Zuerien's POV
I'm an ass...
I grit my teeth, resisting the urge to punch myself as I walked across the empty street. I could still feel the painful disappointment coursing through me, clawing at my conscience.
My mate's disappointment.
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. We were done with patrol in this area, and were now waiting for General Reginald's regimen to get here so we that could regroup. After a brief break, we would be splitting up again- with most of us heading for patrol while a few led by me would scout the woods...for that beast.
My fists clenched in anger at the thought of it. I couldn't wait to find it. I would make it regret its existence. Nobody messed with my Suzzanah. And despite his current demeanor, Kai growled in agreement.
Taking a deep breath, I directed my gaze upwards. The sky that had grown slightly stormy earlier had now cleared considerably, but the sun was still hidden behind the thick white clouds.
And perhaps that was a good thing.
At this point we were quite close to the woods, so there were no humans around here, only Supernaturals, therefore we didn't have to worry about keeping up appearances.
Earlier this morning the General and I had split parties, with him and Lady Yolanda starting their patrol in the city while I and Cole had gone back to the Northern Border with Elder Abé to check up on the Walls. Despite all of yesterday's heavy-duty commotion, the walls were holding up brilliantly, and whatever little damage yesterday's incident had done to them had been repaired by the Elder today.
I was actually quite impressed that Rino had made it to the third wall. The boy didn't look it but he had shitloads of power inside that hug-thirsty body of his. His naive and happy-go-lucky personality always ended up getting him underestimated, but I knew better than anyone that Rino was a formidable opponent, when he wanted to be.
It was one of the reasons why I allowed him to stay close to my Suzzanah, to protect her.
Suzzanah...
My fists clenched, I'm such a freakin ass
Yes you are
Kai-
I'm fucking mad at you right now
I sighed, I know, I replied, But-
This is where I don't give a shit about your butts, he said coldly.
Kai, I breathed out in exasperation, You know why I do what I do-
Oh I know, he replied, I know and I'm not blaming you for it. But that doesn't keep me from wanting to knock your blunt human teeth out in aggravation. We're hurting her, human
I growled in anger, I get it okay! I get it! I grit out, Do you think I don't know? Do you think I can't see- cant feel the sadness she tries so hard to hide every time I fail to say it? Well I can. I can and it fucking pains me but I can't help it so give me a goddamn break okay!
Rage and despair built up inside me and I stopped walking, closing my eyes and taking deep breaths to try and reel in the turbulent feelings. The last thing we needed was the cloudy sky bursting into flames, especially right now when Suzzanah wasn't here to help calm me down.
I could feel heat radiating off of me, and when I opened my eyes next, I was surrounded by what looked like a cloak of sizzling steam. And I could tell that my subordinates were quietly cowering away from me, their heads bowed.
Exhaling slowly, I crossed my arms over my chest, raising one hand to pinch the bridge of my nose. I was a mess.
Kai remained quiet for a moment longer before speaking up,
I'm not questioning your reasoning, he told me, his voice as strikingly calm as ever, I understand why you are how you are, why you do what you do, and I'm not asking you to force yourself to change. But I don't understand why you struggle to stay the same even when you don't want to!
I don't know either, I replied honestly, I guess I'm still one step behind you as always, just like I was at the start of it all, when we first met her. You...You accepted her from the very beginning, while I was too wrapped up in my doubts and fears to do so-
It didn't take you long to overcome them though, Kai pointed out.
I bit back a sad smile, It was because no matter how much I tried to believe that I could make it without her, I knew I was lying to myself. Because there was nothing I had wanted more than her then...and there is nothing I treasure more than her now
So then...?
I didn't reply. Kai too was silent for a second longer before he asked,
You do trust her now...right?
More than I do myself, I replied.
Back then you pushed her away because you didn't know if you could trust her, Kai said, And now...
I swallowed hard and Kai sighed, not finishing his sentence. And I didn't know whether to feel relieved or aggravated by it. I took a few more deep breaths till I felt completely in control again before I started walking ahead once more, even though my thoughts stayed in the very same place.
Don't you think she said it too soon? I finally asked Kai the question that had been on my mind ever since the night she first said it.
