration for them, and not out of compulsion. But when I did, I suddenly remembered the man in the hoodie I had seen before, the man had seemed to control the water in his hand and shape it to his will.
My head shot up and my eyes zeroed in at the pole by which the guy had been standing just in time to see him turn and start to walk away. He waved his hand and suddenly the heavy rain subsided to a light drizzle and the skies started to clear. My eyes didn't leave him as he was about to turn around the corner, juggling the solidified ball of water in his hand, and my eyes went wide when he suddenly threw the ball to the side and it reconverted into water before splashing against a tree. And then he was gone.
I was still gaping after the hooded man in shock when the urge to empty my bladder returned. There was too much of a crowd on the other side for me to follow the man, especially since I had no idea how he even looked. Sighing I quickly went to use the bathroom in the cabin. When I was done and I walked back out of the cabin, my leg suddenly started to vibrate and I realized that my phone was ringing. I dipped my hand into my jeans pocket before fishing out my phone and looking at the screen.
Unknown number
My eyes went wide as they zeroed in on the country code, +1.
Karina?!
My heart rate spiked and I immediately pressed the receive button and put my phone to my ear.
"Hello?"
At first there was a lot of disturbance on the line and it sounded somewhat like uproarious traffic. I couldn't make out any legible speech coming from the other side of the line and I winced when I heard loud honking fill my ear.
"H-hello?" I called into the phone, while closing one ear to block out the sound of the crowd in the outdoor stadium, "Who is this?"
"An..."
I frowned on hearing something resembling a voice and I called out, "Karina?"
"Anna!"
My eyes widened at the sound of my sister's voice from the line, and I felt worry seep into me on hearing her stressful tone.
"Anna? Can you hear me?"
"Y-yeah, Karina" I cringed again at some ear-splitting sound coming from the other side, "Karina, where are you? Are you okay?"
"Anna! Listen to me love, this is very important", she whispered, her voice hurried and tense making my own panic rise, "There is something happening here, that is just...its unbelievable, and we are both caught in the middle of it!"
"Karina, what...do you mean? What's going on?" I called into the phone worriedly.
"Anna, love, please believe me, I...I've found something that isn't supposed to exist, Anna there are people here who...who aren't human!"
My breath caught in my throat and my blood ran cold at her words.
Aren't human...
"Karina..."
"Anna, Magnifis Incorporated is not what it looks like. And neither is Royale Industries! The people...they aren't human! They're some completely unprecedented species, I don't know what!"
"Karina I-"
"Anna, I'm sorry I don't have enough time to tell you. If they find out I'm calling you, I may not be able to contact you again. Please believe me-"
"Karina, I do! I do believe you, can you hear me? Are you in danger", I asked as terror started to take hold of me.
"No, Anna I'm alright, they don't know that I know yet. But please remember don't call my phone or try to reach any company phones, especially not from the land-line there", she spoke hurriedly, and I had to strain my ears to hear her over all the noise, "Anna, Magnifis Incorporated and Royale Industries...they-....riv-...."
I winced as the line started to break and her words came in bits and pieces, "Ka-Karina, what? I can't hear you?"
"Anna, they're en-...please stay-...."
"Karina?!" My heart raced in my chest as chills ran down my spine.
"Love, I need to go now, I promise I'll call you again soon", she said and my eyes widened, "Karina, please I'm really scared! Please tell me you're alright. When are you coming? I need to see you!"
"I don't know when I'll be able to come, but please don't worry, I'm okay, I'll be okay, they won't hurt me. I'll be fine", even though her voice was still tense I could hear the surety in her voice, "I'll be just fine, don't worry about me at all but listen-...."
I clutched my chest as the line broke again before her voice came out clearly, "Anna no matter what you do, don't go anywhere near the shadows!"
What?!
"Anna, can you hear me?? Please don't forget, stay away from the shadows!"
"What- what shadows? Kari-"
The line went dead.
I stared at the phone in my hand as my mouth went dry and my heart pounded inside of me. My breath came ragged as panic and adrenaline continued to course through my veins.
Karina was also among supernatural people, just like me. She was also unraveling forbidden secrets just like me. But it seemed that what she had found was different from what I had found and not knowing what it was was eating away at my sanity.
She had said she'd be okay, that was the only thing she had seemed completely reassured about but why was she afraid of being caught making a call to me? And why did she say she didn't know when she'd be able to come visit?
Fear coursed through my veins as concern for my sister started to drown my ability to think clearly. I hadn't been able to tell her anything about my situation here, and I didn't know when she would call again or even if she would call again. Her last words still haunted me.
Don't go anywhere near the shadows...stay away from the shadows!
