Chapter Two, A Secret Regret

Chapter Two, A Secret Regret

Leta and Lisette had had a hard life the past six years. The now eight year olds had to endure the lack of any love (at best) from their Lord father and verbal abuse (at worst) no matter how hard Irma tried to shield them from the ever increasing fury building inside Lord Lestrange as he failed to find a suitable bride to carry the correct Heir, a male Heir he so desired. Not two girls.

Now that the twins were eight years old their so-called father was exhilarated in finally having an Heir whom he named after himself the conceited wizard that he was. However, his second wife, Clarisse Tremblay, died giving birth to their half-brother much like their mother had. Despite barely knowing the woman the twins were a little sad about her death and the callous way their father was acting for in the short time Clarisse had been with them she had shown Leta and Lisette a kindness that only Irma showed them. But it seemed the bad news just kept on coming for a threat was building on the horizon to kill the Lestrange name all because their father had abducted their mother from her doting and loving husband and son (their elder half-brother) - not that they would know this until they were older.

But be that as it may, Lord Corvus Lestrange was forcing Iruma to take Corvus and reluctantly the girls to America via boarding a Muggle ship.
"But Lissy is ill!" Leta shouted, stomping her foot as she supported her little sister and glared at their so-called father.
"I don't care!" Corvus declared vindictively, glaring at the troublesome duo, but it was plain to see he was wary of them for their power as he stood far back from them.

"YOU NEVER CARE!!! ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS THAT CRYING THING!!!" Leta shouted enraged by all the mistreatment dished out to them for eight years. Leta's glare only intensified when Corvus started screaming as he did the majority of the time (more-so than a normal baby) causing Lisette to wince at the high pitched cries that made her head ring and throb painfully.

They didn't actually hate their younger brother he was just a catalyst of all the negative emotions that had been stored tightly within them, plus with his constant crying he was hurting her twin and that was something that Leta would never let stand and vice versa.
"You raise your hand to my twin, father," Lisette spat, opening her eyes that gleaned with power and retribution despite the pain she was in, "and there will be consequences. I'm sure you remember the last time you hit one of us."
Corvus glared balefully at the pair for several moments before dismissing them as he turned towards Irma.
"Go and get them out of my sight. Protect my Heir!" He said firmly, before leaving for his office where a bottle of Ogden's Fire whisky was calling his name.

"Come girls." Irma crooned softly, smiling tenderly at them as she beckoned them to her with her free hand while trying to soothe the baby with her other hand to give Lisette some relief. She didn't think it wise to travel while Lisette was so sick but she was ignored. The poor girl had been throwing up constantly. She'd come down with Wizarding Flu a few days ago and hadn't been able to get out of bed she'd been so pale and sickly. Leta had been extremely worried and called for a Healer herself before informing Irma, thankfully the Healer had been able to provide Lisette with some potions that had helped her tremendously but there was still a way to go yet, and they wouldn't be able to rest until they were on the ship.

"Stay here girls. I'm going to see what's going on, I'll be back." Irma ordered firmly, trying to hide her fear and worry from the very perceptive twins. She kissed the girls on the forehead first before doing the same to the baby as she made her way out of their cabin looking for the captain of the ship or one of the crew to inform her of what's going on.
"I've had enough of this." Leta complained climbing from the bed she shared with her sister and picking up the still crying Corvus.
"Leta? Where are you taking him?" Lisette asked pushing herself out of bed to follow after her twin and little brother.

"I'm not going to hurt him. Neither of us hate him but you need to rest to get better. I need you to get better Lissy!!" Leta beseeched. "So, I'm going to swap him with that quiet baby down the hall. Only for a moment so your head can stop hurting." She added, ambling down the hall slowly so she could also keep an eye on her sister.

Upon reaching the room they noticed that mother had obviously gone to find out what was going on and had left her quiet and content baby unattended to. Lisette stood propped up in the doorway keeping watch while Leta quickly, but carefully, swapped the two babes over. The new baby didn't make a sound once which caused the two to let out a sigh of relief as they left heading back to their room. However, halfway there Irma returned frantic and panting from exertion, no doubt from running to return to her charges, quickly she urged them to the rowboats as they were being evacuated off of the sinking ship. Leaving their crying brother with the unknown woman and them with the unknown happy baby.

As they were escorted into a separate boat from the woman, the twins had no chance to get their brother back and could say nothing as guilt ate at them as they saw the second rowboat swallowed by a wave dragging their brother down to the depths below. That night was not a night neither twin would forget in a hurry, and out of all the trauma dished upon them by their father; this night was the one that would form their Boggart.