No, he replied, his voice never-wavering.
No? I asked again, Its only been a few weeks since we've met. She doesn't even know everything about us yet
Because we choose to hide it
And you think she'll still love us if she knows the everything about us?
Kai tsked, It annoys me that I have to keep reaffirming to you facts that you know just as well as I do, he replied.
And of course, he was right. I knew the answer to my question even before I had asked it. I knew she would love us, no matter what. I knew she would, and it made me feel even worse.
Sorry
You should be
Don't get cocky, wolf
I'm not, ass
Wha-
You said it first, not me, he said matter-of-factly.
I groaned in annoyance before sighing inwardly.
I know you think that she may have said it too soon because this is also her first relationship, and you're worried that she might be confusing a crush with love, Kai said, But you need to remember that our bond isn't like that of regular humans. We're soulmates, human. And for soulmates there is no such thing as falling in love 'too soon'
He had a point, again. Especially given that the woman in question was Suzzanah. And if there was one thing she was never wrong about, it was 'feelings'.
I raised my guilty gaze to the cloudy sky, I don't deserve her
Maybe you don't, but I most certainly do
I deadpanned, Kai-
Besides, if you didn't deserve her, she wouldn't be yours, he added, Which is why I don't think you need to hide things from her anymore
I snorted, You're one to talk, Kai, I said, Tell me, how much longer do you plan to keep acting like mating with her is all that's on your mind 24x7?
Acting like? I don't act, human. It usually is all that is on my mind when it comes to our Suzzanah, after her happiness and safety of course. And I'm an animal. My mating instinct is much more heightened than yours
But she literally thinks that you're a horny naive fur-ball of sunshine
And whats wrong with that?
Its a load of bullshit
That's not entirely true, he replied, I have never pretended to be anything I am not in front of her
But you haven't shown her everything you are either, I replied.
I haven't needed to, Kai replied, And I hope it stays that way
Hope...it stays that way...
For her sake.
I inhaled deeply, stopping several yards away from the border that separated our side of the city from theirs. The translucent barrier that divided the entire place into two was less powerful within the city than it was in the woods. It had to be or else it would react towards the humans too. And that was why an additional BorderGuard was required to watch the borders within the city.
Even from the sizeable distance, I could see the members of the Shadow Guard on patrol by the border. I could see them fidgeting and glancing around nervously, probably having sensed my presence. And I could hear their raspy, eerie voices- their whispers of apprehension.
"Shadow Reaper..."
"Its the Shadow Reaper...!"
"Can you see him?"
"No but I sense him..."
"He must be around here somewhere..."
"Stay on guard!"
"The Shadow Reaper...!"
My fists clenched, rage and restraint waging war inside of me. And I felt an undeniable sense of satisfaction seeing them cower at the thought of me. That's right, they should be scared. They should be very scared. Because I was not even the man I was 7 years ago anymore.
I was much worse.
If they even dare lay a finger on my people, especially on my mate, I would show them a hell far worse than back then.
And I would make them remember why I was called that in the first place.
The Shadow Reaper
I took deep breaths, seeking to keep calm. Even the sight of them made my blood boil, but I couldn't afford to lose it right now. We had a long day ahead of us.
And if my self-control gave in so easily then there was no way I'd be able to keep it together if I accidentally came across...him.
Fury built up inside me yet again at the thought of him, but Kai helped me reel it in, taking control of half my body to keep me from burning the nearest building to the ground.
One would think that as an animal, Kai's emotions would be far wilder than mine, and that was true. But being human, I dwelt on a profoundly larger spectrum of emotions that he did. Which was why I got worked up by them far more easily than he did. In fact, Kai's self-control was astounding.
But God forbid he lost it.
God forbid.
Crossing my arms across my chest again, I watched quietly as the Shadow Guard continued their nervous searching for me. As Supernaturals they too had heightened eyesight, but us werewolves still beat them to it, and from the distance I was at, I doubted they could see me even if they tried their hardest to.
But even if they couldn't feel my presence, I knew that they were already aware that I was in Dublin. Yesterday's commotion by the third wall had given that much away. After all, there were only a handful of Supernaturals who could make it across the first two walls to the third wall, and I was one of them.