What did she mean? And what was I supposed to do now?
I jumped at the sound of the announcer calling out all the names of the finalists of the events that had taken place this evening. I still felt extremely disoriented when he announced the names of the two Finalists of the Men's combat event - Master Zuerien Kai Royale and Commander Del Wilson.
Blinking in lack of understanding, my eyes momentarily darted toward the Game Grounds and I almost shrieked in horror when they landed on the tall, dark skinned, muscular man who was the other finalist, standing beside Zuerien. I knew him! He was the same man who I had seen speaking to the group of shirtless wolf-men in the woods! The leader of the warrior wolves!
My heart rate doubled up as fear rose deep inside of me at the sight of that man and at the recollection of his words from that day.
"Remember that there are humans here, one slip and our secret will be out. No matter what we mustn't let anyone know! And in case anyone does find out, you know what to do to keep it under wraps"
I started to hyperventilate and my feet started moving backwards into the woods behind me. What if that man saw me standing here? What if he recognized me? What would he do?!
A tidal wave of panic swept over me as I felt yet another panic attack coming. I needed to calm down and I needed to get out of sight immediately! The crowd had started to disperse as the evening events had come to an end. I could leave with them but how would I get to the other side of the Grounds to the exit without being seen by the man?
I clutched my chest and gasped for breath, still taking steps back into the darkness of the woods. My eyes drifted from the large warrior now talking to Master Cole, to Zuerien who had started to walk away, to the other side of the Ground where Alpha Marco was waving at him. But watching him go made my heart constrict inside of me as I suddenly craved his embrace more than anything.
My lips parted as his name made its way to them suddenly my foot fell over a branch which broke underneath my weight causing me to shriek as I grabbed the tree trunk to keep myself from falling.
But my voice caught in my throat when I saw both Master Cole's and the warrior's heads snap towards me. Their gazes immediately zeroed in on me and the warrior's nostrils flared. His eyes went wide and I knew he had recognized me. My heart stopped as shock followed by rage contorted his features and he pointed a large hand towards me.
"YOU!" he shouted making Zuerien stop in his steps and turn around.
Understanding flashed across Master Cole's face but before he could stop him, the large warrior started to charge towards me angrily. I turned on my heel in a flash and right then I heard Master Cole's voice cry out, "DEL, NO!"
Without wasting another second my feet hammered into the undergrowth as I dashed into the dark woods just as Zuerien's alarmed voice echoed in my head.
SUZZANAH!!!
I wanted to stop, I wanted to turn around to him but I couldn't as my feet carried me swiftly across dark paths through tall trees. I could hear thundering footsteps coming after me and it only fueled my panic making me run harder. My heart hammered inside my chest as my surroundings became a blur and I continued to race through the woods, going deeper and deeper with each footfall.
I heard a loud howl fill the air and the terror within me doubled tenfold. A silent scream escaped my lips as I shot across the forest, through thick shrubs and bushes. I felt twigs and thorns cut into my skin and tear at it but I ignored the pain as I flew through the dark eerie woods blindly, unable to stop.
Suzzanah
My eyes widened as a familiar voice sounded inside my head as I ran, the voice of that woman I had met in the woods.
Suzzanah, please stop running
I didn't, or more like I couldn't. My brain wasn't functioning and my reflexes kept me bolting on my feet. My panicked gaze searched the blackness around me trying to find her but I was going too fast to be able to focus my sight on one thing.
A fog started to form around me and my eyes widened in panic as I tried to escape it. But the more I ran, the thicker the fog became. I screamed waving my hands at the thickening mist, but it served no purpose as soon I couldn't see anything but a grey-white cloud that surrounded me from all sides.
My legs gave out underneath me and I started to fall but two hands came around my shoulders catching me before I hit the ground. I gasped for breath clutching onto the person before me desperately before my head snapped up to look at them.
It was dark but I could make out that the person who had caught me was a woman. I could tell that she wore a dress that fell to her ankles. Long dark hair cascaded down her back and chest, brushing against my hands but I couldn't make out her face which caused extreme fear to sear through my veins. I screamed and pushed myself away from her. My back collided hard with a thick tree-trunk behind me and I slid to the ground as pain flooded my back.
The woman straightened up and I stared at her with wide panicked eyes as the fog around us started to clear. She took a step towards me and another scream escaped my lips as I struggled to get back on my feet but failed miserably.
Suzzanah, calm down
My heart skipped a beat as that woman's voiced resounded in my head, and strangely enough it quelled some of my panic and fear. The mist cleared from in between the two of us but encircled us creating a thick shield of fog all around. As beams of silver moonlight filtered through the thick canopy of the tall trees, my eyes widened as their glow illuminated the woman before me.
