While the rest of the league was gathered around Bakugou in the bar, Sana decided to stay in the lounge a few doors down the hallway.
She didn't exactly black out, is what Dabi told her, she'd been conscious the entire time. She just couldn't remember how she got from under Aizawa's foot back to the bar. Her mind was drawing a blank there.
As she sat in silence, her gaze was focused on her phone.
She'd texted Hizashi the moment she had a clear mind again, nothing specific, just a little 'Hey, how are you?' and nothing more.
The encounter with Aizawa and the fact that he had recognized her left her quite shaken. Of course, she knew he would've recognized her just by her voice, though that didn't ease her anxiety at all.
What if he had already spoken to Hizashi? He surely already told him about it, that Sana was part of the League of Villains and that she had used him. She wanted to, needed to, talk to him so bad. Had to explain herself.
The sound of her phone ringing startled her out of her thoughts and her pulse picked up a few paces once she saw who called her.
Hizashi's name was displayed on her phone screen.
Quickly she accepted the call and pulled her phone to her ear, a breathless "Hizashi," leaving her lips.
She was met with silence.
A few seconds passed and when she still heard nothing, Sana finally spoke up.
"He spoke to you, didn't he?"
A deep sigh sounded from the other end of the line, giving Sana the confirmation she needed.
"I know you have a lot of things to say right now. And I know that you're angry and you have all the right to be, but please, hear me out. Can you do that for me?", Sana questioned softly, feeling her heart ache.
Once she heard Hizashi hum lowly she knew this was her moment to explain herself.
"I guess I should start off with saying that I'm not really here on my own free will," Sana began, quietly, incase Kurogiri or someone else was listening in, "I'm just here because of my brother. We vowed we would keep each other safe, a lot of shit happened in our lives so it felt only natural for me to follow him. He's the only one I have left. Then you came along."
She paused for a moment, like she wanted to make sure he was still listening.
"You were my first chance at living a normal life, being a normal person and I wanted to take it. The few times we've met were the best moments of my life and every text we send is enough to put a smile on my face, even a simple 'Hi' is enough to do so."
A small smile crossed Sana's face while a few tears gathered in her eyes.
"We've only known each other for a short time but I would do anything to keep you in my life. I am so unbelievably sorry for misusing your trust like this. Nothing can put into words just how horrible this whole situation made me feel.
"I know that this is barely of an explanation, but I just needed to let you know this. I understand if you never want to hear of me again. If that's your wish then I will disappear out of your life as quietly as I came in and I apologize for all the inconveniences I've posed you."
Neither Hizashi nor Sana said a word from then on, they only sat in silence, hearing each other's breathing.
It must've been a minute or two that have passed, when Hizashi finally spoke up, breaking the silence.
"I don't want your apologies."
Her eyes widened at those words, the few tears in her eyes slowly beginning to fall.
"Please, Hizashi, I-"
"I don't want your apologies, Sana. Did you not understand?"
"Hizashi, just hear me out-"
"I've heard you out. You're right, I'm angry, hell, I'm furious! I should've listened to Aizawa when he told me I should be careful around you, seems he was right. Something was off about you."
Sana shook her head, wiping away a tear that was making its way down her throat.
"Hizashi, if you would just listen a moment longer," she began, only for him to cut her off again, "Then what? What would you tell me then? That all this was just a prank and you never really cared?"
"Then I'd tell you that Shigaraki would've killed me if I hadn't blurted out where your camp was! Had I kept my mouth shut like I wanted then I would've been cremated and you could visit me on some rundown graveyard!", she nearly yelled, shutting the man up for good.
"I regret telling him where the training camp was, I really do, but it was the only thing that came into my mind in that moment. I didn't want to die. Not when there are people out there that I care for."
The two remained silent again for a moment, Sana mumbled a soft "I'm sorry."
Then the line was dead.
Slowly Sana dropped her hand holding her phone into her lap. The screen was black. Hizashi had just hung up.
She released a shaky breath, two, before she jumped from the sofa and threw her phone at the wall, a loud "Fuck!" leaving her lips.