I didn't know if they knew that Cole, John, Marco and the General were here too, but they knew I was for certain. And probably also Rino. And although I would have preferred that they weren't aware of our being here, I honestly didn't care anymore. As long as they didn't know that we were here for Karina, it was enough.
But my only concern was that they would probably have guessed that I wouldn't leave my mate behind. If they knew Suzzanah was here then...
Keep calm
I nodded quietly, recognizing the well concealed rage in his voice. The idea of them coming for Suzzanah got Kai just as furious as me. I knew that that bastard Terrence must have plans to try and capture my mate. I was sure he did. He had to have something of mine.
After all, he needed to get even.
One way or the other.
I sneered at that thought. But even if he wanted to get to her, he knew he couldn't be rash. Not while I was still here. Not if he wanted to keep things from getting as bad as they did 7 years ago.
But regardless, when it came to my Suzzanah I refused to take chances. I would restrain my anger and watch from the sidelines as long as I needed to, if it meant that it would keep her safe. Because she was my everything now. She was my very reason for existing.
And she had become, in the truest sense, my heart.
As long as I had breath in my body, I would protect her. And if anyone tried to hurt her...
I would kill them.
"Alpha"
I turned to face Cole who now stood a few feet behind me.
"Are you alright?" Cole asked and I nodded.
"Why?"
"Because you look like you want to murder someone"
I snorted, "I do", I replied.
"There is news", Cole said, not beating around the bush.
"I'm listening", I replied.
"Word is that the Shadow King is here to meet with the Fae Elders", he said, "It seems quite a few of them are here for the Mid-Summer Faery Festivities. And he apparently has business with some of them. A particular family"
"Do we know which one?"
"Afraid not", he replied, "But it could be..."
"The Firestorm Family", I said quietly, eyes alight with realization.
"Afraid so", Cole replied, his brow furrowed worriedly. He hesitated before asking, "Do you think-"
Naturally, I replied via mindlink, not needing him to complete his sentence, They are one of the exceedingly rare Fire Faery. And they have the 'Gift of Sight'
But I thought they didn't get along, Cole said.
They didn't. At least not in the olden times, I replied, Which is understandable given how Ancient Shadowers couldn't go anywhere near direct light without being incinerated. They hated Fire Elementals, and probably still do but...now they have cause to approach them. Especially the Firestorms because of their particular 'Gift'
They won't find it, Cole reassured me immediately.
No they wont, I agreed, But that won't stop them from trying
Its been 7 years since then, Cole said thoughtfully, I wonder why they didn't approach the Firestorms earlier
Probably because they already had other Faery allies who had the 'Gift of Sight', I replied, But now they must've realized that the Gift alone isn't enough to find it. The person probably also needs to be a Fire Elemental
I looked at the palm of my hand, feeling the heat in my blood warming my skin.
Even if the Shadow People are now somewhat immune to light in their human forms, they still still aren't comfortable with Fire Elementals, I said thoughtfully, Because Fire Elementals can produce a form of light which they can manipulate at their will
And it is the light that determines where the Shadow will fall after all.
So for as long as possible, they must have tried to avoid going to the Fire Faery for help, I said, They could afford to dawdle
And now they cant? Cole asked.
I scowled, Who knows
John probably would, Cole said and I gave him a weary look.
Yeah, but its not like he'll tell us directly
He might, Cole said, You know, after a lot of cross-questioning and random philosophical theory reciting
He'll make it such that we arrive at the answer ourselves
Yes he will, Cole agreed with a sigh, But we should probably ask him anyway
I scowled, he was right.
But before that, there is actually more I needed to tell you, Cole said, his tone becoming serious again instantly, And I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the Shadow People or not but it seemed important
What is it?
Apparently, yesterday there have been a few sightings of a strange unidentified being on the Shadow Side, he said making me frown.
Strange how? I asked.
Word is that its a person who appeared and disappeared spontaneously within a very short span of time, and left the patrol members on both sides of the Border completely baffled and frenzied
Oh? My brow furrowed in question.
They said that it was a person in a dark cloak, Cole told me, making my apprehension rise. He hesitated before adding, And apparently, it was a woman
Oh shit.