It was her, the same woman I had met in the woods earlier this morning.
"Y-you..."I breathed out as my eyes adjusted to the darkness and the view of her face became clear to my wide eyes.
She smiled softly, "Yes", she replied, "It's me again Suzzanah"
She took a step forward and my eyes went wide. My hand found a broken stick beside me and I immediately grabbed it and pointed it at her, still gasping for breath as fear and adrenaline coursed through my veins.
"Stay back!" I yelled trying to push myself off the ground, "D-don't come any closer"
She didn't, but just continued to watch me with gentle, calm eyes. My knees wobbled underneath me and I stood up shakily. My heart continued to race inside of me and my breath came out ragged.
"Please don't be afraid", the woman told me softly, "I won't hurt you"
"Who are you?" I gasped out, "And what do you want with me?"
"Only for you to calm down", she said with a smile, "And open your heart"
"Wh-what?" I asked pressing my back into the tree trunk.
"Suzzanah, you are in no ordinary world and you are no ordinary person", she replied gently taking a step forward, "You are special, and in order to accept that, you must open your heart. Listen to those who plead for you to hear, and also listen to those whom only you can hear."
My eyes widened again as an image of the blue-green eyed man flashed in my memory. My hand started to tremble as my grip on the stick tightened, "Who are you?" I asked again and she smiled her calm, pleasant smile.
"I am she who has been exactly where you are and she who knows exactly who you are", she replied and I cringed.
"Please! Stop talking to me in riddles!" I shouted at her, "Just tell me straight up, who are you? And how is it that you disappear and appear out of nowhere?!"
"Oh love, you are mistaken, I don't disappear or appear", she told me, "I've been with you all this time. You only see me when you really need to"
I gasped and my grip on the stick faltered making it slip out of my hand and fall to the ground. I pressed my trembling hand over my chest as my mind processed what she had just said.
"H-how can that be", I whispered in shock and she smiled again tilting her head to the side.
"Come now, why are you so surprised?" she asked, "Aren't you the one who said it?"
My brow furrowed as I waited for her to continue. Her smile widened as she inhaled deeply before saying, "Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day..."
My shocked gasp escaped my lips as she recited the quote I had known for ages now. Her soft gaze watched me understandingly as she said, "Of course, the unseen and unheard part of it may not be so true for you. After all, you can see me can't you?"
My heart rate spiked again as I realized what that meant, "Y-you're a Ghost?!" I exclaimed in disbelief and she shook her head.
"Ghost is such a negative word", she said, "No dear, what you see are not ghosts, they are spirits"
"S-spirits?" I gasped out and she nodded.
"Yes Suzzanah", she whispered to me, "What the spirits say to you is important. You must heed their words. Listen to them", and my head suddenly felt very heavy.
"B-but why are they speaking to me?"
"Because you are the only who can see them. The only one, who can see me", she replied.
"But..but how? Why? W-why can I see you?" I asked and she smiled softly.
"I don't know of the other spirits, only you can know about them. But why can you see me?" she said, before her eyes twinkled in the moonlight.
"Maybe because I was always right here", she whispered, taking a step forward so she was just a foot away from me.
"Maybe because I'll always be right here", she took another step forward and my hand pressed further into my chest.
"Maybe because..." she pressed her hand over mine which was placed over my heart, and I was surprised at how warm and comforting it felt, "Maybe because I am always...right here", she said patting her hand over my heart, and my eyes went wide as she started to disappear before me.
"B-but I don't understand-"
"You will understand, if you truly try to", I heard her voice in my head as she faded from my sight, "Its all about your decisions Suzzanah, its all about what you choose. Don't be afraid of who you are and who you are destined to be. Embrace it all with an open heart"
"W-wait!"
"Remember to listen Suzzanah", her voice sounded in my head as she faded away, "Listen to those who plead for you to hear, for they are right beside you"
The fog that had engulfed us while we spoke also started to lift as the last of her words echoed inside of me, "And know that I am always here. Always right here"
And then she was gone, I could no longer hear her. I stood pressed against a wide tree, a position I often found myself in, my eyes looking at nothing in particular as the black of the night and silver of the moon mingled all around me. A silence so thick hung in the air that had I not known that I was breathing, I would have thought that nothing here was even alive.
Slowly but shakily I pushed myself away from the tree, a strange numbness spreading across my body. My legs started to move involuntarily and I started to tread once again through the dark path of these unfamiliar woods. I felt tired yet not tired enough to want to give up and let the darkness take over. No, I wanted to stay awake, awake in this world where I now undoubtedly belonged.