She ran her hands through her hair, eyes focussed on the shattered phone on the ground.
Hizashi sighed once he had hung up, his brows furrowed. His chest was aching and he didn't know why, wether it was because he had now used Sana in return or because she had used him first.
He didn't know what to think. One part of him wanted to think she had said the truth, another part of him thought she lied just to get back close to him. In all honesty, he hoped she had been saying the truth.
Despite only knowing her for a short amount of time, he couldn't help but feel attached to the woman.
"Do you have it?", Hizashi asked quietly, before adding "I'm sorry I just hung up, I couldn't take it anymore."
"Don't worry, we have the location." Nemuri said, sending a concerned gaze his way. She had been one of the first who he'd talked to about Sana and she knew just how hard it must be for the blond man. This was the first time where someone had shown interest in him and not just his position.
"And I'm sorry for just accusing one of you to be a mole, I just...", he trailed off, not sure how to end his sentence.
"I said don't worry. Who could've known it would be her. From all you've told me, she seemed like the nicest person ever," Nemuri replied, placing a hand on his shoulder.
The blond pro hero nodded, staring at his phone, fighting the urge to text her and apologize. Though he wasn't quite sure what to apologize for, he just felt the need to.
"C'mon, let's go get some fresh air," Nemuri said, tugging at Hizashi's jacket to get him to move. Recognizing what she was going for, Hizashi nodded and got up, following the raven haired woman out to the courtyard to get some fresh air.
Once outside, Nemuri fished a packet of cigarettes out of the depths of her bag. As she took one out for herself, she held the pack out to Hizashi, an eyebrow raised at him.
"I don't smoke," Hizashi began, only for Nemuri to cut him off "You're an occasional stress smoker, Hizashi. I think after working with me for years you should know by now that you can't hide a lot of stuff from me."
Hizashi looked a bit taken aback, but after another nudge of the packet his way, he gave in and took a cigarette for himself, muttering a low "Thanks."
After lighting her own, Nemuri handed the blond the lighter, which he gratefully accepted.
"When did you find out?", Hizashi asked after lighting his cigarette, inhaling deeply before slowly exhaling the smoke, enjoying the tingling feeling it left behind.
"I think I knew for a year or two now."
"You what?!"
Nemuri laughed at his shocked expression "Remember that one student that tried to get with you right after she graduated and you kept shooting her down since she's a former student? I caught you one time on break, right outside of Ground Beta."
Hizashi facepalmed at Nemuri's revelation, which made the woman laugh once more.
"Who else knows?"
"I think the entire staff does, you know, if you smoke and don't want anyone to know you should at least have some gum with you all the time and wash your hands regularly to get the smell off. Bonus points if you smoke with the wind so it doesn't get on your clothes."
Hizashi took another drag and sighed "Guess I'm not good at hiding things, huh."
"It's fine, 'Zashi. This is not an easy situation you're going through and I hope you know we're all here for you," Nemuri said, sending a comforting smile his way, which he half heartedly returned.
"The thing is, I feel like she's telling the truth, you know? That she wasn't doing this willingly. I mean, I don't know her long enough to know just how exactly she works and thinks, but something tells me that she wasn't lying. It's also why I hung up. I don't think I could've kept my cool if I had heard her say one more thing."
"Do you want an honest opinion from me?", Nemuri asked, to which Hizashi nodded.
"In all the years I've known you, I don't think there was one time where your intuition was wrong. Sure, one or two times you weren't quite right, but other than that what your intuition said was true. And with what you told us about her and from the one time we met her, I think you should listen to your intuition. Maybe you should talk to her."
"You think so?"
"I pretty much know so. You should try to contact her, get her away without the league noticing you're getting her out of the coming disaster. Give her a chance to redeem herself before the police get's their hands on her, if you know what I mean."
Hizashi took his final drag, before he crouched down and pressed the bud against the concrete, putting the cigarette out.
"I think I might do just that. But can this stay between us?"
"I'm your best friend, what do you think I'm gonna do, shout it out for the world to know?"
The blond huffed a laugh, nodding at her words, then muttered a soft "Thanks, Nem'."