Prophecy? I asked worriedly.
The patrol members on our side of the border who witnessed it happen said that the incident occurred yesterday, sometime late in the morning, Cole told me, Around that time...Prophecy had already teleported us out of the airplane, but I don't think she had been returned to the hotel
So when this caped woman was sighted on the Shadow Side, Prophecy should have still been with Ashford in the Woods, I said putting two and two together.
I spoke to Ashford about it, Cole said and I frowned.
And did he speak back? I asked, knowing that it was a genuine problem when it came to that man.
Cole nodded, He said that Prophecy was with him the entire time that they were in the woods till he delivered her back to the hotel, he replied.
So she didn't teleport physically, which makes sense, I said.
Her body wouldn't be allowed to teleport past the border, but her soul? Her soul was a different matter altogether. Because souls or spirits were the only Supernatural entities that these mazes and barriers couldn't act upon.
Unless the soul of a person became bound to one particular place while they were still alive, it could travel past any and all Supernatural barriers, because souls and spirits weren't essentially considered to be 'alive'.
But if it was her soul that teleported to the Shadow side then no one would have been able to see her though, I said to Cole and he nodded.
True, but I still asked Ashford about it just in case and according to him, neither her soul, nor her body ever teleported away from him, even after she lost consciousness and he carried her back to the hotel, Cole replied.
He was certain?
Yes
What did he say?
He said yes
Yes?
Yes
We both stared at each other wearily.
He was sure, Cole told me, And even after he left her at the hotel, the healers and Beta female Laura who were with her never noticed anything off about her soul
It doesn't seem like it was Prophecy then, I said and Cole nodded.
No it doesn't, he agreed, But I still asked Laura to let us know as soon as Prophecy wakes up, and I believe John has requested the same
Did you tell John about this yet?
He shook his head.
My frown deepened as I thought about the matter, Maybe it was someone who is a part of the Shadow Side then, I said, Like one of Shadow sorcerers. They can use teleportation spells too, if they have the enough magical objects to feed off of
Cole nodded, That's true but if it was one of them, then why would it have gotten the ShadowGuard all worked up and panicked?
Maybe the same way Prophecy would have gotten us panicked if she suddenly appeared and disappeared from in front of us
Cole smiled thoughtfully, Perhaps you're right...
I was about to tell him that I wanted to speak with the BorderGuard head in Dublin when I suddenly sensed a familiar powerful presence. Both of us immediately turned our heads to the side just in time to see General Reginald and his group of warriors come into our line of sight.
They were here.
While my regimen had gone to check on the walls within the woods, General Reginald and Lady Yolanda had scouted through a portion of the city, taking a look at the borders and trying to gather information about Karina and Terrence's whereabouts.
As they walked up to us, the General's face gave nothing away. All the warriors bowed to me and Lady Yolanda nodded at me, looking annoyed about something.
"Rise", I said and all the men immediately stood straight again, "Go join the others and refresh yourselves at the BorderGuard facility. We'll be leaving again soon"
"Yes Alpha!" they replied in unison before immediately leaving to carry out their orders.
Lady Yolanda frowned, "Ugh. Sweaty, boorish, half-dressed men!" she muttered with distaste.
All of us immediately chose to ignore her.
"How are the Border Walls in the woods holding up?" General Reginald asked, not wasting any time on idle banter.
"Good", I replied, "They're holding well, and have been repaired now too so they're good to go"
"And the Elder Abé?" Lady Yolanda asked.
"He left to rejoin Marco's party and look for Megan as soon as he was done repairing the walls", Cole replied.
"How was patrol?" I asked General Reginald whose gaze was directed to the border in the distance.
"Alright", he replied, looking back at us, "We discovered a few interesting things"
"Their whereabouts?" Cole asked.
"Not quite", he replied, "Their whereabouts are still unknown. They're probably residing deeper in the city than we first anticipated", he suddenly smiled looking strangely intrigued, "But we do have news that's quite interesting"
He immediately switched to mindlink, I spoke with the Head of BorderGuard in the center of the city. He said that so far the Magnifis Heir has not been sighted close to the Borders within the city, however, he has apparently been to the Walls within the woods already.