The Supernatural world
I continued to walk not caring where I was going, as long as the numbness did not stop me from moving forward. That's what I needed to do now, move forward, because if I didn't, then I would surely fade to nothingness. And I didn't want that. I didn't want to succumb, I didn't want to fade away, I didn't want to give up.
So don't
I lifted my gaze from the darkness of what was below me to the brightness of what was above me, to the cloudy yet brilliant night sky studded with a thousand twinkling lights. And I felt sensation slowly return to my body. Cool winds breezed past me, as I stopped at a little clearing, staring at the sky. My heart rate slowed till it was a steady beat inside of my body. Steady, and not erratic, not uncertain, not afraid.
Its all about your decisions Suzzanah, its all about what you choose
I choose...to be strong!
I stood a little straighter, I breathed a little deeper, I felt a little calmer. The wind caressed my hair as though giving me its blessings and I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply letting it fill me to the brim.
I choose to go on!
A strange energy started to flow into me igniting a small flame within me. It surged through my body and seared through my veins and it warmed my heart till I was sure, I was stronger.
I choose to accept!
I walked into the clearing so that my moist skin was drenched in the moonlight. And as the breeze continued to dance around me, blowing a few stands of my hair over my eyes, I realized that those strands were now the same silver as the beams of the moon. And it didn't bother me. I accept it now.
A soft gasp drifted to my ears and I realized that it came from behind me. Just as I started to turn, large clouds shielded the moonlight casting a thick darkness over the woods again, so that when I turned I couldn't see the person who stood by the tree.
We stood in silence for a while, neither of us saying a word till the figure took a hesitant step forward towards me. I couldn't tell for sure but the person seemed to be stumbling in the dark which made me wonder if he or she could see my face.
The figure took another step forward, then stopped, and I could make out a faint outline of the person's hand placed against a tree for support. It was still too dark for me to tell if it was a man or a woman, but when the person spoke up, I could tell right away.
"L-Luna?"
It was a woman.
"Luna? Is that you?"
Most definitely a supernatural woman. She didn't tread any further but I could tell that she seemed tense.
"I'm sorry, I know this is all very untoward, but I'm afraid I can't see you or tell if you can see me", her voice was sweet, not very gentle, but sweet nonetheless, "Please believe me, I mean you no harm. I just want to ask you...are you...are you by any chance...a Luna?"
Her voice was hesitant, maybe even a little scared. What should I say to her? What reply should I give her?
Don't be afraid of who you are and who you are destined to be
And who am I?
"I am", I found myself saying without a single hint of doubt, "I'm a Luna"
The minute those words left my lips a rush of warmth flooded my body and my senses suddenly seemed to open up more than ever before. My body tingled and flushed and I suddenly felt more alive than I had ever felt before.
I heard the woman before me gasp and I felt delight wash over me, not my own, but someone else's, this woman's, perhaps...
The woman pushed herself away from the tree and started to rush towards me making my eyes widen. But at that exact minute the clearing was yet again flooded with silver light as the moon reappeared from behind the clouds, and I watched mesmerized as yet again, a woman vanished into thin air before my very eyes.
I didn't get a glimpse of her face but I did see light colored locks fade into nothingness and I did hear her sweet voice cry out excitedly before it too disappeared, "LUNA!"
And I recognized that voice. It was the same voice I had heard from behind me when I had first run into the man with the blue-green eyes and the caped figure. She was her, the caped figure.
I was left alone yet again, my wide eyes now staring at the tree she had stood by, this woman, whom I had already seen twice, yet didn't even know if she really existed or if she was a spirit. But I realized that I was too dazed to worry about that right now. Maybe later when I regained my naturality, I would allow myself the luxury of freaking out, just a little bit. But now all by myself once again, one question came to my mind.
What should I do now?...
I turned around to face the moon once again as it drifted onward in the sky, playing hide and seek with me through the clouds. I too, wanted to move onward in my path, I knew that much for sure. So what should I do now, so that I can move forward?
Tell them
Megan's words from earlier drifted to my mind and my eyes widened at the exact minute that I felt a presence behind me yet again, but this time it was a familiar presence. And I knew almost immediately who it was that was standing behind me now.
Suzzanah...
My heart warmed at the sound of that rich, deep voice in my head and I inhaled deeply before turning around. And when my eyes fell on the sight before me, my body was filled with the very strange sense of belonging I always felt whenever I was with him.
Tell him.
"Steroid", I whispered and the majestic wolf before me took a step forward, his eyes widening on hearing what I had said.
