twelve
When Dabi came back to, he was in a room he didn't recognize.
The fight must be over, as everyone else was here.
The raven haired male rubbed the back of his neck, twisting his head left and right. There was a pounding in the back of his head, like someone was hammering against it.
This would be the best moment for Sana to use that ice of hers and cool down his headache.
When Dabi glanced around the room though, he froze up.
Spinner.
Toga.
Twice.
Magne.
Kurogiri.
Shigaraki.
Mr. Compress.
But no Sana.
All of them were there except for his better half.
Slowly a sliver of panic began to bubble up from the depths of his guts and make its way up.
Even after three, four more headcounts she still didn't pop up. Not miraculously hidden behind someone, not coming in through the door, nothing.
"She's not here."
Kurogiri had finally taken it upon himself to confirm Dabi's dreading thoughts.
When Dabi's head snapped towards Shigaraki, the tall bartender added "She is alive and well. I have sent her to keep up her end of the bargain, as ordered by All For One. She will not be returning anytime soon."
Dabi stared at the figure across of him, not quite sure what to think. Where was she and what bargain was he talking about? The thing with that hero was surely over, Sana had told him that earlier, so what could he be talking about?
"Where is my sister?", Dabi finally snarled, his hand lighting up.
Sana was pacing up and down the room, waiting for something. Though she didn't know what exactly.
She remembered getting approached by Shigaraki and falling back into Kurogiri's portal and then she ended up in the police station. An officer had taken her to an interrogation room and someone would come soon.
Why Kurogiri brought her here she had no clue. Maybe it was part of some twisted plan, maybe he had heard All Might's words outside the bar hideout, maybe it was an order from Shigaraki, she didn't know.
Nor did she actually want to know.
She seemed to be pacing the room for hours and slowly but surely she was losing her mind. The door was locked and the window was one-way, meaning she could watch herself pace around the room while she could be watched by others from the other side.
Hours of pacing and nobody came by to tell her what was going on. No police officer, no pro hero, no nothing. Not even Kurogiri to bail her out.
Sana hoped that at least Dabi knew what was going on and that she'd get back to him as soon as she could. Though she didn't know where to look for him. The police had probably also found their apartment, meaning Sana would have nowhere to go, when she would be let out. If she would be let out.
When the door to the interrogation room finally opened, Sana spun on her heels to face whoever just entered and felt her entire face drain of color.
Endeavour.
The pro hero looked exhausted and Sana could only guess what had happened out there while she was locked in here.
"I assume you know why you're here?", Endeavour questioned as he leaned against the mirrored glass, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
It took Sana a moment to finally speak up, hoping her voice wouldn't crack as she said "No, I don't."
The raven haired woman leaned against the wall across from Endeavour and wrapped her arms around herself, making herself look smaller than she intended. But those were just her reflexes triggered by the man opposite of her.
The fear of getting beaten again.
Although she doubted it would happen, since he showed no sign of recognizing her.
"You're here because you fled the scene. Although I don't understand why you came here on your own free will," Todoroki Enji explained, his gaze as hard as stone.
"I neither fled the scene nor came here because I wanted to," Sana quickly shot back, holding her breath just after in fear of what would happen.
Enji however showed no response, remaining where he was.
Sana let out that breath and inhaled deeply again to try and calm her racing heart.
He doesn't know you, meaning he can't hurt you.
The thought was simple but it wasn't exactly easy to engrave that in her mind.
"However, you will remain here for questioning. You will answer any question we have about the League of Villains and you will answer those questions truthfully, understood?"
"Yes, sir."
Now Enji straightened up, his eyebrows raising a bit.
Sana slapped her hand over her mouth and closed her eyes shut, immediately regretting her words.
The tone and combination of those words should be enough to give her away, if Enji was able to count two and two together. The way he'd stood straighter was enough to let her know he knew.
But Enji said nothing regarding what she'd just said, only "I'll let you know All Might is no longer the number one hero. Someone else will come in now to ask you questions and after that you get to leave."
With that he left the interrogation room.
The moment the door closed behind him, Sana let out a deep breath, the hand she had clamped over her mouth lowering to rest upon her throat. With her other hand she reached out to grab the backrest of the chair in front of her to stabilize herself.
It felt like her entire life had flashed before her very eyes the moment she had said 'Yes, sir' to Enji. She had already seen him going on some sort of rampage as he realized just who stood before him, but none of that.
Then again, she hadn't seen his face before he left, so she had no idea just what had been going on in his head. Or if he'd shown any reaction at all.
Then again, Todoroki Enji was a professional, he wouldn't let something as trivial as this be the reason for his stern facade to topple over.
But this wasn't trivial.
Pushing all those doubts aside, Sana just took a deep breather as she told herself she was safe. Told herself he didn't know. Told herself he had no idea who she truly was.
She was positive that if Enji had actually figured out in that moment who stood in front of him, then he wouldn't have left the room and let another police officer or pro hero take over the interrogation.
But it's been ten years since your last confrontation, what if he changed?
People do change over time, but if there was one person that'd always stay the same, then Sana would put her money on the man who called himself her father.
Or at least who used to call himself that, until Todoroki Teruha passed away ten years ago and was fully wiped out of his life, barely any photographs or memories of the sort remaining.
Only a small shrine with her and Touya's picture on it.
And Sana would put even more money on the fact that Todoroki Enji never visited that shrine.