Yesterday? Cole asked worriedly and the General nodded.
Yes
That's to be expected though, given the commotion we created by the Wall yesterday, I said.
But we have reason to believe that he would have gone to the Northern Wall irrespective of the disturbance caused on our side, he told us, Because even if we hadn't caused one, they would have
What? Both I and Cole frowned questioningly.
Rino went to the Northern Wall yesterday because he felt his Luna's presence on the Shadow Side right? General Reginald said, his face calm but eyes glimmering with excitement, Well it seems that the boy was spot on. Rumor by the Border is that the Shadow Lord's young human pet escaped his security and ran away yesterday
Cole immediately sucked in a sharp breath and my fists clenched as he went on,
And apparently she was found later in the Woods, unconscious, and was retrieved, he said, That must have been right after you retrieved Rino
Cole and I nodded. We hadn't sensed Terrence's presence by the Northern Wall while we had been there. If he did get come there, it must have been after we left.
I hope Karina is alright, Cole said worriedly and the General smiled mysteriously.
I'm quite sure she is, he replied.
How? And why exactly do you look so pleased right now? I asked frowning at the him.
Frankly because I am, he said, smirking, I believe we underestimated Karina. That young human managed to escape Shadow security and make it all the way to the Northern Border. Which makes me believe that either she has made some friends who are lending her a hand, or that she is smarter and stronger than we gave her credit for
He grinned excitedly, Girl's got balls
Cole and I exchanged thoughtful looks, thinking the very same thing.
There is no way she could have escaped Shadow Security based purely on her human abilities, I said, That means...
The General nodded, Naturally, her powers are growing, he said, and she's apparently figured out how to start using them too. However, the Magnifis heir is clever. So whatever tricks she used to escape him yesterday probably won't work again
Unless of course...he lets her.
Before any of us could make further comments, an irritating voice intervened.
"Ah, Excuse me! I am still here too!" Lady Yolanda exclaimed indignantly, "And I do naht appreciate being left out ahf this conversation!"
"Its nothing you don't already know", the General replied nonchalantly.
"So waht? I have very kindly agreed to help you all out! Do naht ignore me like this", she said like a kid throwing a tantrum. An annoying kid.
"I feel disrespected!" she went on, "Do naht forget that I don't need to be here. I am doing you all a favor! You-"
Her voice caught in her throat when General Reginald's cold glare met hers, his eyes dark with warning.
"We heard you, Lady Yolanda", he said in a low voice, "So keep your voice down. Don't forget whose presence you are in"
Her eyes immediately widened before shooting to me and Cole before she took an involuntary step back and cleared her throat.
"Y-Yes. Ahf course", she said, tearing her gaze away from his, while the General continued to watch her with hard eyes.
Growing up, I, Cole and Marco had seen those eyes many times. Perhaps even feared them as youths. They were not just the eyes of a highly experienced soldier but of a powerful animal with an inbuilt instinct to kill whatever it didn't like.
There were not many people who could shut Lady Yolanda up, but the General was definitely one of them. And even if she would never admit it, for as long as I can remember, she had always been a little scared of both me and him.
Both General Reginald and John had been my teachers for many years, and in many ways they were quite similar, but in others, they were strikingly different. They shared a cool persona which rarely wavered, but while the cool in John's character leaned more towards calmness, the cool in the General's was far more cold.
He was a warrior. He had killed before, and over time, shedding blood did that to you. It turned you cold, maybe even indifferent.
I would know.
"We were discussing via mindlink because we didn't want to be speaking out loud, being closer to the border and all. We regret the inconvenience", Cole told Lady Yolanda with a smile.
I swear Cole was a saint. Just like my Suzzanah.
The tension in the air dissipated quickly as Lady Yolanda's discomfort eased, "Oh well. Never mind then. I suppose I can pardon this", she said haughtily, "But if you're worried about someone hearing you, all you needed to do was ask me"
She snapped her fingers and we instantly felt like we had been enclosed in a sphere of magical energy.
"There!" she exclaimed, "I have created a sound absorbent sphere of magic around the four of us. You can talk aloud now"
This was somewhat like being in one of Marco's mazes, but her magic wasn't quite as subtle as his mazes could be and it was starting to get suffocating in here already.