A small smile stretched across my face and the large wolf took another step forward, then another and another, till he stood right beside me. Familiar brown eyes stared into mine, before they ran over my entire frame, just as they always did to ensure that I was alright.
"I'm okay", I said softly making his eyes return to mine, the worry within those warm depths dispersing ever so slightly.
He pressed his large muzzle into my neck and I heard him sniff my scent before he licked the hickey he had given me as a human. Electric tingles exploded throughout my body and I felt my knees wobble under me. Immediately the wolf came behind me supporting me, my small frame being dwarfed by his large body. I leaned into him, relishing the feel of his thick soft fur against me.
I sighed contentedly as the comforting scent of wet soil overwhelmed my senses, before running my hand down his golden streak which gleamed somewhat intermixed with silver in the moonlight. And as the large wolf curled his body around mine, for a short moment, I let myself feel completely safe in his warmth, in his protection and in his strength.
But when that moment had passed, I immediately felt waves of tension, worry, anxiety and desperation wash over me, none of which were my own emotions. And I suddenly felt the presence of more people around me, I didn't know how I felt them there, but I did.
A low growl rumbled through Steroid's strong body and my gaze followed his to the dark figures hidden among the trees, so well that if I didn't feel their presence, I wouldn't even know they were there. The waves of all those troublesome emotions suddenly dispersed and and overwhelming sense of relief washed over me, their relief, not mine. And soon the figures started to move away from where we were. Before they could disappear I stopped them and called out.
"Wait!"
The figures halted, still mingling with the darkness around them and I felt Steroid's body tense behind me. I pushed myself away from him earning a soft growl of disapproval, but I didn't let it stop me.
"I know you're there", I called out, "Please come out"
Steroid came to stand before me, his large brown orbs staring at me in confusion. I gave him a small smile before beckoning the figures to come towards us again.
"I can feel you guys there", I said, "So please come out, Mr. Talon, Master Cole, Mr. Penson"
Steroid's wolf eyes widened at my words and I waited for the men to emerge from the darkness. They did, hesitantly, taking cautious steps out from behind the trees into the clearing where I and Steroid stood. The minute they walked out from behind the cover of the trees, they were bathed in the silver moonlight and I could see them more clearly.
All of them wore expressions of confusion, concern and awe. I knew they couldn't tell what was going on, why I wasn't reacting to the large wolf next to me, how I could feel their presence when I couldn't even see them, and what was the reason for my uncharacteristic calmness.
For the first time ever, they were the ones who had questions and I was the one who had answers.
Answer. There was only one.
"S-Suzzanah?" Mr. Talon spoke up hesitantly, all three men's eyes darting from me to Steroid.
"Suzzanah, are you...alright?" Alpha Penson asked and my gaze fell to Steroid.
His brown eyes held the same confusion and questions that theirs did and I smiled and nodded.
"I'm okay", I replied making them exchange tense glances.
"Ms. Winters..we can...explain-", Master Cole spoke up but I cut him off, "You don't need to", I said making all their eyes widen.
Steroid took a step towards me but I shook my head at him, stopping him. My gaze lifted to find Alpha Penson wearing his ever knowing expression as his lips parted.
"And why is that...Suzzanah?" he asked cautiously and I smiled at them and then at Steroid.
"Because...I know", I told them and I heard them all suck in shocked breaths.
My eyes fell to Steroid who looked extremely tense, his body stiff, eyes wide and paws digging into the undergrowth. My eyes softened on seeing him so worried before I repeated myself, "I know"
I started to walk backwards away from them, wanting to put some space between us before I followed through with what I had to do. Steroid immediately moved towards me but I put up my hand and shook my head, making him halt again, and deep down I appreciated his restraint especially because staying away seemed to be the hardest thing for him to do at that moment. Mustering all the strength inside of me I made my last choice.
I choose to open my heart! I choose to tell them!
Taking a deep breath I spoke the inevitable words out loud, "I know everything"
One step back.
"I know that a supernatural world exists"
Two steps back.
"I know that I am now a part of it"
Three steps back.
"I know that I'm seeing ghosts"
Four steps.
"I know that I'm Luna"
With every step I took and every word I uttered, I could see the shock that marred their faces, I could understand the disbelief that reflected in their eyes and I could feel the awe that grew within their hearts.
And having absorbed all of that I took one last step.
Five steps.
"I know", I could feel the anticipation they were feeling as it coursed through my own veins and I inhaled deeply before saying what they were dying to hear, "I know that you're Werewolves"
And just as their feelings of utmost shock and disbelief coursed through my body like molten fire, my eyes zeroed in on familiar beautiful brown ones and I added, "I know you're Zuerien"
