Un.

On the outskirts of a town in France sat a rundown Catholic orphanage. The walls were crumbling and mold grew in many of the rooms.

The children who lived there lived three to a room. There wasn't much space for a newcomer. But one night a stranger cloaked in black appeared and left a fair skinned baby with soft black hair on the steps. On the infant's face was a pair of black rimmed glasses. The baby was wrapped tightly in a red coat.

“Goodbye, Cressi. Mommy loves you. This is for your own good.” the stranger whispered to the young infant. The stranger tucked a small envelope into the coat pocket along with a parchment wrapped package. Written in the letter was the infant's first and middle name, along with a date of birth. The bottom of the letter gave directions for the package.

Crescent Rose

Born February 14th.

Give her the package before she leaves.

The letter gave no information about the child's parents.

~26 Years Later~

Crescent 🌙

I sat at my desk in the small tailor shop. Several pieces of paper surrounded the area. Sketches that didn't work or that I didn't like. In my hands was a letter written by the the Earl of Phantomhive.  Requesting my presence at his manor.

Sighing I ran a hand through my black hair streaked with red. A strange mutation that baffled the nuns of the orphanage. Along with my unnaturally bright green eyes caused many people looking for children to adopt look over me.

Re-reading the letter I set it down and look outside. I weighed the pros and cons of leaving the small town.

Pros would be leaving the town and the people who stared and made fun of me for being different. As well as getting to work for someone as prestigious as the Queen’s guard dog.

The cons would be leaving the town where I got my start as a tailor. And leaving the small shop that I spent all the money I had saved up for.

Looking back at the letter I made my decision. I stood up and smoothed the layers of my teal dress down. I enter my bed chambers and pull out my suit cases and start packing.

Once my room was packed I returned to the main room and put my papers and pencils into a case.

The letter had informed me that everything I would need would be at the manor.

As I close the bag the bell of the shop rings, informing me that someone had entered.

“Bonne après-midi, Crescent.” a familiar voice chimed.

Turning around I am met with the kind grey eyes of Olivia, one of the nuns from the orphanage that stayed in touch with me. She had an odd scent that I had gotten used to.

“Bonne après-midi, Olivia.” I respond.

“Rumor is messenger of Phantomhive came round with a letter. Is it what I think it is?” She asks.

“Yes. It was a summons for me at his manor.” I reply.

“I see. I will be sad to see you leave dear.” Her warm, wrinkled hands came up and cupped my face, before tucking the one braided streak of red behind my ear. “But remember I will always be there with you.”

“Thank you, Olivia.” I say smiling at the older woman.

“Before you go I have your birthday present.” From her cloak pocket she took a parchment covered package.

She handed it to me and inside was a sleek pair of rainbow chrome scissors that glinted beautifully in the light.

“How beautiful.” Olivia said. “I will miss you.”

“I will miss you as well.”

We said our goodbyes and she took her leave.

I wrote to the landlord of the shop to tell him I was leaving. He gave me my down payment and wished me luck wherever I was headed too.

~The Next Day~

A carriage took me from the shop to the docks where a boat took me to England. Upon arriving another carriage was waiting.

The ride was smooth and I took the time to admire the beautiful snow covered landscape.

The carriage pulled up to a huge manor that I assumed was the Phantomhive manor.

Taking a deep breathe I open the door of the carriage and step out and down to the ground where my black high heels knee high boots crunched the snow underfoot.

I looked around and saw no one except the carriage driver who was unloading my luggage. Looking back at the manor I see someone who was definitely not there before.

A tall male in a black tailored butler uniform stood a good foot taller than me. He had raven black hair and red-brown eyes.

“You must be Lady Crescent.” He said giving me a charming smile. He smelled like Olivia in a way.

“Yes. Crescent Rose at your service.” I said bowing slightly.

“I am Sebastian Michaelis. The butler of the Earl of Phantomhive.”

“Pleasure to meet you.” I smile.

“Let's go inside to the warmth. The Earl is waiting in his study to meet you.” he said leading me inside.

He lead me up a grand staircase, past a maid with dark pink hair and round glasses.

He lead me down a hallway, he stopped at an oak door and knocked three times. From inside a room came a curt ‘Enter.’

Sebastian pushed the door open revealing a boy in a green tailor suit. He had blue hair and a blue eye, his right eye was covered with a black eye patch.

“Lady Crescent, My Lord.” Sebastian said bowing to the boy.

“Thank you Sebastian. Bring us some tea.”

“As you wish my Lord.”

“Have a seat.” He said.

I sat in the chair across from his desk.

“Hello. My name is Ciel Phantomhive the Earl of Phantomhive.” he said looking down at some papers on his desk.

“Bonjour heureux de vous rencontrer. Nice to meet you.” I say bowing my head.

“As the Phantomhive Tailor and Seamstress you will have access to any fabrics of your choice, as well as all the materials you need. You will be creating outfits for myself as well as anyone else I request you to. Is that understood?”

“Yes, My Lord.” I said.

“Welcome to the manor, Miss Crescent.”

We shook hands and Sebastian reappeared with the tea.