"I just finished telling them about Karina having been at the Northern Wall yesterday", the General replied coolly, as though he hadn't just given her a death glare.
"Oh yes, speaking of the Wall!" she exclaimed, "I believe I may have managed to pin-point a few key features and constituents ahf their walls"
The three of us immediately directed out attention towards her.
"As you know we aren't sure waht their borders are composed ahf, but upon keen observation and with great concentration, I managed to sense magic on their side!" she told us, "And it wasn't regular magic. Which means that their border walls definitely are infused with sorcery"
We had guessed as much.
"But sorcery uses a lot of borrowed magic", I said, "How are the Shadow People acquiring so many sources of magic?"
"The Fae of course. They are experts in tapping into preexisting magic in the atmosphere", the General replied.
"That must mean that their borders need a lot of constant replenishment", Cole said.
"Indeed, and maybe we can take advantage of that somehow to get Karina back", the General said.
"Provided the woman hasn't already turned supernatural", Lady Yolanda interjected.
"What do you mean?" I asked frowning.
"Well, being the Luna ahf Hearts she has supernatural powers which by the looks ahf it, she has started to make use ahf already", she replied, "And I'm naht sure how 'human' she will remain if her powers kick into full gear. And if she isn't human, she will naht be able to pass through the border within the city"
Cole and I immediately tensed, this new information hitting us hard. If Karina couldn't cross through the border like other humans could then the chances of retrieving her while in Dublin would be next to nil.
Shit.
"If you ask me, the very fact that she made it so close to the Northern Wall yesterday proves that she is a Supernatural", Lady Yolanda went on, "A normal human could never have done so"
"Not a normal one perhaps, but unique one probably could", the General replied, "Like Suzzanah"
Our gazes immediately shot to him as he continued, "Suzzanah too made it across the first two walls and quite close to the third one. And she is essentially human, regardless of the supernatural abilities she somehow seems to possess. She is special. And perhaps as her sister, Karina would be too"
"You think the special traits Suzzanah possesses are familial?" I asked, "Because Elder Abé said that its her soul that is a rather non-humanly human one"
"I see", the General said thoughtfully, "Well even in that case there is no reason why Karina's soul wouldn't be too. Because even though her 'special' abilities started to manifest while she was still a child, Karina did manage to spend most of her life as a regular human, unnoticed by Supernaturals. Both the sisters did. Maybe they have unique souls which can remain fundamentally human despite their extraordinary abilities"
Besides which, he added via mindlink, In history, in the rare event that a Luna Extraordinaire has been born a non-supernatural, her powers have never affected her constituency as a human. She has simply become a human possessing superhuman abilities
"So I think we can still safely bet on Karina being human enough to cross the border when the time arises, regardless of whether or not her powers grow", he said calmly, "For the time being, what we need to do is hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Which is why I told Suzzanah that I couldn't be sure that we'd be able to recover Karina the day after tomorrow, when we're scheduled to see her in Jervis street. We need time to properly assess all areas of doubt before we make our final move"
Cole and I nodded, "Right"
"Another thing we discovered is the possible reason for their visit to Dublin", the General said, "Apparently the Magnifis heir is here to meet with certain Fae of interest"
I and Cole immediately exchanged glances. So our guess was right again.
"We aren't certain which ones exactly yet, but I believe he's trying to take advantage of the Faery festivities and meet up with a few powerful allies", he added, and both I and Cole remained silent, not voicing our doubts about the Firestorm Family.
Because he doesn't know
"Do you think Terrence Magnifis is trying to stock up on allies in preparation for a war?" Lady Yolanda asked bluntly.
"Do you think he has reason to wage war against us?" the General countered and she shrugged.
"I'm an outsider. I would naht know", she said dramatically, "But you should", she added looking at me.
"Even if I do know Lady Yolanda, as of now it would not be business I'd be willing to discuss with an outsider", I replied making her eyes widen in shock.
"I-I-"
"Finding his reason for being here isn't our first priority right now. Finding Karina is, and on that note", I turned to General Reginald, "Did you inform the BorderGuard to keep an eye out for her?"
"I did", he replied, "And well, there is also another thing I wished to mention. A passing rumor that the Border patrol has been talking about. Apparently, there is a small commotion on the Shadow side about a couple sightings of a mysterious unidentified being believed to be a woman, who suddenly appeared and then promptly also disappeared a few seconds later sometime last morning"
"So you heard that too", Cole said, "As did we. It apparently happened somewhere around here actually"
"One of her sightings was here, yes", the General said, "But she was sighted more than once apparently, within the city, and never twice at the same place"
"We thought that it may have been one of the Shadow sorcerers using teleportation spells or something", Cole said.
The General frowned, "I don't think so", he replied thoughtfully, "Its created too evident a disturbance amongst the Shadow People for it to have been a Shadower's doing"
"So you think it was a non-Shadower? A Fae?" I asked and he shook his head.
"Maybe a Fae, but then again the Faery being their allies would not have caused such havoc amongst them either, is what I think", he replied, "At the very least, the person would not have been deemed an 'unidentified being'. And since she was said to have appeared and disappeared, I'm guessing she may have used some form of magic"
"A non-Fae, non-Shadower who can use magic on the Shadow side...", Cole thought out loud, "The Shadow People and the Faery do make up nearly 95% of the Supernatural population of the Shadow side, with the remaining population being hu-"
Our eyes met in a flash.
"Humans", I said, "You think it was a human?"
"I honestly wouldn't know", the General said, "But we can't rule out the possibility of it having been one"
"The patrol members on our side of the border who witnessed the person's sudden appearance and disappearance said that they hadn't had enough time to be able to pick up the aura of the person, to tell what species they belonged to", Cole said.
"Yes but the Shadow People are known to have some of the most heightened soul recognizing abilities", I said, "And if they couldn't recognize the woman's aura then its most likely it must have been one they had never sensed before"
"Like that of a Human Generic sorcerer, you mean?" Lady Yolanda said what we had all been thinking.
"You don't think that's possible?" Cole asked her.
"On the contrary, I know it is", she replied, "Generic sorcerers are the very rare beings that walk the fine line between the natural and the Supernatural. Because they are both- human and Supernatural",
She looked at me, "A little like your human mate, Alpha King", she said, "And they are the most difficult to recognize too. Still, I would naht necessarily consider them a threat to Supernaturals. At least, naht on their own. So that leaves only one problem with them"
"And what's that?" I asked.
"The very simple fact that they are human", she replied, "Because that means that they can cross over the border"
The point she was trying to get to became crystal clear to the three of us instantly.
"Normal humans are weak and useless unless their minds are specifically hypnotized using magic or sorcery in order to do a Supernatural's bidding", Lady Yolanda said, "But the border walls would detect the spell cast on the human and alert us immediately so we can quickly decontaminate them"
"But Generic Sorcerers are naht like regular humans. They can be powerful provided they are skilled enough, and they are better able to hide their true identities and carry out secret jobs without other Supernaturals knowing than normal humans are because of their powers", she told us, "Therefore they would naht need any hypnotizing or a Supernatural manipulation to get things done. And if naht Supernaturally manipulated, then our borders won't detect anything wrong with them"
Her dark gaze met mine and she added,
"Which means that if that woman they sighted yesterday really was a human Generic sorcerer and the Shadow People can manage to get their hands on her, then we'll have no way of recognizing her even if they cross over onto our land"

Hey guys,
Sorry it took me so long to update.
My life is SUPER crazy right now and I'm a mess but writing helps. I pulled 2 all-nighters to get this done. I'm super tired.
And to make it up to you guys for the delay, I'll update another chapter TOMORROW, because I'll be travelling a lot in the coming week and I may not have time to update on Sunday.
I hope that makes you happy. You guys are the best readers EVER!
So, how do you guys feel about 'the Shadow Reaper'?
What happened 7 years ago?
And what's up with this strange unidentified being on the Shadow Side?
Answers = Coming soon.
Things are going to get exciting now so for the few who complained about there being too much theory, don't beg me to go easy on you with the action that's coming up, lol.
Finally, did you like this chapter?
If you did please do VOTE, COMMENT and SHARE.
Until tomorrow,
All my love,
May
